I've been hearing about this biscuit and coffee place from my family who visited Seattle in the past. I heard it had amazing buttermilk biscuits and wonderful coffee! So I was happy to find out it was opening in Los Angeles in the Echo Park / Silverlake area. I went this morning for their grand opening. Nothing but positive takeaways here.
The location is a quaint place near my childhood home. Parking is challenging, but considering the business center it is located in has been there for ever you can tell the parking lot is small for today's time. But that alone should NOT deter anyone from checking this place out. You will NOT be disappointed. SO - just find a spot on the street and go!!! Once you're inside the establishment, it is a modern and brightly lit invitation to enjoy what is about to land on your table and into your mouth. They have the latest equipment in food service, a high end espresso machine, and I LOVE that they do the pour over coffee too!
Now to the food. The biscuit itself is EPIC. It is the size of my fist, and as a nurse I wear size Large or XL gloves, so you know these things are robust. I don't know how they do it, but the biscuit is fluffy on the inside, DOES NOT break apart when you bite into it, and is nothing but heavenly, buttery goodness. When you spread on the honey butter, that flavor hits you like you're about to fall to the ground due to how good it is. I like the maple butter too, but the honey butter is the money shot.
I tried the OG sandwich, which is a bacon (or sausage as an option), cheddar cheese, and egg with tomato jam in between a buttermilk biscuit. Probably one of the best biscuit sandwiches I've ever had. The buttery goodness pairs with the salty decadence of the contents.
I also tried the biscuit and gravy combo, and I opted for the sausage and mushroom gravy on top of the buttermilk biscuit. Again, buttery heaven with the biscuit, paired with the flavorful and creamy gravy is top notch.
I topped the meal off with a cup of coffee that is very tasty and energizing. I never had Fulcrum Coffee before this morning, and I gotta say they just gained a fan. I take mine with half & half with sugar, but I can still taste the wonderful goodness of the coffee.
The owner Mike Lazer is THE NICEST dude I have ever met. He was hustling this morning to make sure this first day served his customers well. You can tell he genuinely cares for the customers AND his staff. It also helps that he hails from Canada, so I can see where his positive and inviting attitude comes from. Congratulations Mike, and may Biscuit and Bean Los Angeles flourish and grow to serve ALL biscuit fans from all over!
