Black Phin Coffee Bar - Review - Winter Park - Orlando - The Infatuation

"Black Phin is perfect for a relaxing coffee in Winter Park. The warehouse specializes in Vietnamese phin drip coffee, which you can spruce up with a cold foam like ube, egg, or pandan. There’s a small display case of baked goods you can snack on. But Black Phin is mostly a spot to slowly sip strong coffee and get some work done or catch up with a friend." - Ryan Pfeffer

Very cute café, nice decors. I ordered a pandan cold foam Vietnamese coffee and a ube brownie. The coffee is pretty strong and I cannot really taste the pandan, the foam itself is pretty good tho. Ube brownie is chewie and not too sweet, comes with a very sweet coconut sauce. Staffs are super friendly ☺️

Google
Delicious coffee and matcha drinks! I decided to shake ip my normal matcha latte and got a matcha with coconut water and sea salt cold foam. It was so so good! I included pictures on where to find the shop. There’s free parking next to the building. It’s in the right side/corner of the Seafood Inc! There’s also a CrossFit gym attached. They sell plants inside too, overall a great experience. I’m sure their sign is on the way, so look for the stairs/ramp to get in! :) Thank you!

The barista was very helpful and informative about the whole menu. She truly went above and beyond !! The place was such an aesthetically pleasing jungle of plants and vibes. I truly enjoyed my start of the day here!! I would definitely come back next time on vacation! Sakura cold foam with Cà Phê Sữa Đá : 8.7/10 / adds such a sweet complexity to the drink ✨ Sea Salt Foam with Cà Phê Sữa Đá: 9.1 / such a great balance between the coffee and the foam. Most definitely my favorite 💗 Matcha White Chocolate Cookie: 10/10 SO PERFECT 🤩 Earl Gray Cookie: 7/10 really good but only if you’re in love with earl gray. 💫

Google
Amazing atmosphere, friendly staff, and lastly, amazing strong Vietnamese coffee! I got an egg sando, which reminded me greatly of the ones in Japan. The coffee I ordered was black unsweetened ice coffee with Pandan foam added. I deeply enjoyed my drink and the plant ambiance. I hope to try more flavors/coffees & see a lot of success for this business! :)

Google
A serene and aesthetically pleasing spot to enjoy a cold coffee. While the menu offers a limited selection, the quality and flavor of the beverages are excellent. The space is surrounded by lush greenery, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere. Please note that the menu currently does not include food items or hot coffee options.

Google
Nice vibes! Super cute and aesthetic here, it would make a great study spot! The Vietnamese coffee here is delish and they have a nice variety of foam toppings to choose from, like egg foam or pandan foam. Their matcha was ehh… it lowkey just tasted like milk.

Google
LOVE LOVE LOVE! My new favorite spot especially if I need a low key quiet place to work. They have WiFi, water cups and adorable plants you can buy. The staff was very detailed and knowledgeable when I asked about their menu. Parking is super easy too which is nice since not many coffee places have good parking. I will definitely come back.

Google
Very excited I got to try this while I was nearby! Glad when I pulled up there was an actual parking lot and not street parking for once in winter park. The outside looks somewhat unsuspecting but the inside is so pretty and has great vibes. Good music, natural light, plants, etc. I got a black iced coffee with pandan foam and it was really good! I like that the coffee wasn’t sweet; the foam balanced it out nicely. The only thing I can think of as a negative is if you were going to study here I can’t see many places to plug in a computer. Other than that, 10/10!

Yelp
From outside, it looks like an annex to the building formerly know as Lombardi's Seafood, but after entering, I realized that it is bigger than I thought. Although it seems to be still in soft opening, the quality of coffee and service here is excellent. I had a "Bạc Xỉu", meaning milk with some coffee, while our son and his fiancé tried the Matcha with Coconut Milk and Cà Phê Sữa Đá (Iced Coffee with Milk). They came out quickly and tasted very good. The Men's room is under construction or repair, but other than that, I love it.

