"If you book Belly Bistro, you are statistically very likely to secure a next date. Or stay married for another few years. Because it’s impossible—between ube tiramisu and singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to strangers across the room—not to have a great time at this lively Filipino spot in Kentish Town. Just make sure you order a tempura cod pandesal each, because not even the most loved up couple could share this nicely." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley
"Belly has the kind of exciting buzz that can be picked up from your peripheral vision. Whether you’re driving, cycling, or in the front seat at the top of a double decker bus going the other way, the glow of tea lights and the sound of people having fun at this Filipino bistro in Kentish Town will pull you in. And you should let it. Everything on the menu is tempting, but these are the non-negotiables: tempura cod pandesal (one per person), ‘bicol express’ scallops (swimming in coconut cream), and the ube tiramisu (no notes)." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, daisy meager, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley, heidi lauth beasley, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley, heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, heidi lauth beasley, heidi lauth beasley, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak, daisy meager, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak
"When someone makes a jerk Sunday roast as good as Guanabana does, you pay attention when they open a new restaurant. So pay attention to Belly Bistro. At this Filipino bistro on Kentish Town Road, you’ll find kinilaw—a raw fish dish prepared in citrus and vinegar—as well as plenty of wines and more inventive Filipino dishes. We checked out Belly Bistro and added it to the Hit List." - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak
"Cold pressed juices and smoothies rule the day here, but they also have good bowls, wraps, soups and salads too. Have to say the belliGREEN is the best, but have them add cayenne." - Faust
"Out with the escargot, in with the fried chicken. When Pastiche abandoned its southern Bay View spot for fancier, Frenchier downtown digs, Charmice Dodson moved in, giving her catering business a permanent brick-and-mortar and bringing the neighborhood a new destination for elevated comfort fare. The menu is inspired by her grandmother’s cooking: whole chicken wings dry-rubbed or hot, honey-glazed salmon blackened or grilled, jambalaya, shrimp and grits. This is a homey, everyday spot, perfect for grabbing a po’ boy or a burger with a beer on a Tuesday night. But the space hasn’t lost that cozy date-night feel, and the ribeye and lobster tail will suit any special occasion. Whatever your mood, just be sure to side it with the mac and cheese." - Todd Lazarski
