On the Grid : Big Spoon Creamery

"Husband-and-wife owned and operated, Big Spoon Creamery is a small-batch artisan ice cream shop that began with big dreams. "We had two goals: make the best ice cream in the world, and use it to impact the people around us." Starting out in 2014 as a humble trike operation, Big Spoon quickly grew into a food truck and, in 2017, graduated into their wildly popular storefront in Avondale where they serve up sammies, sundaes, shakes and splits, all using locally sourced ingredients, seasonal flavors, and love." - Lewis Communications

30 Essential Restaurants to Know in Birmingham, Alabama

"At Big Spoon, ice cream isn’t just ice cream—it’s an art. Flavors like cara cara orange, black forest brownie, and Christmas cookie dough set Big Spoon apart from (and might just ruin your taste for) other creameries. Big Spoon also has solid vegan and non-dairy options such as late summer sangria sorbet and beach bonfire, a s’mores inspired ‘scream made with coconut. During winter, Big Spoon offers hot sipping chocolate. There’s a second location at the Edgewood strip, and the team recently announced a third in Huntsville." - Sarra Sedghi

Sorry Ms. Jackson

Google
I was circling back to the Coconut Lime & Sea Salt flavor, topped with olive oil. Total bummer that it’s no longer available. I was completely hooked. You can expect only two vegan flavors in rotation, that change periodically, with 1 being a sorbet. I prefer cream based ice cream. Today I tried their (V) Berry Crisp & Blueberry Cheesecake. The ice cream is delicious, and possibly worth trying again. The prices however, are a bit extreme.

Google
Very mixed coming out of this. The ice cream was by far the best I’ve ever had but goodness are the prices rough. I understand the pricing being a small local place with small batch ice creams but $11 for a milkshake just for it to be that small was a difficult pill to swallow, quality aside. I tried the breakup cookie milkshake and had it not Been for the price I would have turned around and got another. My partner had the June Coffee milkshake with caramel, it was hands down the best coffee flavor ice cream I’ve had in my whole life. The inside environment was incredible sterile and felt like a hospital, this is all personal preference going forward but I cared in no way for the decoration, or lack thereof. I just didn’t feel like the sterile all white minimalist design suited an ice cream spot, especially one of this caliber. All in all I would and will go back I just hope in the course of finding their legs they can come down on the prices just a bit and maybe liven up the decor. I have high hopes and nothing but love for this place and their vision and I hope I can increase my rating in the future!!

LOVE the variety of ice cream here, so delish! One of my favorites is the Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and the Sammies are so good! I had the Honeysuckle Blackberry this time. RUN, it’s limited - you DO NOT want to miss this!

Google
My fave local ice cream! Love the seasonal variety and the friendly staff. The shop has gotten bigger and there’s more space to hang out and enjoy your treats.

Savannah Pontiff

Google
Such a fun ice cream parlor with unique flavors! All really tasted delicious. The best part is the fresh waffle cones!

Neil Natic

Google
Such a cute ice cream shop with fresh ingredients and lots of flavors (including some vegan if needed). The staff was very kind and accommodating and the outside area is really nice.

Google
I honestly think they screen Birmingham for the nicest people ever and hire them to work here. Also, I'm spoiled for anyone else's ice cream. Seriously, there's no comparison. The seasonal menu changes are always bittersweet (oh no I can't order that anymore?/oh wow! They have that?!), but there's always always something amazing here.

Yelp
I DO NOT come here enough!! So glad to have stopped in really close to closing time. The young lady who helped me was patient and so nice. She was really fast in offering me samples. She was on it!!! I walked away with the most delicious scoop of mint choc chip on vanilla waffle cone! One scoop was plenty. As you know , BSC makes everything in house. The quality does not miss! The atmosphere is modern. There are a few spots to sit to enjoy your sweet treats. I'll be back soon!!!

Yelp
Hey ice cream aficionados, let me take you on a sweet journey through my recent visit to Big Spoon, where every scoop is a delightful experience. I savored the Little Spoon Sunday featuring the June & Jivara flavor, a delicious coffee collaboration with a local coffee house. This sundae was a dream come true, with the malted hot fudge and caramel enhancing the rich coffee notes of the ice cream - simply amazing! The experience at Big Spoon is always a joy. They constantly rotate their flavors, keeping things exciting and ensuring there's something new to try with each visit. It's this commitment to freshness that sets them apart. In conclusion, would I come back? Without a doubt! Big Spoon is hands down one of my favorite spots to indulge in delicious ice cream creations. If you're looking for inventive flavors and a fantastic ice cream experience, Big Spoon is the place to be. Don't miss out on this sweet gem - it's a must-visit for all ice cream lovers!

