Once you find the right door, walk halfway down a hallway and look for a big yellow sign. You'll feel like you’ve stepped into a Studio Ghibli film as you place your order, then sit down at a little table tucked between a pile of rice sacks and a counter where the staff chop cabbages for filling. "At Best North Dumpling Shop, the sight of the cooks chopping cabbages so perfect they look like they came straight from a Studio Ghibli film might make you tear up a little—and it definitely will make you hungry for the 12 types of dumpling available at this stall in a Flushing shopping center. The mutton-filled ones are extremely juicy, with a strong but pleasant gamey flavor—but if that’s not your thing, get the pork and cabbage or pork and fennel instead. There are a few tables across the hall where you can sit, eat, and bask in the atmosphere." - Carina Finn Koeppicus

"There’s some impressive food at this tiny stall inside the Friendship Shopping Plaza off of Main Street in Flushing. All the pork buns are big and steamed, and they’re unique because the pork plays a supporting role. One comes stuffed with mostly fennel and just a little ground pork, and another (our favorite) has a ton of seasoned cabbage with just a few chunks of meat. Eat them at one of the two tables set up across from the kitchen. Then, order a bunch more (plus some steamed mutton dumplings) to take home." - Hannah Albertine, Carina Finn Koeppicus, Kenny Yang

The spicy wonton was great! The pickled veggies combined with chilly oil was delicious.

This is by far one of the most authentic Northeastern Chinese dumpling house in the area. This is no frill, hole-in-the-wall kinda place as everyone mentioned. Not the clean-est type of restaurant that you would expect. However, the taste is good and solid. My favorite item here is their steam buns. Made by hand daily, often sold out so I have to call ahead of the time to reserve it. Cash only.

Google
A true hole-in-the-wall, this place is great! I came here with a few friends on a weekend, and we shared two plates of #1 and #2 dumplings. #2 was great because of the leeks, but #1 was great as well. The food takes a bit of time to come out, but I see this as a positive because this indicates that the food is freshly made. There's soy sauce, vinegar, and two types of hot sauce too to go with the dumplings. One downside though is that everything is plastic - the plates and bowls and the chopsticks are wooden. So much undecomposable waste. For the price, it's great too as 10 was $3.75 including tax. Definitely recommend; this is going to be a place I come to every time I make it out here!

I came across this restaurant watching Here.Be.Barr on YouTube. Everything was in Chinese. I tried to order the noodles with peanut sauce and the staff did not know what I was talking about, even when I used the google translator. Finally I just pointed at something and the the guy who helped me said “beef.” I said yes, and he kept repeating it a couple of times. Finally he showed me, and he showed me tripe, and I like tripe. I told him to make it into a noodle soup. With the beef tripe noodle soup and ice tea, I spent $8, which was nothing. Be warned— the restaurant is at the very back and only had about three small tables. Imagine a hallway- there are about four (?) restaurants you walk through and finally when you get to the very back, the restaurant is there.

Google
Hole in the wall with good home style Northern dumplings. They also have steam buns that are very popular. Good price to quality ratio.

I keep coming back here for kimchi wang mandoo! I don't think I'd ever had Marantang before, but other reviewers are pretty much on money!

Google
Dumplings are ok. This place was in my saved list. But given the current price, I don't think it's worth it anymore. 10 dumplings for at least $6.

Authentic local dumpling spot with some tables and chairs to sit. Loved the food and it’s a great experience to dine at locals

Yelp
Absolutely love the buns and tea eggs at Best North. Best North is located inside a small food hallway in Flushing. Blink and you might miss the entrance to this narrow hallway. Best North is about halfway in to this corridor and has a few tables and chairs for dining in. Their menu is in both English and Chinese, but in my experience, the staff often don't speak much, if any, English, so you might be better off coming here with someone who can speak the language. Their pork and cabbage buns are huge and delicious with generous amounts of well-seasoned filling, and the bun itself is fluffy and moist. Their tea eggs also have lots of flavor. On my most recent visit, I got 4 buns and 3 eggs, which ran me $11.

