The Ride-Along Report: First Takes From Last Night’s Dinner - London - The Infatuation

"What It Is: A meat-forward restaurant in Shoreditch. Perfect for: Date Night, Affordable Mid-Week Dinner, Sunday Roast We couldn’t find much not to love about Blacklock. But then again, we’re meat lovers. It would almost certainly be a different story for a vegetarian, because there’s not a lot for them to eat here. We had a great pile of chops served in a meat juice drenched flat bread and it only cost us £20 each. Well, it would have only cost us £20 each if we hadn’t gone a bit crazy on the £5 cocktails. Verdict: This is not the best meal you’ll ever eat, but it’s fun, and it’s hard to fault the price. Best enjoyed with a big group of thirst and carnivorous friends." - sam collins, oliver feldman, heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, eileen twum

The Best Modern British Restaurants in London: Where to Eat British Food | Eater London

"An unpretentious celebration of quality British meat. Though premium cuts are an option, the £24 per person “all in” piles of perfectly grilled beef, lamb and pork chops are hard to beat for either value or taste. Diners can satisfy meat-and-two-veg urges with a selection of superb sides — chips, grilled baby gem lettuce with anchovies, and fiercely roasted sweet potatoes are stellar. Blacklock currently has two basement sites in the City and Soho; both are always buzzing. Two more locations, in Shoreditch and Covent Garden, have also opened." - Ed Smith

London’s Best Chips and Fries | Where to Eat Incredible Chips in London - Eater London

"Beef dripping is very much on brand at Blacklock, where the menu reads like Animal Farm. Crisp without and fluffy within, Midas-hued and perfectly seasoned, the chips cooked in it are justifiably famous. Blacklock is especially worth a visit on ‘Butcher Price Monday’, when the likes of Barnsley chops and tomahawks are up for grabs at cost price – the Soho original’s chips are just as good, but given the patchiness of the Square Mile’s spud coverage, this is where Eater’s hanging its hat." - Emma Hughes

I would give the service 100 stars if I can. It’s the first time for both me and my friend at Blacklock. We ordered mushroom on toast, prime ribs, garlic bone marrow, and cheesecake. The steak here tastes good, and I also wanted to try the bone marrow for so long. The cheesecake is also good, with good cream and biscuits. We were given to-start and cheesecake for free. Piotr Z. who served us really gave us a good time here, who also explained the menu carefully and helped us on water frequently. It’s also a reasonable price, both the food and service really deserve the price! We would definitely go back!

Google
- ‘all in’ sunday roast £28pp - white chocolate cheesecake £7.75 the ‘all in’ sunday roast may be pricey but it is SO worth it and a must try at least once. the meats were all cooked beautifully and so were the sides and the crackling was a nice addition. i always feel like places don’t give out enough gravy so the fact they do free refills here is heaven! even if you are full, try and squeeze in the white chocolate cheesecake bc it is divine especially paired with the berries. i’d say the atmosphere is very noisy and packed but it makes sense considering how many ppl want to visit! 🤭

This steakhouse serves a good variety of Sunday roast, the all in Sunday roast is an excellent choice for sharing. The portions are generous and everything was really tasty. The apple and rhubarb crumble was so delicious. The service is really efficient and they were all very friendly as well. It's a busy restaurant so is definitely recommended to book a table in advance. Highly recommended.

Made a reservation for two at Blacklock City and arrived 10 mins early (14:50) but were seated by our reservation time which was great. We ordered the "All In" which was pretty good I must say with the roast being succulent accompanied by a rich flavourful gravy. Service was good and waiter was charismatic and attentive visiting our table frequently. Last minute we decided to order the white chocolate cheesecake to share which seemed to be all the rave judging from the tables around us. We had received the dish it was baked in which was a pleasant rustic surprise and although it did taste heavenly, we wish the portion size was equally as big as the portions being dished out for the other tables. What we had received was a leftover corner portion in the dish. We did notice portion sizes differed per table and person depending on the waiters serving it. This was the only disappointing part of the evening. I think the small portion size could have been compensated by not charging us the same amount as a standard portion. Other than that, we hope to return soon and try other items on the menu.

