Super chill German bar in the South Park neighborhood of San Diego. The interior is beautifully designed. Lots of nice little detail. Perfect lighting. Beer choice is spectacular. A cool mix of Old school European beer with California beers. The wine selection is top notch as well. The prices are about average for the area. The food came out quick and was very tasty. The service is always friendly and efficient. My only complaint is that the music has always been just a tad too loud. A great addition to a great neighborhood. Really has the local gathering place feel to it.

I got to check out this place on their grand opening night. There was a line to get in. We waited for about 15 min to get in and then there was a line to order beer. It was packed but their beer and food were worth the wait! 👍🏼 Bock has 35 + beers on tap and their kitchen serves up delicious German bites such as pretzels, bratwursts, schnitzel and much more. My absolute favorite is Chicken schnitzel sandwich. The chicken was fried to perfection…tender, crispy and full of flavor. I liked the bratwurst as well. The portion was good for a reasonable price. Last night was also an Underberg party. I wasn’t a huge fan when taking it as a shot but it’s awesome when it’s mixed with @mommenpop for a “Mommenberg”. 🍹It was sweet, refreshing and bubbly! I can’t wait to go back for more and grab a few 🍺

Google
European beer bar concept, focused on German lagers, Belgian sours, and the American versions of these styles with a few hoppy beers mixed in. Over 30 taps, all seemingly hand-picked and very rare within the U.S., some of which I wouldn’t expect to make the trip across the ocean. Expensive but that’s to be expected with the unique options available. $9 for a .3L of Schlenkera Erle is pretty reasonable all things considered. Also a stellar wine list with a focus on regions from which the beers originate. The food menu from the kitchen around the corner from the bar is seriously good. Well-priced and some generous portions. Can’t go wrong with any choice, everything we had was delicious. Overall, a special experience and worth the trek. Busy for their first weekend and I’m sure they’ll stay busy, even in a challenging environment.

Google
This place is well worth the hype. The beer selection is over the top. Something for everyone. The service is astounding. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Now let's talk about the food. Stellar. My partner said it was the best German they'd had outside of Germany. High praise! We'll be back, plenty and often.

As a longtime fan of Hamiltons, it’s a bit bittersweet to visit a bar that now stands on the charred remains of its legacy. But Bock quickly won me over. The atmosphere is lively, the bartenders are both friendly and knowledgeable, and the beer selection is impressive—especially for fans of Russian River (and yes, there's more than just Pliny!). The kitchen deserves props too. Service was quick and the food hit the spot. The pretzel and schnitzel were a hit at our booth. Whether you're there to geek on great beer or just unwind with friends, Bock delivers a fantastic experience that continues for decades.

Google
I wish I could leave separate reviews for beer and food. We enjoyed 4 German beers which were superb! Bartender was a character and fun to chat with. Beer selection & quality is 5/5. Atmosphere is a perfectly chill beer-hall vibe. All the Barsmen I spoke with had delightful accents from across the pond. I will be here regularly. Now for the food…. Pretzel with beer cheese and mustard 2/5 *movie theatre quality pretzel w/ good mustard and mediocre beer cheese Potato salad 1.5/5 *no salt, celery overpowered the dish. If trying to compliment the German vibes, pickled-something would be better than celery filler. Food providers: Please please please give me incentive to change my review from a 4 to a 5!

Google
Bock, the new bar in South Park, is an absolute gem. As someone from Bavaria, I can say this place truly captures the essence of a German beer bar. The beer selection is top-notch, featuring rare Bavarian brews you’d typically only find back home. They also have an amazing wine selection, making it a great spot for more than just beer lovers. The food is just as impressive—perfectly executed bratwurst, pretzels, and schnitzel that taste authentic and delicious. The vibe is incredible—fun, welcoming, and full of energy. There are games to play, and the attention to detail is clear in every aspect of the bar. You can tell the owners put real thought into creating an authentic experience. Bock is a must-visit, and I can’t wait to make it a regular spot.

