15 Soulful Shakshukas to Try Around Los Angeles, 2017 Edition | Eater LA

"This Jewish bakery in the heart of the Pico-Robertson neighborhood is a hole-in-the-wall in the best possible sense. Just a few tables that are never empty and a bakery display case. Everything they make is done in their stone oven, including the shakshuka. Needless to say, the phenomenal pita comes served fresh with a side of hummus. Take note that the spicy shakshuka comes loaded up with chiles, and while it’s one of the more traditional versions here, it’s not served in a classic skillet." - Oren Peleg

Google
Very small space but very good food. Customer servive was very welcoming and i tried the eggplant hummus and boiled egg in a pita (sort of like a torta) and it was delicious. This spot was very busy on a sunday so I guess that speaks for the quality

Google
Oh my god, this place. So easy to miss, such a little footprint, but my god, the food! By far the best Hamantaschen I've tried in Los Angeles. The Everything pita was delicious. They're also super friendly and helpful in answering questions and making recommendations.

Google
recently discovered this bakery, and I can’t recommend it enough! Their breakfast offerings are truly exceptional — authentic Mediterranean flavors that are both delicious and healthy.. They have really delicious unique breads , freshly baked, and incredibly delicious. I love love the Burekas — a pastry that’s to die for! Flaky, savory, , it’s absolutely addictive. I get it for family gatherings and everyone goes crazy for it! Plus, the place is spotless, with fresh ingredients and the friendliest service you could ask for. This has officially become my fav spot for goodies!

Great food and service! The cheese Bourekas were delicious

Google
It was my first and last time. Stay away from that place . I order a cheese bork and ended up with potato’s . Asked for an egg sandwich. Waited for more than 20 minutes . Everyone else who came after me got his order while I was still waiting. I asked for the status and they told me very rudely”it will be ready when it’s ready”. I ended up leaving and asked for money back . On the way to car I saw that they gave me the wrong order. Was potatoes and no cheese. Had to go back there again and the rude server didn’t even apologize. BtW when they finally switch it was the worst cheese I ever ate . Was so bad . Do yourself a favor and never go there

Google
The food was fantastic. 13 of us ordered at the same time and it came out in a very timely Fashion. The staff were courteous and fun to be around. Having a sense of humor and be able to joke around a bit makes ordering so much more enjoyable. I did not feel pressured having to move on to the next customer. Two thumbs up!!

Google
All of the staff at Bibi's were super caring and accommodating! The food was incredible from the potato & mushroom bourekas, to the scrumptious fresh desserts (donuts, black & white, cinnamon rolls) to the assortment of delicious bagels with the great dip that was served along with them. I would highly recommend visiting Bibi's if you are passing through Los Angeles.

Google
I got dough for baking hamantaschen and it came out excellent! I was impressed that they sold dough by the pound for $10. Lovely customer service as well with a warm, home atmosphere!

Yelp
Came to Bibi's to pick up some borekas and donuts. We ordered at the counter and service, as always, was excellent. We got cheese, potato, and the feta and olive flavors of borekas. They were nicely sized. It was my first time trying the feta boreka and I think that one is now my favorites. Huge feta fan here. We got a mix of different flavors of sufigniyot. I really liked that they had smaller versions of these usually large donuts. I had the chocolate one and I loved how much filling it had. I've always used Bibi's for takeout. However, I did notice there was some seating outside. Metered parking on the street.

Yelp
Stopped by Sunday afternoon with a friend. Small shop but offers a variety of foods and coffee! It was pretty busy at the time, but service was still great. I ordered a vanilla iced coffee, and it tasted good. My friend ordered an iced americano along with food and had only great things to say. The prices were very reasonable too. They have outdoor seating was really nice. It was a good relaxing hangout spot to catch up with my friend. Highly recommend, and we will both definitely be coming back! Parking: Street parking available nearby!