Yelp
We ordered the spicy wontons (menu #13) and pork and white cabbage dumplings (#1) to stay. I found this joint thanks to a foodie on IG. The place was clean, bright, had seating, and A/C on a hot 95 degree day. This place is CASH ONLY. I really enjoyed the spicy wontons, which were topped with white pepper, scallion, pickled cabbage, and chili flakes in chili oil. The dumplings were ok in my estimation. Would come back to check out the other items!

Yelp
Maybe it wasn't exactly to my taste, but based on the rave reviews here, it wasn't quite as amazing as I was expecting. I honestly love hole in the wall spots, I base my reviews solely on the food, could care less about how a place is decorated, the service, or even how clean the place appears. (I know...don't judge me...I have a fantastic immune system) For me, it's the food that really counts! I got the Pork and Fennel, Green Pepper and Mushroom and the Sour Cabbage and Pork. While the flavors are a unique, the filling for all were under-seasoned. The provided soy sauce/chili combo was so watered down that it tasted like...water. All three orders were so over cooked that the skin was mushy. Definitely not "QQ" They also use a very lean ground pork so the dumplings were not juicy. Lastly, there appears to be a communication difficulty. They seem to not understand Mandarin or English. Doesn't affect their star rating for me but I found it odd that even me as a Chinese person had trouble ordering in a Chinese restaurant.

Yelp
Move over, old Tian Jin dumpling! Northern Dumpling is now my favorite spot! Loved the pork and fennel dumplings. The wrapper is perfectly Q and the xian bursting with flavor. Enter the "Friendship Shopping Plaza," which is a long hallway, to find this spot. You pass the rice noodle place and then see the northern dumpling spot on your right!

Yelp
Would be easy to miss if not for yelp. Had pickled cabbage and pork dumpling- absolutely delicious. Great flavor. Prices have gone up- 7 for 10 but still great value! There are some seating available however it is a small area. Highly recommend.

Yelp
So if you're real hungry from humping Or sad from your most recent dumping Come gulp down these treats Filled with mystery meats From the little stall called Best North Dumpling! Not to be confused with the Best Oliver North Dumpling Shop and the Best Edward Norton Dumpling Shop which are both in Hollywood, and more expensive and less good. What I love most about this place are the affordable prices and generous portions and extremely friendly people working here, and the guy that runs it is a total angel and they have some really cute authentic decor and a nice vibe going on, because basically you just walk into an Asian style long corridor of food stalls and you huddle around the table with fake plastic chairs and whatnot. I like fake plastic in general, less so with chairs. All of that stuff is five star quality but I guess the problem is that I didn't get blown away by the dumplings. They're good but they didn't make me orgasm or anything like the ones that I had just had down the road at Tian Jin for example which I think are the best in town I've had. And the famous ones down the road on Prince Street, probably slightly better, but way more expensive. So in conclusion I give them five stars for all the other elements but the food itself I would give a four. I'll bump it up to 5 because of how lovely they are and because Yael recommended it and she has great taste.

Yelp
Heard about this place from a youtube video, I came here and immediately fell in love with the food, these were the most flavorful dumplings and buns I have ever eaten. An absolute hidden gem in the heart of Flushing. I hope they stay open for many years to come.

Yelp
Literal hole-in-the-wall that serves Northern-style Chinese dumplings, fried dough, pickled vegetables, soymilk, and other popular Chinese breakfast items. The staff here don't speak any English, so that's how you know this place is authentic. The entrance to this place may seem a bit shady, but if you see a Vivi's bubble tea stand by the front entrance, you've reached the right place. All you have to do is walk toward the rear of the corridor. The stand is the second to last or so to your right. You really cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. There are English translations and all you have to do is point if you don't speak Mandarin. I had the cabbage and pork dumplings. They were $5 for 10 pieces and I was decently full upon finishing it. The meat inside was fatty and juicy and everything went well with the vinegar/soy sauce mix provided. Overall, solid menu options and I'd recommend this place if you're looking for an inexpensive and delicious plate of Northern-style Chinese dumplings.

