Dining shouldn’t just be a feast of flavors and textures, it should also be a feast for the eyes and soul, and Bistrot64 delivers this feast in abundance. The tasting menu is an experience you will remember. When you entrust the chef to serve you a surprise, you should expect to enjoy the experience but perhaps not every single bite. Don’t get me wrong, the food is prepared perfectly with presentation that is elegant and creative, but you will not be leaving thinking that that is the best xyz you’ve ever eaten. First up, the 4 item amuse-bouche was probably the best course. Beautiful, flavorful and different in every bite. The soup course - the lentil was Roman al-dente with an earthiness of hazelnut. The first course aubergine was light and tangy but needed salt. The pasta was rich and decadent with hints of the sea and the land without either over powering each other. But then the fish was a disappointment - nicely seared turbot just not nice enough to carry itself as a minimalist dish, and its sauce was too tart. The last course, the dessert was simply divine with a light mouse tasting much like a pavlova with a chilled fruit and cheese filling. Overall a wonderful dining experience in a beautiful setting at $75, a fraction of what it would cost in NYC. Service was attentive. Highly recommend.

We had a fantastic first experience in Rome! The food was delicious, and our waiter Andrea provided excellent service. He was very friendly and recommended a wonderful local wine. Grazie 🇮🇹

We chose this restaurant based on the segment in Stanley Tucci’s series, unaware that the chef has changed. But we were not disappointed. Every dish was inventive, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The antipasti were delightful. The lentils with the hazelnut cream surprise was enlightened. The foie gras course a mini feast. The staff was friendly and gracious, but understaffed as the evening went on and a large group took everyone’s attention.

Again, like many others we went because of Tucci’s recommendation and we were disappointed. The presentation of the food was beautiful but it lacked taste or any essence. We had tomatoes that were ok. Lentils that were cooked in a sauce that tasted almost like liquorice sauce , udon/pasta drowned in butter and a square piece of baccalà cod fish that was a one inch square. We watched the reactions and faces of diners and they had the same reactions to us but all too polite to say anything. We have eaten all over the world in other Michelin star restaurants and this was really poor. It was taking cheap products and trying to make something of it but trying too hard. We are in Italy - you should really let the produce speak for themselves. I am never a fussy eater but my husband watched me struggle through 5 courses including dessert. The waiters and service was phenomenal- efficient, kind and knowledgeable. That might have just saved the evening. I know reviews like this affect earnings of restaurants but I hope you will take this as a constructive criticism to review your menu and to give real value to customers who come on the back of Tucci’s recommendations.

We struggled with the thought of getting a 5 course with wine but worth it. Food,service and atmosphere was the best. If you appreciate high quality go!

It was a disappointment - both for Michelin recommended and as a Japanese restaurant (and I like Japanese). Most dishes were simply not tasty - some even uneatable! We took the 7-courses meal. This is very far from a Michelin starred (which it is not as far as I understand). Waiter got a cold and continued to sneeze and cough - not a pleasing experience. Did not clean the table between courses until the end of the meal. Dishes looked nice but again - not tasty!

You must go to this restaurant. I love a tasting menu and this one is up there as one of the best ever. We had "Evolution" which is their "best of" and every dish was really delicious. When in Rome, escape the tourist spots and go to neighborhood restaurants like this. They are always my favourite place to eat. The spaghetti was rich and yummy and the fish super fresh. You won't regret it. This experience in London would be double the price. Incredible value for money.

Bistrot64 is a rather innovative Italian neobistrot with clear Japanese influences. It plays around with techniques and ingredients to create dishes, many based on Italian classics, that sometimes shine, sometimes may seem too clean, yet are made in such a pure and clean style that, as a food lover, I cannot help but admire. In a sense you may take it more as an art museum where you enjoy the craft as much as the “tasty factor”. Our tasting menu certainly played around with purity and vegetable replacement of pasta and minimalism shined through everything. There was the very simple but excellent raw shrimp with herb and olive oil, there was pasta made of celeriac root, there was the potato carbonara with undercooked potato producing the al dente effect, the risotto with radicchio and powerful cheese, the almost classic Venetian yeel, the steak and explosion of citrus and chocolate presented in small cubes of joy. I cannot say that every dish was equally good or curious but the idea of purity and precision permeated every presentation. We will certainly be back!

