This place just didn't do it for me. I'd like to give it 2 stars, but considering I was the lone diner out of our group of six who wasn't absolutely raving about our meal, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume I'm an anomaly. We'll settle on a 2.5
I just don't think it was worth what we paid. £12 per person for a pot of fondue accompanied by a bread basket, a handful of roasted new potatoes, a small side salad and eight slices of pastrami (like the super-rigid kind that looks like they came right out of a pack from Tesco's). The food allotment was not person, it was meant to be shared between three people. The fondue had a bitter, alcohol-y aftertaste and the texture was lumpy not creamy.
Each fondue choice (three total, with varying kinds of cheese offered) required a minimum of two diners, so we ordered three for our table of six. They only brought out two pots, saying there wasn't enough room to place three pots but it would be the same amount of cheesy goodness. A legit reason, but I just think they gave us four people's worth of fondue (not six). This suspicion is compounded by the fact that we were all literally scraping the pots and even the wooden spoon because we were still hungry.
The place was freezing (we kept our coats and scarves on the whole meal), they ran out of house wine and they didn't (or couldn't that night) take cards. I was surprised they only used tea lights to heat under the fondue pot - fine if it was a normal temperature in the restaurant, but it was not.
Alright now for some positive, the décor was pretty cute (vintage and eclectic), the fondue pots mismatched and straight out of the early 70s. Wine was reasonably priced and staff was well meaning. The experience of fondue is a fun one in a big group.
.... But that's not enough; bottom line is the food portions and quality simply don't do it for me.
