The 16 Best Barbecue Spots in Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"B. Cooper does the basics well—brisket, ribs, and sausage—but you have to get the lamb breast for the full experience. It’s not a cut we see often, and even rarer that we see it done this well. It will leave your fingers smelling like lamb for hours to follow, with rich, gamey flavor that will linger in your mind for even longer. The brisket and the ribs were delicious. The potato salad was one of the best ones I've ever had in my life. Since it's simply in a food truck/trailer, it gives off an authentic outdoor BBQ experience similar to a picnic since all seating is located outdoors.

Google
A little hard for us to find, thinking our noses would lead the way, but there were no typical smokehouse BBQ smells wafting on the air this Sunday afternoon. Once we found the trailer the BBQ was typical BBQ, except for the turkey, it was moist and juicy and smoked. The potato salad was delicious, corn salad was different but refreshing on the hot day. I did not care for the BBQ sauce(vinegar based) but the good thing is, is that it was not needed. I'm planning on coming back once the weather cools down and to try other items from the menu.

Stephan

Google
Warning: The size of the food truck is inversely proportional to the flavors of the BBQ: It's a tiny food truck, and out of that tiny food truck, comes out gigantic flavors & deliciousness. I had The Brisket for lunch. Yes. I capitalized the words because it's THE BRISKET!!!! It's tender, juicy, packed with flavors, smoked just right, crust on the outside, and you'll lick your fingers, and it's amongst the best I ever had. I have been to big names, and they are not in the same league compared with Blaine's It's served with a genuine smile, and your usual sides. There is no no need to write an encyclopedia about it, just go. If you don't, it's because you don't like BBQ or you're an idiot. Maybe both.

Stopped here on a rainy day for a quick bite. Generous portions of tasty meats. I had the turkey sandwich which was more than enough food.

Google
The BBQ is so good. They have a couple of sauces but I love the original. They are located in such a clutch spot. We had brisket and spareribs. The brisket is so juicy. We found a gem in the neighborhood.

Google
Fantastic bbq food - owner gave us some free sausage as we couldn’t decide what meats to get.

Google
Went 2 B.Coopers Barbecue for lunch with my family. It's a small spot with lots of seating, the wait was not long and customer service was great! I paid around 60 dollars for 2 big plates of BBQ and a brisket sandwich. If your looking for some BBQ without the long wait times and lines, this is the place for you.

Google
Probably the best barbecue food truck in Austin. The brisket was so tender and flavourful. Just melts right in your mouth. Service was swift. Would love to come here again during open mic comedy next door.

Yelp
I went to B Cooper's probably too close to closing time, but luckily I called ahead to make sure that they still had everything. They picked up immediately and let me know what was available. I was super excited to try the lamb. Upon arrival he let me know that he saved me about half a pound to try. I'm so glad he did! It was delicious. We ordered several options ribs, brisket, sausage, and lamb. The potato salad, spicy slaw, and creamy cole slaw. The brisket was SO moist. The kids loved the sausage. My brother raved over the ribs. Truly a fan of it all. The sides are more vinegar based, but definitely more of a Texas feel. The food truck is tucked away, but just use your nose to follow the smells . Great seating area and room to play for kids as well. I can't wait to try this place again!

Yelp
Tl;dr: Worth checking out, even if you don't play pickleball! B Cooper rightfully takes its place within the Austin BBQ scene, which is second to none. If you've been to some of the more famous joints (Franklin, Terry Black, KG), you know that waiting in line is just part of the experience. But B Cooper, right now at least, smokes top quality BBQ w/ out spending all day in line. I don't think this will be the case forever, so I suggest heading over soon. I sampled the moist brisket, spare ribs, and lamb. Of those 3, I have to say the lamb stood out! I don't eat much lamb, but this rack had a nice peppery bark, with mild lamb flavor, good fat rendering throughout and extremely tender meat. The brisket was really good as well: great bark, nice smoke ring, the right tenderness (w/ out being mushy), lip-coating rendered fat ... Yum The rib wasn't a highlight, but I still enjoyed eating it even if it was a bit more fatty that I would have preferred. The pickles & 2 sauces were superb as well. Though I will say the "sweet" sauce wasn't sweet, which was a pleasant surprise for me.