After Blair tossed a match and burned Hammilton's down (before fleeing the state), Bock was resurrected from the ashes. My first trip yesterday was a great time. Very clean lines and well appointed, we had a great experience. The schnitzel Sammy was large and delicious. I had 3 beers, all from clean lines, clean glassware and very tasty. 100% must visit.

Yelp
Okay, one obvi comes here for the beer selection but what one found out, is that they have a falafel wrap that is probably one of the best that you'll have! It's so perfectly moist (sorry to y'all that cringed, there's no other way to describe it!). It's delicious! Pretzel? Bomb. Better with the beer cheese than the mustard I think but both options are amazing (or dip in both if you're feeling wild! Such a variety of drinks whether you're feeling a little more on the fruity or light side or want something darker and heavier, they have so much. A beer/drink for everyone! A little dark and moody in there but such a cool little spot to hang. Staff? Super friendly and funny. Person at the front was kind and so adorable and even the chefs I can peep past the host were cheery, all the way to the bartender on the other side. Definitely will be coming back! Also folks -- be smart. Take an Uber. Parking isn't the greatest as is and just be safe. K, thanks.

Yelp
Second time around and this chicken schnitzel still hits like a freight train. Perfectly crispy, juicy chicken stacked with fresh lettuce, tomato, onions, and a slather of creamy, tangy sauce that ties it all together like a German beer garden symphony. The bun's soft yet sturdy, holding it all together like a champ. Fries are golden, salty, and addictive. Washed it down with a Tannenzapfle Pils Verdict? Confirmed: this sandwich is straight-up fire.

Yelp
I've been to Bock several times now and enjoyed each experience. It's a little loud, surprisingly dimly lit, and always packed. It's a bar! For adults only! With great beer on draft! And Biersal, their food partner, has delicious vegan food options! With a well curated beer list of Old World (German, Belgian, etc) and New World (CA brewery dominant) offerings, most any beer drinker will find something they love. For the non-beer folks, they also offer a selection of nice European wines, cider, seltzer, and even kombucha. They even have N/A options for the young, sober kidz. As vegans, we really appreciate the thoughtful vegan options, clearly marked on Biersal's menu. The vegan bratwurst is fabulous! The grilled Beyond brat is topped with sauerkraut, whole grain mustard, and pickled red onions, and it's served in a toasted bun. We've also ordered the zucchini falafel wrap, a hearty, veggie forward option with a surprising kick of spice. The fries are of course delicious, and the potato salad (vegan as is) packs a vinegary punch. The vegan currywurst is delicious too. We've also come here with friends who are gluten-free, and they too have been kindly accommodated by the Biersal kitchen - just ask and they'll hook you up. They have a weekday happy hour (Monday - Friday, 3-5pm) which I have yet to enjoy. Also know that seats are first come, first served, and they don't take reservations. I wouldn't recommend this place for a group bigger than six people, and even then there are only a few tables that will seat all of you. But hey, it's a bar, and this is what bars are like. Go with the flow and enjoy yourself! Prost!

Yelp
My sons had been here before and thought it was a place we would enjoy. We did! It's a very interesting spot. My son said it was exactly like places he frequented in Germany. There are wooden booths and games to play at your table. The menu is small and there are different offerings on different days. We had the schnitzel sandwich, hot dogs, pretzels and of course beer. Everything was great. One more thing, this is a bar first then restaurant. They take 21 and up seriously and would not allow an infant in a stroller. They do allows dogs though! All good.

Yelp
Glad to see a German beer hall in San Diego to kind of round out the foodie scene. I didn't personally have a beer that day, but it seemed like they had a nice selection on tap. The chicken schnitzel sandwich was massive and delicious. I did not think the potato salad was really a German potato salad, it was a very creamy Americanized version of that, but it still tasted good. The interior of Bock is too dark. This seems to be by design as the few windows that they do have were closed curtain. It was also very loud in there, difficult to have a conversation. Overall though, the atmosphere was festive and enjoyable. You order your food at a little window and then retrieve it when the coaster they give you lights up. The people that work there were very good about clearing the tables which I appreciate!

