"With only four protein options and limited toppings, Big Island Poke in Renton does not overcomplicate things, relying on good fish and marination to do the heavy lifting. For a consistently good lunch in Renton, choose from tako, salmon, and tuna (Hawaiian or spicy), which comes on top of warm rice, fresh greens, or tortilla chips for poke nachos. Be sure to add cucumber kimchi, a squeeze of cream cheese aioli, and crispy fried onions to make that poke house a home. " - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

"An independent poke bar run by Hawaiian native, Jaydean Gabriel, who puts his own touch on the popular dish. From the tako poke, octopus marinated in shoyu and kimchi, to the California roll take composed of imitation crab, cucumber, and avocado, Gabriel offers variety on top of classic tuna or salmon. Look out for intriguing rotating specials, like the loco moco, all offered to go." - Alana Al-Hatlani

These poké nachos are fire. Portion was huge, we shared. Salmon was super fresh and flavorful. Service was amazing as well, walked us through all the choices. Will come back soon!

Google
One of my favorite poke spots! Always tastes fresh & so flavorful. Portion sizes are great, & pricing is reasonable.

Google
Staff and service were fine. The food is terrible. I paid $28 for a plate and the sides that cost extra money. The salmon I ordered is disgusting. All the fish proteins are drenched in sauce prior, some may be great but mine was not. This is not a place to come if you expect to choose your own sauce and flavor on clean fish. The salmon I ordered was noxiously and overpoweringly drenched in vinegar and even the plain rice in this dish can't absorb enough to make this not taste like I'm punching my throat with vinegar. I sat here a while thinking if I should return it and ask for my money back, but I hate wasting anything especially food so I have sat here trying to grit my teeth and eat it but it's so awful. The toppings are fine but expect to pay extra since the only free sides are onions and cucumbers. I won't be back there are so many better poke places around here. Sorry to this local business, very unfortunate.

When you’re craving poke, this is fantastic! Good quality, simple and easy to order. Great service as well! Will definitely be back! #OnoGrindz

Google
Great spicy tuna bowl. Tender and flavorful fish.

Raena Joy Pease

Google
Ordered the spicy tuna bowl with white rice. The fish was fresh, the sauces are flavorful and I like that you can customize your bowl with the toppings you prefer. Service was friendly and fast.

Google
High quality ingredients and excellent tasting poke! It is slightly more expensive than some other non-local poke spots though (partly due to it costing extra for seaweed salad, crab salad, etc). May return in the future if I am craving poke and in the area!

Google
Great value for the price, and loved every bite of it. I regret not going sooner! They had several kinds of poke, and with the plate I could add two kinds. Delicious!

Yelp
TIP WITH CASH NOT CARD. My coworker and I went to dine at Big Island Poke today, and the young man who served me and I believe his name was Cristian was really great. He gave us a warm greeting and gave me extra sauce when I asked for it. I made the decision to tip him at that point. I then asked him how much he makes from tips, and he said that it ranges from 1 to 10. When I asked why, he replied that he only keeps cash tips, and I was furious because I tip 10% and most people only carry card and tip with card what's the point of them not keeping card tips.

Yelp
Good portions good flavors and great service 10/10 very nice island vibe in house with lots of open lighting

Eugene I.

Yelp
Best poke in WA. Great fish quality and service is always good! Been coming for 5 years.

Serena W.

Yelp
Although this is once of the more pricey poke places (charges extra for some toppings), I enjoy the poke bowls here and the staff is always friendly. A lot of construction around the area so not the most convenient location but I'd recommend if you're in the area and craving a poke bowl!!

Paxton S.

Yelp
I love Big Island Poke! The food is so tasty. the poke is great quality and this family owned business is such a local favorite. I love the owners and appreciate their strong work ethic and kind hearts. the service is always immaculate and the vibe they bring is definitely ohana.

Joshua J.

Yelp
Okay let's get straight to the point. If you like poke then this place is the best in town. I've had Poké from a few of the other locals and this place takes them by a mile. Service is quick and friendly. Ambiance is chill. Food is 5 stars in my opinion. If you disagree I would question your combination of protein with sauce and toppings.