Yelp
Really great stuff at Blaine's. The picturesque Brisket was on point and cooked to perfection. Not undercooked or overcooked, he nailed it. The spare ribs were terrific, so flavorful and again cooked perfectly. A lot of places overcook their ribs but he got it right and they were neither mushy or tough, just tender and the meat comes off with a gentle tug. Enjoyed the czech style Texas sausage too. Don't forget to try their sauces. The meat is awesome without them but I really liked the tang of all 3 (spicy, vinegar and regular). Blaine's clearly puts great effort into what they do. The trailer might look small and unassuming but the Bbq here is big time!

Yelp
This place is fire. We live down the street and had no idea it was located in the Pickleball club. Found out about it via an Offline deal and we're not disappointed. We tried a sampler (turkey, brisket, ribs and sausage) with potato salad. The meat was moist and juicy with three sauce options. Spicy sauce was our fave. We would absolutely get BBQ from here again!

Yelp
On my way to the Austin airport, I did a search for good bbq in the area and B Cooper was one of many that popped up. The reason I decided to give them a try is because the others looked like popular, busy restaurants and I didn't have time to wait in a long line. Upon arrival, I realized that they were set up like a food truck off of the side of a road. They actually occupy a large outdoor space where they have their bbq set up and tables/chairs for customers to eat. There were only two other customers there so this is definitely a hidden gem! I ordered the 2 meats for $20 and selected the sausage and brisket, along with the pinto beans (I wasn't sure what side to get and the owner recommended that). Such a great value for the amount of food that I got! The brisket was extremely tender and tasty, as was the sausage. This was definitely one of the best Texas BBQ's that I've had! It came with 3 sauces - sweet, spicy and vinegar. The pinto beans were also amazing. The only drawback to this place is that if you choose to eat there, the flies will try to get a taste of your finger-lickin' food. You just can't avoid them. This is no fault to the owner though, but I just wanted to warn you. Don't pass this place up if you're in the Austin area!

Yelp
LOCATED IN THE PICKLE-BALL COURT y'all are absolutely sleeping on this place. Almost couldn't find it. So few places where the brisket is the best part, but this placed had awesome brisket, would come back for the brisket alone. Got the 2 meat plate with brisket, sausage, potato salad and beans. It was all good.
google avatar

Ru L.

Yelp
I was looking for a new BBQ joint to try out and B Coopers came up in my search, and relatively close to downtown. B Coopers is a food trailer located off of Manor stationed at a Pickle Ball Court, which I found out after roaming the area looking for it. Best parking is on Curtis St. or in the parking lot behind the pickle ball court. It was a one man operation and luckily I was the first customer for the day. The guy is super friendly and got my food to me quickly. I ordered the Texas Trinity and the meat was tender and delicious. My sides were the spicy coleslaw and potato salad. I'm not much of a coleslaw eater but B Coopers' slaw was sweet and tangy, crunchy with a kick of heat. Since B Coopers is a food trailer there's not a whole lot of seating options in the shade. I found a table that was slightly under the shade of a pecan tree, but it was on an incline so I had to keep an eye on my food from rolling off the table.

Yelp
A top BBQ in Austin and flying under the radar of influencers right now. Definitely coming back and highly recommend this spot to any barbecue lover! Surprisingly had no line at all on Saturday morning. I imagine it's only a matter of time before it gets one! The owner was a super nice guy. Got the three meat plate and the sausage and baby back ribs are my favorite so far. Sausage Juicy, packed with Smokey flavor, light pepper kick. Baby back ribs Low and slow, fall off the bone soft with tasty bark and pink smoked edges. Brisket Juicy, soft and moist brisket with tasty bark. Cooked perfectly. Brisket goes better with the spicy BBQ here to balance the flavor and add some pepper! This was delicious, but it didn't quite have the same flavor kick as the ribs or sausage without sauces. The sweet sauce is flavorful and goes well with all meats, but spicy goes better with brisket. Enjoy extremely tasty Austin BBQ without a wait!