Yelp
I ordered Jerusalem bagel toast and shaksuka. The food is tasty and Tye service was very friendly. Everything looks fresh and taste good. The environment is very relaxing. It feels like eating at home! I'll be back !

Yelp
The pastries are worth it (donuts, cinnamon rolls) However salads lack proper presentation. The lettuce, tomato, olives and feta cheese are just thrown in without trying to make it look presentable. The feta is in powdered form instead of small chunks which is the way Feta is supposed to be served Also only 1 dressing option (ranch). Does not go with a Greek salad. Good to offer multiple choices to the consumer. Not everyone likes ranch. Kosher places have to make a better effort with what I described above. Cooking is an art and should be treated with more respect

Yelp
Very disappointed I love their oven baked salmon , but its ridiculous on how much of a difference it is from 2017 2019 and now 2024, price has almost doubled and portion of salmon has decreased, i wanted to go back for a refund see pictures from 2017 2019 and today's October 2024

Yelp
My favorite is the tuna melt. Great prices and quality food. They are very warm and kind staff. It's a casual dining spot I love ordering takeout or delivery.

Christian H.

Yelp
The staff acted like they couldn't have the time of day for me and my partner. They seemed annoyed when from the moment we walked in the door. I could normally get over rudeness if the food were good, but all the pastries we had were stale. Overall experience was extremely subpar, unfortunately.

Yelp
Im just now getting around to write this review (10 years late) because I googled best Hanukah Sufganyot and Bibi's popped up. Bibi's catered my daughter's Bat mitzvah luncheon 10 years ago and it was fabulous. The food was exceptional and they were a joy toward with. Sorry for the late review!!!!
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
Awesome!! You can count on great bourekas here, as well as fresh coffee and a sick assortment of (seemingly) outsourced kosher baked items (the halva coffee cake was really excellent). I'll be back for sure!!

Angie L.

Yelp
By far the best Hamantaschen I've tried in Los Angeles. They're also super friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Overpriced menu. Feels like their is so much profiteering in the Restaurant Industries. The service is great for a sidewalk place.

Jane G.

Yelp
the food was old and i looked for what seemed freshest but the place was filthy, i would never trust any food that came from here.
google avatar

Yelp
Turkish Barekas yum!! Eat them while they're still warm or freeze them and heat them up.

Nat M.

Yelp
Food service quality of the bread Easy in and out Amazing bakery highly recommended

Yelp
Don't go to Starbucks anymore, this is the most wonderful little place in the world, more than a bakery. Right on Pico it serves breakfast lunch and dinner. Cute and pretty place. Warm fresh pastries and coffee that tastes fresh and rich. The staff and owner are lovely.
google avatar

Noel L.

Yelp
Wonderful food, and bakery items. Also offer gluten free, vegan sweets. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Overall, everything from the initial call to the details of the ordering. Dan is the man! He is very kind and patient. He definitely will work with you and make your event super tasty.

Yelp
With the popularity of Borekas (Bo-re-kas) Sephardic Pastries in Sherman Oaks, I was determined to find an old school joint that bakes traditional bourekas. Thanks to Google search I found Bibi's in West LA in the Jewish corridor. I picked up the recommended cheese boureka and potato boureka. They are traditionally triangular in Israel from my research for images. They also had Turkish spinach and cheese bourekas in the shape of a small looped-up tube. I also picked up up some fluffy fresh pita bread to take home. They also recommended their sandwiches like the sabich which I will try next time.

Yelp
If you are in the area you must visit Bibi's. It is so great. The smell alone coming from the bakery is wonderful. Besides the bakery, they also serve food and all of it is great. This place is the real deal. Bibi's is an Israeli bakery that has a special stone oven (Tabun). They have great Middle Eastern breads, pastries and dishes--like breakfast items and even early dinner items. They have daily Burrekas, Sambusak (a Middle Eastern calzone), and pita toastees. You can't go wrong with any of these. They are not an American knockoff. They are made by people who know how to make the real things. They have a Greek salad that is just perfect and filled with fresh ingredients. Also, try their pizza, it is so tasty. Their homemade bread is fresh, made daily and you can smell it the minute you walk in the door. It is just the best. They have amazing pastries and their donuts are super. They don't make a thing here that is not wonderful and the service is ever so kind and friendly. Try Bibi's.