Devora L.

Yelp
Y'all this poke is so tasty! While it's more on the expensive side, this one is worth it. You have to pay additional for sides but the quality of the fish is fresh and you get good chunks! When I was there they had just chopped onions so my eyes were crying lol!! But it just showed how fresh the sides were too! The person who was making my bowl was friendly and she was not stingy with the portions. They had some good music playing and a constant flow of customers, even with the construction going on outside.

Morgan N.

Yelp
Yassssss this is some good poke! Big hand-cut chunks of ahi in their Hawaiian sauce had me gobbling down my bowl. I added some extra spicy krab and seaweed salad. The krab was ok but the seaweed salad was delicious. I will probably get double the seaweed next time. The brown rice was perfectly cooked as well I was the only in-store customer at the time but Doordash orders were flying out the door. Employee was super helpful and very easygoing. Made me feel very welcome. They don't have as many crazy toppings as the chain stores but the poke is so dang good that they don't need all that stuff. Definitely worth a stop. The only reason I talk to them a point was because the poke gave me explosive diarrhea! X/

Luz U.

Yelp
There was limited options for toppings and protein. There was no edamame, no picked ginger, no jalapeño, no mango, no avocado, or fried onion. There was no option for plain salmon sashimi or shrimp. They up charged me for seaweed and crab salad . Plus he over charged me for the crab salad. Just poke in the landing is better. Plus it's way over priced for very little protein.

Katerina S.

Yelp
I love coming here. Their food is always tasty. The servers are always nice to me and the atmosphere is welcoming and clean. It's not Close to where I live so whenever I'm in that area I try to stop by. I have not had a bad experience with them yet so I highly recommend.

Yelp
Stopped by this place at around 2pm on a Saturday. The place is quiet and the parking lot looks kinda empty, but it was in fact open! The girls serving us were very kind to explain their system and serving sizes. I got a bowl which includes one very generous sized scoop of fish. You are able to get half scoops in order to maximize the flavors for your bowl. I would say that one half scoop is comparable to other full sized scoops at chain poke restaurants in the Seattle area. They do charge $1 extra for sides. My bowl came out to be about $18. I got white rice, half salmon, half spicy ahi, crab salad, seaweed salad, and spicy aioli. The fish is pre-marinated, Hawaiian style. The flavor was good, not too salty or spicy, but the fish could be a bit fresher. There are not too many toppings so the fish is the main focus. Overall, still a nice local spot to grab poke in Renton!

Yelp
Not an easy location to get into, especially with all the construction going on in the area. I thought it was over priced for what you got. I got the plate with ahi and kimchi tako. The ahi had no flavor. I ended up not eating the kimchi tako because it tasted like someone dumped bag of salt in it as well as having this funky taste like it was going bad. I got the spicy cucumber and the plain cucumber. The spicy cucumber was not spicy at all but really vinegary and the plain cucumber was really bitter and not edible. And I can't believe they charged me a $1 for a small bite of the seaweed salad. There are so many other Poke places that I feel are much better and will be going there instead.

Oh Let's E.

Yelp
I was very excited to try this place because people were raving about it. We got the birria noodles, sushi fries, spicy tuna and the pink passion fruit drink. ( I think that's what it's called ) The birria noodles had ZERO flavor. I asked the girl about the broth and she said next time she'll add extra chicken bouillon in it lmao. Yeah no. The drink was extremely sweet we could not drink it. Spicy tuna was a hit. If you don't like spicy don't get it. The fries were okay a little on the dry side but not bad. We came back just for the fries and requested if they could add more sauce on the fries before the crabmeat. The guy did not add the sauce. Not sure if he didn't hear us or what lol Definitely don't recommend. This place is very pricey. You can get better food for cheaper somewhere else.