Yelp
Stopped by Black Phin between an appointment and errands. Wasn't sure what to expect, but what a delightful surprise. No hot coffees or lattes here. They serve iced Vietnamese coffee and lattes. I went for the "regular" iced coffee, which has a touch of sweetened milk, and a miso toffee cookie...both were delicious. The space is beautiful: much like sitting on an outdoor patio with plants all around. This was a retail fish market years ago, but you wouldn't know it. Service was friendly and helpful. Great to know this place is here.

Yelp
Wow what a vibeeeee. Black Phin is located at the Lombardi seafood building (where The Heavy) was located. This spacious and charming cafe is filled with plants and decor with plenty of seating if you're looking to get some work done. I got the Vietnamese black coffee (Americano) and added pandan foam. I like a bitter coffee, so this was perfect for me with a sweet creamy touch from the pandan foam. I'll be coming back to try their matcha w/ ube foam next.

Yelp
This was such a unique space and was quite charming, in its own way. While there were not many items they had to offer, I was torn on which to try. The employee at the register was not only very friendly, but also so helpful in deciding what I wanted, giving recommendations, and explanations of different options. I tried the egg foam and it was perfectly creamy and paired so well with the stronger coffee. I want to go back for the ube! I do not remember what the cookie flavor was but it was so so delicious. The seating area was large enough that I did not feel funny sitting for a little bit, and it was easy for my friend and I to have a conversation without feeling obnoxious. And the plants and decor were a cute vibe. I loved the idea of the connecting CrossFit gym too. Definitely something I might have to revisit!!

Yelp
We had a great first experience at Black Phin! They are located inside the old Lombardi's Seafood building (where The Heavy used to be), along with the new plant shop, Kiwi & Fern, and a crossfit gym, All Inclusive CrossFit. I've never done crossfit, but this would certainly be the place to inspire to try -- love the ambiance and the vibe! The staff were super friendly and explained the different menu options. They specialize in Vietnamese phin drip cà phê, and they also have a selection of baked goods available. I was torn between the ube foam or the pandan foam for my iced coffee, but decided to go with the ube. My husband got their signature Cà Phê Sūa Ðá which is Robusta phin drip coffee & sweetened condensed milk. We both really enjoyed our drinks and they definitely pack a punch! We were quite energetic afterwards, so I'm glad we had them early in the morning because I was ready to tackle the day. I also really love the beautiful "Stronger Together" mural they added inside by local artist, Meaghan Cunniffe. Overall, this is a great new Asian-owned biz to support and we'll definitely be back. Gotta try the pandan foam next time!

Yelp
Such a cute little spot! Came here for the first time and there was plenty of parking out front, this spot is also shared with a CrossFit place. The vibe was airy and bright with plants and cute decor throughout. They were also selling home fixtures and protein powder (probably because of the CrossFit gym attached). Simple menu but I enjoyed that because of decision fatigue if there are TOO many options. I got the Vietnamese iced coffee with egg foam cold foam on top. Strong and delicious! The barista was helpful with recommendations. I sat and ready my kindle afterwards and it was so peaceful with not a lot of others there.

Yelp
When I first walked inside, I was amazed by the cozy decor. The outside definitely looks a bit unassuming, but don't be fooled! We tried coffees with both ube and salted foam. I recommend to order the plain black coffee and allow the foam to provide sweetness. The ube flavor really shined and I also love how salty the salt foam was-- other places would shy away from that salt level! There's ample seating with also some games to play in a corner. Would definitely return to enjoy a relaxing atmosphere.

Yelp
It's giving Restoration Hardware serving Vietnamese coffee. The former Lombardi's Seafood space is a new concept of coffee space. Not your full-on coffee shop, but still a beautiful space (don't be surprised if you hear people going "Wow" when they walk in their first time) where you are invited to sit and sip or login and chill. My Vietnamese coffee with milk and sea salt foam was delicious. There aren't a ton of drink options here but I believe they're trying to give you more than just caffeine. The Black Phin screams - or gently shouts? - vibes.

