6 Best Day Trips from Paris

"From a self-taught chef, the high level of modern Flemish cooking happening here draws increasingly discerning crowds. New York City loft meets Berlin beer garden meets French industrial zone: a vast space with heavy use of brick, rough-hewn wood, metallic beams, and massive open kitchen. It's laid-back and casual, welcoming and cool, a vibe that doesn't adequately prepare you for the high level, original cooking that lands on the plate. There’s a fixed menu called “Les yeux fermés,” a multi-course surprise with drink pairings, which shows off the bounty of the region. Sample dishes might include creamy pollack rillettes with bread chips, endive leaves and a jus de cuisson mousse; brined and grilled chicken with plump cauliflower; nettle sorbet with whole strawberries, strawberry chips, and yogurt mousse." - Lindsey Tramuta, Mary Winston Nicklin

The Best Day Trips Outside Paris for Great Restaurants and Bars | Eater

"Florent Ladeyn’s modern Flemish canteen occupies a converted carpenter’s workshop in Vieux-Lille, with an atmosphere that feels like a cross between a loft and a beer garden — metallic beams, exposed brick, and rustic wood surfaces — pairing casual conviviality with serious technique. The kitchen focuses exclusively on ingredients sourced within a roughly 30-mile radius, producing inventive regional dishes such as pork shoulder yakitori, creamy pollack rillettes with endive and jus mousse, mackerel with celery and chervil in a buttermilk-and-leek oil sauce, and buckwheat-salted caramel cream puffs; out-of-range products like olive oil, chocolate, and citrus are intentionally excluded, and chicory is used in place of coffee, even in a chicory Irish coffee." - Lindsey Tramuta

Bloempot

"Florent Ladeyn, a great defender of his region's terroir, is at the helm of this self-professed "Flemish canteen". An atypical setting (once a carpentry workshop), good natural ingredients and original recipes – refreshing! There is no telephone here: reservations are made through the website or in person." - Michelin Inspector

We went here for dinner on a Friday night. The venue is great. There’s a beautiful entrance that leads to the restaurant. We decided on the full experience. Basically a surprise menu with drinks. We had a great evening and the food is great. Some things weren’t as expected though. Although it was a full experience, a drink with the first and last course wasn’t included. That was an extra €50 we didn’t expect to spend when we booked as it was supposed to be a *full* experience. All other courses did come with a pairing. The drinks were mostly wine, except for one beer. I like beer, but this beer was pretty bad. Lastly we were a bit surprised that we had to share a small piece of meat as the main course. Overall we had a great evening out and this restaurant ended up being some great value for money. I would definitely recommend trying Bloempot at least once.

Great restaurant with good service and an imaginative and interesting menu. The savoury courses were excellent but the sweet courses a little disappointing. The alcohol pairing was very different to the norm.

Fantastic surprise menu for €60 created using local ingredients. There’s an option to get alcoholic or non alcoholic pairings as well This was my favourite meal after 2 months of travel around Europe. The food was perfectly cooked and creative. Hats off to the chef! I highly recommend this place!

Good food and reasonable price but not as impacts as I expected. But the service is great! I pick the tasting menu I think the chef still try to experiment things and to find his/her signature taste or flavors, if the experiments are done I think the food will be great and might get a michelin star for sure!

Loved this place which serves quality & creative dishes, made with local products only. The staff was lovely and took the time to talk us through each course of the meal. The atmosphere was fancy but still cosy and warm (industrial design). You can expect to spend at least 2-3h there! Would definitely go back again someday

Loved this place. The staff were super friendly, and we're more than happy to speak in English. We did the full wine painting with our booking and loved every minute of it. This is a must go if you love fine dining and willing to go with the flow in terms of what is offered. They only source local food to a distance of 120km of Lille, making each serving unique to what is in season at the time.

Great restaurant in the heart of Lille. Service excellent from well trained staff. Fluent in English. Enjoyed 7 courses with 5 ‘natural’ wines. Delicious complex flavours with well matched wine. No rush to leave and enjoyed the atmosphere. We will definitely visit again 🥘🍷

Google
Wonderful restaurant in Lille. Truly amazing experience. The menu you only find out on the day, they say it's three courses for lunch but in reality it was far more than that. Excellent, highly highly recommended.

Yelp
Lille cuisine is not what most people think of when someone says French food. This is not the French Riviera. It is Northern France. Close to the border of Belgium. It's cold. And the food reflects their weather and traditions. It's more hearty than sunny and bubbly. And it's delicious. Bloempot is a culinary must if you are in striking distance. Get the preset course which they change everyday. The chefs do everything top notch. We had 5 -7!courses. Lost count. I would also recommend the wine pairing. Staff is warm and engaged. Don't take the little cute butter dish with Bloempot on the side. Or do.

Yelp
After having lunch here on Saturday my boyfriend and I concluded we had become food snobs. With all the four and five star reviews we expected something great. Yes, the interior is nicely and modernly done. Yes they have some unique options, like a beer pairing with your meal instead of the traditional wine pairing (which is also available). Yes, they tried some innovative things, like a meringue dessert with beetroot and radishes (not a home run, I'm afraid) and the beer butter (third base on that one). But there were also a lot of uninventive dishes, such as the meat (a bit chewy) with sauce (good but boring), the hard boiled egg (just a hard boiled egg, nothing fancy about it) and an apple pie (apples were soaked in some sort of alcohol but otherwise it was pretty standard). Overall it was all good but none of it was wow - except the service, which was very attentive, personable and not pretentious. Five stars for service but sadly three stars for food. Not Michelin worthy in my opinion.

Yelp
This is probably one of my favorite restaurant in town. Traditional recipes from the north of france realized with a contemporaneous and delicate cuisine. The chef respects the culture and the ingredients. The menu is based on the seasons.
