What a beautiful establishment! This is the perfect spot for an anniversary, celebration or date night. They do welcome kids and families. The ambiance is very romantic, we loved the decor! The service was exceptional everyone was so helpful and nice...they are all very good at they're jobs. Be aware that the bread they offer is NOT free....the food itself was out of this world and beyond delicious! The drinks were creative and poured to perfection! The pricing is a tad high but the experience, food and drinks are more than worth it! Definitely recommend to everyone!

What a fun place for a special occasion! Celebrated my Dad’s birthday here, and we’re so glad we chose Big Rock. We got a nice big booth that allowed us to look across the restaurant. The interior was grand yet cozy, and definitely had a buzzy vibe. I got the Smoked Old Fashioned (yummy), my dad got a glass of Champagne, and my mom had two mocktails - the CosNoPolitan and a virgin French 75. The whipped ricotta was a fab way to start off the meal, though I do wish they gave us a couple more crackers 😆 I got the Porcini Crusted Filet Mignon as my main. The gorgonzola sauce had the perfect amount of blue cheesiness, and the potato gnocchi was fresh and a wonderful addition to the filet. I wish the porcini was a bit more apparent in the dish, but it was still delicious. The spiced broccolini had a great kick to it, and the parmesan potatoes had an amazing texture and flavor to them. The service was top notch - our waitress Melissa was knowledgable, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. We also had several other staff members check on us throughout our meal.

We had been awaiting the grand reopening of this restaurant for a while and were incredibly excited when we visited. The interior of the restaurant is breathtaking and each section of the restaurant is more gorgeous than the next. Truly a beautiful place to come with a loved one or your girlfriend’s. Service was phenomenal and the staff really go above and beyond to make your dining experience great. We ordered the steak, branzino and a few sides. We did miss having good bread service with our meal. The tomato focaccia they offered was delicious, but the portion is small. We ordered 3 deserts and the creme brûlée was the winner. Overall very glad to see this spot re opened in the area.

Went to Big Rock tonight to celebrate my husband's birthday and everything was wonderful! Our server Allante was amazing and so attentive, I highly recommend asking for her on your visit! We started off with the Loaded Focaccia and the braised Veal Meatball which were amazing! My husband ordered a Smoked Old Fashioned and I ordered a Dirty Martini with Blue Cheese Olives before our entrees and they were equally fantastic. Now for our entrees, we ordered a 16oz Delmonico Ribeye and an 8oz Filet, both prepared medium and served exactly as that! As our side we had the Parmesan Potatoes and I cannot recommend them enough, they went perfectly with our meal! To finish our evening, we ordered the Stracciatella Cheesecake which was divine and a Limoncello each. Perfect way to end the night! From the hostess to the service to the very end, everything was perfection. We will definitely be back and requesting Allante as our server, she was fantastic!

A traditional Italian flare type food. Service was impeccable. Was seated promptly. Make sure you make reservations. The place is a very busy place valet parking. Food was good. I would come back again and maybe sit at the bar just to enjoy a different angle of the Restaurant. But it was very busy and hard to hear everybody at the table. We all had a good time.

When we stepped out of our car, we were greeted by very kind valet employees who immediately helped us out. The restaurant from the outside is beautiful and lit up with eye-catching lights. The inside is just as stunning with beautiful furniture and decorations that display a luxurious feel. We had a reservation at 8:30 PM, and there was a slight wait. We were standing for a while until we were finally seated. The wait was no issue for me since it gave me more time to take some pictures. The employees seated us in a beautiful part of the restaurant, which is very nice to see that there are so many different areas inside. The service itself was very pleasant and I found the staff to be quite friendly and helpful. Our server was a sweet woman who was kind and made our entire table very comfortable. She also gave me a great recommendation to order the Parmesan potatoes, which I loved. They were to die for. We ordered the burrata and calamari as appetizers to which were up to our expectations. They were very tasty and we enjoyed them. Then, for my meal, I ordered the chicken saltimbocca with a side of Parmesan potatoes. I enjoyed my dish very much. The table ordered a variety of things ranging from the pennette alla vodka to the carbonara, and I tried some of these dishes and found them to be quite delicious. The dessert was a tiramisu for my birthday and I was in love with it. The taste was incredible as I shared it amongst the members of my party. The only issue I had was that there was a small spider crawling on our table that we had to remove with our napkin, and we informed a kind employee and she apologized many times and gave us a new one. It was a bit scary, but I was glad that it was not in any of our food or drinks. Either way, the food itself was very tasty and the aesthetic made up for it. Overall, my experience at Big Rock Italian Chophouse was pleasant and I was satisfied with the service.

