Inside Birrieria y Taqueria Cortez, A Michelin-Recognized Texas Taqueria | Eater Dallas

"Surprisingly singled out for a Michelin recommendation in Texas’s inaugural 2024 ceremony, this restaurant began as Rogelio Cortez Jr.’s all-beef birria food truck and opened a brick-and-mortar in 2021 during the pandemic. The compact, all-beef menu centers on a quesabirria platter served with consumé—the tortillas are crispy and the meat is tender and melt-in-your-mouth, though the exterior could be crisper and the reviewer wished for more marinade heat; diners often praise the consumé even if this visit found it milder and less peppery than expected. The menu otherwise includes birria tacos (available without cheese) and many birria-based items—quesadillas, tortas, burritos, street tacos, chimichangas, tostadas, flautas, plus playful options like birria pizza and sliders—while sides such as Mexican rice and pinto beans are serviceable. The vibe is low-key and homespun (no reservations for most parties), with a bold, high-saturation red-and-orange interior, airbrushed murals, a large Virgin Mary mural near the women's room, rainbow-topped tables, an expansive matching patio, paper-towel napkin holders, sports on TVs, and attentive service from a well-staffed, youthful crew. Prices are excellent for Michelin-recognized food—individual birria tacos and quesabirria run under $4, a hearty plate with a soda can be had for under $20, and a $35 sampler includes an 8-inch birria pizza, flautas, two quesabirria tacos, and consumé." - Courtney E. Dallas’s 2024 Michelin-Starred Restaurants | Eater Dallas

"This spot, focused on cheesy, melty birria tacos, is a first for Michelin — no restaurant solely focused on this dish has ever landed in the guide. It serves them in trios and platters, and even as a Mexican pizza, along with spicy consomme for dipping. This taqueria is an informal spot with murals of Tejano figures on the bright red walls, mix-and-match chairs, and an unfinished look — proving a place doesn’t have to be fancy to be Michelin-worthy." - Courtney E. First time coming to this establishment and was highly satisfied 😃 food was delicious, friendly staff and I loved all the murials of great talent decorating the inside of the restaurant. It was clean and very nice. I had the birria pizza that has been all the rage on Tiktok and I'm so glad I did . It was delicious. A must know, this restaurant is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

It's off the highway a bit but we'll worth the stop. We decided to try the sampler plate to get a small sample of a few things. We also got the sliders, the mix of sweet rolls and the tangy meat hit the spot. All the food was great. I highly recommend dropping by if you get the chance.

I had the birria flautas and a birria taco with rice and consume. The flautas were recommended and were the best flautas I have had. The birria taco was better than the flautas. I would recommend this place for some authentic Mexican cuisine. It was a nice Michelin recommended find close to the Fort Worth Botanical Garden.

I absolutely love birrieria tacos. I always do for tacos. My food was so good I forgot to grab pics of everything. I had keto tacos! Instead of a shell they were wrapped in a cheese shell!!! Cheese! Everything was good. I will be back. I love supporting small businesses!

We came in on a Saturday night, and business was booming! When we parked the security guard flagged us to let us know we were in the right spot, we weren’t sure if it was for pick up only. He was friendly and greeted us as we entered! When we got in the staff greeted us instantly and although the main tables were full offered us the bar or patio. We chose to patio and got a charming table next to the river. The wind was blowing and it kept the patio cool! The server was quick and friendly. Now I get to talk about the food!!! Wow! I got a torta and my wife got 3 tacos. I also got a side of beans and we each had a mango marg with Tajín and chamoy. Our food was hot, and well flavored and the three hot sauces offered were all so good. My favorite is the green sauce. The prices are reasonable too. We felt welcome and had a really nice dinner. I want to thank the restaurant staff for going above and beyond, despite how busy they were! If you’ve passed this place - just know you’re missing a GEM! I’m so glad that we stopped in because it just might become one of our favorite Fort Worth restaurants!

This place is a must try! Their food is next level, make sure to try the Quesataco and the Kings Hawaiian Birria sliders. We prefer to sit on the back patio as it’s not as loud as inside the restaurant and the view of the river is peaceful and calming. Inside can get a little hectic at times. This place is so good it keeps us coming back. They also serve Birria pizza too.

I was the first timer and tried the simpler for 3 which was two adults and one 6-year-old. Definitely enough to feed three and maybe four if it's two kids under the age of six. Definitely a great meal and super cheesy.

We came on a Wednesday night when it was not overly busy, but not slow either. We waited about 10-15 minutes to get our food. Meanwhile, the server brought me my Jaritos bottle. It was not cold- just slightly cool which was disappointing. When the food arrived, it looked great, but it was not hot. It was just warm enough for me to not send it back. It was good at first, but my food got lukewarm to cold. I couldn't send it back anymore since I'd already eaten half the plate. The birreria would have been delicious if it weren't for the food temperature. The rice and beans are not great and a little firm. I was also disappointed that they don't serve chips and salsa. As far as service goes, don't expect servers to come and check on you if you need anything. They're pretty busy. As for the environment, they have those indistrial-like, metal chairs. They're super uncomfortable especially if you are someone with hip arthritis or mobility issues. The tables are low, and I felt like I needed to hunch over to eat my food, and I'm not even tall. I also got their specialty, quesataco with birreria. This one did come out hot, but it was not as flavorful as the birreria from the platillo. It doesn't have enough consome or cheese. I've had better birreria tacos with queso in other places. Overall, I don't think this place is worth visiting again.