I came here with a group of four people and we ordered the prix-fixe menu. There were so many courses that I lost count. Each course had a unique flavor profile. The menu consisted mostly of vegetables and seafood, and I wished for more meat. There was a duck tartar, which I would not consider a traditional meat dish, and it was too salty. We enjoyed most of the courses though. Presentation was beautiful for every plate. Our favorites were the lobster ravioli and the cacio e pepe spaghetti. The cacio e pepe was unanimously our favorite dish of the entire Roma stay. 1/2 off: The staff was extremely strict with the progression of the menu. One person in our group was 40 minutes late (our fault, not theirs). They refused to let the three of us begin the prix-fixe menu and the fourth person to catch up later. The three of us were hungry, so we offered to order a few items a la carte while waiting, but they would not allow us to do that either! They said it would ruin the progression of the prix-fixe menu later. So we ended up ordering drinks on an empty stomach for 40 minutes... 1/2 off: I asked for a non-alcoholic drink and was given an apple cider-like drink. It was fermented apple cider, so it did have some alcohol. I immediately felt the effects of alcohol on an empty stomach. I alerted the staff, and they again reassured me there was no alcohol. *face palm* Despite the uptight and ignorant service, on food alone, it was a pretty good meal. I would say about 75% of the dishes had a wow factor. The remaining were good, but did not blow me away. Maybe if I wasn't tortured with alcohol on an empty stomach, I would have had an 100% wow experience?

As you should guess, I am an American food lover and have traveled all over the World to enjoy great food. I'll cut the the chase here... I like my pasta Al Dante and they nailed that one. Somebody else may have a different opinion regarding the consistency of the pasta. The wine glass poors we're just right for the owner, and not quite enough as 99% of the other local restaurants graciously provides. The arabiata sauce was outstanding with a heat level of 8.5. In the end, they asked me to provide a manual tip. Sad, pissed me off enough to provide a two star. They rarely paid attention to our table (American's) and I felt obligated to add a tip cuz that's what I do, be kind

My God. Everything was amazing. Everything. It's very pricy but ought be the best tasting menu we had in Italy all together. Get the....everything...but the cacio pepe was amazing.

The ambiance, service, and presentation were top notch. However, for the price I was expecting the food to blow me away, now don't get me wrong the food was good but I don't think the quality matched the price.

This was on the Stanley Tucci episode on Rome so we decided to track out here to try it out. It's about 30 min cab ride from central Rome so it's a hike. After watching the episode and now tasted the food, I can see why Romans might not be excited to come here, as the chef said on the show. There's no doubt each dish is a challenge the chef gave himself to employ classical French and Japanese techniques to Italian ingredients. He outdone himself every time with creative combination of ingredients and flavour but I'm afraid it might just be too much for most people. First when we arrived we didn't know that it's tasting menus only. I missed that when making the reservations. My bad. Price is normal for a Michelin level restaurant. The decor is minimal, compared so usual Italian restaurants where the decor usually would be walls of wines or bright colours. You don't really feel like you are in Rome if it wasn't for the Italian language you here spoken amongst staff. The pictures tells a lot. Perhaps it being our last meal in Rome before leaving, this wasn't the best idea. After days of eating pasta, pizzas, cured meats and cheeses this feels like it requires a more pure pallet to give it a fair shot. I would have given a 3 starts if I'm being subjective and let my emotion speaks but the level of sophistication warrant an extra star.

Absolutely beautiful and delicious dinner in a quiet, romantic atmosphere. Highly recommend the tasting and the staff were helpful and kind.

It's a shame the only reviews one can find online are critical. My wife and enjoyed an incredible 5-course meal here the second to last night of our honeymoon. Each dish served was intentional and delicious. Neither of us disliked a single dish - and my wife especially is a picky eater! The wait staff was incredibly gracious and friendly - we recommend this place!