Yelp
Do I consider myself a dumpling connoisseur? No. Have I spent a decent amount of time in northern China? Yes. And the dumplings made here remind me so much of what I had to eat on a daily basis whenever I was out in the mainland. They are authentic, tasty, and affordable. Best North Dumpling Shop is fairly close to the Chinese name, 東北餃子王, though the translation is probably closer to "Northern Dumpling King." They are practically the main attraction at Friendship Plaza (#2) and have a steady flow of locals going in and out. There isn't much seating to speak of, but during this pandemic, they're an ideal destination for takeout. The dumplings are true to their northern regional variety, doughy and hearty. This might not appeal to many folks who prefer the thinner gyoza-like dumpling, but while the skin is thicker, the filling is also more densely packed. Their cabbage, fennel, and pork dumplings are a good way to start, but I think their mutton dumplings are highly underrated. The other thing they sell that folk should consider are their frozen dumplings. Depending on the variety, they sell bags of 50 for anywhere from $17-21. For those who are eating the regular hot out of the steamer / fresh out of the pan, it's around $6-8 for 15 dumplings. This isn't particularly cheap in Chinatown dumpling circles, but the quality is most certainly there. While they do have English on their menu, speaking Mandarin is definitely preferred. When in doubt, pointing at numbers or showing photos (#3) is a good way to go. They are cash only and don't forget to utilize the hot chili oil and vinegar for every order. ____________ (#1) But I sure love eating them. (#2) https://www.yelp.com/biz/friendship-plaza-flushing (#3) See, another use for the Yelp app.

Deb L.

Yelp
I frequently brought dumplings to split with family. I told them they had shorted me a dumpling last time so they smiled in my face and then omitted 4 from my order. I didn't catch it until I got home.

Yael D.

Yelp
I have a serious thing for Dumplings They really get my heart Pumpin' When done right, they sure are Sumpin' Suffice it to say, they do them right at this small stand. And then some. In fact, I can unequivocally declare that I have fallen in love with the Boiled Pork & Fennel Dumplings from here! If you don't believe me, I have the sweaty palms, loudly beating heart, and butterflies in my tummy to prove it. And no, that's not just post Chinatown praying to the porcelain god queasiness talking. This was straight up infatuation. From the savory, juicy fennel-forward filling, to the wrappers, which magically worked as the perfect doughy casing, even though they were a tad thicker than I usually go for. Was pretty much equally besotted with the Pork & Cabbage Steamed Bun. Especially with a generous drizzle of chili oil. As my erstwhile food crawl partner-in-crime, aka hubby, is fond of saying, "beautiful stuff." Filling was, again, packed with flavor and the steamed bun was soft and fluffy, without the hint of sweetness that sometimes ruins these for me. Only bummer was that I really wanted to try the Garlic Eggplant that Monica T. so temptingly describes and actually saw it on another table. But it wasn't listed on the numbered menu, so hubby tried to order it anyway and nobody understood what he was saying. This stand is housed in a small, random mall. Seating is minimal. Cleanliness is dubious, though I've encountered worse. But never mind. 'Cause if it's doughy little bundles of meaty deliciousness you're craving, then don't even hesitate. To blatantly steal an annoyingly overused Yelp phrase, I can't wait to go back!

Pattie L.

Yelp
One of my top 3 dumpling places to eat at in flushing! Cheaper than any of the ones I've been to and the dumplings are juicy and delicious. My go to's thus far are the fennel and pork & green pepper with mushroom and pork (this has a slight spicy kick very slight). Seating can at most fit 6-8 and not necessarily comfortably but you'll make do. Be warned this is what people would say as a hole in the wall spot so if you're easily turned off by that then byeee more dumplings for me! Jk but seriously look past the ambiance and get yourself some dumplings. I hear the pork buns are pretty good too and at $1.25 a bun shoot I'm trying it next time!

Stephen K.

Yelp
Hearts...smiley emoticons...kitten fur and panda bear faces. These are the emotions I have for Best North and their small pockets of freshly made heavenly pork and fennel dumplings, pork and cabbage buns. It looks like fresh dill in the dumplings-green and wonderful in contrast with the juicy pork. Don't get all overexcited before you go expecting a large restaurant. You're in a hallway in a dumpy mall with a haphazard food stand and a few grungy tables. But if I could eat this for my breakfast a few times a week I would be in heaven. It's fresh. It's cheap. It's simple and it's delicious. And I can't find it or anything like it in a giant city like Dallas. Ahhh...till next time I'm in Flushing...