We were so excited to go back to one of our old favorites. It's been heartbreaking since it was closed a couple years ago. The ambiance was amazing and the service was fantastic. Unfortunately, the food was underwhelming. Too salty for sure and not enough seasoning/flavor. Shellfish is excellent. Steak was under seasoned. Lasagna was way too salty. Hopefully the kitchen staff is just working out the bugs. We will come again and hope for a better food experience.

Cameron Mitchell and his partners spent nearly $13M to redo this restaurant. Loving Ocean Prime, I was geeked to experience it. Perhaps it would rival Jeff Ruby's, Mastro's or even Pappas Bros. And finally the Detroit area would have a signature restaurant. Alas, it wasn't to be. The bar area is compact for a place that seats 360. Cocktails are $18 and nicely done. Service should have been impeccable with each server only having three tables. Of course a server called in sick so our server had four tables. But still, why did we wait more than 30 minutes to order apps? Why did our favorite employee from Ocean Prime, Tiffany, take care of the apps for us? The menu is questionable at best. The Italian Steakhouse concept doesn’t work here. I don’t want rice balls and chicken parm with my seafood platter and steak. I want hot fresh fries, mashed potatoes and good bread to dip the cocktail sauce in. Alas, they don’t serve any of these items. Oh, there is a bread service for $12, the first of its kind in the Detroit area. It matches the valet cost both not including tip. The apps were mediocre at best. Calamari was luke warm, wedge salad was so unwedge it wasn’t edible and the paper thin ahi was OK. The wait for the entrees was excruciating as so many reviewers have stated. Clearly the kitchen is either too small or overwhelmed with the menu selection. None of the pastas looked interesting. Steak? No filet larger than 10 oz. No bone-in filet or porterhouse. The potato dish they had was hard and disgusting. Desserts? Forget butter cake, key lime pie or fresh baked cookies. They have 10-layer cake slices that are tasteless. Overall, tremendous disappointment and there is zero reason for us to return. Management is well aware of the issues, but sorry Cameron, you need to step in and update both the menu and service level. Last comment. They have a second bar area but $100 to enter the cigar lounge or $5000 annually, really.

Yelp
I honestly do not understand the bad reviews for this place... like yes it's pricey but that's what you get for an upscale restaurant?! I was expecting the portion sizes to be super small based on reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised! Everything is super filling (carbs) so we had leftovers at the end of the night! The service was super quick, even for a saturday at 7pm. The pasta dishes and potatoes were the best - loaded focaccia was just okay. Honestly the 4 instead of 5 stars were mainly because our waitress checked up on us WAY too much! It was nearly every 5 minutes and I wish I was exaggerating. It's nice to be waited on, but it definitely felt overwhelming.

Yelp
From the moment you walk up, the outdoor setting is stunning, and the service from the time you're greeted is absolutely top-notch. Everyone was friendly, professional, and genuinely welcoming. The restaurant offers valet parking for $12, and there's also a small self-serve lot next door that's free, which is a nice option. The ambiance is beautiful, the interior has an upscale, old-school train station vibe that feels both elegant and cozy. Even the bathrooms were impressive! They're unisex, but each stall is private and spacious, so it still feels comfortable. The food, drinks, and service were all exceptional. You can really tell this restaurant pays attention to every detail. I have a food allergy, and my server was incredibly attentive and she double-checked everything with the kitchen to ensure my meal was safe and prepared with care. That thoughtfulness truly stood out to me. There's also a cigar lounge upstairs, which feels very exclusive. It is pricey for an annual membership, but you can pay per visit if you'd like to experience it. Overall, I'd give this place a solid five out of five stars. The attention to detail, atmosphere, and service were all top-tier , everything was amazing from start to finish.

Yelp
This was my first time at the newly renovated Big Rock and it was NYE. Overall, we were impressed. My husband set an alert for a reservation to open up the day before. We were able to get a 7:30pm reservation. The restaurant was expansive and every table was packed. They had a regular menu and a few specials. I got the special new year cocktail with champagne. My husband got the martini service. Both drinks were good. The martini was like a vesper martini. Not a dirty martini though. They give you the excess so it's like a second drink. For apps, we got the focaccia bread and the calamari. The bread was kind of like a little Italian pizza. The calamari had shrimp and asparagus in it too. The steaks were cooked to perfection. My husband also got a lobster tail. The potatoes were delish. We got the tartufu hazelnut ice cream dessert which was yum. Our waitress was so nice. She was attentive and nice even though it was extremely busy.