This was an amazing dining experience. I'd highly recommend it for anyone visiting Rome. For an extremely reasonable price, we did the 5 course tasting menu and wine pairing. What you receive is above and beyond 5 courses. Everything was thoughtful, delicious, and paired with excellent service. We left full and happy!

One of my favorites while visiting Roma. You can't go wrong with anything you order. Only thing I can suggest make American portions lol.

Hands down, the most enjoyable meal we've had in rome (and we tried two other Michelin restaurants on our current trip). First off, this place is located rather far from the city center, which ensures a less crowded and more relaxed vibe. It's elegant and well organized. We arrived a bit earlier than the time we reserved but had no problem getting our table. We ordered the pre-set 50€ menu, but our waiter did ask if there are any ingredients that we don't eat and indeed took that to heart - my SO doesn't eat eggplants so he got an artichoke instead. Every one of the dishes included in our menu had some surprise element, and all were incredibly delicious. This is NOT one of those fancy restaurants that sacrifice flavor for originality - Bistrot 64 demonstrates BOTH. My favorites would have to be the squid-ink pasta and the half-cooked potato strips in butter and beetroot. If you told me beforehand that a pasta dish with distinct ocean flavors would be the best I had in Rome I wouldn't have believed it, but so it is! The service was also excellent, perhaps even a little too attentive (I can top off my own water glass, but thanks!). I wholeheartedly recommend this place, it IS worth the tram ride from the city center, as it certainly produced a pleasantly memorable experience for us.

We came here with a reservation. It was closed. (Even though yelp + Google say it's open). Really closed - like garbage in front and garage doors closed.

Third and last of the Michelin star restaurants tested during our trip to Rome. Probably the most successful even if we always find something to say! I'm a little perfectionist on the edges! First of all, we are at the limits of the columns of Hercules, in the north of Rome, well above Villa Borghese. As for the setting, we are more in the concept of bistronomy since the walls are covered with Parisian metro style tiles, marble tables without tablecloths with wooden settes, service casual. Far from the baroque of the Trevi Fountain. Sound atmosphere a little loud. It's pretty but without particular character. This is a decor that can be found in hundreds of restaurants around the world. Two tasting menus chosen by the chef, Kotaro Noda: "Just Us!" 5 services at 50 euros or "Experience" at more than 10 services for 90 euros. Or menu "Simply yours", 5 dishes à la carte at 50 euros. Accompaniment of wines at 35 and 45 euros. We quickly pass the amuse-bouche, slice of dry bread decorated with plots of vegetable mousse and elegantly placed on a tree trunk. Probably a conceptual expression of the marriage of the artisanal and meticulous work of the man confronted with the savage brutality of Nature. Or the chef only found it nice. Nice and good bread ball-shaped. First service. And recognize that it attacks very hard: a scoop of oyster ice placed on a huge ice cube containing some herbs. It's absolutely excellent! The flavor of the oyster is concentrated, powerful. For a start, it promises! Only downside, the two zests of lemon yuzu candied on the ball. For me, they are too much, although I understand the message for the tradition of citrus with the mollusc. Tradition that I do not respect. I've always been convinced that the oyster was self-sufficient. I do not tell you when I see vinegar or sausage coming at Arcachon! We continue in blow one's mind with two raw langoustines, served in a wine glass, decorated with a quality soy sauce and chopped mint and other condiments. We turn like a wine and we drink! Simple, funny, effective. Easy to remake at home. But avoid the basic Kikkoman! Then the Carbonara without pasta! But there remains the bacon! We are saved. A little less exciting. But the chef must have an obsession with pasta without pasta since the following are actually filaments of potatoes! On a bed of mashed butter and infinitesimally scented anchovies. And maybe the chef should indeed avoid working this product because his cold Tagliolino on tomato bed and dominated by a spoon of caviar are the weak dish of the whole series. The caviar is drowned in the mass and the excellent tomatoes do not save the dish. (FYI, Italy is the second largest producer of farmed caviar in the world, after China.) Let's hope that the sequel will not be a fall from Charybdis to Scylla. He catches up brilliantly with Sardinian fregola with basil pesto, covered with a cuttlefish carpaccio, wrapped in an improbable film of pink jelly and totally transparent. Awesome, delicate. Respect! The next dish is even better. A fillet of cod all dressed in black. A stir-fried flour lace, a delicate mushroom mousse, the fish covered with a thin layer of squid ink. But it is not simple sauce, it is gently gelled to surround it. A work of Sisyphus! (Well yes, I'm in Rome, I must use my mythology knowledges!) We will conclude the salted part with a pigeon perfectly cooked, accompanied by a half onion almost candied and slices of orange vinegar. These are IMPERATIVELY to taste with a piece of pigeon. Sweetness and vinegar harmonize perfectly in the mouth. Otherwise, it's horror! What are we left? The desserts. Apart from the small kindness to pass the time, both desserts have left me a little hungry. The first coffee because it is a drink I hate. So I will not judge. The second is frightfully dry, a kind of crumble with a dry biscuit too. A little pity after this fantasy of tastes. The selection of the wines is very good, even I thought that it might be more interesting to test a warm tasty sake with oyster ice