Great chophouse/steakhouse. The sides are almost as much of a highlight as the meat is! We had the "all in" which was a good amount of meat for two. The chops were well cooked with a tasty amount of fat and the beef chop was still pink. They also came with bread underneath that was seasoned with garlic and rosemary and with all the meat juices which was amazing. The gravy was also some the best beef gravy I have ever tasted out of a home kitchen. The brocolli and walnut salad was also fantastic. The service was generally really good with our server(s) being attentive and filling our water, taking things we had finished with etc. they were also polite and seemed happy. Unfortunately we did order a non-alcoholic cocktail which took a while to come and we had already been served our starter and then main course and we had to ask/remind the waiter. The atmosphere was good. However our table was a little close to the bar and where people were walking past constantly. Admittedly, it must not be easy as one table has to be nearest but if they had spaced them out it wouldn't be as bad. Overall we are likely to return as the food is so good! Hopefully the two minor things mentioned will go smoother next time and we have a better table :)

I have never felt compelled to leave a bad review, but I was left thoroughly disappointed tonight. We live outside of the UK, but have made it a tradition to have Sunday roast dinner at Blacklock during our frequent visits to London. We have only ever dined at the Soho location, but we opted for City this time because our hotel was nearby and we wanted to have Sunday roast dinner for our last meal before an early morning flight. Our last dinner in London has always been at Blacklock, and is an event that we always look forward to. We arrived for our 18:15 booking a few minutes early and were seated promptly. We ordered quickly because we had plans after dinner. Unfortunately, our experience went downhill from there. We waited about 50 minutes for our food to be delivered lukewarm. In the interest of time, we did not ask for our food to be reheated because we were worried it might take long. Our waiter was nice enough, but we were shocked to still see the service charge on our bill even after he had acknowledged the long wait. Very upset to have such a disenchanting end to a long-standing tradition at an institution previously associated with happy memories.

Google
Our server, Piotr, was absolutely amazing, he provided excellent service for us and was extremely charming which made our night lovely. Food was delicious and the cheesecake was light and decadent. Price is also decent considering the amount we ordered. Recommend to come here with at least 3-4 people to enjoy the array of dishes available.

Google
A lovely dining experience, from entering to paying. One of the spots in London that truly know service. Of course the food itself is great too! Unexpectedly the cheesecake was the star of the show for me, as well as the roast potatoes. Piotr was an amazing server throughout the meal and introduced the wines to me as well.

Yelp
Sunday roast is amazing! Definitely make reservations. We got the lamb, beef, pork combo, so delicious! The cheesecake is the best I've had in years, served family style out of a large dish.

Yelp
This may be the best service I have had in all my recent travels. We had the Sunday roast and it was spectacular. We did the "all in" and it did not disappoint. I would certainly give this location and team an opportunity.

Yelp
Heaven for meat lovers. Great chops and steaks, trendy arty starter canapé style bites and super desserts! Buzzy atmosphere with the City returning to work and long lunches. Great service around £40 pp inc all.

Yelp
Food was okay. I expected more, however they only gave me one sheet of menu, where no steak was included. At the same time I saw other customers were having steak. Service: there was barely any service. I went there alone. Not sure if that's a problem, but they didn't even offer me a table. I was seated on the side bar which was very uncomfortable. Probably won't come here again due to the bad experience.

Yelp
I went for a Sunday Roast in Blacklock Shoreditch and I loved it. However, I was a bit disappointed by this branch. I had a Rump Fillet which was just OK and some Barbecued Baby Gems which were actually really great. Service was just average and a bit slow.

Yelp
I have eaten here twice now, on two different trips to London. I was surprised to see so few reviews in Yelp. This place is amazing! My group ordered "All In" and a few pitchers of Old Fashioned. We were not disappointed either time. The meat is cooked quite well and served on top of some fresh bread strips that soak up all the tasty juices from the meat. Even if you are avoiding carbs, you will fight for that bread under the pile of meat! The appetizers and sides were all well prepared, presented, and most importantly quite tasty! The pitcher of Old Fashioned was likewise well prepared, presented, and served. I highly recommend the pitcher if you have two or more people in your party who like Old Fashion cocktails. You will not be disappointed!

Yelp
This is the spot for meat lovers! But, having not been in the mood to eat so much meat, I opted for a balance and was pleasantly surprised with the burrata. It was light and well balanced- went very nicely with the heavier course

Yelp
If you're a foodie and love steak, this is the place for you. But Dine before 7:30 in order to get your choice of cut because when the meat runs out, the meat is out. Great cocktails too!

Yelp
Wear your stretchy pants and come HUNGRY. service is tops, beer is tops, steak is tops. Almost skipped dessert and that would have been a grave mistake. The cheesecake is so good, you could pop in just for dessert and it's a win.

Marcy C.

Yelp
We had a great meal of prime rib and Brussels sprouts. We tried the pigs head on toast on their recommendation and it was delicious! Meat lovers dream come true. And the waitstaff was super helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed the experience.

Yelp
The food was excellent, the service was incredibly attentive, and one of the waiters was so patient he took 15 minutes helping my mother find things on her map, really above and beyond.
