All the Best Places to Eat Cheese in London, from Raclette to Fondue | Eater London

"Some might characterise this bistrot fondue bar as quaint and cosy; others may call it a hoarder’s paradise. The interior seems to house the entire contents of an attic, with musical instruments, helmets, crockery, tennis rackets, and a motorbike dotted around. In the evenings, candlelight makes for a more intimate and Bohemian ambiance — this is Bethnal Green, after all. The menu will please cheese lovers with raclettes, fondue, cheese and charcuterie, and appease turophobes with antipasti and rich French beef bourguignon and cassoulet. In the summer, kick back with a spritz and a cheese board; in the winter, order the fondue Savoyarde — a variety from the Savoie region of the French alps, favoured by skiers visiting the numerous local resorts. Walluc’s version is kinder to the wallet." - Daria Kyrilova

Mad, fun, lovely, what an experience! In Shoreditch you often pay a lot to have forgettable food and chilly service. Not at Bistro Walluc. The food is plain fare (cold cuts - good, melted cheese - good, potatoes - good), and the drinks menu is fairly basic, but what sets this place apart is the owner and his genuine desire for you to have a great night. Imagine your Italian uncle is looking after you for the weekend and he’s feeding you from his own cupboard (it just happens to be the tastiest cheeses), he’s giving you limoncello shots, and he’s doing close up magic tricks (yes this happened). My friend and I had both had a pretty rubbish week at work and this felt like a bit of soul food. Leave your London cynicism at the door and embrace the Bistro. I’ll be coming back.

Fantastically quirky bistro. We had the fondue and the cheese was delicious, as were the accompanying meats and bread. Something very different and the interior decor and offbeat events that they hold here make it a place worth travelling to. The owner is a nice guy too and a friendly chat.

Had a fantastic birthday celebration in this unusual restaurant recently. The proprietor Luca couldn’t have done more to ensure we enjoyed the evening. We even got to see some card tricks. Understand it has Flamenco nights and comedy nights too. We’ll be going back.

A really special evening at Bistrot Walluc! Amazing food and service. An intimate unassuming gem of a venue. It did take a minute to find and we arrived before they were open after booking online. However a quick text message to the number on google revealed someone was about to open up. We were promptly seated and shown the set menu which we ordered. I think theres another review we read about them not serving food but they definitely do and it is exactly the menu on my review and online. We chose the red wine, a very reasonably priced but quality italian wine and were served charcuterie (meats, gerkins and cheese) with bread and a soft cheese and honey dip. This was followed by fondue, bread and potatoes and finished with a shot of ameretto. Cannot wait to return again and enjoy the amazing food wine and atmosphere. I feel lucky to have found such a hidden gem!

Close your eyes… you walk in and are greeted by 6 tables surrounded by an aura of whimsy the owner, friendly and eccentric takes you to the table and explains the menu: Fondu and meat. What’s not to love? The service is impeccable, the owner going above and beyond, going out of his way to give each table a magical card performance. The food is amazing, the fondue a mixture of cheeses that dance along the tongue tantalising tastebuds in a way I didn’t think was possible. BOTTOM LINE: EAT HERE NOW!!!

Probably went to the wrong place. Booked a table through Google Maps and The Fork yesterday at 21:30 to find it closed. Neighborhood’s kind of precarious and chancy. Checked pics in Maps to make sure we were at the right location. It was closed. Ended up eating pizza for takeaway and drinks from a Tesco. Maps should remove this place and change the “open” starting 18:00 because it definitely is closed.

