"Blue Star Donuts, known for its specialty doughnuts in flavors like blueberry bourbon basil, Cointreau creme brulee, and passion fruit cocoa nib, closed its Venice location. It was a competitor to Voodoo Doughnut." - Rebecca Roland

"Just like Salt & Straw up the street, Blue Star is a Portland kid trying to make it in Hollywood. And also like Salt & Straw, Blue Star has succeeded. The lines at this donut shop can be long, and the pace is, well, we'll call it gentle. Not to say Blue Star has bad service—it’s just that every single person at the counter is having an emotional crisis trying to decide whether they want a crackly creme brulee donut or “the glossy O.G.” that tastes like creamy horchata. Great Great vegan donuts! I wish there is more kinds vegan because all we got was great! Nice service too. My favorite is the apple-brandy vegan donut, so fluffy yet crispy and really tasty glaze. The Mexican chocolate vegan donut is greatly decadent and a lot about chocolate. The orange vegan one is good too.

I went to Blue Star on the recommendation of a friend and was encouraged by the fact that they offer old-fashioned cake donuts - my favorite. An added bonus is their stellar branding and cool Abbot Kinney location. I am only subtracting a star because I was expecting to be blown away, which I was not. The donuts were Vegan, which was cool, and I loved the texture but there is was something about the taste that just wasn't quite there. I have had really good Vegan donuts before and these were not them. I did get a Lemon Poppyseed donut that was really good (I paired it with ice cream for a pretty unique flavor). These donuts also lasted for a while. I kept them unsealed in a box for a few days and the taste remained pretty good. If you are on Abbot Kinney, definitely stop by this place for some donuts. However, I would not make the trip just to try Blue Star. I will be in Oregon in September and I hope to try their donuts there!

Google
This is a great little donut place near Venice Beach. Be warned this is not your typical donut shop but they have a lot of bespoke custom-made donuts with different flavors. Unfortunately they all seem to have a bit of a citrus taste to them including the chocolate donut with almond sprinkles on top. And also the donut I had was not very sweet and had a bit of a bitter aftertaste. If you want a traditional sweet donut I would find another place.

Google
Ordered 3 donuts via uber eats. * All are delicious, and not too sweet. * The poppy lemon donut esp stands out & I highly recommend it. Will be back again for more donuts 🤤

Google
I really really really disappointed.. We bought three donuts, it weren’t fresh. Apple cider fritter and Buttermilk old fashioned donut are dry…. Feel like they were made the day before.. Vairhona chocolate crunch was ok !

Google
The last time I visited Blue Star was 3.5 years ago. Surprisingly, their price remains the same. When we arrived, there were only 3 options left and we bought Blueberry Cake and Chocolate Buttermilk. If you haven't been here, they are more like cakes than donuts. Blueberry cake is just average, but Chocolate Buttermilk is probably the best donut we have tried, period. It has rich chocolate flavor with crispy surface. Not too sweet, just perfect!

Google
Absolutely excellent donuts. I tried the Valhrona chocolate crunch, and I must say that it's the first time in my trip in the US that I tasted a donut with an icing that actually tastes like good chocolate. Perfect for your chocolate and/or donut craving. However -1 star for the price, more than 5$ for a donut is too much on the expensive side to be forgiven by the good taste.

Andrea Santos

Google
the cashier was really friendly, great service. donuts were tasty with artisanal flavors. blueberry bourbon basil - fluffy brioche bun with nice tart flavor from blueberry lemon poppy - crispy and dense, nice lemon flavour ganache chocolate almond (pictured) - softer donut, ganache was too rich for me

Yelp
So so sad that I just found out this place closed. Great for my sugar fast but terrible for my heart. This was the last location I know in LA and for me literally the best donut place in LA and I don't even really like donuts. Blue star was different . Like many restaurants / food establishments out of the PDX... blue star really made an impression because you can tell the people who started the establishment really cared about their craft and the food that they produced. Perhaps the rent was too high . I see this time and time again businesses choosing high traffic areas like Abbot Kinney in Venice, but again in LA really hard to keep up with the lease payments . You will be missed .