I would say it's more low key compared to other Michelin star restaurants in Rome but the dishes lived up to expectations. I got the carbonara and it was one of the best I've tried. The chef is Japanese so I think it makes the menu more interesting. Small location so it's recommended to take a reservation before.

Probably the first time I can't rate a Michelin restaurant 4 or 5 stars. Most disappointing experience so far from all the European and North American Michelin rated restaurants we visited. Would not particularly recommend in Rome given that there are so many more spectacular choices at this price tag that carry equivalent prestige but richer food and ambiance experience. First the food: the finger foods as an opening were creative and delicious but the tuna carpaccio and lamb were very lackluster in terms of taste. Tuna was not sushi grade, and over seared on most of the carpaccio. Lamb was surprisingly lacking flavor. Presentation was very nice. No substitute for bread for gluten free patrons (no crackers or rice chips - nothing - also unusual for a Michelin restaurant. So food: 2 out of 5, especially given prices for were average for a spectacular Michelin one star restaurant. Ambience: no music - just people talking. A little odd. Especially when we were one of the first tables there. Not a place I'd want to experience again for ambiance (nor food) Service: friendly, nice, professional, nothing to rave nor complain about. Prices: Michelin typical prices but for unexceptional food, overpriced. Overall Experience and Thoughts: The establishment was very particular about their menu - with some of our allergy restrictions we asked for a simple side of veggies - any type - whatever the chef had (broccoli, carrots, zucchini, eggplant, onions, cabbage, etc) but they absolutely would provide anything beyond the 3 selections for each course and said the chef "didn't have any extra ingredients to accommodate anything beyond what's on the menu and we cannot work off the cuff with ingredients since we're Michelin rated" and I thought it odd that a talented chef with a commercial kitchen full of food and a lifetime of experience couldn't whip up something simple. What kind of Michelin chef are you if you cannot work off the cuff with simple ingredients that you purchase for your own kitchen? And the restaurant was somewhat empty when we arrived. Every single Michelin restaurant chef from Paris to Venice to Barcelona to New York to Zurich has ALWAYS whipped up something for us in EVERY Michelin Restaurant no matter when we made the reservation, because often we are very limited in not just what we can eat with our many allergies (gluten free, diary free, no shellfish, allergies to some nuts). Also chefs at Michelin restaurants want to display their TALENT and SKILLZ to make patrons happy when they are spending $300 Euros /Dollars per person. But this was the first time they said no.

Amazing!! Went to see Maxxi, sculptural art building by Zaha Hadid. I noted Bistro 64 reviewed by Stanley Tucci was a block away. We had no reservation, but they were able to seat us for lunch. We had the 5 course menu with a recommended white then red wine. The surprise menu was wonderful!!! An amuse-bouche and a palate cleansing hibiscus sorbet complimented the courses. The favors and textures were at times surprising and delightful!! Our lunch was the highlight of the day!! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience!!!

This restaurant caught me off guard in many ways. First, it was great to see an Asian executive chef, a Michelin Star chef, in Italy. Second, it was a bit hot, so I wish they work on their A/C. Third, the dishes were very inventive. I opted for the chef's choice for the night where the chef basically chooses what the customer is going to eat. I believe we had about 15 courses? It was a lot, and we had many small bites in between courses. Hence, I think it was about 15. First dish or bread(?) I ate was literally a piece bread with two puree on top. One was savory while the other was cool and sweet. It was placed on a wood block. This was a tease to get you started. Then, the 4 pieces come out. It's basically on a long plate, and you start from left to right or right to left. I started with left to right. The variation included vegetable puree, pickled cauliflower, glazed sweet veggie. The plate displayed, cool refreshing, simple and savory, palate cleansing, and to finish off with savory again. So, you kind of get the idea what's included in this "chef's choice." Let me tell you what I didn't like: (1) Oyster ice cream with cauliflower juice... on top of an ice block. It was so fishy (taste of the sea) that I could not finish it. The smell and the flavor of the "sea" was to just too much for my tongue. I felt like I was eating raw mackerel times 500. I am sure some people might like it, but it was not my favorite. (2) Pigeons... rare to raw pigeons... I finished it, but it was very gamy. Also, the flavor was very powerful where I was heaping down on the picked carrots and such to wash or blend the gamy flavor. Plus it was chewy... like I wanted to finish the dish quickly as possible, but the meat wouldn't break down fast enough in my mouth... it was a struggle. Everything else, I loved it! The black sea bass was amazing. He used the traditional rice crisp to act as a decorative garnish on top of the black fish. It was pretty and savory. The seasoning was perfect. The fish was fresh and juicy. Another bite size dish came in a wine glass. It was basically seafood in Japanese fish sauce. The sauce reminded me of the sauce used for agedashi tofu. His potato pasta was heavy but packed with butter flavor, which I enjoyed. Basically, he thinly cut the potatoes into a noodle format, and baked it. Then, he placed the garlic butter on top of it. His twist on soba and pasta mixed together with caviar was amazing. Omg, this was my favorite. It was cool and refreshing but had the savory content of a pasta. He blended Italian and Japanese cuisine together very well with this dish. Another amazing dish he brought out was the beef short ribs on top of a frozen layer of broccoli. Underneath the frozen layer, he had his risotto. This dish was amazing as well. I watched the frozen puree melt on top of the risotto and you mesh the beef into the overall dish. This had the absolute amazing, rich flavor. Dessert: You get a lot... the one, which stood out the most for me was the garlic ice cream with chocolate/coffee drizzle, halo bread, with coffee/chocolate pieces. Absolute amazing. Something I could not imagine. Think about it. Garlic and chocolate/coffee together? It worked beautifully and it blew my mind. He had many other desserts, but the most memorable dessert was the garlic ice cream. Overall, you must try this Michelin Star restaurant when you're in Italy. This Chef will take you on a culinary journey with every single dish.

I loved everything about this restaurant. The service was phenomenal. All of the complex flavors shone through in each dish and the presentation was amazing. If you visit Rome, you must try this wonderful restaurant and a much better value for the $$ than the tourist eateries. Bravo!

Bistrot 64 is the best restaurant I have ever been to. In comparison to other Michelin star restaurants I can undoubtedly say this is my favorite. We got the chef's tasting menu and the flavors that are combined are one of a kind that you will not taste anywhere else. The service is so good it rivals having a personal Butler. The ambiance is jazzy and high class. The service/food/ambiance are all worth the money.

This was an excellent experience. We took the Chef's menu, consisting of 5 dishes, all special, deliciouse, fine ingredients and very well presented. Nice and quite ambiente. Good service, Good wines though a bit limited selection. Definitively worth to go and to return.

I enjoyed one of the very best meals of my life at this place. We ordered the chef's tasting menu, which included 7 courses. Each course was its own culinary adventure, highlighting the artistic composition of each plate and nuanced flavors that developed with each bite. it was beautiful from begining to end and I loved it so much. This restaurant is recommended without hesitation.