Yelp
Must try BBQ spot(s) in Austin On my first trip to Austin, I visited a friend and we did a blind Austin BBQ taste test between three different local restaurants. Terry Blacks, Ironworks, and B cooper. Below is a ranking how they fared, with my favorites ranked in each category. My one caveat is that we got the food to go. If I return I will update my review with how the restaurant stacks up. B cooper - In the local barbecue food competition, I think there were some highs and lows at B Cooper BBQ. In the high category, we have what is undoubtedly the most important part of barbecue food, the sausage and the brisket. I thought the brisket was very tasty and it only came in second place to Terry Blacks. It broke apart nicely and was very juicy. I would be very happy if I got this at a restaurant. The sausage was great and had a bit of a smoky flavor. The lows were the sides. I didn't love the baked beans. There was a weird flavor to them. They weren't dry, because they were suspended in liquid, but I'm not sure what went wrong here. It might have been an over the top artificial smoky flavor and made it not great. Again, this could be due to traveling home with it so I won't take too much away from that. Also, the pickle is not my favorite. It's not crinkle cut like normal pickles, and it felt more like a cucumber that hadn't fully evolved yet. Overall, I would not be disappointed coming back and trying this place. However, I think Terry, Black's and Iron works are the only other places that I outranked B Cooper on my taste test.

Yelp
Gives new meaning to a "hidden gem." Driving in Austin on a rainy evening, Yelp led us to B Cooper BBQ. The address brought us to a pickleball club. Puzzled, I called and Blaine Cooper answered, explaining that, yes, his BBQ trailer is parked on the back side of the racquet club and to drive down the alley to the parking lot. With that info we found a cute setup - the trailer, plus picnic tables with umbrellas. As for the food, it's a WOW. We had the brisket (so tender) and baby back ribs (perfectly smoked) with sides of potato salad (creamy delicious), spicy slaw (vinegary) and pinto beans (smoky baked beans, fantastic). A hidden gem worth the treasure hunt to find.

Yelp
So being a Texas native but living in Denver at the moment, I've been jonesing for some good ole' TX BBQ for a few years. Originally I was planning on hitting up Terry Black's or Franklin's but the house we were staying at was in close proximity to B Coopers. After realizing the other two would have been a whole day adventure in this oppressive heat, I opted to give the closer, less well known joint a shot. Thank you baby Jesus, this place is the real deal. I went with the 4 meat combo, double sausage, brisket, and baby back ribs with creamy coleslaw and some potato salad. All that came with fresh jalapeños, onions, and what I can only assume are home made sliced pickles and bread. Oh yeah and 3 different sauces (sweet, spicy, and vinegar) loved them all! Sausage - juicy, dripping, incredible flavor Brisket - not too lean, not too fatty, just right, juicy, and incredible (Prob the best I've had tbh) Ribs - Fall off the bone, ridiculous flavor Sides - definitely heavy on the vinegar but delicious nonetheless All this was a whopping $25 after tax oh and virtually no wait. (Crazy good value/dollar) Fed my wife and I and a friend had a few bites. Still had some leftover. Absolutely killer value. Probably going to go back tomorrow before we head to Dallas for the 4th. Damn I wish Colorado had BBQ like this

Francisco T.

Yelp
Great food, owner is very friendly. Location is a bit difficult to find but I'm also not from the area. At the moment there are no facilities but appears to be under construction.

Yelp
B Cooper got a fan in me! Phenomenal ribs, pulled pork, even the sides were awesome! The corn salad had a kick but so fresh and yummy. The owner ran out of brisket but literally had one piece he gave to a friend in the party. Such a sweetheart. Will be back when we're in town next, will try to make it earlier before the brisket runs out
google avatar

Katherine B.

Yelp
This place is so amazing. Had to choose between all the BBQ places in Austin due to only being here one night and I don't regret my decision at all. The pulled pork was so tender and the sauces are amazing as well. Even my boyfriend who hates pulled pork said that it was incredible. Reasonably priced and kind service. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Amazing bbq, unique recepies! Tastes like nothing else you can find anywhere in Austin

Yelp
When you read that this is a hidden gem, believe it. It's tucked away in a little strip of grass that can be a little hard to miss if it's your first time stopping by. It's one guy with his smoker making wonderful food and that's all it needs to be. The value for money is incredible - you get several meals worth of food for just over 20 bucks. While all the food was fantastic, the brisket and sausage are phenomenal and a must-try. The spicy slaw and beans were a standout to me but all of the sides were good. I read that the lamb is just as good as the brisket but I didn't get a chance to try it (definitely next time, though). You get plenty of sauces (both the sweet and the spicy vinegar sauces are excellent), house pickles, onion, jalapenos, and bread with every meal too. Blaine is super accomodating and will bring out cutlery and napkins if you're staying to eat. There's a covered area with tables or you can take the food to-go if you prefer. This is straight up a great spot. If you live here or you're just visiting, give this place a try. It's no-fuss delicious food that stands up to all of the other BBQ joints without the wait. You won't regret it!