Yelp
Week 20/52 in my endeavor to try one new (to me) local spot per week! I'm one of those people who is ALWAYS craving sushi and or poké. I could eat either (or both) every single day. I've had Big Island in my bookmarks forever, and when I was visiting my mom nearby, I decided a lunch stop was essential! For as small as this place is, they've got a nice big parking lot. There's one or two tables outdoor for dining, and a couple spots inside, but it's really not meant for you to sit and linger. Eat and go, or eat in your car! I went with the Spicy Ahi Tuna special - tuna, masago, chili oil, sriracha garlic aioli, and green onions. I also added avocado and crab. The additions made my lunch a little spendy, but it was worth it. Everything about this bowl was delicious! Great flavor, and each ingredient tasted incredibly fresh. I love spicy poké bowls, and the Spicy Ahi Tuna was exactly what I had been craving. Great spot for lunch in the Renton area!

Yelp
New city, new state, gotta find new spots. So we're here Big Island Poke, gave them a shot and it was good. The quality of poke (fish) was very clean and tasty. Only issue that I was use to back in SoCal is that the sides are included, here some of the sides are a dollar per side. Overall the poke was good and I would come back. Also had to wash it all down with a POG drink

Sarah S.

Yelp
I ordered in yesterday as I needed to stay on site, and got their Salmon Poke bowl. This was very fresh, flavorful and simple. I enjoyed my poke bowl on top of a bed of greens. Based on the quality of the meal I enjoyed, I would hands down go in person! What an excellent first impression.

David H.

Yelp
The Poke here was much better during my most recent visit. The fish quality was solid and there was plenty of flavor. The salmon was definitely my favorite with how fatty it was. Everything tasted fresh compared to before and I do appreciate how generous they are with their servings. There's an overall lack of variety when it comes to fish options and sides though. I think there were 4-5 fish options and only a handful of sides. Also, most of the sides are a $1 charge. Seaweed salad and crab salad were two big ones that I'm always used to having in included in my bowls, so this is the first time I'm paying extra for that. With their bowls already at $15, adding sides can make it a bit pricy. I'll definitely come back because the fish was delicious today. Solid spot overall.

Sydney M.

Yelp
I have tried every poke place in western WA. This is hands down the best place to go. Fresh, good sauces, great portions, friendly staff.

April A.

Yelp
I wanted to take time out of my day to say how great this restaurant is. I've been coming here for years, and I've tried poké spots all over the country, including Hawaii, and this is some of the best poke bowls I've ever had. The proportions are generous, and the poke is fresh and amazing. I live 45 mins south and will go out of my way to stop by! Please open another location south in puyallup/tacoma!!

James T.

Yelp
First time trying poke and it was delicious, definitely will go back for more. California Dreamin White Rice with Kimchi Cucumber and Avocado 5

George G.

Yelp
Fresh tuna, has a lot of potential if they had more options for sides. Overall, I would recommend.

Jenisha G.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite spot because of their cream cheese aioli sauce but not anymore.. They have recently increased their already expensive pricing, give tiny portions of proteins, barely have any toppings compared to any other poke spot, and charge extra for toppings every other poke place includes in their prices... No one should be spending $20+ for a regular poke bowl. Spend your money elsewhere!!!

Kassandra M.

Yelp
Wow the food was supper good! Service was friendly and helpful. The place itself was a little small for seating.

Manu F.

Yelp
When I need my fix for Poke this is definitely da spot! Everything is simple here so there's no way to really be disappointed.

Annie N.

Yelp
Hawai'i local here weighing in on mainland poke: Big Island Poke hits the spot!! I'm not a fan of make-your-own poke, I prefer authentic Hawai'i kine mixed poke like this place. Not only are their sauces and flavors so good, but the ahi itself is fresh and soft! They serve bowls in two sizes with rice or salad, but I opted for poke by the pound ($19). I love that they add toppings and sauces of your choice AFTER weighing the poke, so you're just paying the per pound price on the actual fish. Super friendly service and huge parking lot as well. I'll definitely be back!

Jessica S.

Yelp
Not my kind of poke. I love toppings! The more the better. And although this was my first time here, and I wasn't quite sure how to make my bowl, I wasn't thrilled with the flavor combinations. Some of it might've been operator error, but I have been to poke spots before, and this one just doesn't seem to have wnough choices to spunk up your poke bowl. Without the crab salad side along with my poke bowl, it would've been very bland in my opinion. I also was a little turned off when I walked in the door, and only once the staff saw me did they begin making my food. They were otherwise preoccupied on their phones. I will say I think this was because I intended to be there 4 minutes later (as I mentioned to the man who took my order) and when I showed up early, they realized they should start my meal. This however doesn't compute in my head...if there's an order to be made, I would believe that takes priority.

Luis P.

Yelp
I try probably like 3 or 4 food is really good and yummy. But I think the price is little high.

Reva W.

Yelp
Delicious. Fresh. But dang, overpriced. $15 base price. Few topping options and of those that exist, half are add on costs! $2 avo, $1 crab, $1 spicy crab etc. whoof.

Sherwin C.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service with reasonable prices. The focus of the dishes here is really the seafood with very generous portions of fish which isn't masked by excessive amounts of toppings or sauce. Compared to other poke places I've been to, the cubes of fish are very large, and there's more than enough fish to definitely satisfy any craving you may have.

Kay L.

Yelp
Had Ubereats deliver to my work and thought I would give this place a try. I got the Salmon Poke bowl, and pretty much added all the sides possible because I wanted to try everything. The presentation was great. It was packaged great. Delivery was under 30 mins. The food itself was delicious. Their bowls are a great portion for the price. It was very filling. I love that you are able to customize your bowl. I added quite a bit of spice to mine. This rating does not reflect the customer service as I did not engage with staff or go into the restaurant. But seeing how quickly my food was prepared and how great it tasted, I stand by my rating that they are a great restaurant.

Tessa M.

Yelp
My favorite Poke place. It's a little pricier than "Just Poke" due to the fact that they charge for seaweed salad, crab, and avocado, BUT--it is much tastier. They give you big portions of the poke and it's always fresh. YUM!

Hyun Joo L.

Yelp
Bad quality Not fresh Don't have choices Just tuna and salmon everything charges I never seen don't have gingers in Poke restaurant

Reba H.

Yelp
Oh my gosh! I am screaming LOL! If only I have stopped and tried this place sooner. Literally, that is the feeling that I get after trying Big Island poke for the first time. These guys really know what they're doing. Try anything I promise that you will not regret it. Perfect location in downtown Renton right off Rainier Avenue. They offer the best in Island Park. The flavors are delicious and unique. It's like having sushi but on a bowl of amazingness. I certainly recommend this restaurant for lunch time I actually think the way that their hours work you really can't do anything but lunch but double-check their business page don't take my word for it. But I do remember them being closed at certain times of the day so it's really like a quick lunch spot. Super good, super good, super good, seriously good! To all my true yelpers check out this place for lunch and thank me later.

Brian L.

Yelp
Big Island Poke is my go-to poke place. I've tried all the other poke places around, and Big Island is hands down the best poke in Renton! So many delicious flavors packed in one bowl. I love ahi, avocado, and spicy miso. Otherwise I usually try to mix it up a bit each time I come in. The quality is always top notch, and they treat you like family! Don't bother with any of the other places in town, Big Island Poke is the best poke!

Kee M.

Yelp
The food is amazing! We haven't been to the actual restaurant but have had poke bowls, carne asada fries and birria grilled cheese at their food stand. Staff is super friendly. Highly recommend

Radha P.

Yelp
One of the best Poke places I've been to ! Everything was so fresh, staff was friendly, the bowl I got was so delicious! I can't wait to come back and try different things.

Smaly K.

Yelp
The menu is smaller than some of the places we've been to; less options of proteins, toppings, and sauces. So, my portion/poké bowl was smaller than how I usually have it. It wasn't bad, but my boyfriend and I thought it could have been more flavorful.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Found this place awhile back and have visited a number of times. This place is my go to for southend poke. The location is really well kept and perfect spot to stop and eat a quick bite. Seating available but first come first serve. I like that their menu is easy to navigate and allows of many different options for customization. Some add ons cost extra but are well worth it! They offer several different types of poke, all very flavorful and fresh! It's always consistent and never disappoints. Plenty of parking and pretty hard to miss from the main road. Glad I found a go to spot close to home!

Denise T.

Yelp
Great poke. Originally from Oahu and have been on the search for some poke that reminds me of home. Definitely recommend Big Island Poke! Getting into the parking lot was a bit difficult due to the location of the store so I had to do a u-turn to get there. The store seemed clean and had a simple menu just like back home. I was greeted by a friendly face and ordered a plate with Kimchi Tako and Spicy Ahi. It was fast and quick process! Kimchi Tako: 3/5 it was definitely okay tasting but seemed to be missing sesame oil? Spicy Ahi: 5/5 probably the best I've tried in Seattle. It was very flavorful and perfect amount of spice. Portion size was a lot more as compared to other places I've tried in Seattle. I added masago, green onion, cucumber, fried onion and had shoyu sauce on mine. It worked well together. Definitely give it a try!

Sre G.

Yelp
Delicious Poke in the Renton area! The fish was delicious and tasted very fresh. They are super quick to get your order done with pretty on-par prices (~$14-18 a bowl, good sized portions. Would definitely come back when I'm in the Renton area again

Jacques I.

Yelp
We hardly spend time in Renton, but couldn't pass up trying this popular poke place. We came an hour before closing and the place was still busy, with a steady stream of people coming in and out. Just like at most poke places - it's a build-your-own-bowl kind of joint. When we walked in there was a small line and two staffers there. The guy who was helping me was awesome, and I think he may have been the owner. (He mentioned he's originally from the Big Island.) After I told him it was my first time visiting he was super friendly, yet you could tell he was in a little rush as the line was quickly forming behind me. I saw on the menu there on the wall they had an option of a bowl and plate, so had asked about the plate and he said they're only doing bowls for now. With that said I customized mine with just an arugula salad base. I noticed that there wasn't any salmon left, so had asked about it because I was getting the large size, which is two scoops and wanted to mix salmon with spicy ahi tuna. He mentioned that unfortunately, they had ran out so just stuck with the two scoops of the spicy ahi tuna. I also added avocado for a dollar extra and he generously scooped a big chunk of avocado for me, piling my bowl high. For the most part I liked my poke bowl, but I did notice that with some of the spicy ahi tuna pieces I had the cuts of the fish had some fatty tissue still on it, so when I would chew I had to literally spit out the fat. That happened a couple times. I would've liked to have tasted how the salmon compared. I also wished that there were more toppings offered; as compared to other poke places, the selection is on the smaller side. Plus, they charge additional fees for toppings like seaweed salad, kimchi cucumbers, etc...which at other poke places is a given. I'd say the overall value of this place is on the more expensive side, especially with the fewer options you have.

Wanda L.

Yelp
A friendly staff, always a plus. However their side choices are slim & most cost extra. As well as the bowl is pretty meager in comparison to the competition. You will get 6x the side options at no additional charge & an overflowing bowl at Just Poke. 4 stars because there is nothing wrong with the food itself & staff is great.

Matt G.

Yelp
My second trip to this spot. I have been to Hawaii many times and this place is a taste of Hawaii. Service was quick. I got a bowl to go. I was in and out in less than five minutes. I got brown rice, spicy tuna and all my favorite toppings. I have to say that this place does not let me down. If you are looking for a quick fresh bite to eat and love raw fish, this is your spot. When I am feeling like sushi but don't want to fork over an astronomical price, I always spot in this spot. I travel for a living and this is always on my list of places to spot when traveling through.

Victor B.

Yelp
Overall the poke bowl was OK, this restaurant is not anything extraordinaire, I would say that it is a bit overpriced and the value it's mediocre. Personally, I would look for another poke restaurant that was less expensive as the quality of food was standard.

Holli M.

Yelp
Location is oddly placed but easy to find. Place is clean and modern. Poke is good and flavors are yummy. Definitely will be coming back to this place. And would get the rice with greens. They are very accommodating so maybe even doing 1/2 rice and greens would be the way to go if you're trying for low carb. Cuz you definitely need Rice with seaweed topping.

robyn c.

Yelp
Been meaning to check this place out for ages. Used to be a subway restaurant. Interior was very clean, sign saying masks required windows looked bright and shiny. Spoke with woman who was either the owner or owners wife. There was an assortment of veggies: sliced fresh cucumbers, masago, seaweed salad, abocado, carrots along with 4-5 different types of poke. I decided to get two scoops of poke, regular and spicy salmon with rice and planned on sharing with my son. The portions were very generous, two big scoops of poke: made me feel like i was back in hawaii at foodland 5 minutes before they close giving me such a big scoop. She gave me the cucumber, masago, and topped it off with furikake sprinkles. Please see photos. It tasted even better than it looks! The fish tasted fresh and clean, no lingering fishy aftertaste, the rice was piping hot fresh and sticky., it was the perfect amount of spicy heat ( im not a huge fan of spicy but this was the perfect heat that most people would enjoy. Because of the set up at the restaurant it reminded me more of japanese poke vs traditional island poke from hawaii but ill take it. The addition of the veggies was welcome and gave a perfect crispy cooling crunchy compliment to the soft spicy poke and steamed rice. Including tax it came to 20.00 ( 19.90) but again this was clearly two meals in one. If you enjoy poke this is a must go to spot, for the freshness and for their unique twist in presentation and ingredients. Will be back soon.

Ashley P.

Yelp
I used to love this place it was one of my favorite places to get poke in the downtown Renton area but I left yesterday feeling very disappointed. My visit yesterday I got two bowl Poke bowls with two scoops of protein and a three topping in each bowl. The sauces and the poke seemed like it was lacking something and the fish salmon did not taste fresh at all. To add to that, being charged $53 for both bowls just doesn't seem like a good deal for me especially with it all the video it said that a bowl was priced at around $15 each. I understand Businesses nowadays need to charge higher pricing for their menu items but $53 just doesn't seem like a good deal to me compared to other poke places in the area so unfortunately this will be one of my last visit here.

Jen H.

Yelp
I live on the east side and happened to be in Renton so I stopped at Big Island Poke for lunch with my partner. We both agreed that this is one of the best poke places we ate at since moving to Washington a year ago. We were initially drawn to the place because of the name - big island is our favorite island and has one of our all time favorite poke places - Umekes. We both ordered the poke bowl (platter is also available for bigger portion of poke). You can order half/half for your poke bowl so we both ordered 1/2 Spicy Ahi Tuna and 1/2 Hawaiian with mix of arugula and white rice. You can additional toppings with some being an extra charge (ex: avocado, cucumber kimchi). I didn't order it with any additional sauces and it was perfect the way it was. Oh- did I mention that they have lilikoi lemonade? Perfect for those hot summer days. Definitely would come back here and highly recommend.

Frank L.

Yelp
3 Stars = Solid and will return. Been here 3x so far, 1st time shaky as I kinda rushed it (I didnt want people in line to wait) and didnt get the right sauce mix I wanted. Still good though. 2nd time got a suggestion from da hawaiian (polynesian guy employee) that the half spicy tuna, half hawaiian was a winner, and I couldn't agree more. 3rd time, got the same half/half. Brown rice, Seaweed, Fish Egg, Onions, Green Onions, Shoyu, Sesame. For some reason though, this 3rd time the quantity was less. Not sure if that was on purpose but you can see by my picture you can see more of the bowl and food first 2 times the food was much closer to the top of the bowl. Food is solid. Quality of fish, and other accessories such as kim chee cucumber, seaweed, onions, green onions, fish eggs I have no complaints. My main problem was the difference in quantity on my third visit. Either fill it to the rim like the first 2 trips and keep the same $13.50ish price, or lower the price if the quantity is lower. I'm all about quality, which Big Island Poke delivers on, but just as important to me is cost/value/quantity. At $13.50 its a bit pricey which is not a problem, as long as it fills up more of the bowl!