Yelp
10/10 highly recommend! I googled vegan ice cream near me and this came up. While this Sammie is not vegan, I was able to taste the vegan flavors and was willing to risk it all for this Sammie lol. I'm a sucker for anything lemon so the fact that the strawberry shortcake ice cream was going to be served on mini lemon chiffon cakes was a win/win in my book. The gentleman who helped me whom I believe is the owner was super nice and helpful. I left with the complimentary lactaid tablet that they have available (genius!) and a sorbet to go! If you're in Bham or stopping by, add this one to your list

Yelp
The staff at the ice cream shop were exceptionally friendly and patient, even with our lively toddler in tow. We appreciated their warmth and understanding. The ice cream itself was delightful--fresh, flavorful, and offered a diverse selection of flavors to choose from. Among them, the vegan mint chocolate chip stood out. Its refreshing taste of mint from the garden. Overall, it was a pleasant visit, made even better by the welcoming atmosphere and delicious treats!

Yelp
Atmosphere: Big Spoon Creamery is a welcoming ice cream shop in the Makebhm space. There are a couple of tables inside and a patio area too to enjoy a scoop on a nice day. Service: The person who helped us was very friendly and patient. The counter is actually quite small but we got our ice cream with no issues! Food: We ordered a scoop of the Meyer Lemon Sorbet and White Chocolate Mousse Ice Cream. Both were absolutely delectable! The Lemon Sorbet was bright and had a nice, natural lemony acidity to it. It might've been one of the best lemon sorbets we've tried. It paired perfectly with the White Chocolate Mousse, which had a smooth, white chocolate flavor that didn't taste overly artificial. Overall: We came to Big Spoon on a whim and probably found our favorite ice cream spot in Birmingham! The flavors we tried were amazing and we'd love to come back to try their other ice cream creations!

Yelp
Big Spoon Creamery in Birmingham, Alabama is an amazing ice cream shop that not only has wonderful homemade ice cream, but they make all of their own toppings with the exception of the sprinkles. I went with two scoops of ice cream, one scoop of the tiramisu blueberry and one scoop of their peanut butter honey and I had this topped with their homemade peanut butter cups and their homemade whipped cream. This was a fantastic frozen dessert and words cannot describe how we good this was. The staff was incredibly friendly and professional and only added to my overall experience. There is also indoor and outdoor seating. There is decent parking and the place has a pleasant overall ambiance, bright and appealing. Big Spoon Creamery is an excellent ice cream shop and I would definitely recommend here and I will give it five stars overall.

Yelp
One of my fav stops in B'ham! Came here a little before 8pm, and thank goodness, bc a long line started to form out of nowhere. Friendly service, while getting to try a few samples. Went with the classic ice cream sammy (he got the cookies & cream sammy). Creamy ice cream and can't go wrong with either one of them. The ice cream sandwiches are pre-made and neatly wrapped. Wish you could mix and match the cookies with the ice cream though. Cups of water are also in the back. Would be very dangerous if this was in my town!

Yelp
The service here is really hard to beat. All of the servers are super friendly and helpful. They are always changing their menu and it's super unique, always fresh and delicious. The Avondale location is so cute! They have a nice outdoor seating area that is kid friendly. They just renovated their interior and it looks so nice! Much more seating and more room in general now. Big spoon, you never disappoint and we got to share it with our newest big spoon fan this time!

Yelp
Review for The Big Spoon Ice Cream Shop in Birmingham, Alabama: 5/5 Stars If you find yourself craving a frozen treat in Birmingham, The Big Spoon is the place to be. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with the warm smiles of exceptionally friendly employees who were not only welcoming but also very helpful in navigating the expansive menu of unique flavors. The Big Spoon isn't your ordinary ice cream shop; it's an exploration of taste and texture with an array of flavors that you won't find anywhere else. My advice? Trust the menu and go for one of the shop's original combinations, or have them whip you up their own recommendations. Overall, The Big Spoon in Birmingham is more than just an ice cream shop; it's an experience worth having. The staff, the ambiance, and, most importantly, the ice cream, make this place a must-visit.

Yelp
Amazing ice cream-- especially loved the choco tacos! They are a little pricey but a great treat. Employees are always very kind and knowledgeable.

Yelp
Let's get into it ! Parking- this place had a good size parking lot and it was free but beware if busy you might have to find another place. It started to rain when we arrived so we didn't stay to eat. They had some outside seating but it was too wet. And the inside had very little seating and it's small inside so really I say take it to go ! The lady said they make it all in house and they didn't lie I tasted the cookies and cream and I have never tasted the cookies ground into the ice cream. I ended up getting a waffle cone with the vanilla bean and the strawberry shortcake flavor. Vanilla bean - nothing special but tasted amazing ! The strawberry shortcake stole my show !!!! Omg it was so creamy , not overly sweet , I think it was real strawberries and the crazy part ready it had bites of the shortcake in it. I thought I was dreaming and also was trying to understand how they got it in there and it didn't taste freeze dried or hard !!!! Totally recommend! They offer SAMMIES which they have in house made cookies and can smash the ice cream inside. Made to order so you can mix up cookie and ice cream I believe. They were select cookies but I might get this next time ! They also offer regular and chocolate cones. If I ever come back to Birmingham I'll be back for more scoops !

Yelp
Apparently I'm the only person who hasn't been here because every patron was able to direct me on how and what to order. It was such a blast! They all knew the flavors offered and described the taste and what type of cone worked best. The servers cheerfully affirmed the patrons. The passion told me everything I needed to know about this place. The ice cream was top notch. The diner was clean and quaint and offered outdoor seating which I chose to enjoy a wonderful treat with all my new friends .

Yelp
Was a really hot day. Sitting at home. Started to see if wifey wanted to go out for ice cream and dismissed the idea. Walked into the kitchen and showed up and I said I almost asked if she wanted to go get ice cream snd she got happy. Saw this place when baby girl and I visited the mini donut place next door. Did not know what to expect but the gamble paid off. I got three scoops and I didn't know the scoops would be so big lol so I had some for later. Wife got the banana split and she loved it. She said we could have split it. All three flavors were delicious. I would recommend this hidden place over near Avondale. P S I had Vanilla Bean, Brambleberry Cobbler and Peanut Butter Caramel Peanut flavors.
google avatar

Yelp
It's good. Magic City is the clear winner for me. They use a big spoon to serve the ice cream, and I have a suspicion that is why they are called Big Spoon.

Yelp
YOU AND ME, WERE MINT TO BE! I have been a big fan of Sons Donuts and when I found out that the people who own sons are also over Big Spoon Creamery, I knew I had to come and check it out for myself. After dinner at Saws the other night, we decided to head over to Big Spoon so I could see what all the fuss was about. It is located directly next door to Sons Donuts in Avondale. The menu is simple. There are a select few flavors to choose from. There is also Sundaes and shakes. I am not sure if the ice creams are made in house or not, but they are definatley unique flavors. Some of the ones worth mentioning are the Florida Strawberry and the Sicilian Pistachio. The also have some fan favorites like cookies and cream too. When you first walk inside you are greeted with the wafting scent of freshly made waffle cones. I am not sure if they also use that one thing that Disney does where they use the smell stuff to enhance the scent even more or if that is the actual scent. But you can smell fresh waffle cones all around the shop. I decided on the Sicilian pistachio in a chocolate waffle cone. I could not put the cone down it was so delicious. There were actual pieces of pistachio nuts in the ice cream itself so you know that they ue the fresh ingredients and not just the artificial flavors. That is a big plus in my book! I will be back to try more of the flavors for sure. It is such a unique ice cream shop. A little on the pricier side, but still worth it in my eyes.

Hay P.

Yelp
It ruined ice cream for me. I'm always comparing it to Big Spoon...I miss you :( I will be back!

Sumaira Q.

Yelp
The Big Spoon Creamery food truck is easy to find with its dark blue exterior and usually doesn't have a long line. I tried a couple of flavors but ultimately went with cookies and cream ice cream in a cup. The texture was a little odd, with the ice cream being somewhere between icy and soft that was a little off-putting. The taste was fine but wasn't full of toppings like I prefer which made for a boring experience. I probably would not come back to the food truck or brick-and-mortar locations when there are better options available at a lower cost.

Strike Dub F.

Yelp
The ice cream is delicious, and the customer service was extraordinary. Two thumbs up. Came all the way from Florida for some ice cream
google avatar

Yelp
I have never experience such an amazing banana split. I'm from Dallas,Texas never ever had something so delicious. 100% recommend this place
google avatar

Jesseca H.

Yelp
Best freaking vegan ice cream I've ever had it was exactly how you would expect artisan ice cream to taste without the price tag. The staff was super friendly and helpful, they let you sample a flavor or two if you're not sure and their stickers were so cute! Too bad we were just traveling through do not sleep on this place or pass it up!!
google avatar

Kelsey C.

Yelp
We love this place and have been coming for years. Most recently a birthday ice cream cake was ordered from here and it was fantastic! It was beautiful and refreezes very well.

Yelp
This creamery is by far my greatest discovery during my two hours in Birmingham. I stopped by on a Thursday afternoon and the shop was quite empty, but the workers were lively and energetic. The man was super helpful in describing their ice creams -- I was stuck between the tiramisu and magic city. His response was, "if you don't like to chew your ice cream, you won't like the magic city." I got the tiramisu and it was life changing -- there was a perfect blend of the deep coffee/cocoa flavor and the pieces of ladyfingers added an amazing texture. I think I'll have to return to Alabama just for this ice cream!
google avatar

Jefe D.

Yelp
Stopped by here after having a craving for some ice cream. Had a scoop of the goat cheese and strawberry hibiscus. This was life changing in a great way! Definitely worth stopping by and checking out the menu. You can also do a flight of different flavors!
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to get ice cream in Birmingham! Great flavors to choose from and perfect outdoor seating to enjoy your ice cream. The service is always good also. It's a happy place.
google avatar

Kat C.

Yelp
Yeah, IDK. I think Big Spoon is very hit or miss. I either leave loving it, or I wish I'd saved the money/calories. And it's pretty expensive, for the record. I'm happy to pay for premium, but I'd say the woman's name chain is more reliable if you want to leave certain that you didn't waste your money. Also, the staff is always (superficially) friendly; I've never had a bad experience with the service in that regard. But I do find them not to be accommodating at all. Like they are genuinely not going to put any extra effort in or employ minimal problem solving efforts on your behalf, so don't bother asking. It's good! Check it out. But it's not in my top ten. To be fair, though, I spend half of the year in a dairy farm state where craft ice cream is a lifestyle so maybe for this area, it's the best.

Yelp
If I could, I would give Big Spoon 10 stars and would not be exaggerating in my love of this ice cream shop. The flavors: The best part of Big Spoon is their revolving door of flavors. Good flavors. I think some ice cream shops like to make weird flavors just to shock people, but I think of Big Spoon's ice cream as a culinary experience rather than an experiment. They also have core flavors you can count on if you aren't into the flavors. These include one of the most delightful dark chocolate ice creams I have had, cookies and cream and vanilla bean. All are good. I often get the dark chocolate as one of my flavors. Flavors I have loved (In no particular order): Strawberry Elderberry Sorbet 2020 or maybe 2021 - this had a lemon curd and graham crackers Magic City - Vanilla and chocolate ice cream with chocolate crumbles, cookie dough, a caramel swirl AND chocolate covered potato chips in it Watermelon Margarita Sorbet Blueberry cobbler On top of having creative flavors, they usually are scooping at least one sorbet and another vegan option. This is great for people who need or want dairy-free options. The Berry Crumble is so delicious, and I never would have guessed it was vegan! It was so creamy. I have had berry crumble my last three visits because it is that good. Scoop options: I love that there are so many options for how this ice cream is served. I am not just talking about them having two flavors of waffle cone (chocolate or vanilla) or cup versus cone. They have flights. I am basically a pilot at this point because I have had so many flights. They are perfect to split between 2-3 people so you can try 6 different flavors (smaller scoops than a regular scoop). They also have a half flight with three scoops (these are the smaller scoops). This is perfect, so if you don't love one flavor (though I am sure you will), you can have another. Locations: Two locations. I like the parking at Avondale better but the Homewood store has more comfortable seating in my opinion. What would I get if it was my first time visiting? Everything. I kid. Kind of. Get a flight so really experience the beauty of the creativity and expert flavor composition. Up next for me? Trying the sammies. They sound so good, but I just love splitting a flight.m
google avatar

Virginia H.

Yelp
My first time here and it did not disappoint. Cute outdoor seating area for warmer weather. Not a ton of flavors but enough choices to be reasonable. The ice cream is definitely very creamy and sits heavy after you eat it, if you know what I mean. Really like their 1/2 flight/full flight option that lets me try multiple flavors!
google avatar

Daniel O.

Yelp
After waiting 5-10 minutes it was my turn to order. They took the order of the next people who walked in knowing I was the only one left for what I can only assume was due to the color of my skin.
google avatar

Frank L.

Yelp
The wifey was responsible for finding our dessert spot while on vacation *wipes tear* - what a great job she did!! Big Spoon was packed so I thought it had to be good. It was better. I got the Classic ice cream sandwich and man, it was delicious. Ice cream was creamy, cookie was decadent. I LOVED the salt on the chocolate chip cookie!!! Highly recommend this spot!
google avatar

Greg B.

Yelp
Love the always changing menu of fun and unique flavors at Big Spoon. Goat cheese and strawberry, Girl Scout Samoa, and cinnamon roll were the most recent delectable selections for my wife and me last night. Absolutely delicious.
google avatar

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
i love sweets and i'm always on the hunt for local bakeries and ice cream shops. i've heard a lot about big spoon creamery so i finally decided to stop by and give them a try. i ended up going with the blueberry cobbler ice cream on one of their homemade waffle cones, and omg! i'm literally out of words. the ice cream had real blueberries and chunks of cake/cookies(?) i'm not sure- but it was delicious. they have sooo many flavors to choose from, it was very hard to pick just one. i totally recommend this establishment to anyone looking for some amazing ice cream, especially during these hot summer months.
google avatar

Kim W.

Yelp
My friends and I were in the mood for ice cream after grabbing dinner at Tacos Morro Loco and had been told to get ice cream from this local gem, Big Spoon Creamery. I tried a few samples including their popular Magic City but ultimately chose the almond peach cardamom. I wasn't too hungry so I got the kiddie scoop which apparently came with free sprinkles. The almond peach cardamom was so unique and delicious. The almond extract perfect complemented the strong cardamom flavor which blended perfectly with the peach. I was very impressed and would love to try some more of their other flavors with fruit. My friends got the nonfiction cold brew and classic cookies n cream which they said were excellent. I may have regret not getting a homemade waffle cone but I guess I'll have to come back when I'm back in town.
google avatar

Courtney L.

Yelp
Loved every flavor I've tried! Lots of outside space to chill at the Avondale location if you want to hang with friends or have an ice cream date. A little pricey but I'm not mad about it. Always friendly service!
google avatar

Sara R.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our ice cream !! This place changes their flavors seasonally which I love because there is always something new on the menu. I got the Key Lime pie which was great but toward the end had almost a chemical taste. I did love the chunks of pie crust. Perhaps it was the taste of the lime rind which might be used for flavoring that caused the weird taste towards the end. My husband got the cookies and cream...ummmm so good and could be perfectly paired with the chocolate waffle cone. I also got the Peanut Butter Caramel Peanut which was full of chunky peanuts and ribbons of peanut butter. I think the Cookies and Cream was my favorite!! They also have a cute little patio with benches and tables to sit on.
google avatar

Dixon S.

Yelp
I have been visiting this spot for years now, and have never been disappointed. My partner and I visit weekly for their amazing seasonal ice cream sandwiches. They are the perfect size sammies - leaving that itch for something sweet but not overpowered totally scratched. Excited to see what they have in store for their spring flavors!
google avatar

Neha M.

Yelp
I used a Saturday night out to check out this ice cream place. My roommate and I tried multiple flavors but decided to commit to the Peppermint Stracciatella. Service was excellent and fast even with many customers walking in and out. Definitely recommend trying it out. There were not many COVID-19 restrictions in place, but since their service was fast I don't think it should be a problem.

Damaris R.

Yelp
BEST ICECREAM EVER! Would give more than 5 stars if I could. The fresh made cones are delicious and the icecream flavors are the best. We've been going for years and this summer every week. Staff is always very friendly. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Serena G.

Yelp
Big Spoon is my favorite ice cream spot in the Birmingham area. We go there at least once a month and have since they opened a few years ago. The flavors change seasonally and they use local ingredients. The Coffee Almond Toffee, Georgia Nell's Pecan Pie and Strawberry Goat Cheese Hibiscus flavors are probably my favs, but I've never had a bad flavor! They have two locations, one in Avondale and one in Homewood. We drive about 30 mins to get to either & pass many other places along the way. Truly my happy place.
google avatar

Matthew D.