Celeste J.

Yelp
Had to make sure to get some barbecue on my trip to Austin & coming here was the best choice! The good reviews led me here and I'm glad I tried it. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with the creamy slaw and the sauces were the perfect touch. The service was great! Incredibly kind and made sure I knew I could ask for what I needed. The outdoor seating was the best spot to enjoy my delicious meal and take in the fresh air. Would've stuck around longer if the mosquitoes weren't eating me alive. Definitely recommend and hope to be back on my next trip.

Yelp
I have a penchant for the eclectic and odd. This place with the 1940's trailer, not an Airstream. I think he said a Westcraft Westwood but I was busy reading the chalboard menu outside. When he's there you can follow the smoke to the trailer there is no indoor seating it's outside on picnic tables under a tent. Parking is limited and I parked on the street. Order up the three meat plate. Smoke flavor and tender brisket was fork tender. Delicious. The ribs were done right and the sausage was good. It was a lot of meat to eat. Add in a creamy cole slaw and three small cups of sauce sweet, spicy, and vinegar. I believe he has a love of vinegar as the creamy cole slaw had a distinctive vinegar flavor. The pickles or baby cucumbers were immersed in vinegar and spice so be aware. It's definitely house made I've never had a pickle like this out of a can or Sysco. No beer but canned soda. Check the website since I noticed days open change and he does other events. Yes he does meat by the pound too.
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
This is the least-known truly great bbq place in Texas -- better than a lot of big name places. A must-visit for the who want to eat the best rather than eat to go home and say where you ate. Full details at johntannersbbqblog, search Cooper.

Yelp
Stopped on a sunday - scooter ride from downtown - was amazing - best brisket - cool vibe - authentic - away from crowds - owner extremely friendly and passionate about what he does - top notch experience

Daniel D.

Yelp
Hard to beat. Circled this East 7th neighborhood gem for awhile before finally giving in. Grades higher than anything I've had in the town that starts with an L, and fits right in with the rest of the heavy hitters in East Austin. Brisket and spare ribs were smoked to perfection. The ribs had a generous dry rub that I was all about. Oddly enough, star of the show was the housemade pickled cucumbers and jalapeños. Don't tell pork I have a thing for a good pickle once in awhile.
google avatar

James H.

Yelp
As far as Austin bbq goes pretty pedestrian. And just because you don't see a line be prepared to wait, took almost an hour to get my food when I was in a three person line.
google avatar

Carlo M.

Yelp
Flew into the ATX for a house search. I needed a BBQ fix to complete the ATX trip. B-Cooper came thru. They are the real BBQ deal. I recommend the sausage and the ribs! Much props for Blaine for hanging tight during this pandemic and staying open. Please support your local biz and try to call in your order, and pick up.

Heidi W.

Yelp
This BBQ is the best! We used to live near the food truck and loved it so much that we had him cater our backyard wedding. We ordered some of our favorites- brisket, sausage, beans, spicy slaw, and corn salad (his special events take on the elote we love so much at the truck). Everything was just fantastic! I can't tell you how many people raved about the food, and many of these people are Texans, so they know. A friend of ours said, "I think this is the best BBQ I've ever had, and I'm from Lockhart." So yeah, you need to try B.Cooper :) Thank you, Blaine!
google avatar

Stephen O.

Yelp
What a great hidden spot for BBQ in Austin!! The brisket and sauces were amazing! Meat had already fallen off the bone of the baby backs when they arrived! The sauces were good too! Make a stop here for your bbq fix!

Andrew M.

Yelp
Food is awesome. Service is amazing. Such a great spot. Ambience is exactly what I want from BBQ spot. Great place.