Hands on my favourite place in East London! Not only the food is banging, is paradise for cheese lovers 🧀 but you also step into a different world. Luca the owner is one of a kind, you will feel at home here, warm welcome, jokes and cards tricks performed by him! Helen is also very sweet and always getting back to you super quick, she is a star! The fondue 🫕 is magic, it feels like a warm, melted cuddle 🤗 The decor is crazy, it might looks like a bunch of random stuff but is not, they are all connected and telling a story. They also do comedies, gig and tarot readings night, do not miss a visit to Walluc- you won’t regret it! ❤️ also they are pet friendly 🐶

Loved this place! So authentic. And the owner is really friendly and told us some stories about the neighborhood and how it’s changed through the years. Would definitely recommend

Yelp
This place has a fantastic atmosphere, it Feels different and in the midst of all the chaos, it all comes together after 1 min of sitting down. We had the fondue for two, it was great but just a bit too strong on the wine. Considering we had wine with our meal, it was a bit of a sensory overload. Total price was around 16£ each with wine included. Will be back again and will recommend to anyone to give it a try. Specially if you are looking for a more private relaxed setting. Will update the review next time I get fondue again.

Yelp
Are you serious? Went here in the middle of the winter for a friend's birthday. So for that reason alone we sucked it up and had a good time. They didn't have heat in this place so it was COLD, the waitress could barely speak English (which is not such a big deal but she didn't even know the menu) and guess what? If it's not even cold outside and people are eating fondue and raclette, you need more than some tea lights to heat the food to edible standards. Epic fail, epic dislike. Felt like this was a squat restaurant, there's no way the restaurant actually operates like this all the time and remains.

Yelp
Walluc has a job on its hands with all of the restaurants and cafes it has to compete against on this little street. It is small, doesn't take cards (make sure you bring cash), and can sometimes be a little fickle with its opening times. To say their set up is casual, would be an understatement. That said, they serve gorgeous wine and even better fondue. Boundary rooftop recently entered the world of raclette, so cheese is obviously a thing in the area. Walluc does a divine job of keeping it real with fondue so authentic, you could just as well be on a Parisian street. The lighting is very very low, so it is not a great spot for taking good pics without the garish flash, but trust me, it is worth the visit for cheese and wine lovers!

Yelp
This place just didn't do it for me. I'd like to give it 2 stars, but considering I was the lone diner out of our group of six who wasn't absolutely raving about our meal, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume I'm an anomaly. We'll settle on a 2.5 I just don't think it was worth what we paid. £12 per person for a pot of fondue accompanied by a bread basket, a handful of roasted new potatoes, a small side salad and eight slices of pastrami (like the super-rigid kind that looks like they came right out of a pack from Tesco's). The food allotment was not person, it was meant to be shared between three people. The fondue had a bitter, alcohol-y aftertaste and the texture was lumpy not creamy. Each fondue choice (three total, with varying kinds of cheese offered) required a minimum of two diners, so we ordered three for our table of six. They only brought out two pots, saying there wasn't enough room to place three pots but it would be the same amount of cheesy goodness. A legit reason, but I just think they gave us four people's worth of fondue (not six). This suspicion is compounded by the fact that we were all literally scraping the pots and even the wooden spoon because we were still hungry. The place was freezing (we kept our coats and scarves on the whole meal), they ran out of house wine and they didn't (or couldn't that night) take cards. I was surprised they only used tea lights to heat under the fondue pot - fine if it was a normal temperature in the restaurant, but it was not. Alright now for some positive, the décor was pretty cute (vintage and eclectic), the fondue pots mismatched and straight out of the early 70s. Wine was reasonably priced and staff was well meaning. The experience of fondue is a fun one in a big group. .... But that's not enough; bottom line is the food portions and quality simply don't do it for me.

Yelp
A rustic little French/Swiss bistro with great fondue, amazing beef borgonion??(slow cooked beef stew) and beef carpaccio salad = AH-mazing. On the night we went they had no raclette, which was odd given they specialise in the fresh cheesy stuff. Anyways not to worry we were more than satisfied with the fondues. Also, there's no byo but the prices were pretty reasonable - a very fun and cosy night out. There's an amazing painted backroom which was pretty cute too....

Yelp
In the menu you have a choice of italian and french foods, a good selection of cheeses and cooked meats, many pastas. The place is very small, the staff doesnt care much about you, and the dishes' presentation is poor. It's a shame, because situated in such a good location, not far from the Brick Lane scene, and might have the potential to be a minimalist meeting place for artists and radical-chic. Much to improve.
