Housemade pastas are among the Italian classics served at this warm neighborhood trattoria.
"$35 for lunch, $60 for dinner You’ll find us at this Richmond spot for casual Italian dinners, group meals, and any other time we want their delicious free bread" - julia chen 1
"This casual Italian restaurant in the Richmond has plenty of booths where you can catch whatever game is streaming behind the bar, ideal for spending quality time with their mountainous portions of pasta. No matter the reason you’re here, every meal begins with a tray of housemade bread and a side of sundried tomato sauce. If you run out of tomato dip, the bread is an excellent vehicle for cleaning off your plates of amatriciana and carbonara." - julia chen 1, patrick wong
"Attached to Bella Trattoria in the Richmond is a sit-down gelateria with a long wooden communal table with enough room for a gaggle of frozen dessert enthusiasts, also known as your friends. Some of their 12 flavors are dairy-free (like pineapple, watermelon, and lemon), while the rest are standards you’d find at most other gelato shops in the city (pistachio, vanilla, and chocolate). Our favorites are the amarena and mint chip. Stop by whenever the gelato hankering arises in the Richmond, or if you need a change of scenery for dessert after downing the handmade pastas in the restaurant’s main dining room. "Bella Trattoria goes big in every way. There’s a long black leather banquette that wraps around the place. Booths stretch up toward the ceiling like imposing ceremonial thrones. And portions of decadent pasta are super-sized. Pile into the Richmond spot to carbo-load on housemade pastas, bruschetta, and even free bread. A full bar and sports playing on TVs will also keep everyone happy. And by “everyone,” we mean the Spikeball crew you’re rolling in with after an intense game at Golden Gate Park." - Julia Chen 1
"It's pretty much impossible to find an Italian restaurant that serves amazing gluten-free pasta, but Bella Trattoria, a charming and authentic restaurant in the Inner Richmond, is doing just that. Though Bella makes its pasta in-house, it does buy its gluten-free quinoa alternative. However, it's the sauces, like arrabbiata, puttanesca, and salsiccia, that are the real heroes of the dishes, so one truly doesn't mind. If you really need an Italian dish that's made in-house though, there are also a couple of gluten-free gnocchi dishes that also knock it out of the park." - Paolo Bicchieri, Eater Staff