Yelp
I found this place because I had driven past the sign hanging off the gate multiple times and I was super interested-- mainly because of the "hole in the wall" feel of the place. So my gf and I finally decided to try it out! Food: The barbecue wasn't bad at all. Not the best pork ribs I've had, but it was pretty good for the price point! The owner was even nice enough to throw in another half pound of ribs for us which was awesome. The pickles were great and the sauces were extremely diverse and flavorful, but I would only go with 2/4 of them moving forward. I'm definitely down to try the other menu items at this place next time. Atmosphere: It was cold and rainy but I enjoyed walking over. There is a pit situated right next to the food truck, and there is an additional seating area right in front of the truck. Nothing out of this world here. Service: Great service, exactly what you'd expect from a locally owned restaurant. The owner was super nice and generous and made sure we were taken care of. Overall, it was a good experience and I look forward to coming back to try the other menu items. If you are in the area, definitely check this place out and support your local Austin area businesses!
google avatar

Jon G.

Yelp
I had a 2 meat plate with brisket and baby back ribs. I didn't use any sauce but it is provided in small plastics cups. The meat was delicious on its own. My coworkers and I were in town from Wisconsin and we enjoyed the entire Austin outdoor dining experience at this location. Nice treat and a memory was made.
google avatar

Frank L.

Yelp
It's been awhile since barbecue surprised and delighted me. I've had salt lick so many times I can hardly taste it anymore, and the craft meat folks in East Austin are closed so often I hardly bother. When I saw that B Cooper was open today and ready to serve some BBQ, I didn't know what to expect, but now I know: this is FANTASTIC! I got the three meat plate with double brisket and ribs, plus potato salad and spicy slaw. WOW! The meat was seasoned perfectly and just the right balance between falling off the bone tender and still having some texture. Not only were the sides excellent, but we got plenty of the delicious pickles and jalapeños to go with them. I really appreciated this - I hate it when BBQ places are stingy with the pickles! We will be back for more! THANK YOU!
google avatar

Chuck S.

Yelp
A newcomer to the BBQ orbit certainly has the chops to compete with the more established BBQ places in Central Texas. All of the meats hit the mark, especially the lamb. The sides were good and the meat portions were quite generous. It might be the only place around that offers a 5 meat plate. This is B Cooper, not to be confused with the more famous mini chain. The sides are spicy and not for the faint of heart. Homemade sweet pickles were also great.

Will S.

Yelp
Awesome place, hidden gem. Brisket and the other meats have good flavor. Great sauces and homemade pickles! Good quality food, friendly owner.
google avatar

Steven B.

Yelp
As noted in my other reviews five stars are next to impossible to achieve in my book, there's always room for improvement. If I could, I'd give B Cooper's four and a half stars. I've eaten Barbecue here in Austin for the last four days. Every place had it's pro and cons. Franklin's, Terry Blacks, Stiles Switch are all worth going back to. I've now added B Cooper's to my list of favorites. If You want good Barbecue without all the hype check it out. You won't find Barbecue this good at these prices at any of the big establishments. If You like supporting the little guy then this is the place to dine. Read the reviews, this place is the one to try.

Charles W.

Yelp
Incredible BBQ at a hidden gem in east Austin. The ribs and brisket are top notch. I highly recommend trying.

Cody H.

Yelp
Favorite new restaurant on the east side. This is my second time back in a week. Definitely check it out before it becomes somewhere that you need to line up for. Food is clearly a labor of love. Meats are great and all of the sides are homemade. Highlights: Smoked lamb Brisket Baby Back Ribs Spicy cole slaw Homemade pickles Homemade pickled jalapeños Vinegar BBQ sauce The two meat plate is a TON of food.

Jonathan E.

Yelp
Fantastic Saturday hang if you're craving some good meats and simple vibes! I ordered the "2 Meat Plate" and received enough food for a small Army - I had delicious leftovers for two days. Let's talk about those pickles! The owner makes them on site and they taste like they're fresh outta delicatessen in Yonkers. SERIOUSLY, get the pickles (fun fact - they're free)

Mimi D.

Yelp
With it!!! Service was A1 I got sausage And tried some of the brisket It practically melted in my mouth I'd definitely go back
google avatar

Ramy S.