Yelp
Super yummy gourmet donuts! I personally am a maple bar girl and this place does it over the top! My son tried the chocolate candy cane, also very tasty. Enjoying the AK people watching -- unbrushed hair, slippers, unthreaded faces, no fake lashes, simply just old school.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place while roaming around Abbot Kinney. Glad we stopped by!! Got their chocolate old fashioned donut and it was so damn good I also really liked their nitro cold brew. I drink my coffee black and usually cold brews are so acidic but this one was perfectly balanced. Downside is there's no restroom (old man problems) so kinda hard to stay and people watch while enjoying your coffee. It's in a perfect spot to people watch.

Yelp
Blue Star has some really cool donuts that pair fruit flavors with different herbs and spices. Favorites are Raspberry Rosemary Old Fashioned and the Blueberry Bourbon Basil. Apple Cider Fritter is awesome too, and I don't see it out too often, so try to get one if you do!

Yelp
I remember liking Blue Star donuts while in Portland, so I'm glad I finally got to check out the la location. Around 2 on Wednesday, they were sold out of blueberry bourbon and crème brûlée. I got a matcha lime crumble ($6.50) and a raspberry rosemary old-fashioned ($5.75). I couldn't taste the lime in the matcha one, but maybe it's my tastebuds. The cake itself was perfect. Unfortunately, the raspberry one's cake base was drenched in oil. It soaked most of the bottom (and a bit of the side) of the box! The raspberry flavor was strong and delicious though. I preferred the Raspberry one and would get that again (fingers crossed it's not as oily as this one). Both donuts were better in quality than your average donuts; mainly for me is that they don't have that weird aftertaste regular donuts have. The employee helping me was attentive and helpful. Contrary to some reviews, blue star is not a vegan donut shop while some donuts they offer are vegan. I believe you can check on their website. I do think they are a bit overpriced but with the overhead fees likely being high, it's understandable. I wouldn't get them on a regular basis but as a treat once in a while. I'd definitely return to try other donuts while I'm in the area.

Yelp
Cool find! Stumbled across this donut shop while browsing at abbot kinney. They have freshly baked donuts. Their old-fashioned donuts were delicious and had the perfect bite. Not dense. Their og flavor -- blueberry bourbon and basil is a hit! Love that they have vegan options. Blueberry bourbon and basil: $3.75

Cassie T.

Yelp
It's a tendency of mine to pass by donut shops and purchase two, three, or more on somewhat of a whim for my family. Donuts aren't our number one dessert of choice, but we always appreciate a high-quality donut with a nice flavor (not too sweet, but balanced with great dough). Blue Star was no exception! It's a beachy spot with a lovely logo and shop that's sweet and simple inside and out. Hands down, their sugar & spice donut is my favorite of the vegan donuts! The orange olive oil was a nice refresher from my usual go-to's (I LOVE olive oil in desserts)--it was recommended by the lovely lady at the counter when I visited. I really enjoyed the service, atmosphere, and donuts here! I wish I can come more often!

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Wooaahhhh......the amount of deliciousness in these donuts is unreal. Creme broulee was heaven sent! We were on the hunt for creme brulee donuts ansld this shop didn't disappoint. Parking was a bit difficult but we found a spot close by. Should've parked further though to walk off those donuts!!

Yelp
Stumbled in here with a friend who's been wanting to try this place, I unfortunately had a croissant for breakfast I wasn't very enthusiastic until I saw all the unique flavors that they had available and that they also had vegan as well as gluten-free. The flavors that they have are just not what one would be a custom to finding at a donut shop. The prices also match the creations of the flavors I'd say. I believe the single donut that I got was $5.75 Now, I have been to some trendy donut shops but this one takes the cake as far as display. I felt like I was in a fancy jewelry store. The donut that I selected was not taken from underneath or nearby where it was on display however it was brought in a box and hand delivered to me around the kiosk from where I ordered by a gentleman and wished me a great day. I'd say their customer service is worth five dollar donuts most certainly. Thanks guys!!!

Winnie L.

Yelp
Pro-tip: Go early if you want more options. The buttermilk donuts are supreme and the yeast ones are almost too dense and chewy in my opinion. Highlights: The buttermilk donuts hit differently here because there's a really nice crystalized layer (probably oil and sugar) but it gives a really great texture to the donut especially combined with the glaze. Lowlights: While the flavors are creative, I think they fall short in terms of execution because it's really hard to taste the flavors. The yeast donuts are not soft and pillowy like a krispy kreme donut but more tough and dense like a brioche which I personally don't prefer.

vahn b.

