"Planning a birthday dinner when you’re married with kids and your in-laws are in town usually means you’re just ordering pizza and staying home. BLVD Steak is proof better options exist. This upscale spot in Sherman Oaks isn’t doing anything wildly different than other classic steakhouses in LA, but it’s executing the formula better. Plushy green banquettes and black paneled walls give the dining room a sleek, members-only feel without being intimidating. Martinis arrive icy and smooth (with a shaker for additional pours) and thick cuts of red meat are cooked perfectly medium rare. "This fancy Sherman Oaks steakhouse has multiple options for hosting your big family dinner (which originally started at four people, but now includes three cousins and an aunt who’s not really your aunt). There are long communal tables and plush circular booths in the main dining room, a gigantic back patio, and an all-glass private dining room if you’re looking to go even fancier. As for food, you’re at a restaurant with “steak” in its name, so don’t get cute with your order. "A meal at BLVD Steak can work out nicely for a Monday night, which is when street parking on Ventura Boulevard is far easier to come by. Reservations can be wide open in the early weekdays, a boon for those who want a fancier steak dinner early in the week. The patio is spacious, but the dining room can also be a key spot to dig into the dry-aged 42-ounce tomahawk steak, spaghetti and wagyu meatballs, a whopping seafood tower, Maine lobster tail, and the caprese martini with a sidecar of mozzarella." - Rebecca Roland