Yelp
This man is doing something incredible, easily some of the best BBQ I've had in Austin paired with excellent service and great outdoor pocket of space.

Jared T.

Yelp
Excellent quality, taste, selection and price! I was able to find this gem in East Austin and frequent it at least once a week, if not more!
google avatar

Bran D.

Yelp
The standard for bbq in Austin is high. B. Cooper meets that high quality standard and is probably one of the best pits on the east side of Austin. Unlike la bbq and franklin there is no line and because he's new, you shouldn't have to worry about him running out which means you don't have to show up at 7 am. Highly recommend checking the spot out. It's also byob! Also, very keto friendly bbq sauces!

Betsy S.

Yelp
We were looking for some good BBQ close to an area we were headed to and GPS let us to B Coopers BBQ and Oh My were we pleasantly surprised!! Blaine knows his BBQ, the best smoked, tender, flavor you'll find, we enjoyed brisket, pork ribs and pulled pork along with homemade potato salad and coleslaw....Yes, yes....we'll look forward to returning and bring others with us....Note: Blaine is replacing the 'open' sign and is open Thurs- Sun 11am - ?, he's certainly tucked away, but worth the adventure...
google avatar

Lonnie C.

Yelp
If I could give this place 6 stars I would. Definately some great BBQ. Good size menu with a large selection of meats...even has lamb (which I will try next time). All sides are made from scratch, even the pickles and onions. Brisket was so tender...definately no knife needed to cut, and the flavor was amazing. Pulled pork was delicious. You better be hungry because the portion size of the meat and sides is for a hungry cowboy not a soccer mom. Give it a try. He needs the business and you won't be disappointed. Grubhub also delivers from here.
google avatar

Ethan F.

Yelp
Great BBQ!!! Moist brisket with tons of flavor. Try the spicy slaw and spicy BBQ sauce.

M G.

Yelp
Hidden gem, almost couldn't find it tucked away around the corner. Prices extremely reasonable for the quality. One of the best, or possibly the best, brisket. Also got some lamb as well!
google avatar

Jonathan B.

Yelp
We got this from Uber eats. We got pork ribs, beef brisket, and sausage. First, the sausage was really good! It has a little bit of heat which is great. The brisket had like no fat and a very nice smoke layer. So tender! Okay the ribs y'all! Fell off the bone when you bite them! Like they should. They have a nice spice rub I think which makes them extra yummy. We didn't get any sauce though. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Steven C.

Yelp
Got some bbq plates here the other day and it's some of the best bbq I've had in a while. The owner or employee that helped me was super nice and helpful. Everything I had was perfect. Brisket, spare ribs, pulled pork, potato salad, collard greens, great pickles and their sweet and vinegar bbq sauces are SO good! I highly recommend this place
google avatar

Johnathan M.

Yelp
Hands down best BBQ I have had in Austin. Brisket is moist and the beer can chicken is incredible. The pickles and jalapeños that come as sides are also incredibly fresh and taste like they are home-made. Potato Salad was yummy too.

Yelp
I tried B Cooper for the first time on Friday and was impressed. We initially tried to place an order on Thursday, but the owner called me personally and apologized saying he couldn't fulfill it. Not a problem, I'd swing by the next day. So glad I did! The brisket, pulled pork, beans, potato salad, and house-made pickles were all amazing! The meat was the perfect balance of flavor and texture. He even threw in an extra half pound of pulled pork because of not being able to place the order the previous day. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Really impressed with B Cooper Barbecue. Had the pulled pork, baby back ribs and lamb ribs last weekend -- all were great. The lamb ribs were the biggest surprise - perfectly tender and lamb-y with a nice char. But the baby back ribs were probably my favorite. It didn't hurt that Cooper handed me a rib to eat as I waited for him to put my order together. Excellent spicing, great meat, perfectly cooked. The sides were great too, especially the pickles. They pack a punch. I'd been looking for a pork bbq spot for years and I finally found it. Thanks Cooper. I'll being seeing you soon.

Yelp
The barbeque here is simply fantastic. Meat melts off the bone and is quite rich in flavor. Order came within 20 minutes. It wasn't very busy when we went at lunch time. The seating space is limited. We picked it up to-go and eat at a park nearby. Would definitely go back there again.