Yelp
I would give a 4.5 if I could - had a mediocre at best time at the table, but an amazing time at the bar with Ryan. We originally had a party of 7, ended up being a party of 5 for two last minute cancellations. We love to share plates, start slow and see how we feel. The cocktails were great, but when our server realized we were taking our time and likely sharing entrees, they were less than enthusiastic about serving us. Very dismissive when we asked for additional drinks, didn't give time for other members of the party to order another drink, just walked away like they couldn't be bothered. We would've likely ordered more drinks and more food, but we felt rushed out. Outside of that, the food we ordered was awesome. We ordered the meatball and fettuccine, truffle goat cheese raviolis and rigatoni bolognese. All three plates were amazing, perfectly cooked and savory. I will definitely be back again; but likely request the bar.

Yelp
I ventured to the newly reopened Big Rock Italian Chophouse for a mid-week dinner with a few friends. It's the trendy new spot in Birmingham. For fans of the old Big Rock, the big bar that was to the left of the entrance is now to the right of the hostess stand and not as big. I liked how big the old bar was but one must adapt to changes. The restaurant itself is bright and airy. We lucked out and got big round booth. Before I went, a friend had informed me that she had gone a few days before it took a very long time to get your drinks. She wasn't wrong. It took a long time to get our drinks. As for the food...it was just ok. We started with the whipped ricotta which was good but I think they need to offer something other than sea salt crackers. The prosciutto is already salty so giving your diners sea salt crackers is making a salty dish even more salty. Not good... I would offer up a different type of cracker or another type of bread. We also ordered the stuffed mushrooms which were tasty as well as the beefsteak tomatoes with fresh mozzarella, and the loaded focaccia. For my main course, I ordered the lasagna Bolognese rotolo (i.e. hand-rolled lasagna, robiola cheese, San Marzano tomato sauce). It was just ok. I should have known better and probably should have ordered the rib eye. There are better Italian restaurants in town so Big Rock needs to step up their game. My friend ordered the butternut squash tortellini. She liked her dish but though that the there was too much sauce in her dish. I think the best part of our dinner was the stracciatella cheesecake. I had high hopes as I was a huge fan of Cameron's especially the rib eye. I have to say I'm a tad disappointed. Since the restaurant just opened, I will probably come back and order a steak and try some other items on the menu. Our server was very friendly and the only thing that I think she could have done better was to come back after we got our main course to see if anyone needed another drink or a glass of wine. The jury is still out on the new Big Rock.

Yelp
We had really high hopes for Big Rock Italian Chophouse, but unfortunately our experience didn't match the vibe of the beautiful space. We had a 9:45 reservation, and while we arrived right on time, we were told they were running a few minutes behind. At 10:05 we were finally brought to our table, but it was right by the entrance. When my boyfriend politely asked if there was another table available, the hostess gave him a dirty look and said there were literally no other tables open unless we wanted to wait 10-15 minutes. He said that was fine, and even offered to tip her $20 to help. Her response: "You're going to need a lot more than $20. We sat back down at the entrance to wait for a table in the main dining room. About 10 minutes later the same hostess came up to us nervously and said there was a table available, but another party also wanted it so whoever tipped her first would get it. Obviously, this was the table we had been told would be ready in 10 minutes, so it was a ruse just to get the $20 out of us. At that point, we just wanted to sit and eat, so we gave it to her. Still, it felt completely unprofessional and frankly cheap for a restaurant of this caliber, especially when we already had a reservation. The food was very underwhelming. We ordered the Loaded Focaccia, Stuffed Mushrooms, Butternut Squash Tortellini, Parmesan Potatoes, and the 12oz Grass-Fed NY Strip. The steak was very dry and hard to chew. Everything else was just okay, nothing really stood out. Given that it was a lively Saturday night and not just a late closing order, I expected more, especially at the price point. Service overall was mediocre, with long stretches where our server didn't check in on us. The highlight of the night was the space itself--the renovations are stunning and no detail was missed. I just wish the food and service matched the atmosphere.

Yelp
Really this is a 3.5 star, but apparently Yelp doesn't allow it? I live right down the street from the Big Rock and it takes up street parking EVERY DAY, so I decided to finally try it out with my mom today for a late birthday meal and I personally had a solid time, my mom didn't. I got the carbonara and fritto misto. The fritto misto contrary to reviews here, tasted great and it was plenty warm to me. Nice amount of calamari, shrimp, asparagus, etc. The garlic aioli is solid as well. My carbonara was amazing, the issue is there wasn't much of it for the price. 26 bucks and you barely got any pasta.. you could go to carabbas or places in downtown Birmingham and get better for less. Still, not bad, it's solid, just pricey for what you get. My mom got the Penne Arabbiata and she had a very poor experience. I think she's just not that into the dish, though, because I tasted some after she ate and it was solid. It definitely doesn't have enough shrimp in there, though. So I would recommend asking for extra shrimp, or getting something else if that's what you're looking for. Desert was complimentary for my birthday, so I got tiramisu which was delicious, my mom got the lemon cake, she again didn't care for it too much. My main issues with the meal were 1: no bread provided and 2: portion sizes for prices. Quality was solid, but there's definitely better spots and tbh if you want steak, ocean prime is right down the street as well as Hyde Park. So, overall thoughts? Big Rock was solid, definitely not worth the endless lines of cars waiting to eat there every day. It is decent eats for a nice night out with an updated dining area, nice ambiance and very attentive staff who clearly take their jobs seriously(our server was constantly on us and I think they only do like 3 tables per server). Probably won't be in a rush to go back.