Yelp
AMAZING!! Honestly one of the best coffee shops i've been to lately. Its a vietnamese style coffee so its different but ive had other similar Vietnamese style coffees and this one takes the #1 spot. The vibes are **CHEFS KISS** the plants are such a cozy touch that makes me want to spend the entire there. The Service was great. I didn't know what to get so they helped me decide by asking questions so it was extremely helpful. I like my coffee/matcha less sweet and they were happy to make that accomodation. I would definitely go back! :)

Yelp
Some of the best matcha in town. The ambiance, the employees, and the location cannot be beat. There is ample parking and seating here to meet with friends or just work on your laptop for a bit. The iced matcha with ube cold foam is my go-to here. Perfect balance and sweetness and earthiness of the matcha tea. This place is definitely in my rotation for matcha.

Yelp
First off, points for being a local merchant and having plants. The interior was cute, as expected, with a little haphazard nature to the layout. Unfortunately, the rest for me was so-so. I went in at 2:55 on a Sunday, tried to order something decaf, and they couldn't do it. A bit weird for a coffee shop, but I rolled with it knowing I was mainly there to read. The service seemed a bit brusk, but I know that running a place can be hard, so again no hard feelings. Literally two minutes after sitting down the woman who took my order came over and asked me if I had any trash she could clear. I'd just sat down and the only thing on my table was my drink, so I was like "no thank you?". She then said "Just so you know we're closed now" and walked off. I'd come in just to read, and that had to have been obvious when I ordered. I was shocked they hadn't warned me. Plus, the drink wasn't anything I planned on actually drinking. So this was super disappointing, and the whole thing had a bit of a weird vibe. The place had 20 people who clearly had no idea either. They went around and kicked everyone out. Hopefully, just an isolated incident, but it felt like an off experience, so I thought I should share.

Yelp
Finally came around to trying Black Phin coffee, it's nestled in the former plant store known as "the heavy." Upon walking in the atmosphere felt warm and inviting, I had no idea what to get but the baristas gave me their recommendations! I got the Sua Da with egg foam and it was so delicious and so different. I wanted to try their Sandos but they had unfortunately sold out for the day. All in all, very beautiful interior with great coffee, I can see this being a nice place to work out of as well!

Yelp
I don't consider myself a coffee snob, but this is definitely the worst Vietnamese coffee I have ever had. I became obsessed with egg coffee prior to moving to Florida, and I just don't have the patience waiting for the coffee to drip through a phin filter at home. When I saw this place opened up and offered Viet coffee with egg cream, I was so excited! My friend and I popped in on a random Thursday. She ordered a matcha and said it tasted watered down. Nothing special. She would've preferred a Starbucks matcha, and this girl HATES Starbucks. I ordered a Viet coffee with egg cream. The coffee tasted extremely watered down, and the egg cream tasted like it didn't have enough condensed milk in it. The sitting area is really cute. You're surrounded by plants that I think you can purchase, and I think they're connected to a cross fit gym. Sometimes you can hear the weights slamming, so don't be alarmed. I would come here if the WiFi at my house went down and I needed a place to work, but we won't be back for the coffee.

Yelp
I finally got to check out Black Phin! First of their lattes are soooo good! And it's located right where kiwi & fern is, making this a plant coffee haven! It's a nice peaceful place to get a coffee and you won't regret having Black Phin because they are delicious!

Yelp
The salted cold foam was amazing!!!! The ube tasted more like just mocha but still really good.

Yelp
The service was great and the staff was so lively and kind. They were really quick with their orders, but also gave quality drinks (I would rather someone take their time to make good food than to have it rushed, so to have it be quick and delicious was great)! The ambiance was so calming and cute. I came when they had a farmers market and all the venders had great products and were so sweet. I loved all the plants they had and how open the space was. The food was so delicious. The matcha latte with sea salt foam was soooo good!! I got it with oat milk and light on the sweetness. It was perfect! I also paired it with an Earl Grey Tea Citrus cookie and it wasn't too sweet! The candied orange was a great touch, but the cookie was of course the best part. I had my friend try it and he kept taking pieces off of it lol! Highly recommend coming here for a nice, chill break in the morning/afternoon.

