10 Dallas Sandwiches That Will Cure Even the Worst Hangover

"Bologna has gotten a bad wrap, but Shoals’ “Nitty Gritty” is turning the tables on the standard childhood sandwich. Choose the half size, or spring for the whole pound - this sandwich will change the way diners look at bologna (and sandwiches in general). It’s tangy and savory thanks to a generous smear of pickled vegetables." - Lauren Coe

Google
Wanted to try this spot out because of the ratings & we like Halal Guys. The rice is excellent, but everything else is just ok. We paid $2 for Pita & you can see that I didn't even get a 1/2 of a pita bread. Our lamb tasted seasoned but was overcooked. For the amount you pay, you would think you would get more meat & toppings. It's a good place if you're in the area & just want something to eat.

Google
Very tiny little place with about 6 tables that can seat about 18 people, but there is a long bar against the wall for people to stand if needed. I ordered the Big Guys Mixed Platter - combination bowl with chicken and gyro meat. Served on rice with fresh veggies and a white sauce (ranch) and an orange sauce (small amount of spice). It was very filling and fresh for sure...they source all of their produce from a local farmers market which is really cool that they are supporting their community.

Google
Great tasting food. Arguably better than halal guys imo. The rice is probably one of the best I've had in a shawarma style joint. The chicken and lamb were very flavorful. The pop pricing is a little outrageous (2.90 for a likkle bottle!!), or they could've gotten my full 5 stars!

Zubair Ahmad

Google
all halal!! bowl isn’t as big for $12. paratha roll and pita rolls were great. a bit pricey but good option. no parking nearby.

Timothy Owens

Google
Their NYC halal platters are amazing! The rice is really good, the chicken is marinated, juicy, and tender, and the signature sauces top it all off! I've never heard of aloo prior to eating here, but I've grown to love that too!!

Mohammed Suratwala

Google
The sauces are tasteless. Its bland food. Here is a photo of the big guys mix rice platter.

Google
If you want good halal food, do not order from here. The white and red sauce are not the regular white and red sauce. Not even close. Food Portion is tiny… I’m not even sure if I got double meat. If I did, the regular portion is sad. If you order a “side pita”, you get maybe 1/2 a pita cut into strips. I had high hopes but this isn’t it.

Google
Place had a weird oder. I place my order with a young lady. I clearly told her beef. I waited and got my food. They ended up giving me chicken platter instead.. I didn't want chicken. I was on my way to woek and didn't have anymore time to wait to waste. I definitely need a refund or something..

Yelp
This is the best take out Mediterranean place in Dallas. The food is always consistently fresh and seasoned well even if you order really late at night. We always order the mixed rice platter with the chicken and gyro meat (lamb) which is enough food to satisfy a football player appetite like mine or can be shared between two light eaters. The hummus and pita bread are good side options. It's guaranteed that my family and friends will order delivery here at least once a week. If they opened up more locations around DFW with a drive thru and marketed more it would lines like Chick fil a at lunch time. Don't miss out, this place is at Fat Kid at Heart approved!

Yelp
Solid spot for late night food, although it can definitely get hectic especially on the weekends! Went with the Big Guys Mixed bowl, and after a night a drinking, hits the spot. Large portions, lots of protein. Solid gyro and the marinated was good although some pieces are a bit dry. The sauces are great, but if you are expecting the crazy level of spiciness from the red sauce like in NY, gonna be disappointed. Much more mild here and creamier, which works really well with the seasoned rice. Had a bite of my friend's Aloo, which is this fried seasoned mashed potato and wow it is good. In fact I liked it so much, I went back and got my own. I didn't finish the original bowl but that aloo was worth it. Not a large space inside for dining in, which makes sense since most had their order as take-out!

Sal H.

Yelp
Their food is not zabiha halal. Online it says halal, but workers said it wasn't Zabiha halal, it's just normal meat.
google avatar

Dwaneika C.

Yelp
I want to say that I ordered online and this has to be one of the best lamb and beef Mediterranean bowls I have ever had. The meat was so tender. The fries were perfectly crisp and the flavors were present. They did forget my fork though, but I am a very innovative lady, and found a gas station on the way and it was delicious. I didn't dine in, so I can't really stay with the service is on the ambience was a small little shop but it was well-maintained.

Yelp
Just came back to remind People about 1 of the Best Behemoth Monstrosities of a Meal You'll ever get to Eat in Yo Whole ENTIRE FKN LIFE... Its called a NEW YORK CHICKEN PLATTER. ADD 2 PC ALOO W/ EXTRA WHITE SAUCE. Trust me People Get off this Free App & GetchyoAssDownThurrr!!! LOL
google avatar

Pete X.

Yelp
I'm lovin' the food in Dallas and the Mixed Rice Platter is part of the reason why! Phenomenal!!!
google avatar

Fern D.

Yelp
Food was okay, probably won't come back. I ordered the NYC chicken rice platter, I wouldn't call it a platter though because it was just rice and chicken with shredded lettuce and tomatoes in a bowl. It lacked flavor so I had to pour a bunch of sauce on it, I also added falafel. The aloo was pretty good, it was my first time having it. Their menu is small, you have the option to pick from wraps, rice platters, or salads. Overall, not your typical authentic Mediterranean place.

Yelp
Decided to stop by Bad Guy randomly for lunch and did not regret it. The service was great and quick. We got our food pretty quickly and the guy behind the counter was quick and to the point (which I love). The interior isn't anything to write home about but the food was a different story. I had the NYC Chicken Platter and it was so dang good. It was flavorful with a great kick of heat. Get some pita on the side , it's so worth it.
google avatar

Tavani C.

Yelp
The falafel wraps here are incredible! No notes. Ok one note: Flavors are perfectly balanced but for $13, it's a pretty small wrap!
google avatar

Katherine H.

Yelp
Best chicken and rice bowls! Just like New York. Portions are great with lots of protein. I recommend an order of the aloo with your meal. Also if you like hot sauce their hot sauce is perfection. Way better than Halal Guys! Added plus they are open late.
google avatar

Ty C.

Yelp
I'll bump the 4 star food review to 5 stars overall because the service was really good even past 1am and the food was fresh, and they were open serving quality food. Portions are a little smaller than I would expect, but it was good enough to take off the edge. Similar to Halal Guys, but much better in my opinion. The restaurant was clean, even late night. I appreciate that they took pride in their food, quality, service, and cleanliness even on the super late night on a Friday. Found them on yelp and they delivered.
google avatar

Yelp
I was really disappointed. I was craving lamb over rice and this was the closest thing I could find in downtown. The restaurant is fairly small but I can see it getting packed late at night since there's a lot of bars around. My bf and I ordered the beef and lamb rice platter and a side of the waffle fries. The lamb/beef wasn't seasoned well, it tasted old and was dry. The lettuce and tomatoes didn't taste fresh. The rice was also dry. The red sauce wasn't spicy at all (but it's normally super duper spicy at other places). The only thing I truly enjoyed were the waffle fries. They were crispy and was seasoned well. It had a bit of a spicy kick. Overall, I wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
It's definitely a solid go to!! Quick service food was amazing and great hospitality!

Yelp
Food was great. Order the chicken dish. I loved the flavor. Everything about this meal was delicious. The veggies were very fresh. I ordered from Uber eats so I'm not sure about the service or ambiance but I'll definitely order again very soon!

Yelp
Falafel Salad I have been anxious to try this place and finally, had a chance to do so. The establishment was very clean, and the cashier was very knowledgeable about the menu. The menu was easy to understand and well made, I wish they had to-go menus, as well. You can order online, but there is a fee attached, I'll pass. My salad: The falafel and pita were dang delicious, however, the lettuce was saturated in water, which made my falafel a bit soggy. I will not get a salad again, but I will definitely try some of the other things on their menu. *This is for the new Euless, location.
google avatar

Yelp
Halal guys watch out! These guys are something special as well. Perfect late night eats after a long night in deep ellum. The mix combo was amazing and loved the gyro meat. The white sauce is gold! Place is a winner and must try.
google avatar

Alesha P.

Yelp
Yup!! Good food, great service! I was in and out! My husband and I come here all the time for take out and they never disappoint!
google avatar

Chelsea D.

Yelp
Best late night food I've ever had! Had no idea what I wanted. Said I needed beef, lamb, rice and jalapeños and they made it happen. They were very kind and patient. The spicy sauce was phenomenal and I was absolutely blown away by how good this food was! It seems unassuming but I'm telling you this food was bangin!
google avatar

Jaden G.

Yelp
Love love love this place. I've been to two locations and have a good experience every time. Food is cooked right and it's always to my satisfaction.
google avatar

Peyton V.

Yelp
This was such a disappointment. We couldn't even eat it, we threw it away. Halal guys is better
google avatar

Ruchika M.

Yelp
Uber Eats kinda night, rip the wallet. My boyfriend ordered Lamb + Chicken bowls for the two of us; gotta say the price really adds up when purchased through the app... But we must concede, the food here is flavorful. My boyfriend especially loves the Aloo (potato) patties despite them costing a hefty extra. I love them too! They're creamy and savory. The meat in the bowl is delicious - I'm particularly fond of the lamb gyro - so meaty and juicy wahhh. I also like the long, thin Basmati rice this restaurant uses. The greens are dressed in a spicy, delicious vinaigrette that makes eating salad very enjoyable!! My boyfriend paid extra for double meat but we compared our two bowls and there was hardly a difference. For $4 more they're scamming - not cool. We probably won't eat here again but we really enjoyed it the one time!

Yelp
Perfect dinner option for a cold night when I wanted something warm and comforting. The chicken and rice plate with extra white sauce hit the spot and left me with enough leftovers for another meal. Perfect platter with a side of lettuce and tomatoes next to yellow rice overlaid with seasoned shredded chicken blanketed with soft pita. Even better, they are open late and have delivery options.
google avatar

Jennings U.

Yelp
Fire. Awesome location in Deep Ellum. Big Guy's chicken is awesome! They do a great job and they're prices are fairly reasonable given the portions. The services is fast, so it's common for your order to be ready in less than 10 min. from time of order.
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
incredible everytime. i get the meal with the beef lamb and chicken. rice is always perfect. pita is i tried watching the world cup game too but our iPad wouldn't connect at work who knows why. food is A+ everytime i get it. halal guys doesn't taste half as good.
google avatar

Kenya R.

Yelp
I wanted a gyro, but then decided to get a beef and lamb rice platter with an Aloo patty. Yum! The meat was tender and flavorful. You get a lot of food in my opinion. I had enough leftover for a snack the next day. It was my first time eating there, so I didn't know that it automatically came with the red sauce which was kind of spicy (I'm a lightweight). I was sure to say I wanted white sauce with extra white sauce. I thought it was like Halal Guys where they only put the sauce you ask for. I also think the guy answering the phone could be a tad more pleasant. I will return.
google avatar

Andrena J.

Yelp
This was quite the hidden gem in deep ellum. The food was Mediterranean style. The food was good but if you can't handle spicy food you might wanna pass. Everything on the menu seems to be spicy. My husband loved it, but my heartburn couldn't take it. I wish they had another option for there chicken that was less spicy and it would definitely be 5 stars!
google avatar

Maggie M.

Yelp
Wow! I am super impressed with all the wonderful explosions going on in my mouth! Wheee!!! Oh where have you been all my life! So sorry honey! I found a new love! Wow! Wonderful flavors. I tried beef n lamb rice platter and Gyro fries. Way to much food for one person, but sooo so good. In one word... WOW!!!
google avatar

Meghan M.

Yelp
SO GOOD. The sauces were so fresh and the rice was buttery and delicious! I would highly recommend this place.

Amber S.

Yelp
Gross . Questionable meat was supposed to be chicken but weird texture. Made me sick do not recommend

Cody S.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. The portions are huge and the food is top tier. Another place just like it near me closed a few years back but this is just like it.
google avatar

Donna d.

Yelp
The food is very good. It right in the heart of deep ellum. It's a counter service restaurant with everything cooked to order. I got the falafel wrap. My friend got rice and chicken plate. They loved it.
google avatar

Amy J.

Yelp
We went to the NEW Euless location for dinner last night. Wow! We all had the mixed grill special with the added Aloo! A definite must have. The menu had a lot of different options and the service was superb. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Anthony B.

Yelp
Taste is on point. Large portions. Mixed wrap is my favorite. I get extra red and white sauce on the side. This is also perfect for UberEats orders. Food gets wrapped in foil and actually stays warm. I wish I could've brought this place with me to Philadelphia
google avatar

Chow Y.

Yelp
This is sort of like "poor man's" expensive Lebanese food, with a little Indian and greek and Persian and Armenian hybridization lol. It's like the United Nations of United Nations! Anyway. The food is okay. If I get desperate, I eat it sometimes. Pretty strong after taste. Meat is very dry and sort of stringy. Price is 3 times what it should be. Although rice is nice and veggies are fresh. Dallas central doesn't have much good middle eastern or Mediterranean food to speak of, so once in a while--this can do the trick. If they had fresh, juicy chicken and meat--this would be a great spot. In the meantime, they're giving you a little taste of something that if you've never had it before, you might really enjoy. I guess that's better than nothing.
google avatar

Daisy M.

Yelp
In all honesty, my fiancé & I couldn't decide what we wanted to get. With me trying to be healthy & him being my biggest supporter we decided to give it a try since everything else was closed (this was past 10pm). Once we walked in they had great customer service, nothing wrong with the facility. It just wasn't for us, but if you're into Mediterranean or want a spot that's open late & sort of healthy I would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
Great food and open super late. The curly fries and the tzatziki were awesome. Support your local business.
google avatar

Tania R.

Yelp
Too. Freaking. Delicious. If you've ever had legit NY style chicken and rice, then you would LOVE Big Guys. The flavor profile is way more complex and intended than your typical Halal Guys. I've had tons of different chicken and rice type places but this place tops all. Their chicken was seasoned perfectly. I tend to find myself having bland chicken and needing sauce to make it have good taste. I also tried their aloo and falafel and could not stop eating them. The seasoning is way too spot on to miss out on. So flavorful. Their sauces are awesome too. You have your typical white sauce that you find at chicken and rice carts but it definitely tasted more fresh than just your packaged sauce. Their hot sauce DOES have heat so be careful if you're not used to heat. The best part of the meal? Their Nutella paratha. Gah, so irresistible. I was already full from my entree but I couldn't say no. And I'm glad I didn't! Definitely a must have. All in all, don't skip out on Big Guys. You won't regret it!
google avatar

Sid B.

Yelp
This is a Shawarma/Gyro place that tries too hard to be Americanized and that kills it for me. I was so excited to find a gyro place near downtown/deep ellum, until I tried it. Even though the owners are Middle Eastern the place has no hint of the culture. And I don't mean just in terms of decorations, but also taste. It's basically just grilled chicken.
google avatar

Tri T.

Yelp
Big guy chicken is a great late night food options near downtown Dallas. The veggies are fresh and meat are tender and moist. I was surprisingly impressed by quality of their food. You did a great job Big Guy. Pros: open really late, awesome Mediterranean food.
google avatar

Sara I.

Yelp
Got a big appetite? Big Guy's, delivers. Chicken and rice. All things spicy and right. NY style comfort food found in the Deep Ellum. Try the falafels with tahini. Pair it with a crisp lemonade. Make sure your chicken and rice is doused with all that white sauce. Pair it with fluffy pita bread. (More like Greek flat bread). The wraps look just as good as the platters. I would recommend this spot if in the area. Have a good walk afterwards. You might not be in NY but at least this place can take the taste buds down memory lane.
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
It was yummy! Don't let the size deceive you since it looks small but it's enough food for my tummy! The flavors were good and the quality was good too. Overall good Mediterranean kabob place!
google avatar

steven l.

Yelp
Dan da man was cool and professional as help! You know what I mean lol. He is awesome and is fast at taking care of customers. Listens to are requeste and delivers! I'm a big bbq fan but after I was recommended by Jermaine to come and try the lamb and beef gyro bowl I came back twice (2 consecutive nights) even after an Uber driver recommended me to a 24 bbq spot (you know which one it is ) I chose here. I know hospitality when I see it. Got to give a shout out to my security dude Nathaniel! I can't ask for more. I'm from Los Angeles and just Because of All these good hearted cats I mentioned I'll be glad to come to visit once again!! Dallas does have some good people- mamba out peace
google avatar

Kevin J.

Yelp
This Place is Torch - Straight Fire. I was sad to see the size of the bowl but after eating I was pleasantly full. The quality of foods is amazing - it looks as advertised. It's well seasoned and flavors are amazing in every bite. The staff is super chill (ordered and picked up in person) but know their stuff. Much appreciation to you all for the friendliness and amazing food!
google avatar

Lorri D.

Yelp
I ordered the beef/lamb mix bowl and tell you what, I are that like I was a big guy! It was so good that I couldn't stop. On top of that, I had to try their waffle fries, they reviews were too good to pass them up and I was not disappointed. I also ordered the Nutella dessert burrito, not the correct name, but there was NO WAY I could even have a bite of it by the time I worked my way through that bowl...it was delicious for breakfast the next day! I'm a fan and I'll be back.
google avatar

Cheyenne G.

Yelp
GOODNESS YUM YUM YUM! This is the late night destination when you're wrapping up your night in Deep Ellum! It satisfies all your boozy cravings. There's always a little line because this place is just that GOOOOOD!!! The staff is always so friendly and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. For the price, it's freaking amazing!!
google avatar

Mitchy M.

Yelp
I'm happy about a few things. I'm happy they are open late and i'm happy they are in Uber Eats. With that being said, are Halal Guys paying people to give shout outs & comps in their reviews of this spot?? Seriously..i guess that makes it that much easier for me to get my order. Especially since this location is so convenient to the Deep Ellum residents & night life visitors. For the price, I can't & won't complain. I mean..it cost me under $10. My order didn't take long. I'm not a sauce "connoisseur" so this works for me as much as their competition. My personal taste is for a splash of hot sauce or Sirancha. I guarantee I will be a late night regular. Parking: typical Deep Ellum struggle. Street parking limited. Parking lots are around ( late night weekends can be a pain). Walking after leaving the bar or Uber Eats..YES!!
google avatar

Lance L.

Yelp
Nice spot Nice staff Hot and fresh food Awesome recommendations from staff Nice music Fast service Good pricing Second time having this place (first time ordered big guys mixed platter..was freaking awesome) Food pictured is beef/lamb gyro Red sauce is a little toooo spicy for me so i mix it with the white and it's an awesome combo Def trying other items from the menu
google avatar

Tonenisha J.

Yelp
In Deep Ellum and usually take a while so order over the phone if possible. I order the combination bowl with extra red and white sauce and extra pita. They ALWAYS forget the pita. Quality of meat isn't the same either. Not as much flavor but still a 3/5
google avatar

Pauline P.

Yelp
Sad to say this but the entire time I was eating here I was wishing I was at Halal Guys instead. I would much rather support the local guy than the chain that is Halal Guys but until Big Guy's can improve I'll continue to be a Halal Guys regular. The food came out fast which is great. The rice itself is not bad. The lettuce and tomatoes were both very fresh. The chicken was no bueno and I thought it was really gritty for chicken. Overcooked? I was pretty indifferent about the gyro. None of the meat in the mixed rice platter were juicy. The white sauce was watery and didn't have that thicker, creamier texture that you want to bind your rice with the other ingredients. The taste of the white sauce wasn't totally there either. The red sauce is okay if you're not that into spice. It tastes kind of like a mixture of chili garlic sauce and something else. I do like the fact that it's open late. It's got your drunk eats covered since it's open til 4am on weekends!

Yelp
Enjoyed my quick take out experience with this chill, modern middle eastern cuisine. Chatted with owner, Saad, about business morals and values. Definitely refreshing to know a business owner who shares the same ideal in the business industry. I pray for your continued success Saad and congrats! safe to assume customer service was stellar. Ordered Big Guy's Mixed Rice Platter. Beef, lamb and chicken over their signature orange rice with a side salad - topped with red and white sauce. Rice didn't have much taste to me. A little bland and the meat helped to carry it over. The chicken was my favorite over the other. Then beef and lamb (gyro texture is weird for me and I struggle with it everywhere). The real beauty was the potato cake (Aloo), which was stuffed with some type of divineness. I could honestly just order these and life would be good, really good. I hear it's similar in comparison to Halal Guys so I'm interested to see flavor differences.