Yelp
Excellent service, excellent food, steaks are excellent. Drinks are excellent, our new favorite restaurant, a bit on the expensive side but you will definitely get what you pay for.

Yelp
Every phase of our experience either met or exceeded most expectations from the valet and coat check to the bar service to appetizers, wine list, entrees and dessert. For a Tuesday night the place was humming and every seat at the bar was occupied. Favorites were the branzino, veal parmigiana and the lamb chops. Favorite salad was the wedge. Best appetizer was the stuffed mushrooms. Caution: arancini is only worthy ordering if you're a fan of truffles. We tried the house wine by famous Napa Celani Family Vineyards and felt that the very affordable Robusto paired well with dinner. Favorite dessert: Stracciatela Cheesecake.. we'll be back for sure! PS - The restrooms are all unisex, clean and fully stocked and are also painted red.

Yelp
Very excited to try this long anticipated high end Italian restaurant. Love that they've invested in this beloved, historic building. The four of us were seated at a booth with five place settings. Had to ask 3x for the fifth place setting to be removed. No Chianti on the wine list. House lasagna was unimpressive. Noodles twisted into rounds with a dollop of ricotta and topped with a bolognese. Quite loud. They'd only been open for a couple of weeks so I'm hoping they work some of the kinks out.

Yelp
Service and ambiance were excellent, and I especially loved the Four Seasons room--it was the perfect setting for a girls' dinner. The drinks were well-made, with the Aviation standing out as a favorite. I really enjoyed the rigatoni bolognese; the flavors were rich and satisfying, though the portion felt a little on the smaller side. My girlfriend and I also shared the Italian salad, which was fresh and delicious. Overall, a great experience and I'd definitely come back.

Yelp
The multimillion dollar renovation to this restaurant is amazing. Lots of attention to detail. Moody vibe. Top-notch service. Food was very good. The swordfish was deemed particularly delicious. Would definitely try to request the main dining room although the noise level is pretty loud. Jess, our server, was very efficient and personable. Several of the restrooms were out of order leading to a long wait to use a restroom. Definitely needs improvement.

Yelp
My first time at Big Rock Italian and it did not disappoint at all. I started with the six piece oysters and they were really good with a clean, fresh presentation. I also had the crab in a jar and that was the star. The warm bread, the sauce, and the crab in the jar came out hot and it was a really impressive dish. For my entrée I had the Bolognese. Big portions and a lot of flavor and I added some chili flakes for a little extra kick. They brought me gelato for my birthday which was a nice surprise and a perfect little sweet treat to end it. My server Melissa took great care of me. She was friendly, attentive, and fast. The only thing they need to fix is the valet. Those guys seemed confused, chaotic, and slightly unorganized and they charge twelve dollars for valet on top of that which is strange. They would honestly be better off just working for tips. Overall though the restaurant itself was very good. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
We ordered carry-out from Big Rock Italian Steakhouse recently, when the restaurant from which we were planning on ordering was closed for a private event. We were ordering in for a special occasion (our anniversary), and were unable to visit the restaurant, as we would have preferred, due to one of us being injured and housebound. Accordingly, this review will not be able to discuss ambiance or internal service. We can, however, praise the courtesy and efficiency of the outside valet. He made it easy to park nearby (helpful due to inclement weather), and generally helped create a smooth pickup process. Now, the food: We ordered a beefsteak tomato salad for sharing. The tomato was excellent (rare on a winter's evening) and the slices of bufalo mozzarella on top were delicious. Our only quibble was with the onions, which did not really add to the dish. So, we removed them. The dressing provided a nice complement to the salad. We next had the tortellini with cream sauce, featuring pine nuts and fresh basil in the sauce. The tortellini was filled with butternut squash - rich and flavorful. A standout side. We ordered 2 mains, which upon reflection was a bit too much of a good thing. The co-diner got the chicken parmesan, which came with a side of pasta. He thought the dish was a good, solid chicken parmigiana - well cooked, and an ample portion. I got the chicken saltimbocca. The dish normally comes with prosciutto, but I asked for that to be removed. It did not affect the quality of the dish, which looked outstanding, and delivered on taste. For dessert, we got the chocolate cake, which came in layers of cake and frosting, accompanied by extra frosting and extra sprinkles (not needed, but a nice touch). It really rounded off the meal. All in all, we were able to celebrate our anniversary with a dinner that was worthy of the occasion.