Yelp
Newly opened in the last few months! Black Phin is the cutest plant & Vietnamese coffee shop Everything you find around the shop is for sale from planters, plants, coffee, desserts, home decor and more. Located near downtown Winter Park, this was the perfect coffee bar vibe with a boho-vibe lounge area to catch up with my girl friends and relax. The entire street facing wall has an expansive window which gave the best natural lighting which is great for pictures and the lush greenery inside. I tried their matcha and the cashier allowed me to customize the simple syrup with semi sweetness. The ceremonial grade matcha was a very high quality and is hand whisked for this latte. I also opted for oat milk which was a great creamy touch to this comforting iced beverage. My girl friends also enjoyed their b Vietnamese coffees, one added Pandan foam and the other added Ube foam. They both agreed their lattes were strong and foams were so tasty! They were sold out of sandwiches last weekend but they should be back in stock by this week..can't wait to try their egg salad sando next time! We tried a few of their unique desserts which are light, fluffy, and not overly sweet. Check them out ASAP.

Yelp
Found this place via Instagram...who would have known that this spot off the main path in Winter Park would hold a cute little coffee shop (& crossfit)! Went during their soft opening and they only had 1 barista working. Got a Viet coffee with the Ube cold foam - was delicious but very much on the expensive side ($7-8). Saw some people sitting around doing work, but there was ample seating to sit down and enjoy my coffee.

Yelp
I've edited this review to be more clear and address the owners inaccuracy. Ambiance great. But if you want traditional coffee or what you are used to in gourmet coffee go elsewhere. I had hot coffee in Vietnam and it was amazing and was hoping to have it here. Not so much They focus on some kind of iced coffee only. But they said they will do pour overs soon. So it added to my confusion on why I could not get a hot coffee during my visit. Maybe licensing or something. Menu was weird. Easy to understand as they have in English and Vietnamese, just weird. And the girl told me they get the coffee from Amazon? I'm hoping she meant "the Amazon" and not the online retail giant. Coffee was stored in these big banquet sized vessels. The whole thing was strange. My friend had a tea and I had a cookie. Neither were very good. I don't see them lasting and politely but bluntly stated as such. Can't sugar coat it But if you want to chill in a cool environment maybe it will be your thing. I personally felt like the concept was rushed or just not well thought out. Just could not understand what they were focusing on and who would want it. They said they focus on robusta and iced viet coffee. So if you want iced coffee with a kick maybe you will like it.

Yelp
The coffee was delicious and the food items a delight. The baristas gave sage advice on drinks and great recommendations for food and coffee pairings. Kiwi and Fern provides the perfect ambiance to pair with Black Phin's coffee. Wish they had some gluten free small bite options but otherwise, this spot is such a treat.

Yelp
I want to love this place so bad but I just can't get behind it. I've been 3 times now and all 3 times I've hated my drink. My friend gets the yuzu matcha and that's actually quite nice, however I came here really wanting an iced viet the first time we came and the iced viet just falls flat. Iced viets have a very distinct creaminess that these drinks simply do not have. It's not necessarily a bad drink, but when I order an iced viet I want an iced viet, not a cold brew with cold foam being sold as one. Maybe it's the correlation with the cross fit and it's a 'healthier' alternative with a similar enough flavor profile that no one cares enough to complain? The second time I came back I ordered the same thing and it was the same issue again. The third and final time I came I got one of the seasonal drinks (the coffee cherry tea) and there was straight up red plastic chunks in the drink? Disappointed is an understatement. The service is great, the baristas are so kind! And the ambiance is also great when it doesn't smell like gym equipment inside. Just a shame about the coffee.

Ashly M.

Yelp
amazing viet iced coffee (strong as expected), AMAZING ube foam, great ambiance. part of the cafe is outdoors so it got a little warm later in the day

Yelp
Delicious! Very cool and inviting space with great Vietnamese coffee! Will be a returning customer each time we're in the area. Highly recommend!