Yelp
Great kosher treats, very friendly staff, and a nice little spot to pick up some sweet treats for you and your family !

Sandie B.

Yelp
Bibi's was the third stop on our little self-made hamantaschen tasting tour of LA, and it was the RUNAWAY WINNER! They didn't look great sitting there in the case, and there were only three left--two apricot and one chocolate. The person working there suggested the apricot, and--none of us really into apricot--we prepared to be disappointed. But wow! The taste was unparalleled. Perfect texture, good filling, good filling-to-cookie ratio... It was also far less expensive than the other places we tried. Win-win! Hands down, Bibi's makes the best hamantaschen in town. (Also, I couldn't resist buying a bag of the pita topped with the Everything seasoning, and was delicious! Just don't accidentally leave it in your car overnight like I did, or your car will smell like a bagel shop...)

Yelp
Home in the wall great kosher bakery located in the heart of Pico blvd area. Lots of bagels, breads and baked goodies to choose from. Also coffee menu as well. Super nice service and some inside and outdoor tables to nom at. I prefer here as the pastries aren't over sweet which is nice.
google avatar

Yelp
We order from Bibi's often where I work, and today we had a large catering order. The large salads were beautifully put together, and our other items were also perfect. Everything was delicious, and Dan was kind enough to send some large serving spoons (which I had forgotten to bring, so it was very much appreciated!) Dan has a wonderful and kind staff who are always ready to help out in any way.

Yelp
First time here! I live in Santa Monica but was in the area visiting a friend of mine . We split the Israeli breakfast special- It comes with a two egg omelette, Israeli salad, your choice of bagel (I picked the pretzel bagel), and cream cheese. Also got to try their ice coffee which was much needed In today's heat. Everything tasted great and the service was awesome. I even went back there on my way home and got two of the Bourekas. It came with a delicious sauce. Yum! Would definitely be back next time I'm in the area. There is also a small dining area outside.
google avatar

Stacey J.

Yelp
We tried 4 different Bourekas, a Jerusalem bagel and a couple cookies. The Bourekas were the standout, with great flaky dough, tasty filling, and a delicious dipping sauce. The Jerusalem bagel was also good, but the cookies tasted a tad stale. Overall, we'll be back for the savory pastries.

Derick G.

Yelp
The bakery items are so so tasty. But if you want or need friendly customer service, I recommend going somewhere else.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite kosher breakfast spot . I always get the toastee on seasme pita with eggs, mozzerlla cheese , mushrooms , onions and avocado. The garlic sauce is a must ! We also love their sufganiyot during hannukah . They have both mini and large size and they are made fresh daily .
google avatar

Laura W.

Yelp
Love their salads! The salad dressing is delicious, the vegetables are always fresh. Super friendly too.

David A.

Yelp
This bakery is incredible. From the pastries to the breads and the pizza. But you can't leave here without trying their bourekkas and toasts. To die for!!

Yelp
I'm so happy BB's is in my neighborhood. It's hard to stand out in an area filled with bakeries. BB's is exceptional! I've had so many of their items and all of them are stellar. Light and fluffy. They're chocolate chip muffin was probably the best muffin I've had in my life! Great pita bread. Everything is good. Every time I go there, Dan is very nice. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
I've always wanted to come here as I drove by before and finally made it and I'm so glad! Clean shop with lots of delicious treats! Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Will be back for dine-in food!

Yelp
Me and my pham have been going to Bibi's for years. I remember going there saturday nights in high school when it was owned by the israeli guy. Dan really improved the place and its always a treat going there - from their brick oven for pizza to their salads. Shkoyach Dan!
google avatar

Yelp
An awesome "has it all" bakery - among a street of great food shops. Friendly service and delicious selections. Highly recommend! Recently had an everything Bagel with Lox, and the works. Outstanding in every way. Well done.

Yelp
I love this place! They have an amazing pastries, burekas and challa bread. Their salads are delicious, and everything is always fresh made. Costumer service is great. 5 stars all the way

Yelp
My friend and I had an incredibly delightful experience at Bibi's Bakery & Cafe! The food was exceptionally delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Yelp
4.5/5 stars, Bibi's is very cute and reminds me of a few bakeries in Jerusalem I would visit when I lived in Israel. I've had 3 (2 jelly and 1 custard) of their sufganiyot so I think that is more than enough to be able to write a review. The custard one was delicious, I preferred this over the jelly. My only regret is not trying chocolate, there is always next year. I must say, they definitely do not skimp with the filling. I was very impressed with the amount of custard and jelly in each donut. I've also tried the pita and challah, I found the challah rather dry but enjoyed the pita very much. I don't think it's fair to complain about parking, I saw someone mention that in a review. This is Los Angeles and certain areas have more challenging parking. I found it easy, street parking is available or a meter. I'd like to return to try the bagel everyone keeps mentioning, it sounds delicious.
google avatar

Florence V.

Yelp
I've learned that if food all around the world were its own language, I would be fluent. Let's add to my vocabulary: bourekas. I've never had a boureka before, but I'm so glad that Bibi's were my first. I ordered potato & mushroom, feta & olive, plain potato, plain mozarella, and Turkish bourekas. They were all so delicious. Do I have a favorite, you ask? Well, that's like asking if you have a favorite child. So, yes, yes I do have a favorite. Potato & Mushroom, but the others are equally delicious. If you're in the Beverly Hills area, stop by and expand your food vocabulary!
google avatar

Janna T.

Yelp
Pastries (omg, the cinnamon bun!!!) and pita (fluffy and so flavorful) are delicious, but I prefer a much chewier bagel. Great flavor, though! :)
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
I walked in as they were closing looking for a quick sandwich. The kitchen was closed but they were nice enough to let me order anyway and even got me extra stuff and talked to me while I was waiting. I got the egg salad sandwich. It was really good. Heavy and perfect for what I was looking for.
google avatar

Hannah P.

Yelp
Upsetting when you want a breakfast sandwich/bagel, pay extra to add eggs and both orders do not come with egg... so now it's just bread with tomato sauce
google avatar

Julia X.

Yelp
Spicy tuna melt in the pita with unlimited toppings is off the chain
google avatar

Samantha A.

Yelp
It's good but there are other bakeries I'd rather go... it's a bit pricey and I found the baked goods to only stay good a couple of days .
google avatar

Oksana P.

Yelp
Walking in... the feeling was overwhelming like stepping into a beloved family member's home. It was our first time here and we happened to come on a Friday morning. Everyone was preparing for Sabbath. The place was busy, with people coming in and leaving with huge bags of freshly baked goodies. The owner was very welcoming and kind and explained the menu to us. We ordered a Jerusalem bagel toastie with tuna and an original tuna sandwich on a sesame flatbread. Both were phenomenal. We also ordered a rugalach and the owner saw my excitement over all the baked goods that he threw in an extra one!! These reminded me of my childhood... my mom used the same dough recipe and I instantly was transported to those memories. We'll be coming back FOR SURE!!
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
This place has excellent food, but moves stale product. I had the shakshuka, which was spicy and filling. The eggs on it were perfectly cooked. The quiche was a little unusual for a quiche, but it was delicious. The pretzel was good but very tough. If you told me it was a day-old, I would believe you. Same with the black and white cookie, which was just thrown in in a paper wrapper with the rest of the food, so all the icing melted. If you can go in and talk to someone to make sure what you're getting is fresh, this is probably at least a four-star place. But if you are at the mercy of whoever packs the delivery bag, it is not.