Yelp
Service was top tier, staff were friendly and accommodating. Food was just ok. Definitely not the same vibe as the old Big Rock Chop House

Yelp
Big Rock is back with a whole new look! We tried to come last week but didn't realize it would be so busy. Reservations are a must! Even with reservations, this is a very busy place and they are limited. We managed to snag a spot at the bar. This is our preferred spot anyway. I will say that the seating at the bar really isn't ideal for eating and there are pillars in front of many of the seats. We managed though. This place is absolutely gorgeous! There is also a members only cigar bar upstairs. Cost of membership is $5000. But with that membership they guarantee a table either upstairs or down. We had great service. Larry and Paris were very attentive. The food was amazing! This place is definitely pricy though. For two dinners and 4 drinks it was about $400. You also have to valet, which is $12 +tip. The food was good but I don't know it was worth that kind of money.

Madalyn C.

Yelp
The service, ambience and good were all very good. The portion sizes were good, unfortunately my lasagna was on the dry size, it could use more sauce, it was tasty. The Italian wedding soup was very good. Everything is alacarte, no bread served. The desserts were excellent, especially the lemon cake and cream brûlée. I would go backThe cocktails were great

Yelp
Food was great & along with service. My girlfriend mistakenly ordered the wrong dish and didn't realize until it was served. Our waiter gave us a free desert for the inconvenience.

Yelp
Beautifully renovated restaurant with delicious food that is overshadowed with its insane prices. Service was impeccable but this was a one and done experience for sure.

Yelp
Dawn was the absolute best server hands down! The service and the ambience were impeccable. We ordered the chicken Parmesan and the handmade crab claw ravioli. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate torte.

Yelp
This restaurant is gorgeous. We were sat in a separate room of the chophouse and it was perfect for a get together. The service is amazing. Our waitress was super attentive. The food was very fresh and I was happy with everything I ordered. The mocktails were great as well.

Yelp
We had dinner on a Saturday night at the newly-renovated restaurant. We loved the new look in the main room. If anyone remembers the old Big Rock, the old wood bar is completely gone and it is replaced by a smaller bar area to the right when you walk in the main entrance. While smaller, it was inviting and had TVs for people to watch the game. Upon arrival, our hostess tried to seat us in the back room close to where the outdoor seating area is. We kindly objected to this location because it was in the back of the restaurant, was not well lit, and was not in the lively, vibrant main dining area. In short, it was boring back there. The initial response was that the main dining room was for reservations and, of course, we had one and I made this reservation many, many weeks in advance. She accommodated us and seated us in the main dining room. It was a bit of a disappointing start to our evening, even though she accommodated us. As for our meal, we enjoyed the pork chop, the Piedmontese filet and shared the asparagus. All were fine and were reminiscent of other steakhouses. We also shared the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer. The shrimp were impressive and were served on crushed ice. The wines were decent, but not memorable. As for service, the valet was quick and friendly as was our waiter. We would come back and we are excited to see what the outdoor patio is like in the summer.

Food was delicious. Steak was cooked to perfect temperature. The waitress was unaware the difference between veal and pork and was not very helpful with menu options. Ambiance was vibrant, very busy on Saturday evening.

Yelp
This reservation was for my husband's birthday, and I was excited to try the new place, because I love Cameron Mitchell restaurants. I'm usually unfortunately underwhelmed by new Birmingham restaurants, as the food always seems mediocre, and it's more of a scene. I was/am so blown away by Big Rock. I will say the restaurant is STUNNING, so if you want a scene, it is absolutely here. The funny thing is that the beauty takes a back seat to the service and food. Our waiter Anthony went above and beyond the entire time. All of his suggestions were spot on, and his timing and service were perfection. Everything we ordered was delicious and cooked to perfection! We can't wait to return! Thanks Anthony and Big Rock!

Yelp
Great to see Big Rock back again. Nicely renovated, although the bar area is tight and somewhat disappointing. Even more disappointing are all the 4 and 5 star reviews that share similar feedback as my review below about mediocre food. If the food is not representative of a fine dining experience, why mislead Yelpers with an inflated rating? Wine selection, by the glass, is lackluster. My wife ordered the penne vodka pasta and would rate it a 2/10, for lack of flavor and was really salty. I ordered the burrata and tomatoes and a Caesar salad with filet. Burrata 7/10. Caesar with filet 4/10. Both were salty, and filet wasn't hot. Would have given it a 5/10 but on a relative value basis I expected more from a $60 steak. Glad we checked it out but won't be a place we return to with other better options in town. Larry, the bar tender was great and personable.

Yelp
Went here for my wife's birthday and everything was great. They have done an amazing job remodeling. Food and service were great. Started with the king crab in a cup which was a 10 out of 10. Couple cocktails which we both enjoyed. We shared a steak which was cooked perfectly and also shared a pasta dish. You can tell the quality and freshness of all the ingredients used in the pasta and sauce. Well for sure go back again

Yelp
The big rock was one of my very favorite restaurants and the go to for family celebrations for many years. I was extremely excited to hear that they reopened. After eating there once, I doubt I will be back. The service was disinterested and slow. My friend had to ask repeatedly for a drink, which he never got. The waitress who brought one of our courses seemed pissed off, but the most egregious part was that someone at our table accidentally broke a wine glass and there was Absolutely no urgency in getting all of the pieces taken off the table. We also had to ask repeatedly for extra napkins, and my one friend just sat there, soaking in wine. My steak was mediocre. I think the taste and texture is as good or better at Texas roadhouse. My wife really liked her lasagna, though, although I had a bite and wasn't as impressed as she was I was glad to see that they hadn't excessively remodeled the place. It still has that "this used to be a train station "charm to it. In all, it wasn't the worst meal I've ever had. But I paid far too much to have to rationalize my acceptance. Let's just say the overall experience was like going to a reunion show of your favorite group and leaving, wishing they had just stayed a memory.

Yelp
Our office scheduled its holiday lunch several weeks in advance for 10 people. Our holiday lunch was set for 1 week beforfe Christmas. When we were called by the restaurant on the day of the event we advised that our party had been reduced to 6. The manager said that "they had opened the restaurant and brought in an extra waiter [not true] and we had to promise a $1,500 tab!" When we made the reservation we were told that "we were lucky" because Big Rock was having "holiday hours" on the day of our lunch. There was never a $1,500 minimum discussed when we reserved. We ended up cancelling our reservation. VERY RUDE AND DESPERATE BEHAVIOR BY BIG ROCK. They must be desperate.

Yelp
We loved our server Michael, we will definitely be asking for him next time. We started with the Alaskan king crab in a jar which was obviously excellent and the burrata which was okay, wouldn't order it again. It came with some weird bread that I would make a peanut butter & jelly sandwich with. I ordered the carbonara which came with no bacon and barely any asparagus I actually added asparagus from our side to my dish. The dessert menu was fantastic. We lucked out and got a booth. Overall very disappointing and I never complain about my meals.

Yelp
Way overpriced for all the hype. Portions of sides not really enough for two. Wait staff seemed inconvenienced . Biggest complaint is waiting for the bill, they don't just put it on the table for you to review , they stand over you with there portable check out , scan your card and watch over you while you decide what tip you want to leave. Very uncomfortable situation. The only plus side was the renovation , old school decor with a modern twist.

Yelp
Food is delicious. Service is on pointe, and very affordable. Great veggie options also!

Yelp
The wait staff was excellent...they were all over it. That's about the best thing of my experience though. I echo someone else's comment on the Durco pork chop... the chef should be ashamed to send it to the table. Really? A pork chop just sitting on the plate with absolutely nothing in the way of appealing garnishment or maybe some sort of sauce for dipping. There was nothing! If you're curious about this place you need to go quickly because with that type of product priced as high as it is, the place won't be around long. Sorry to be so negative, but it just wasn't a meal worth $188 for two.

Yelp
From the minute, we walked in the door we were greeted and seated right away Jes was our server. She was fantastic, very professional ... her suggestions were spot on. We were not rushed we enjoyed the evening very very much. The young man that was her assistant was also very thoughtful and attentive.

Yelp
Pulled up to the old Big Rock with anticipation of a great experience and meal. The valet from the old restaurant was there and is such an awesome guy, good start. Entered the restaurant and the old bar area was gone, replaced with a sterile dining area...sad. The decor was clean and replaced the old windows of the previous restaurant, a definite upgrade but worthy of 13 million dollars? Maybe. But we are here for the food. Our server was excellent!! So friendly and really the biggest plus of the night. We were there for our son's birthday and they treated us great! We had a 2 year old with us and our waiter was again awesome with him and us. The food however was mediocre. Although the selection of entrees was intriguing, the food itself was disappointing. I had the veal parmigiana which was extremely large in size, but lacking in quality. The meat was poor quality with quite a bit of fat that made portions inedible. It was coated in a crust that was crispy but incapable of hiding the poor meat beneath. I was really looking forward to this dish but was left disappointed. The Caesar salad we had before was bland and also not very good. Our 2 year old loved the focaccia bread. Other entrees we had were also mediocre. As it was our son's birthday we ordered several desserts. They didn't come out for like 40 minutes. They eventually arrived with apologies from the restaurant and were comped. A nice gesture and appreciated. This is a new restaurant and perhaps it was a gaffe that won't happen again as they get rolling, but my beef was with the quality of the food. Not that great. With all the hype of the rebirth of this Birmingham institution I was expecting something special. I didn't get that and probably won't return any time soon.

Yelp
Apps were great and the service was on point too! The steak was a 4/5 but overall it was 5 stars!

Yelp
We celebrated a birthday last night with a big party of six. Two of us had Delmonico rib eyes the rest had Italian dishes . We also loaded up on apps and deserts afterwards. Everything was perfectly prepared and fantastic. Service was too notch. Glad this place is back in the game. We will definitely be back. Thanks for the great birthday evening out.

Yelp
This place wants to be something it's not. It wants to be prestigious and amazing but unfortunately misses the mark on everything. Food is fine but not great. The service is poor and slow. They don't serve anything here you can't get better somewhere else in Metro Detroit. They think they are chic and exclusive or something but it's just an ok restaurant that's not worth the experience, unfortunately

Yelp
Some of the people who leave bad reviews are the ones you will never please. Our visit was excellent. The food was amazing! I recommend and would go back in a minute. Only weird thing was our server calling me and my friend of 30 years Mr. & Mrs. - really? I thought men and women could be friends, no?

Yelp
Beautiful venue, horrible service ,mediocre food and high prices. Then when you leave your are hit with a $12 valet tab plus tip! Bring back the OLD Big Rock!

Megan D.

Yelp
Renovation is beautiful (though the original was beautiful too). $12 to valet is outrageous. Service was nice. Food was "Meh". Pasta dishes were mediocre at best, not what I would expect from an "Italian Chophouse". Wagyu Filet for $85 was fine but nothing special for that price. Sadly won't return. Just not the amazing experience I was hoping for.

Yelp
Not high end, just high priced. Atmosphere is dark and decor dated. Table small, not adequate for service and awkward. Service very poor. Slow, waiter moved plate while eating multiple times, did not replace silverware between courses and had to ask. Honestly , too many service issues to list. Food is mediocre. Cocktails were best part of the meal. At checkout they bring you a hand held for you to scan your own card. The price point of this restaurant and what this place actually is does not match. Just do not waste your time and money. There are so many better places in the area to dine

Yelp
We had lamb chops and a veal Parmesan. We also had a small seafood tower and meatballs for an appetizer. The meatballs were good, not great. The seafood tower was amazing but pricey for very little food we thought. The lamb chops were great as was the veal Parmesan. The service was outstanding. The ambiance is nice as well.

Yelp
My Intent for this review is to give you an honest and detailed breakdown and not intending to nitpick because when you spend over $500 on dinner, you should feel like it was worth it. First off, the valet is a little confusing. There is no self-parking and the valets suggest you park across the street if you don't want to valet. The signs show the fee is $12 but at no time did anyone actual ask to collect the fee at drop off nor pick up, which seemed odd. This means I don't know if I tipped the Valet $5 and paid the $12, or tipped them $17. It is VERY loud inside so it would seem that none of the $13M spent on remodeling went to acoustics. We were seated in the far back room and probably the fist things I noticed was that the tables were very close together and small and the chairs were extremely poor quality resembling something you would see in a waiting room. After a 3.5 hour dinner, I can confirm that they were neither comfortable nor good quality. On the tables are small battery powered lamps and the lighting is very low. The service was pretty good although a little slow and we experienced a few blips. I ordered a bourbon and asked for a couple cherries, when the drink arrived about 15 minutes later, there we no cherries and the server admitted he forgot to order them, then brought them promptly. Not really a big deal. Shortly after, we ordered a bottle of wine for the table and that took about another 15 mins to arrive. 3 appetizers were ordered, they were the Loaded FOCACCIA , WHIPPED RICOTTA and TORO CRUDO. All the apps were delicious, but I noticed they arrived with 2 servings of crackers and the whipped riccota was listed as coming with grilled sourdough. As it turns out, I was correct and our server returned a few minutes later with the sourdough, which was delicious and would have been a bummer to miss out on. I would highly recommend the CREAMY ARTICHOKE soup. It was rich and had a nice punch of lemon. Oddly, they brought out my soup spoon when they cleared the first empty appetizer plates, then before my soup arrived, they cleared my spoon so when the soup came I had to ask for a spoon and wait. We ordered 4 entrees, RIGATONI BOLOGNESE, LAMB PAPPARDELLE, the BRANZINO and the 10 OZ FILET MIGNON. Rigatoni was just ok. The portion was rather small with very little sauce. As for the Pappardelle the lamb was tasty, but the pasta was under cooked and too firm , not what I would expect from a high-end Italian restaurant . The Branzino was a little dry but acceptable, and the potatoes well prepared. Unfortunately, the 10oz Filet was disappointing. It was significantly over seasoned and oddly, though seemingly cooked to a perfect just under medium as ordered it was very dry. Being listed as a steakhouse, this was the biggest disappointment. The server and manager both offered to make another or provide me with something else as well as take the cost off the bill and were VERY apologetic and attentive to the problem, but as our dinner was running pretty long and everyone else was well into their meals by the time I was able to bring my issue to their attention , I didn't want to make everyone wait longer so I opted to just keep it and accept the offer to take it off the bill. We went with the SORBETTO AND GELATO and the LEMON CAKE for desert although as we had a dairy free guest, we doubled the Blood Orange Sorbetto and opted out of the Gelato. The deserts were fantastic. When the bill came, I was disappointed to see that the cost of the Filet was still present, so I had to wait while they reconciled that as promised. In all it was a decent visit but here are some key takeaways. They have some service glitches and attention to details to work out, but the staff was attentive and apologetic and clearly interested in making sure we were happy. There are various rooms in the restaurant, and some areas are more aesthetically pleasing but the room we were in was for sure underwhelming. In my opinion, it was under lit, the table was too small to comfortably manage a dinner for 4 and the small wicker bottom chairs are maybe just a little better than tragic. The pastas are not great, and I don't know if it's just a timing thing or the fact that they seem to focus on most if not all of them being gluten free. And, is there a charge for the valet or not, it would be nice if it was clear. The old Big Rock Chophouse was a favorite of ours, but the jury is out on the new spot so far. Yelp was glitching up so I was unable to post all my pics, sorry.

Yelp
We had a truly disappointing experience at Big Rock Italian Chophouse. The entire evening felt like the restaurant was trying far too hard to present itself as a high-end, Michelin-star-style establishment, but unfortunately, both the service and the food fell drastically short. From the start, our waiter made the experience uncomfortable by pressuring us to order every single course up front so he could "curate the perfect meal." While we went along with it, what followed was anything but curated. Dishes came out back-to-back with no pacing, leaving us feeling rushed rather than cared for. To make matters worse: * Servers repeatedly reached over us while we were eating to deliver other dishes. * Entrées were brought to the table without utensils to eat them with. * Plates were moved while we were still eating to make room for other items. * Some servers even attempted to clear plates we weren't finished with. For the prices they charge, you expect a polished, seamless dining experience -- but this was chaotic, uncomfortable, and frustrating from start to finish. The food itself was average at best, and nothing about the evening justified the high-end prices they're asking. Birmingham has so many incredible dining options, but unfortunately, Big Rock misses the mark entirely.

Yelp
The food was a complete disappointment. After every bad course I kept hoping that the next plate would be better, but nope. It was all such low quality and tasted bad. Appetizer: fritto misto. Such low quality fried calamary. They didn't even bother to make their own special sauce which you often find in good restaurants. The side sauces were simple mayo and a red sauce that was no different than a mixture of ketchup and marinara. Disgusting. Definitely not worth the $22. Soups: Tried both the Italian wedding and the Creamy artichoke. The Italian wedding soup was less than mediocre and there were no artichokes to be found or tasted in the creamy artichoke soup. Main course: I tried the braised lamb pappardelle and the chicken parmesan. The braised lamb pappadelle actually tasted bad, sooo bad that I can't even describe it. There were two tiny pieces of lamb hiding among the pasta. I only ate those and left the rest. The chicken in the chicken parmesan tasted like spoiled old chicken that had been in the fridge for over 2 weeks. I couldn't believe it. Dessert: Tried 4 different kinds. The lemon cake was Kroger quality. The raspberry cheese cake was not bad. Probably the only thing that tasted sort of decent. The tiramisu was mediocre. The whole foods tiramisu cake is sooo much better. The Creme Brule was ok. All dessert sizes were super-sized as to make up with quantity for the poor quality. Kids menu was ok, but you can't mess up spaghetti with marinara sauce much. It's what you expect it to be. Their children drink options were cokes and sodas and juices - not freshly squeezed. If you want McDonald food quality with the big price tag in a nice ambiance and a big shot Zip Code, then this place is for you.

Yelp
You must be very specific when making a reservation about what kind of table you want. I placed a reservation before the restaurant was even open for a party of 3 (very small) on a weekday evening to celebrate a family member's birthday. We were seated amongst very noisy, large groups close to a walkway. I couldn't hear my son across the table and lost my voice. Sadly, it put a damper on our evening. I wanted to share this with others so they don't have the same problem. I thought a restaurant of this caliber would be better at understanding guest requests, but I was told by multiple staff members the guest must be specific on the room and table desired.