Yelp
Haven't been to this spot since it was Hamilton's. So, stopped in here for a drink with the pup. Love that dogs are allowed. I had a wine which was good and my husband had a Pilsner. They have a great beer list. The bartender was friendly and the place was pretty busy. Definitely a different vibe than before which makes sense. It was brighter inside since they actually had a window open and sun was coming in! lol So it wasn't better or worse, just different. We did not get food since we were eating elsewhere but would love to try it sometime.

Yelp
Wanted to try this new South Park joint. We got beer and food. Let's start with the beer. You order in the middle of the bar. They have a great selection from breweries. A little expensive but good. This isn't necessarily a dive bar where you'll get cheap beers with cheap food. It's nicer than other dive bars in the area. As for the food: you order on the right hand-most side. Solid choices. The French fries didn't blow me away but some off their sausage selections were great! We had their sausage platter special which was 3 sausages and a side of bread and condiments. Was kinda expensive for 22 dollars. With that said, all of their sauces are homemade and were phenomenal! As for the interior. It's very vibe-y and hipster. Its first come first serve for seating. They also have a pool table in the back. Please note this is NOT the place to take a date. It is dark and tremendously loud and rather packed. Service was great - always had a bartender swinging by to pick up plates and cups. Parking wise there's street but it may take you a hot second as it's residential. All in all this is a great place to swing by and get a beer with a friend. Don't recommend for big groups or dates.

Yelp
Bock is a new German-themed beer bar that has opened together with Biersal in the South Park neighborhood. It replaced a longtime tavern that closed several years ago after a fire gutted the space. All of the seating was first come first served without any staff to assist the customers. I wasn't a fan of the layout that featured multiple booths plus spots along the bar area. I think if they want to emulate a German beer hall, then an open seating plan with long communal tables would be better suited. It was congested at each of my two visits with many folks standing along the walls to wait for a booth to be vacated. Over 30 beers were on tap, and you place an order at the middle counter with a bartender. Food was available around the corner at a different service window that was staffed by Biersal which used to be a food truck vendor. The choices seemed limited, however I hope there will be additions in the near future as the business grows. Six main items, three sides, two snacks, and one shared pretzel were the offerings. The Currywurst was my choice from the mains. The item was described online as classic Berlin style-bockwurst, caramelized onions, house curry ketchup, house curry powder with a side of fries, and house aioli. It could be prepared as vegan which I thought was nice for those who wanted it in such a style. The sausage was sliced into small pieces and covered with the onions. The curry flavor in the powder and ketchup was not strong. I liked the aioli better especially as a dip for the french fries. The positive news is that the initial customer volume has been high even with parking being all curbside in South Park. Perhaps those who had frequented the previous tavern have been waiting for this neighborhood pub to open, thus the strong demand. For now, I gave a 3.5 star rating for my experience at Bock.

Yelp
Bock in South Park is a casual but classic pub specializing in German pours with a twist of California. Street Parking is a challenge. Currently indoor only seating. The word "bock" comes from the German "Bockbier," a shortening of "Einbecker Bier," meaning "beer from Einbeck," a city in Germany. "Bock" refers to a strong, malt-forward lager beer style traditionally brewed in the fall and aged through the winter for spring consumption, characterized by its rich, malty flavors and a moderate hop bitterness. As I entered with my furbabe in tow, the place was darkly lit but filled with people. I was greeted by the guys inside, I returned the friendly greeting and proceeded to order. Not a hugh fan of beer, but slowly acclimating...I ordered a pour of the orange wine from Alsace, France. I asked the female bartender to select stemware not a mug. Bartender was nice and helpful. I was able to find a seat at a hightop counter next to the bar area to relax. This particular drink tasted familiar, as I have had it before, nonetheless it was refreshing and lovely. From observation, mostly guys were present, a sprinkle of females, and age ranges from young to mid age. A couple tv monitors, a pool table, booths and a cool bar. Wall with framed pics of goats! One third of the space is occupied by Biersal who cooks, prepares and table services the limited food menu. When my friend arrived he was famished and ordered the favs: curry wurst with fries and the chicken schnitzel sandwich. He devoured it all and liked it all. I wasn't too hungry and only tasted the fries. For a beer pub, it's among the nicest I've seen out here in San Diego. Wish they had more seating inside and outdoor seating. Also would have liked cool background music. But overall, I had a pleasant experience, BOCK gets my recommendation. Cheers!!

