First let me start by saying don't judge a book by it's cover." For the most part one goes out to eat for the food then ambiance and decor come later? I'll put it on myself as not being well versed, however walking in I was trying to figure out the theme of Bleu". Location is a strip mall, being in Vegas I can understand the blackout mirror window film from the outside to keep the sun's rays form entering, therefore nothing outstanding to invite one into the establishment, wasn't really sure which or where the front door was. Once entering..."just what is Bleu?" My wife did the research to pick this place and when she told me the menu items I kinda of expected a French-Asian type of vibe, after all the word Bleu derives from Old French and garlic noodles was the base starch....expectations left at the door. Inside was very dark, walls painted dark blue, accent wall black, couple round mirrors (residential vanity mirrors) hung on wall. Tables and chairs all black and laid out as best as could given the small space and dimensions.
Yes nice R&B music going on, however TV screens were tuned to some network news program, didn't fit the theme? Greeting by server was friendly and warm, she sat us immediately as there were only two other patrons at the time. Specifically told us that the food was prepared from scratch so preparation time would be a little longer. That intrigued me, fresh made, hot...did not disappoint. Unfortunately she said her delivery truck didn't make it so they didn't have ox tail, beef ribs and some other stuff, ox tail and beef ribs was what I came here for.? Well not on them...just in the cards I guess. Ordered the garlic fried string beans as veggies and the Lamb Chops over garlic noodles, yes it took a while as warned earlier cooked from scratch.
All the food tasted GREAT! Lamb chops were a little on the thin side but I got 5 of them. Garlic noodles was just that garlicky, very very tasty...so does one go out to eat JUST for the food??? Did I say "don't judge a book by it's cover? Well the "cover" left much to desire...decor was very sparse, dark paint scheme, vanity mirrors on wall, fake white orchid blooms pasted around mirrors, fake plastic ivy climbing greens on wall and lower window coverings. Had a "kiosk" area off in the front corner for walk-in food to go orders with paper home printed instructions scotch-taped to wall above tablet.
I walked over to cashier area and noticed multiple placards and frames with "Best of..." awards? Article said owner/chef starter with a food truck, was thinking was this their attempt at a brick an mortar restaurant? Paid for 1st and last rent of lease and came up way short on budget for decor? Prices were a bit high for a restaurant with such poor ambience/decor. Other reviews suggest this is a good place for a date? uhhhh unless your date is your long time friend/spouse, who you kidding. Not the place to impress, unless they are major foodies and that's all that matters.
I would defiantly, perhaps order take home, when the craving for garlic noodles hits.