Yelp
The flavors are fantastic, updated regularly, and full of fresh flavor. We love to visit it on a weekly basis as a treat for the whole family. Scoopers are routinely super nice to the kids!
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
The local choice for ice cream had one main drawback: lack of choice. Roughly ten flavors, including a few basics, some interesting seasonal choices, and a couple of sorbets. No mint chip or anything like it, which is always going to irk me. They do have a lot of options for sandwiches and three flavors of cone. They're expensive cones, but the chocolate one I ordered was delicious and the bottom was sealed off to prevent leakage of melted ice cream. You might hope from the small menu that everything they do is well-executed, and you'd be right. The oatmeal cream pie I tried had quite a lot of oats and certainly tasted like cream pie. I don't usually order straight chocolate, but their dark chocolate flavor was strong and best savored slowly, and just sweet enough. It was like a quality Godiva bar or something was slowly melting in front of me. Even if they didn't quite have what I wanted, what they had was certainly delicious.
google avatar

Teddy P.

Yelp
If I had to keep this short, I'd give you 5 words. Best ice cream in town. But I don't have to keep this short. This ice cream is some of the best I've had and that isn't an understatement. It's perfectly smooth and creamy, manages to mix bold flavors without letting any of them get muddled, it truly is some of the most fantastic ice cream. My fiancé and I stopped in, planning on getting a Banana Split, but when we saw the flavor options, we wound up getting a flight. We had the Goat Cheese Strawberry Hibiscus, Non-Fiction Cold Brew, Lemon Mint Sorbet, Valrhona Dark Chocolate (which has to be one of the single most decadent ice creams I've ever had), Fior Di Latte, and The DeCarlo. While the flavors do rotate, I definitely recommend coming in, regardless of what's on the menu

Yelp
#fatjared say...great ice cream and great people= perfect review!! This is a tiny little spot on the south side of Birmingham! They have a truck they ride around in and can do special events for also! Their flavors are AMAZING!! Obviously for samples I tried as much as possible without being rude! My favorite was the honeysuckle blackberry! Honeysuckles are staples of the south and the flavor came through immensely! The staff was knowledgeable, told me and my gf about the story of the place, and they even let me come back and take a picture of their core values! They do an amazing job here, and with them making everything in house you can taste the love that come through! When you have chocolate and peanut butter together its hard to beat it! Great place to go! HIGHLY recommend!
google avatar

Caroline S.

Yelp
Another great experience at Big Spoon in Avondale for a late night dessert run! The staff was so knowledgeable, kind and welcoming. I ordered the goat cheese caramel apple crisp ice cream sandwich, and it was a 12/10! It was like a handheld version of a big slice of apple pie and ice cream with a slight hint of cheesecake (from the goat cheese). We'll be back soon!
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
Expensive and worth it!!! You get what you it for. Me and my daughter absolutely loved the malts and shakes.
google avatar

Melia F.

Yelp
Big Spoon always has the go-to seasonal flavors. Its better than homemade and you'll want to keep going back. They have unique flavors year round!
google avatar

Cheryl M.

Yelp
Big Spoon Creamery is awesome. I hope they open another location in Hoover! They have so many interesting flavors. This time I got an almond peach one that was fantastic. There were a lot of other flavors that appealed to me too. Their ice cream sammies are awesome. They even have a separate line for sammies and pints so you don't have to wait. The flavors are always changing so come here often! There's some outdoor seating but not a lot. If you absolutely want to eat there and it's a weekend, it might not be a bad idea to bring your own chair!
google avatar

Colette M.

Yelp
The ice cream was good but the to go container for my sundae was bad. It's just a plastic cup on top that ended up falling of mid drive to our hotel leaving whipped cream everywhere. The staff was lovely though. Glad we tried them out.
google avatar

Linh C.

Yelp
I love Big Spoon ice cream. Service is always excellent. Ice cream flavors are varied and delicious. I always have a hard time deciding on what to get. On my most recent visit, I tried the Peppermint and it did not disappoint. I need to try the pecan pie flavor before it is taken off the holiday menu. Sadly, I have no photos of my ice cream. I couldn't wait to eat it!

Yelp
This is an updated review. I finally visited the actual store rather than the food truck. The storefront has a large parking lot which is very convenient since parking can be hard to find in the Avondale area. Even with this said, the day we went there were no available spaces. Also we went on a Saturday night and there was quite a line. There was a "jump the line" option if you were getting a pint or a sammie. We definitely took this option because we didn't want to wait in line. However, don't be scared away by the crowds. If it is good, people will be there. This visit I tried the pumpkin cheesecake sammie. Because it was in the freezer when they pulled it out, I was concerned that it would be too frozen to eat. This was not the case. It was amazing!

This is my favorite ice cream in Birmingham! The tiramisu is my absolute favorite! It is featured in the winter months, usually starting around February, but I haven't tried a flavor yet that wasn't amazing. You can tell the owners put a little extra effort into both the product and the service. A must-try!
