Pretentious without reason.
We never had the opportunity to try the actual food since our first impression of the restaurant was incredibly off-putting. At the time, we were visiting Bellevue and staying at one of the nearby hotels. We had a casual dinner at another restaurant, but it didn't offer dessert. We normally get dessert after dinner, so we were on a search. We thought of nearby restaurants which offered dessert and decided to get the dessert to go. We looked at the dessert menu from Bis on Main and saw a couple of options that looked good. Thinking, Bis on Main is a nicer restaurant, they must offer house-made desserts, prepared by a pastry chef...
We called to check if the restaurant was willing to allow us to order dessert to go, where they had replied they would, but it wouldn't look as pretty, since it would be boxed. We were fine with it; a nice presentation is always welcome, but what matters more is the flavor. The restaurant said the dessert would be ready for us to pick up in around 10 minutes.
We entered the restaurant, where the front of the house staff initially ignored us. When they finally did come to assist us, they made us feel as if we were an inconvenience, and certainly, not the type of people who should patronize their restaurant. Bellevue was one of our favorite "stay-cation" spots, and we were just taking a nice stroll after dinner, so no, we were not dressed formally, since we were not eating at Bis on Main, yet they felt the need to judge us anyway.
We originally decided to try the food the next time we were in Bellevue, but after that first experience with Bis on Main, we were never going to return. We have been to many other restaurants in Bellevue (including fine dining restaurants) since moving to the Eastside. Our impressions of the restaurant: they are using the classification of "fine dining" a bit liberally.
As for the dessert, it tasted as if they bought it from the grocery store. If it was prepared by an actual pastry chef, that chef truly needs to reflect and rethink their career path.