Yelp
The beer is amazing. The location is just a lot smaller than I though and for a Friday night it was very packed. Its hard to get a booth to sit in and even finding a place along the bar was difficult. People were lined up against the walls since there wasn't very much room to move around. I would go back but maybe during the week. Not on the weekend. I do recommend the hefeweizen and the pretzel; the butter cheese it came with was very good!

Yelp
Came in about 12:30 on Sunday for lunch. The schnitzels were very good. I think the chicken one on the sandwich edged out the pork as my favorite. The Sunday special plate was a good value even at $20. I think we'll be back for the sandwich and split it for a light lunch.
google avatar

Yelp
Lots of beer (wine is an option for those who don't enjoy beer), yummy food options, and a fun ambiance! It is on the smaller side, but my group found a table on a Friday night and even got to enjoy the pool table. Will definitely be back at this spot :)
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
Super excited that this place opened. We went on a Friday night. There was a line but it moved fast. Bartenders were helpful since we're not the most familiar with German style beers. It's got a fun vibe with pool table and shuffle board.
google avatar

Yelp
This place was cute and nice but I was very underwhelmed with the food. I wasted $30 on watery sausage that basically tasted like hot dogs. I was very disappointed as I've been to a German restaurant in Vegas and the sausage was very meaty and not watery at all. A sausage should not taste like a hot dog. I really wanted to like this place, but sadly it was very disappointing.

Yelp
Chill venue. Small, it was a little crowded, food is great and beer is delish. Bartenders were friendly too.

Yelp
What a fun place to go for great beers and food! The bartenders were very friendly and knowledgeable, and as a result, we had great beers. I highly recommend the pFriem Pale Ale; it went great with the food I ordered. The other surprisingly good beer was Donna's Pickle Beer. The flavor was very subtle, so not overpowering at all. I love that Bock Bar collaborates with Biersal, so you could also order food. I just wish they could be billed together, instead of having to order from two separate counters (small complaint). The chicken schnitzel sandwich was excellent, as was the bratwurst. The potato salad was nice and bright too, not heavy at all. And the pretzel with the obatzda - yum! Now they need a bigger space to accommodate more people. Thanks for a great experience!

Yelp
Cool spot! We went for schnitzel Sunday and the food and experience was nice. The seating/vibe was a little odd, we weren't sure what to do, but we found a table and claimed it. We did stand/sit at a dirty table for around 20 minutes before someone came and cleared it, hence why we we were confused when we arrived, but once it was cleared we had a good time. Excited to go back.

Yelp
Such a fun spot! The beers are good and the food is even better! It was really packed when we went but service was still quick. Played some pool in the corner but it was really crowded and the table is close to the wall.

Yelp
Neighborhood German bar with authentic German food. Counter type orders. A bit noisy they have a couple pool tables. Food is terrific and great selection of drinks.

Kira S.

Yelp
Really nice crowd, love the free pool, great and unique selection of beer. The service left a lot to be desired, however. Bartender was cold and seemed like he had better places to be. Didn't seem keen on answering questions about the wide selection they offer and was somewhat peeved whenever we went up to order. He also seemed bothered by the weekend crowd having a good time and playing games. Not sure if it was because we are a group of ladies, but hopefully he doesn't treat everyone this way.