Tatiana D.

Yelp
This place has legit Northern-style dumplings. They make them fresh to order, and they're totally delicious. They also have some other hard-to-find dishes, like the shrimp and vegetable bun. It's inside a building, and there's no sign, but it's to the left of Niuddo. The seating is plastic stools at a low counter, which really made me feel like I was back in Beijing! And the prices are amazing, with them selling 10 dumplings for $4.50. This place is awesome, give it a try.

Andrea W.

Yelp
Amazing cheap dumplings. What isn't to love? Also, their 包子 are great too! Great bang for your buck at this little joint. Parking can be hard to find, however.

Yelp
Highlights: No frills food stalls selling 10 big, tasty, luscious pork & fennel dumplings for $4? YES PLEASE. Best North Dumpling Shop is now officially becoming one of my go to places in Flushing for dumplings..my 2nd favorite place tied with Tianjin Dumpling House - with White Bear being the 1st place. Finding this place is kind of tricky (but not ask tricky as Tianjin Dumpling House) -- which is located down the hallway of the building 1/2 block next to the Shopping Mall - which FYI does not come across like an actual shopping mall - when u see the exterior of the building then u will understand why. BUT..I am thankful of the difficulty of finding this hidden gem, had this place located somewhere outside of the building then probably people would be all over this place. The Pork & Fennel dumpling is the highlight of my to go experience. While the existence of fennel inside can be overwhelming for your taste bud, the meat filling still managed to be flavorful and balanced out the overall dish. The dumpling skin is cooked just right. It does not need any more soy sauce/chili. It already taste good by its own. Still -- I'd rate the dumplings second to the White Bear. At $4 for 10 pieces(Cash only), the dumplings are extremely cheap!! This is where I can buy food from outside w/o feeling guilty b/c spending too much! Also, the waiter here is really nice even though he barely speaks any English, which is really welcome experience - considering I've seen in other Asian/Chinese restaurants/food stalls where they can look down on you if u look Chinese but do not speak Mandarin at all (they'd say something like WTF is this Chinese doing -he's got no business being here). For ordering to-go I mostly just pointed my fingers to the #6 item on the menu which was displayed and just say (打包) - pronounced da bao - which means for "to-go" - fortunately I just know this term! NOW.let's keep this hidden gem hidden people! (OOPS..I guess my review didn't help this cause)

Yelp
WOW IM BLOWN AWAY. Background; asian with a chef/former restauranteur dad upstate NY. Shout out Rachacha, Genesee beer and Dinosaur Bbq!! These ladies make buns better than my own papa. Im sorry dad! He most likely wont ever read this so I can be unpartially honest. The dill/fennel pork bun is so juicy and theres definitely a longlasting MMMMMM moment for me. Similar to a long orgasm but for my tastebuds this time. The bread on the outside is perfect depth which is not bready at all and thinner than other buns. Along with a more generous portion of filling, this $1.00 bun is a winner. Even though its a lil in the salty side, its still shamelessly good. Two words; garlicky eggplants rock my world. I meant 5.. My bad! Also shockingly for a buck for a lil solo dish of said scrumtiousness, this is a dish that packs the garlic punch and delivers the raw spicy boom boom pow just like I love. Perfection yet not if garlic is your foe. Which is cray in my opinion especially since raw garlic is so great healthwise. Lovely ladies from Northern China hard at work. They were very sweet to me and great with their suggestions. Perhaps bringing someone who speaks mandarin couldnt hurt. Just sayin. But even without knowing chinese, just get one or two of everything to try. Buns and cold solo plates are only 1 dolla. SAY SHAA SHAA, JIE JEN at the end of your meal to say thanks, see you soon!!

Yelp
Warning: If you don't speak Chinese, stay away from this place. The food here is actually decent, not bad at all. Some of you probably thinking, why do we give one star rating for this place? There were two ladies who work behind the counter & both don't understand English at all. One of the lady was okay, she seems nice, trying to understand what we were trying to order but the other one has bad attitude! We ordered the spicy wonton & she gave us just plain wonton soup. We explained to her about how she gave us the wrong order & she gave us attitude, real bad attitude. We told her that we ordered a spicy wonton, not just a plain wonton soup, then she raised her voice, telling us to just add a hot sauce, WTF??? We were so frustrated dealing with her. After debating with her for few minutes, she finally get it after we pointed the food that we ordered on the menu (for the 3rd or 4th times). By that time, we were already frustrated, not really in the mood to eat anymore. Horrible customer service! Very rude! We definitely won't go back to this place...

Yelp
To the person who posted the new address on the old reviews (Roosevelt ave) Thank you! Finally I got to try this place after 7 months of searching... ...Located in a small cramped food hall I was confused which was the "Best northern dumpling shop" I walked all the way to the shop at the end and asked if they had dumplings which they did so I thought I was at the right place! I was wrong, I noticed as I was leaving that the Best northern dumpling shop is a middle stall on the right side as you are walking in... Their sign says Dumpling King which is why I was thrown off. (BTW the dumplings at the end of the hall were actually pretty good a well).. The dumplings - the pork and fennel dumplings were really good and I wish I was able to try the mutton but I will leave it for next time. The skin was not really thin but not as thick as the ones you buy from the supermarket. I'm use to eating leek & pork all the time so the fennel was a really nice change, fragrant and and they were not stingy with the amount of pork in each dumpling. Definitely a place that I will returning to. I ended up buying 2 bags of frozen dumplings one at the end stall and one from Best northern Dumpling aka Dumpling King(Pork and Leek $10 for 40 dumplings & Pork and fennel $15 for 50 pcs) Lovely to enjoy at home on a cold day.

Wahed K.

Yelp
$3.75 for 10 delicious pork & fennel dumplings? Frugal living couldn't be any better. The store is located inside the Friendship Shopping Plaza on the right hand side. There are a couple of chairs to sit down but make no mistakes, this place is the definition of a hole in the wall. I've never had pork & fennel dumplings before and since fennel has such a strong flavor, I wasn't sure how these dumplings would turn out but they certainly grew on me with every bite. The fennel is prominent but not overpowering and the skin is the perfect thickness. Overall, I would say they managed to balance the flavors well. Addition of chili oil is a must. They also had mutton dumplings on their menu which we were eyeing but since we had quite a few stops on our dumpling crawl, we limited ourselves to one type. The other thing that I noticed was the size of their buns. They were HUUUGE! P.S. No valet parking available.

Larry Y.

Yelp
AKA Best North Dumpling King, the Chinese name roughly translates to "northeast dumpling king". One of the best dumpling places I've been to in New York metro area. Good skin, great fillings and boiled to order. Absolutely get the string bean dumplings, as they've run out most of the time I've been there. They also ran out of the veggie dumplings too. They have other unusual fillings too; the preserved vegetable pork dumplings were okay.

Duke F.

Yelp
No disrespect to nan Xiang and joe's shanghai. This mom and pop store has one of the most delicious dumpling. They also serve pork, and vegetable buns ( huge one). Two of them will fill you up. Frozen ones are available to buy and you can boil them home for quick lunch or dinner. Place is located right on Main Street. Small little place but it is a hidden gem ( authentic). You can always tell how authentic a place is by looking at the people that eat there. They are the ones that know the authenticity of the food. Nan Xiang and Joe's shanghai are just ok place that are just lucky. They just get a big exposure by some big newspapers articles labeled them as the best dumplings even though it is just average.

Linda W.

Yelp
I love dumplings. I've tried all the dumpling places in Flushing, such as Joe Shanghai, Nan Xiang, White Bear, Flushing Mall. This place is the winner with superior tastes, freshness, and prices. 12 dumplings for 3 dollars! Hot oil wontons with seaweed for $3.50. They don't speak much English here, but you can easily order by simply pointing at the pictures of their menu items in the wall. Also they sell frozen dumplings, wontons and buns at even cheaper prices for you to enjoy at home.

Valery C.

Yelp
Located inside the Friendship Shopping Plaza, which is actually just a cramped walkway with a media shop up front and several food places all the way to the back. Dumpling King or Best Northern is located in the middle; look for their sign hanging from the ceiling above the walkway. They have a few tables across their stand. The whole vibe is dumpy and probably the kind of place you'd take a few steps in, feel like you walked into the bad side of town, and scurry back out. But if you're adventurous, you'll keep going b/c you know the best things are often hidden in dumps like these. They specialize in northern-style dumplings, and have a fairly large selection of fillings to choose from. Pork and fennel intrigued me, but our group jointly went for mutton. Personally, I loved the dumplings. Well-made dumplings are a dime a dozen in Flushing, and these were well-made, but the mutton filling was also delicious: tender, soft, and gamy. Ended up too gamy for some in my group so your mileage may vary. They have some cold items available but they were sold out on the eggplant we wanted. We saw someone else getting tea eggs so we picked up a few to try. These were not flavorful enough, needed more time soaking in flavors.

Al L.

Yelp
They place has that cred for being inside a shady mall. They took frozen dumplings out of their freezer and boiled them for me on their household stove. :/ No thanks. I want fresh ones.

Jennifer Z.

Yelp
So this review is solely for the lamb dumplings we ordered. First of all, what were we thinking? We wanted to try something new and we had never seen lamb dumplings anywhere else...BAD idea. They were well...exactly what you would expect of lamb dumplings...kind of a weird mixture. Definitely not something I would try again. However, we will definitely be back in the future to try some of the other more..normal flavors!

Yelp
Yum! A great fantastic hidden treasure in Flushing! My friends and I made our way here after an initial stop to White Bear and finding it closed on Wednesdays. A quick Yelp search led us into this literal hole in the wall, and so happy it did! There are a number of dumpling and bun (bao, manapua, whatever you call it) choices, and not only are they tasty, but inexpensive too. We ended up splitting a 15 piece order of spicy wonton, four buns, "Konrean" cold noodle and a plate of pickled cabbage and garlic eggplant. First of all, the four ladies who work at the food stall are awesome. There was a little bit of a language barrier when ordering, but pointing and saying the number of the item ended up working out fine :-P You can see them making the noodles and wontons fresh, adding the tasty lil' garnishes on top as they plate your food. Secondly, the taste. So good! The wontons were perfectly boiled and topped with spicy chili oil, pickles and green onions. The "Konrean" cold noodle soup is a great blend of cold ramen and naengmyeon. The buns/baos were fluffy and steamed to perfection with really flavorful and juicy fillings. The pickles were a surprise too! A dollar for each side dish and they were a great accompaniment to the "main" dishes. Lastly, the price. Come on! How can you go wrong with $1.00 buns? For $2.00 you could have a light meal or hearty snack with a bun and a side dish of pickles. The only downside is the very limited seating if you want to eat there. Two long-ish tables and a little side table with maybe eight seats total. Be prepared to sit with strangers if you want to eat in. I saw many people order take out, so that is probably a better bet if you have more than a couple of people in your group. With an A rating from the Health Department (a rare find in Flushing) and great food, I will definitely be back!

Amy Y.

Yelp
Absolute gem for those who seek authentic northern Chinese comfort food. This is the way grandma would make it especially for breakfast I'd say. Try everything on the menu, you won't regret it. The Chinese grits goes well with the side dishes. Careful though, the amount of garlic they use will have you dateless for the next few days.

This is now my goto place in flushing for dumplings. Tasty fresh dumplings at a devent price. Also they sell them frozen so you can cook at home. Its just as good as eating it there.

Yelp
I can't believe no one has reviewed this dumpling stall yet. They relocated from in the late Prince Shopping Center on Roosevelt Ave. Same menu, same prices, same amount of chairs (3 tables). All you dumpling monsters from Chowhound, rest assured; Best North lives on! They specialize in Dong Bei (northern Chinese) food, which is a regional cuisine that has lately been snagging the spotlight and garnering a cult following -- I could totally picture this homestyle kitchen snuggled away in a nook right by the other northern Chinese vendors at the underground Golden Shopping Mall. I recommend the fennel & pork dumplings. Also good, the "Aquatic Food, Green Pepper & Pickled Cabbage Vegetable, Celery Dumpling," which I bought wholesale and frozen. Apparently 'aquatic food' translates as 'san xian,' which I assumed is meant to resemble the 'di san xian' of Dong Bei cuisine (however, I don't taste any potato or eggplant [how that is "aquatic" is beyond me]. If I'm not mistaken, I taste pork and leek, haha). If you know something, please enlighten me. The only thing I wish they had is an original sauce to accompany the dumplings; nevertheless, they taste great with soy sauce and some chili sauce. The frozen dumplings are excellent; they don't crack in the freezer or explode or spill their contents when you boil them! 10 pieces boiled-to-order set you back $3-4, 15 pieces $4-5. There's a small premium for mutton. Or go baller like me and get the 50 piece whopper of frozen dumpies to take home; they range $11-16. YUMPLINGS!

Yelp
This place was so authentic and good!! The lady made the dumplings right in front of us and they were delicious!! It was also very cheap!!

Yelp
These are easily the best dumplings I've had within recent memory. After a leisurely 8 hour walk (in the rain, including many detours) from Lincoln Center, a friend and I sat down to enjoy 10 of the Leek & Aquatic Life, 10 of the Fennel & Pork, and 10 of the Mutton. Although it required the assistance of a 9 year old girl in order to translate back and forth between Chinese and English, our fantastic meal came out quickly, and for the next hour we sat writhing in ecstasy, arguing which was the very greatest.

Yelp
I'm from the North, and I can attest, this place has THE best meaty, flavorful, nostalgicly authentic dumplings outside of my Mom's kitchen. Be warned, these aren't wussy little thin-skinmed southern dumplings. These are substantial, not thin but not too thick skinned packets of meaty flavor. There are two main varieties: the #1 pork and cabbage is the staple northern dumplings, a tasty and fillling standard issue. The #2 three treasure" dumplings are the real treat. The filling is a delicate mixture of shrimp and pork and chinese chives aka "joe tsai". The shrimp brings an almost al dente springiness to the filling, and the joe tsai serves up a strong but not overpowering oniony flavor that perfectly complements the meat and skin. If you like spicy food, be sure to try the hot sauce in the metal containers-- it's traditional homemade, flavorful stuff and some of the best dumpling I've ever had. A bit of a hidden treasure, northern Dumpling King is in a narrow mini mall on Main St. with a small sign. It's well worth making the effort though, for a little bit of dumpling heaven.

Yelp
Took a bit to find this place. Me and the wife sat down and wanted to try the pork with veggies dumplings and mutton dumplings. We really enjoy the dumplings a lot. I am more of the fan of less skin type of dumplings and thought they were thicker here. Other than that I thought they were still so tasty and packed in flavor. Sometimes dumplings are just good by itself and no need to add the dumpling sauce. They also sell frozen dumplings for about $11 to $16 dollars. I think 50 each depending on which ones you get. There not my moms home made dumplings but I do give them 8.5 out of 10.

Yelp
I think this place takes the cake for the best dumplings in Flushing. I wasn't impressed with the White Bear hype. This place is off the beaten path. You'll need to walk into a mini mall, down the hallway and find the stall where you'll see 3 ladies working hard; one chopping up a mountain full of cabbage, one preparing the dumpling and one manning the boiling water stove. You can't beat dumplings freshly made onsite! Try the fennel & pork dumplings..10 pieces for 4.50. You won't be disappointed. If I hadn't done my own little dumpling tour around Flushing, I would have tried others!

Yelp
Best dumpling in Flushing Be careful if you get wrong order, because they don't understand English very well

Yelp
On route to visit my aunt i had to pass through main street and figured I'd finally try this spot, and really didnt know what to expect.. You walk in to 41-42A Main St, and it really just a long hall of restaurants... I walked all the way to the end and back trying to find which was "Best North Dumpling" and really had no clue - so i checked yelp and saw the photo with the green and red signs... The ladies who work behind the counter do not speak english, but when she saw that I was Gweilo (although not sure if that term applies in the US) she signaled to the guy who does speak English.. Per the numerous recommendations, I decided to try the fennel & pork dumplings... You order first and sit.. They bring you the dumplings with a cup for vinegar - and you pay when you finish... As for the dumplings, I think they were good - the dough wasn't too thick or too thin, and the texture overall was really good but I didn't think that they were very flavorful... So, great quality - but needs a little something extra on the taste - one thing i noticed that most of the old asian guys that were sitting there were actually eating some sort of dumpling soup.. So next time i go back that's what i plan to try...

Yelp
Tiny tiny tiny little place located in a tiny indoor mall. Had it not been for Yelp, I never would have even found this place. I had a lot of trouble communicating with the vendor and resorted to pointing at menu items. Oh yeah, the dumplings.. They were great! A decent selection, with my favorite being the pork w/ pickled vegetables. I wonder if they have a fried option (didn't see it). When you come here: Don't expect lots of tables and chairs Don't expect clean tables DO expect good dumplings! (take out anyone?)

Yelp
Totally worth the anxiety of not knowing if the counter-person / cook took your order. Pork & fennel boiled dumplings weren't appetizing at first, as we normally order pan-fried dumplings. These are totally worth it. Seating is limited to 4 people, 6 if you can use your imagination. Prepare to share. We didn't get dirty looks or anything, just a casual smile here and there from passersby. We were the only (presumably) non-Chinese in the building. Not anywhere you'd take someone on a date, but a fun place to impress a person not in the know. The Chinese fellows who sat next to us ordered some type of soup and big, doughy buns. Maybe dumplings are for us "tourists" to Flushing's Chinese District? If they are, I am thankful for their thoughtful concession!

Yelp
Try the pork with string bean bao for $1. It is unique and delicious.

Yelp
Yelp led me to another disappointment. I got the pork cabbage bun $1 (not as big as the picture looked--size of a softball) the bread was a bit stale and dry. The inside was a bit bland, nothing that screamed wow for me. Also got the dumpling $5 for 14pcs--again, another disappointment. I've made dumpling for the first time and it was better tasting than this store. The wrapper was overcooked and melted like paste when I tried to pick it up and eat it. The filling, you can taste is fresh but there was no flavor. The sauce on the table was the basic soy sauce and vinegar, they don't even offer siracha. UGH! If you go to the golden mall which is half a block from this place, you will find a dumpling place near the infamous xian---that's where the real flavorful dumplings are and cost cheaper $3.50 for 12pcs and it comes with their own infused garlic vinegar sauce.

Yelp
These are by far the best dumplings in Flushing, top to bottom of the menu -- vegetable, lamb, pork, and on and on. But ordering in English is a very difficult and annoying proposition even by Flushing standards. The ladies who run the counter are nice enough, but don't even know the numbers in English (even after years of running this shop), so you have to hold up fingers and hope for the best. Every time I try to get a plate of dumplings to eat in, or order fifty frozen ones at a budget price to take home, I end up having some hilarious misadventure and not getting what I asked for. And they're not particularly nice about the misunderstandings, either -- I usually end up paying for what they make and what I wanted and waiting around for stuff to cook twice, and/or hoping someone else in line will help translate. It's a pain for all their customers, even the ones who I'm holding up in line. I'll try Google Translate on the phone next time, I guess, instead of hoping that some kind passer-by speaks enough English to tell them why I'm staring unhappily at the order they gave me instead of what I asked for. But I wish they'd just put up a menu you could point at, instead.

Yelp
Very authentic, very tasty. I think we always get the #11 (they don't speak English so we point and order)

Yelp
Went to 5 different dumping shops with my friends in Flushing the other day. Best North Dumpling Shop was our overall 2nd favorite. The pork and dill dumplings they serve here are outrageously good, I would definitely come back. They are listed as Pork & Fennel on the menu. You can get 10 or 15. The women who work here are all really nice and you can watch them make dumplings as you wait.

Yelp
Impeccable. Neck and neck with Tianjin Dumpling House for Best in the City

Yelp
This place makes the best steamed meat buns. They are a small hole in the wall place that also makes dumplings. They have fennel, cabbage, string beans and celery buns. All delicious meaty and juicy. Reasonably priced at 1.25. Perfect breakfast or snack.

Yelp
I'm a bit torn about the dumplings here. I'm not sure if I like them or not. They are interesting...since I've never eaten a dumpling with fennel seeds, but I'm not sure if I'm a fan.