Yelp
This was a complete let down Over priced and not worth the money The berry doughnut lack flavor and was chewy in texture Also the apple fritter tough to chewy.

Yelp
Coming from the Midwest where we have great bakeries I feel like I'm a donut connoisseur - these donuts are outstanding. Blue Star has several locations in Oregon and Venice is the only California location. It's a small walk up with about 15-20 different donuts flavors. Single donuts are displayed well in the case. If there's a like out the door, don't worry, it's a small store and the line moves quickly. I couldn't decide on which donut I wanted but the staff kindly helped me decide. They are on the pricey side ($5 ea) but very much worth the price! The donut flavors are both unique and common. I had the blueberry bourbon basil (brioche) donut. The donut was so soft and spring-y, light and fluffy. And the flavor heavy on the blueberries- I'm not sure I noticed the bourbon or basil flavor specifically - or it's because all of the flavors just blended so well. I guess I enjoyed it too much and ate it too fast! My daughter had the chocolate bergamot old fashioned. I highly recommend that one. An old fashioned is a heavier donut (buttermilk cake) but so good. It seems they use the Dutch process cocoa as the flavor was smooth and not bitter. They had at least one donut that was vegan (orange olive oil) which was very tasty. My daughter was at first apprehensive, (how would the olive oil affect the flavor? It's VEGAN - will it be dry?) She loved it - it was moist and had a very balanced flavor.

Yelp
I had been meaning to try this spot for a number of years. We were fortunate enough to have some time to hang around the area since it was early in the morning. They have very creative flavors and combos. Most importantly, every one of the donuts we ordered were hearty and tasty. They say you eat with your eyes. Well, the descriptions alone could have filled my belly!

Beau G.

Yelp
This marks my second visit to your establishment within the past year, and unfortunately, on both occasions, you were closed during normal business hours. On my most recent visit, it seemed there was an issue with the plumbing. If your business is this inconsistent, I would strongly suggest implementing a more effective communication strategy, such as real-time updates on your website and social media platforms. Love the donuts, but this is very frustrating and a waste of time.

Yelp
I might have found the best vegan cake doughnut place in LA! We were shopping on Abbot Kinney and randomly decided to pick up doughnuts to go. I quit dairy since my husband is allergic to it, so we eat vegan when it comes to sweets. They only had 3 vegan flavors today and we, of course, got one of each. Especially, the Orange Olive Oil doughnut was tremendous... This flavor easily made it to my top 3 best vegan doughnuts I've ever had in my life. The chocolate one is also great with a little spicy kick. I bet the regular doughnuts could be even better if they can make a vegan version this good. I can't wait to try 2 other vegan flavors soon!

Kaiser S.

Yelp
This is a dessert place with most items masquerading as donuts. A donut is a portable, hand-held breakfast pastry. A donut does not include cayenne pepper or liqueur. So if you're craving a donut, even if you like unusual flavors, there are only a few actual "donuts" here - the Old Fashioneds, in chocolate-earl grey, lemon poppyseed, and raspberry. There might be a few others that qualify as donuts, but they looked really dry and/or were coated in a stiff hard "frosting" (no, donut frosting should be soft enough to be dentable with a finger tip, but not so soft it slides off the donut). They also really overdo it on the powdered sugar topping on a few of their items, so prepare to cough a lot if you try one of those and have water handy. A lot of what's presented here as "donuts" are sit-down, knife-and-fork items. The chocolate valhrona is really gooey and the toppings fall off. The icing is way too heavy for the dough and it sticks on the paper and your fingers before dissolving the rest of the donut. It's very annoying to me that so-called donut professionals have not considered the donut-eating experience of their customers. Very expensive and will generally not hit the spot if you are seeking to satisfy a donut craving. I wish there were decent regular donut places around, but they seem to all be weird shit like this or dried-out flavorless crap at the little donut marts that used to do quality stuff.

Julia F.

Yelp
The customer service is great and I love how creative these donuts are tasty Cute nice ambiance

Paul H.

Yelp
Blue Star's crème brûlée donut is the greatest donut of all time. It's a highlight on the company's site. It ain't cheap, but it's worth every dollar. I wanted to earn that donut, so during my recent stay on the west side, I decided to walk to the shop in Venice. It's three miles round-trip. I got to Blue Star not long after it opened and didn't see a single crème brûlée donut in the case. I asked if there were any coming out, and the employee told me they didn't make those anymore, but had a (insert the name of a different crème brûlée-like donut here) replacement. I said I'd try it. She said they didn't have any and wouldn't be making any. So I bought three pretty basic donuts for $18.00 and disappointedly started my return trip. Why advertise a donut that you don't make? What's the point of that level of disrespect for your customers?

Jackie C.

Yelp
Their nitro cold brew is absolutely delicious. It had a nice creamy texture and foam like a beer. The hint of sweetness definitely made the coffee full circle. Its a refreshing drink on a hot day to compliment their donuts. Highly recommend this combo.

Aaron G.

Yelp
Good service on late Sunday morning. Chocolate Old Fashion was right combo oh crunch on outside with soft doughy texture inside.

Yelp
Best gourmet donuts in LA area! Favorites: Orange Olive Oil (must try), Blueberry Bourbon Basil, Chocolate Almond Ganache, Lemon Poppy Old-Fashioned

Sarah E.

Yelp
Let me begin this review with saying I HATE donuts. Like HATE. However, if all donuts tasted like THESE donuts????? They would be my favorite food. I originally walked into blue star donuts in search of a latte... while the coffee menu is VERY limited, the donuts more than make up for the lack of a lavender oat milk latte These donuts are stellar and the standard to which other donut places should be held. My sister and I bought two chocolate ganache, one orange olive oil, one old fashioned and one OG. Each one was better than the last. The chocolate ganache was thick and dark with a light sprinkling of almonds. The donut itself was a light raised donut. Together have a similar texture/taste to a marshmallow dipped in chocolate fondue. As a chocolate addict, this hit all of the marks! (I am curious what the ganache would taste like on top of the chocolate old fashioned. ) The olive oil orange donut sounds like it would be strange or oily, but the olive oil makes a really lovely light, chewy texture. It tasted like a gourmet powdered sugar donut. The classic old fashioned was delicious. Light with lots of craggily crunch fried bits! Absolutely the gold standard of old fashioned donuts. The OG raised donuts had a light cinnamon horchata flavor... these are flavors that I sometimes have trouble with... cinnamon can taste like eating a Christmas wreath if not done right... but boy, was this done right! The texture was light biting into an angel food cake. Absolutely delicious! You NEED these donuts. Like... NEED.

Arely Z.

Yelp
By far the most underrated donuts in LA! Fluffy unique flavors. Only thing is they don't offer any allergen friendly donuts but I guess it's worth it cuz they're so good

Skylar F.

Yelp
We've been eating here and this is my favorite doughnut shop in all of Venice. My favorite flavors are the OG, the Blueberry Bourbon Basil and the Chocolate Almond Ganache but everything is so good. There are also two types of donuts, the regular and the old fashioned. The old fashioned ones are thicker and more filling. I personally think are best enjoyed with a coffee. My only piece of advice is to go early because this location does sell out pretty quickly, especially on the weekends.

Eriny R.

Yelp
I was on abbot Kenny when I spotted this doughnut spot. With no knowledge and background about the place, I walked right in. I was craving something sweet and I'm a doughnut lover so of course I walked in. I got the old fashion buttermilk. I knew this wasn't a fresh doughnut after the first bite. Yuk. It was so hard and crumbly. I'm very disappointed as a doughnut lover at how my visit went. Spending $7 on a doughnut means I should have gotten a tasty doughnut. Very disappointing.

Yelp
I've been meaning to write this review since National Donut Day. I know, forever ago right?!? I mean, I didn't even know there WAS such a thing as "NDD" until I walked in the bakery and was greeted with "Happy National Donut Day, what can I get you?" I asked if the guy was serious (in a bewildered, not snotty way) because I literally NEVER knew. He told me it was indeed a real thing and asked if I had been to Blue Star before. Nope! This was my first time :) Music was playing, he was dancing around and in a very cheery mood which was the best part of my visit to the bakery! I told him I was on my way to the Ray Ban store when my naughty old sweet noticed Blue Star Donuts which meant... I HAD to go inside. The trays weren't stocked up with lots of donuts as a matter of fact, it looked pretty sparse however, each tray had a least one on display. I told the baker that I liked chocolate and especially liked custard filling but, no go on that. They had nothing filled with custard and/or covered in regular (not dark) chocolate - insert sad face. I wasn't really impressed with the flavors they offered but I did notice one choco-covered cutie and asked if he liked that particular flavor. He advised it was dark chocolate and was pretty strong so... if I didn't like dark, I may want to go with something else. Unfortunately nothing else looked tasty so I chose the choco w/almond sprinkles crossing my fingers that it would be derrishiss. I paid $4.75, left a $2 tip and walked outside to get busy with my purchase. Upon first bite, the cake wasn't as moist (hate that word) as I was expecting it to be and he was right, the frosting packed a punch! I'm thinking the almond were roasted because they were REALLY hard, also not what I was expecting. I can confidently say I'll never get this flavor again, lol. It was way too much flavor -and crunch- for me. I love me some super moist (cringe!) donuts and this one sadly didn't check any boxes. I now know this is a "gourmet donut" spot, and they feature not-so-regular flavors. This dark chocolate covered donut may have been a much better experience with a scoop of ice cream on top to soften the blow of the intense flavor as well as soften up the donut *just a thought. I suppose I'm a regular old gal who prefers the regular old "basic" donuts. What can I say, I like what I like. Two stars for the cheery employee, one star for his dance moves :)

Yelp
*pre-COVID review* Blue star is a location I got to whenever I am in the area. I don't visit looking for a meal, but rather a flavor experience. Service is always prompt since it is donut store, though deciding on a flavor for yourself may take longer. I'm a huge fan of locations that offer seasonal and unconventional flavors, so Blue Star hits the spot. I think the donut texture itself is just okay; it's an average donut and many are cake donuts, so be weary if the denser texture is not for you. I appreciate the flavor combinations different from the traditional chocolates and maples. Some of my favorites are the raspberry buttermilk, lemon poppy, passion fruit cocoa nib, mexican hot chocolate and blueberry bourbon basil. I've also had the matcha but I think it does not offer as much depth in flavor compared to others. I would definitely visit this location again just to try whatever they offer that day.

Maddy Z.

Yelp
Stopped by on a Wednesday morning and all flavors were still there so we had our pick! We got the Blueberry Bourbon Basil, Strawberry Mojito Old Fashioned, and Passion Fruit Cocoa Nib. I am not a fan of spicy+fruity flavors, and we did not realize cayenne came on the passion fruit donut, so this one was our least favorite of the bunch but delicious nonetheless. Then the blueberry bourbon basil was our next fav, the blueberry and basil are the most prominent flavors in this one. I loved the strawberry mojito the MOST! Their old fashioned donuts are soooo crisp and the glaze gets into every crevice of the donut love! Definitely will have to try more flavors from Blue Star!

Dover B.

Yelp
I was super disappointed in this place. I was hoping it was going to be good from all the hype. I got the lemon poppy seed, and the chocolate peppermint old fashioned. The taste of both of the donuts were ok, they weren't really that exciting to me. Both donuts were oily, and had parts of it crunchy, something I'm not accustomed to having donuts that are oily or crunchy without toppings. It just wasn't a great experience, and for $4 a donut. It wasn't really worth it. I'm thinking they just had an off day.

Lindsay H.

Yelp
I got the Chocolate old fashioned donut and it definitely hit the spot for me. Every time we are in the area I like to go here. It's small on the inside and you can't eat it in there. You have to take it to go.

Rachel M.

Yelp
When I went to Portland a few years ago, I fell in love with Blue Star Donuts. Since then, I just forgot there were Los Angeles locations. I was also distracted by our own share of excellent donut shops like Sidecar and Randy's. The quality of these donuts was as good as I remembered. The glazes and texture of the soft brioche raised donuts are why I had to order my old favorites like The O.G (5 stars) and Chocolate Almond Ganache (5 stars). I was surprised how much I liked the Passion Fruit Cocoa Nib (5 stars) with its spicy kick. They also have great variations on the Buttermilk Old-Fashioned. The Raspberry Rosemary Buttermilk (5 stars) is my new favorite because of the delicious balance of raspberry and subtle rosemary. I enjoyed the classic flavors like the Lemon Poppyseed Buttermilk (4 stars). The Chocolate Buttermilk Old-Fashioned (3 stars) was drier than the other donuts, but the chocolate flavor was good. My husband liked the Apple Fritter (2 stars) and Blueberry Cake (3 stars), but they're just not my go to donut flavors. Their website says that they have reduced donut production due to the pandemic. They safely make and prepare your donut order if you order in person or online. The 5 star favorites and 4 star service are why I come back to indulge in these treats.

Justin L.

Yelp
Portland has blessed us with so many good eateries (OG Pancake House, Old Spaghetti Factory, Salt & Straw, Voodoo). Blue Star is another PDX import, a chain offering gourmet doughnuts with unique flavors. From first glance, yes the doughnuts are pretty. But it only took one bite to see past the façade. They weren't bad doughnuts at all, but they weren't as tasty as I hoped. A bit of a let down. The storefront is along Abbot Kinney, between San Juan and Aragon. Couple doors down from Sweetfin Poke / Kreation, and across from The Butcher's Daughter. I did get lucky with parking this time around, there was a spot behind in the residential area and then I just walked over. Otherwise, try street parking or one of the lots. It's super tiny inside; with social distancing only like 2-3 people can be inside. No line when I came by at noon on a weekend. On display are about a dozen flavors available for purchase. Was surprised they didn't have Blueberry Bourbon Basil, that's their popular one. There are a couple old fashioned cake doughnuts with various glazes, ordinary cakes ones, and brioche raised that are glazed. Prices range from $3.25 - $4.75 each, with the majority around $3.75. Expected, but it's still steep. Good - Chocolate Almond Ganache, so decadent. Wish I tried Mexican Hot Chocolate! In general, the brioche raised ones were pretty solid except Maple Bacon, the bacon bits weren't too satisfying. OK - OG, It was really cool to try the Orxata Glaze. The horchata flavor was interesting, but I prefer a regular glaze. Eh - The cake doughnuts just fell flat. I hate to bring up Sidecar, but if I wanted to waste money on doughnuts, it would be on Sidecar cake doughnuts. Again, not bad doughnuts. But in a city known for having too many good doughnut shops, Blue Star just pales in comparison.

Rae A.

Yelp
Another gem from Portland. I was eager to order a donut (although some flavors were already sold out on a Friday afternoon?) We shared the classic glazed and it was delicious. It had very crispy exterior and dense and cake like inside. It reminded me of a Sidecar, but it was special in its own way. It's on Abbot Kinney so you'd have to find street parking. I was interested in their other donuts, but I'll just have to come back for that.

David L.

Yelp
What happened here? I first had blue star in nwest Portland a few years back.Plenty of fresh donuts there.Hard apple fritter was my fav. We stopped in at 2pm today and there was no inventory and the fritter isn't on the menu here. What's up?

Quinn V.

Yelp
Crappy customer service. Two dudes were just standing there chatting behind the counter while I was waiting for them to acknowledge me. No greeting. Nothing. Had to wait for them to finish talking. Then someone walked in behind me and they started talking. I just walked out.

Adrienne F.

Yelp
I prefer bluestar donuts over all the other newbies because of the flavors and texture and they are always fresh and not oily tasting. I havent been in a while but will be back soon. Also the workers are super sweet.

Barbara S.

Yelp
As a fan of buttermilk donuts, this my favorite place for years for that type of donut. Highly recommend the Lemon Poppy Buttermilk!

Sunny B.

Yelp
I love their donuts and it's hard not to have a poppyseed donut every time I walk by. So many fresh baked treats....

Theo T.

Yelp
If you are in the area and you don't get Blue Star Donuts, I will honestly have to give you a strange look. These are the perfect little snack for any occasion. Whether you want something sweet, salty, sour or dipped in chocolate; Blue Star has got your back! In all honesty, I am not a huge fan of sweets or donuts, but when I'm in the area, I gotta get my fix! I always get the Lemon Poppy Buttermilk Old-Fashioned and my husband gets the Maple Bacon. We are NEVER disappointed when we get our hands on these delicious donuts. They have a perfectly creamy cake-like texture with tart, but not too sweet glaze. Yum! And the Maple Bacon is to die for! The perfect blend of sweet, salty, and a little meaty! Can't wait to get my hands on my next donut!

Kristine T.

Yelp
This place had been sitting on my list for quite some time so we decided to try it since we were in the area. SERVICE - There was only one man working and he seemed to be very efficient. DONUTS - I got the lemon poppyseed and thought it was a fantastic flavor. It had a nice tart lemon flavor but still sweet due to the the icing. The donut itself was crispy on the outside but soft once you bit into it. I usually love soft donuts like Krispy Kreme so I was unsure about the crispiness but it was good. Nice place to try one but very pricey for a single donut.

Katherine M.

Yelp
Delicious cake doughnuts!!! Will definitely be back for more! Abbot kinney is an amazing place to spend your morning or early afternoon!

Jimmy P.

Yelp
A gem from Portland, Oregon. Donut styles range from the classic glazed to the unique crispy exterior, with a dense, cake-like interior. A hint of sweetness with a chewiness on each bite, the texture is quite unique in its own way. The only downside is that the price is a bit on the more expensive end, so it'll cost you a pretty penny for a single donut compared to their competitors.

Yelp
TLDR: out of the eight donuts I tried, my favorites were probably the orange olive oil and the chocolate old fashioned. Honorable mention would be the passionfruit cocoa nibs. If there's one donut you're gonna get I'd recommend the old fashioneds. They're super crunchy and delish. Wish the blueberry bourbon basil and the apple brandy crumble were in stock but :\ raspberry rosemary old fashioned. very crunchy deep fried goodness, slightly tart, may have touched the passionfruit. on second taste... kinda tasted like the smell from drilling holes into lumber... lmao. passion fruit cocoa nib: very VERY tart! amazing passionfruit flavor. can be overpowering for some probably. old fashioned chocolate: very crunchy deep fried goodness. AMAZING chocolate flavor. it tastes like the oreo cookie p much. it was smokey / toasty flavored. orange olive oil: very sugared.. crunchy texture. pleasant but like sand? but pleasant. very floral, orange flavored. nice chew to the cake too. OG glazed: not... much flavor. good chew or Q. tastes like the orange... might have touched it. did not taste like horchata or rice or... like the description? lemon poppyseed old fashioned: very crunchy deep fried goodness. very tart, good lemon flavor old fashioned glaze: very crunchy deep fried goodness.... uhhh. very... vaniley? or something mexican hot chocolate: slightly bitter chocolate, not even spicy, tastes like mexican hot chocolate. more... spice flavored than spicy. pretty moist.

Yelp
Had one of each! Soooooo good. Old fashioned by far the winner but all were delicious.

Yelp
The people who work here are so kind. Best vegan donuts & regular donuts in town. Stopped here on my way to work to get a specialty donut for my manager's birthday, was in and out in no time, & had to get one for myself to have on my commute in, as well. Needless to say, my manager loved it & was very happy to see the box on her desk! The team started whispering about Blue Star donuts & how they're better than the rest. I feel good about supporting independent shops like this one instead of the Dunkin' donuts of the world. Shop local and keep guys like this at their Abbot Kinney storefront!

Yelp
A local branch of Blue Star that's very consistent with the original in Portland. I revisited a handful of their classic signature flavors including Blueberry Bourbon Basil, Passion Fruit Cake and Chocolate Almond Ganache. While the quality of ingredients is exceptional and immediately evident in each doughnut (especially the tartness of that passionfruit!), the brioche dough is noticeably on the drier side compared to traditional yeast doughnuts.

Yelp
These are so yummy. Unlike any other donut, BSD are not greasy, and they are definitely a heavier dough. Not your average donut shop

Yelp
I finally tried their donuts! I'd been wanted to try their donuts to compare to other donuts I've tried. I got raspberry bourbon and OG, and other flavors I wanted to try were sold out. But I was so disappointed... Their donuts are so greasy, the both glazed are just too sweet and the flavor is weird, and $4.45/each on Door Dash?! Krispy Kreme is better than their donuts!! I don't understand why people like their just greasy overly sweet glaze... But now I know I will never go back here, and I'm going back to Sidecar Donuts near my place in Santa Monica, they have the best fresh gourmet donuts!!