Yelp
Bock is what happens when a dive bar gets a glow-up and decides it still wants to hang with the cool kids. It's giving "laid-back flannel" but with a crisp fold and some top-shelf vibes. Great beer selection, food on deck (didn't try it, but hey, there's always a second date), and the service? Spot-on friendly without being weirdly in-your-face. It's a brand new spot, so jury's still out on how it'll age, but first impressions? Pretty smooth. Bonus points for actual parking nearby South Park miracles do happen. If you want a place that feels like your favorite dive but with better lighting and less sticky floors, Bock's your move.

Yelp
Awesome German beer selection! I also tasted a couple of the wines and loved the Rose. We snagged a couple bar seats and enjoyed the chicken schnitzel and currywurst. So happy to have this little dog friendly gem!

Yelp
Very good food and bar! Really nice schitzel !We will come to try other foods definitely! Also there's 32 different beer options for try!

Yelp
Not good for groups bigger than 4 as seating is fcfs. The Padre's game was on and the menu is written with a lot of German styles. Service is friendly, quick, patient and easy to pay contactless.

Yelp
So friendly and amazing place. They have so many beer options. Plus pet friendly. Highly Recommended.

Yelp
I love this new bar. They have a great selection of German/Old World beer and domestics on tap. The German inspired kitchen serves up some awesome food. The bartenders were super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is lively but not obnoxiously loud. I'm excited that a San Diego local has taken over this spot!

Yelp
Checked out this new spot in the 1st week of opening up! Delicious beers and the food was very tasty. Haven't been able to make it back but look forward to trying some more variety that they offer...

Yelp
Excellent pub vibe in this place! The beer selection is a uniquely German / European / American combination, and the food from Biersal pairs perfectly. Friendly and knowledgeable staff too. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Bock was amazing with the ambiance and authentic beer. Hard to find a good Belgian style tripel. Also... Das boot!!

Yelp
Fantastic addition to the community! The bartenders are wonderful, the beer selection is great, nice environment and dog friendly. Enjoy a fresh and new German beer pub in beautiful South Park!

Carrie B.

Yelp
Finally got to check out the newest addition to South Park last night. Great bier selection and the bartender was really knowledgeable and friendly. I also tried some of their food: the chicken schnitzel sandwich and fries. The sandwich was not bad, but I'm not used to eating fried food so my tummy wasn't feeling super great afterwards. Fortunately, the cure for a tummy ache is another bier! I would have liked the fries to be hotter and crispier. The curry ketchup and jalapeño and lime aioli dips were a nice accompaniment, even for cold fries. I didn't realize it was a dog-friendly place which isn't necessarily a bad thing unless you are allergic or are fearful, and you do have to watch where you're walking so you don't step on a tail or paw. It would be nice if there was an outdoor area for the dogs and their owners, but one can't have it all. Overall, it's a pretty nice spot for the neighborhood and I hope to check out their happy hour soon.

Wes B.

Yelp
We went at 4:00 on a Sunday. We could see that it's probably always super crowded on weekends and would recommend weekdays might be a better time. Beers were great - everyone enjoyed their selections. Also enjoyed the food selections, but in our opinion they would be better with traditional German prep rather than American modified. Another reviewer mentioned the booth and general seating layout not being what you would expect in a German influenced place. We agree and think several open tables Oktoberfest style would be better. Service staff was friendly and very helpful. Biggest problem is volume level. Don't come here if you want to have any level of conversation.

Yelp
Been eagerly awaiting the opening of Bock for a long time now. As a former Hamiltons Tavern regular, my heart yearns to be back in this building, and even better that its been brought to life by the wonderful team behind Bottlecraft. On my multiple visits just in the first week alone, its a great, low key spot to meet with friends and cuddle up in a booth, or just quietly knock one back by yourself at the bar. Prost!
google avatar

Dave E.

Yelp
Great chill spot for a beer. They bring in some great beers other place don't get. One of the best bratwurst I've ever had from Biersal, their food partner. Can't wait to go back.

Shelby G.

Yelp
SO YUMMY! We got the falafel pita and the chicken schnitzel sandwich and they were both delicious and pretty big. Place was packed and vibe was well done! Service was great- bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable
