Bodega Canal - Review - Bullfinch Triangle - Boston - The Infatuation

"If you’re headed to the Garden and want to grab a drink and a bite before the game, but you don’t want to be in a place that has more Celtics posters on the walls than your childhood bedroom, Bodega Canal isn’t a bad option. The menu of Mexican food and cocktails gets the job done and the space looks the way you’d imagine a refurbished hotel in the Sonoran desert might." - Dan Secatore

Google
I had an incredible experience here—every dish hit the mark, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the overall vibe was top tier. You can really tell how much care goes into the food and the service. Highly recommend!

Google
Maria was AMAZING! We came at 9 pm before it turned into club vibes and it was SO fun. Good food, good vibes, good everything!

Google
We came down from Portland and wanted to grab a shot before a concert, we walked by and loved the aesthetic, and decided to pop in, but Meaghan and Jarrod behind the bar really stole the show, personable, professional and exactly what you hope to encounter when trying out a new bar, we’ll be back for sure!

Stephanie Daly

Google
Had such a good experience. Jessica was so friendly and chatty. She also offered to take pics of me and my sister. Great vibes all around.

Google
I have been here numerous times with my daughter. The food is great, the incredibly hard working staff is exceptional, and make you feel at home. Jason, Krista, Jared, Nick, JP, everyone here is so wonderful and kind. You stated Bodega is closing stating 'this will be better for the business'. How about the staff???? Did you consider how it would affect them??? I am so angry you, the owners, did this. How inconsiderate you are! Marti Booth

Google
Krista and JP treated us RIGHT! The best conversations and best drinks! 10/10 service. A gem of Boston. I WILL be coming back for sure!! Edit: Came back again about a week later! Amazing service. Got the delicious steak fajitas this time. Big thanks to Meaghan, JP, and Krista once again! Got the coconut margarita and it was to die for.

Google
Found this place last minute and it didn’t disappoint! Food was amazing and the cocktails too! We had Jessica as our server and she was so bubbly and fun! Definitely recommend!!

Google
I probably just didn't make the best choice for me, but my food was a little bland. Our service was really good and the place had a nice vibe. Ww had a larger party and were seated in an isolated location which worked out nicely as we were all able to chat.

Yelp
My favorite bar near TD Garden. It easily has the best cocktails in the area, if you're looking for something more than the dive bars found in the area. The food is also good if you're in the mood for Mexican, Most of my visits have been at night when it's more of a club than a restaurant. The music is always great and so is the crowd.
google avatar

Diana L.

Yelp
Ended up being a good place to get drinks before a concert at TD garden. Bartender was great and quickly got us our drinks and round 2 despite it being very busy. - The spicy mango margarita was delicious. - Nachos Supreme: very big so good for sharing. Very good. - Birria Tacos: on the sweeter side for my preference but tasty.

Yelp
Bodega Canal is located on Canal St, by TD Garden. Half of Bodega becomes a club/bar, while the other half is more for eating + drinks. I have been here a couple times and every time was a pleasant experience. I find it more chill and enjoyable compared to BNL, down the street. If you get bottle service, the table is not that big but can for sure fit 10 people. Music is pretty good most nights. I haven't tried the food from here yet, but doesn't look bad at all.
google avatar

Brianna L.

Yelp
We love coming here for the taco Tuesday! The tacos are filling and the service is friendly. It's a very dark place so if you have a hard time seeing in the dark I recommend using your phone for light to read the menu. The drinks are also very good!
google avatar

Emiliana O.

Yelp
Drinks were very good, 9/10 coconut marg Staff was nice, just was a private event downstairs so we had to stand by the bar
google avatar

Aliya D.

Yelp
The food was super delicious!! Definitely recommend the fish tacos and spicy mango margarita. The ambiance was also very pretty! Only drawback was that they can't really accommodate large groups. We were a group of 14 at 5:30pm and we were sat near each other but not at the same table.
google avatar

Yelp
Wait staff was good Food was very good as well Only thing after a certain hour it seems to be a social place! Weekends they said Dark and loud but if you are out to enjoy yourself this is a place to go
google avatar

Kelly R.

Yelp
I got the Baja bowl and it was truly delicious! The margs were also amazing, and they have a great tequila selection. The ratings of this place are super misleading (I think from the night life), but as a restaurant, this place is killer!
google avatar

Yelp
The ONLY reason I am not giving five stars is that it was expensive for a little amount of food. Everything else about this place is five stars. The food is DELICIOUS. The tacos were phenomenal. Extremely tasty, great toppings, lots of flavor. The waitress was able to tell me which tacos were gluten free (corn tortillas available) and was able to modify the fish and shrimp to make them gluten free (not fried). We ordered the guacamole as well and it was so fresh. The prices should really be lower as the tacos were really tiny. You only get three little tacos without any beans or rice on the side. They filled up the little tacos with a good amount of filling but for that price, they should really be larger or give you four tacos.

Yelp
Perfect spot for dinner and drinks with friends! Food is great and portions are big so sharing is always a good option. Service is ok.
google avatar

Colleen C.

Yelp
Good, fast service and quality food for a decent price. The taco salad was yummy , as was the cauliflower taco ($3 on tuesdays!). Also enjoyed the guac and queso as apps. Guac was a tiny bit bland and definitely no spice to it. Music might feel a bit loud for some but we liked the vibe.
google avatar

Vysh K.

Yelp
My Baja Bowl was decent (but a bit overpriced) and the Rosé Sangria was really refreshing (highly recommend). It's usually pretty loud here if you have a dinner reservation; wouldn't recommend for a date if you want to hear what the other person is saying. The service is usually decently speedy & the waiters are really accommodating!

Jillian C.

Yelp
Loveddd the food so good. Service was good. Definitely a younger crowd. Tacos were amazing
google avatar

Isha R.

Yelp
Trendy spot for dinner & drinks, and a really fun vibe with friends or on a date. The food is great! I especially love the Baja bowl and Mexican street style corn. The portions of the bowls are somewhat small so make sure you also order apps. The drinks are delicious too - the coconut marg is the best! Skinny margs (which aren't on the menu) could be better.

Chris F.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. One of best margaritas in Boston. Good guacamole and tacos. Always good service

Yelp
Food was decent but very expensive for what it is. We started with the birria quesadilla and the street corn. The birria quesadilla was good but nothing special and definitely not worth $18 for an appetizer sized quesadilla. The street corn was a super inconsistent temperature with some bites being actively cold which was a bummer. For mains we shared the fish and shrimp tacos, both of which were again decent but nothing special. The fish itself was cooked well and was nicely crispy, but the taco left something to be desired by way of flavor. The shrimp tacos on the other hand had so many different flavors that you could hardly taste the shrimp, although again the shrimp itself was pretty good. The atmosphere of the place was pretty cool with nice architecture and lighting fixtures. However the music in here was so loud that we could hardly hear each other (we came at 7:30pm so still well before the transition from dinner to nightlife) and most people had to yell to hear one another, which made the noise level even worse. I think this place could be fun for a drinks and snacks type situation, but it wasn't a great spot for dinner. My chair was also a bit broken where the joints would come apart if I leaned back on the backrest, but I assume this isn't the case for all their chairs. A bright side is that our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Our food came quickly and our water jug was refilled pretty much as soon as it became empty, which I always appreciate. Overall a decent meal but for the price of this place you could do a lot better.

Mary P.

Yelp
So upset. I have celiac and ordered a cheese quesadilla. Came out clearly not gluten free (someone else in my party ordered a non gf cheese quesadilla , they looked identical), so I asked the waiter. He said not to eat my meal, so I waited 20 minutes for an actual gluten free dish to come, while the rest of my party ate their dinner. Not only was there no apology, they charged us for the gluten free quesadilla. When I asked at the end of our time dining, the server said the charge had already gone thru and he would void it "later". I know people don't care about gluten allergies for whatever reason, but as someone trying to have a baby down the line (eating gluten as a celiac causes infertility) and not get cancer I wish I was treated more respectfully. I really am so upset.

Hunter V.

Yelp
not sure why this place doesn't have better reviews because the food and drinks were great! got the birria tacos, a coconut and spicy mango marg. it's also such a cool atmosphere in here. would def recommend!

Yelp
My friends and I came in after having an unsuccessful time at another nearby bar. I enjoyed the music and decorations in their spacious setting. Drinks did the job by their friendly bartenders. Overall, we had fun and I would be interested in checking them out again.

Kate N.

Yelp
Great spot. Stopped in on a Thursday night for drinks and to watch the bruins. Our bartender Jarred was attentive and engaging, made you feel welcome. Can't wait to go back.

Sydney A.

Yelp
The food is delicious. I got the carnitas enchiladas and my boyfriend got the baja bowl with shrimp. We both commented on the delicious flavor. The carnitas were especially tender. The drinks are also yummy and reasonably priced for Boston. I love the ambiance with the pink disco lights and chandelier. Very chic.

Sanjay P.

Yelp
Excellent establishment. The service is usually good, but sometimes can be lacking. The food is delicious and the drinks (especially the margaritas and the sangria) are very good. The food is very good, especially the chicken tacos. They have fair prices that reflect the food and service. Overall, it is very worth it, especially with the ambiance and nice music they play. On the weekends they have a club environment, which I have not been to but have heard is very fun.
google avatar

Chunky C.

Yelp
Overpriced Bad drinks and bad food Terrible margaritas .. bad taste and gave me a bad headache. Ordered fish and shrimp tacos. Bare minimal tacos. Edible but definitely not worth the price Will never go back there again
google avatar

Kiana Z.

Yelp
Overall: nice ambiance for the evening, and good to try out but would try other options before a revisit Food: tasted good! But will say the price to quantity ratio was a bit high. Had to ask for extra salsa and chips as our table was 6 people and we needed more. Would recommend the chicken as a protein option Service: ok. Asked to change tables but they could not as they were "fully booked" but tables were still empty by the time we left. Had to ask multiple times for some items but appreciated the extra chips and salsa. Other: stools/seating was not comfortable and no place for jackets/bags. Had my jacket and bag on the whole time
google avatar

Conner M.

Yelp
VERY strict about their 90 minute limit, even though it wasn't stated when we made the reservation, and many tables were empty. Literally wouldn't allow us to order another appatizer with '10 minutes left' Food was good but they obviously had overbooked. Have never been asked to leave a restaurant for staying too long after only an hour and a half...

Bianca C.

Yelp
Our server, Caroline was the absolute best. She made our experience at bodega 10x better.

Belinda G.

Yelp
Food was excellent. 1800 reposado is MANIPULATED/FAKE! So disappointed. Waitress was attentive. But not ok for the tequila front!!!
google avatar

Melanie R.

Yelp
Food wasn't that great. Heard a lot of great things about the restaurant on tik tok but should have read the yelp reviews prior to coming. I agree with most of the reviewers that the food was bad. As someone who travels between Arizona and Boston a lot and has tried authentic Mexican food I can tell you this is not it. Dishes were very bland and lacked a lot of flavor. If you're looking for good vibes and fun atmosphere then you should stop by and get a few drinks but don't bother on the food.

Ms. H.

Yelp
Was there for taco tuesday and boy did we have a blast. The carnitas tacos were our fave along with the nachos. We had drinks but they were meh. Margarita wasnt good. The coco mojito was better but they progressively were bad depending on which bartender made then. I dont drink regularly at all but had 5 drinks and zero buzz. Wouldnt order drinks here again for that reason. The best was the service and vibe due to the DJ. OMG he was . We sang and danced and had a great time.
google avatar

ZhiCheng Z.

Yelp
The server kept our ID thinking it was fake. We had to cal the cops to get it back. Do not eat here. Food is trash. Service is trash! AVOID!

Michelle S.

Yelp
Food was ok but not the best, same for service. The inside of this place reminded me of the underground cave from Lost boys. Dark and distressed (intentionally distressed). our table was by the window so it was a good spot. Hubby felt the same food was ok not his favorite.
google avatar

Yelp
Made a reservation 2 weeks ago for a birthday celebration. Came on the time and date of reservation only to find out the restaurant lost our reservation. Made us wait 30 min only to be told we won't be able to dine. Called the night before to confirm reservation and manager on hand confirmed all of my details. Today we get here for the correct time and we're refused dining. That is ridiculous. My fiends birthday completely ruined; we all traveled 1.5+ hours to get here. Never coming back. As a manager in this industry this is completely unprofessional. I've never had such a horrible experience. If you can't manage your reservations; DONT TAKE RESERVATIONS. We went the extra mile the night before to confirm everything as well. What a mess. -10 stars

Yelp
Hip fun place to go with a small group of friends. The drinks were good. House margaritas and I got a Paloma which is not on the menu but they were able to make for me. The waitress was nice and attentive. The sultry vibe of the place and the beat of the music make it a fun, social place to grab a drink and a bite to eat. The food was fresh and the portions were more than adequate. The house tortilla chips served with pico, a queso type dip and tomatillo salsa were good and a nice change from the traditional chips and salsa basket. For entrees - I really like the Baja bowl with carne. There was everything you could ask for in the bowl to make a hearty meal. The chicken fajitas was a marinated sliced chicken breast but the chicken was moist and flavorful. It came with the appropriate accompaniments. The only critique of the food is that the guacamole, tomatillo salsa and pico were way over over powered with lime juice. The level of acid was biting after a while leaving your mouth feel raw from the amount of acid. Overall a good meal and a great experience.

Yelp
Bodega was a great time! Joe the bartender took really good care of me! Great hospitality and great service. I only had their carne asada tacos and wow! They weren't bad. I was a fan. Salsa was good. They reminded me of my parent's hometown tacos in San Luis Mexico. These type of tacos would be called Sonoran style. So the tacos taste reminded me of home. Only thing that bothered me was you had to order 3 tacos of the same style. I want to be able to mix and match but apparently, they only do that on Tuesdays for $1 and $2 tacos. So I will be back on a Tuesday. Tortilla did taste a bit store bought tho. Overall it was a GREAT taco! I will also be back for their hot cheetos street corn. Also a very cute scenery. Would be a perfect place to take your date to. Place turns into a night club at night in the weekend. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Great. Tacos are small. When you're tired of having Italian all the time, the next around the rotation is Mexican. Bodega Canal is tacos. Lots of tacos. Sure, there's other stuff but... tacos. They have the usual pulled chicken or pork, but then there's mushroom and al pastor and ground beef and duck confit and even octopus! I ended up doing a surf and surf and turf, ordering one fish, one shrimp and one skirt steak. Service was excellent. John was friendly and understanding of the give and take here.

Brayden M.

Yelp
After UFC 292 me and my friend found this establishment, we had a couple of drinks and then were told from a bouncer we had to leave, after just purchasing our beer because it was closing. We asked if we could finished our beer before we left and the bouncer continued to give us a hard time. As we were leaving the bar, we almost got in an altercation with the bouncer because I mentioned that the way we were treated compared to the other customers wasn't fair. We were leaving and outside, and he put his hands on me. I wasnt trying to start a fight and was doing as he said, I just thought the way we were treated was rude and when I said it as I was walking away he got in my face. As someone whos worked in the restaurant business for 7 years it was super unnecessary, even if you think what I personally said was rude. I was doing as he said, no reason to almost start a fist fight with me. Based on my experience I would suggest never going to this establishment before or after an event at the TD garden. We almost got in an altercation for no reason and it was a terrible experience. Bouncers have a responsibility to keep the peace and while I understand having to use physical force in their line of work, there's absolutely no reason to do when a customer is complying with the request and outside walking away from the establishment as asked That bouncer just needs to be better as he is a very strong looking person and could really cause physical harm to someone.

Yelp
Came here with my girlfriend on recommendation by our friends and on reading some reviews. Atmosphere - The ambiance is great with almost a speakeasy vibe to it. The lights are dim with candles lit throughout the restaurant. The restaurant has an open space with a balcony and an open floor for seating. Food - For starters, we got the Street Corn. It was probably the best thing we got here besides the drinks. It was packed with flavor and paired very well with our margaritas. As for our entrees, we got the Shrimp and Steak Fajitas. Both dishes were very bland and we thought they were lacking a lot of flavor and crunch. The shrimp was too watery to hold any of the seasoning. Service - Attention from the staff was on point and they came to us frequently to ask us how we were doing and if we needed anything. Even though we came without a reservation at peak dinner time, we were immediately seated by the hostess. All our drinks and food came in an orderly fashion with barely any delays. Overall, I would come by this place for drinks and perhaps appetizers, but I would recommend going elsewhere for food.
google avatar

Ben L.

Yelp
Stopped in for a pregame bite. Was not disappointed. Atmosphere, music, service, food, drinks and prices were excellent. Our waitress, Julianna, was excellent, very attentive, friendly and professional. Made some awesome suggestions. Had the Tacos Tuesday Special. We ordered the fish, grilled avocado, carnitas, beef and cauliflower tacos. All a good size, fresh, tasty, well prepared and delicious. Drinks were also awesome. Definitely returning to try the other items on the menu.

Kelvin K.

Yelp
The food portion was very small not worth it don't come. Didn't even taste that good.
google avatar

Olga S.

Yelp
I would definitely come here for drinks, but not for food. The margaritas were tasty and very potent, and the spicy margarita has a very defined kick. The food was good, but not amazing enough to warrant the price to portion ratio. The fajitas are definitely the way to go (both shrimp and beef looked amazing), but the tacos (we got scallop ceviche and carne asada) were teeny and not that great. The tropical guac appetizer was very tasty, as were the tequila wings. The service was blazingly fast and efficient.

Amanda B.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place but unfortunately the food was the worst Mexican I have had. The place was very dark and now I know why..... We started with Chips and ordered guacamole. Added the street corn and wings for the appetizers. The wings were the smallest wings I had ever seen! This was my first time addressing food to the waitress and wanting to send something back! The manager told us there was a wing shortage .....and that's why they put 12 in the bowl instead of 8. The wings were half the size of my pinky finger to give you an idea. He said he would comp us the wings The street corn was cold when it came out and the corn was dry. It wasn't juicy kernels like corn should be. Could have been so much better if it was hot. Drinks: we all likes out drinks. Margaritas were fantastic. Rose sangria was delicious. Cannot complain. Onto dinner: steak fajitas. The steak was medium rare as asked but it was so tough to bite when you made the taco. The other guests ordered fish tacos and shrimp tacos. Didn't hear them say much about it and they forgot to order beans and rice on the side which is an added up charge. Overall, disappointed in the restaurant and would not Recommend. There has to be more authentic restaurants somewhere !
google avatar

SruthiS P.

Yelp
The food and service was amazing! Didn't get a chance to take a picture of their corn appetizer but that's delicious too! And churros were fresh and mouthwatering, def recommend going here

Yelp
I love Mexican food and really want to find a good place here in Boston, however this place fell flat. We got chips and dip right away so I had high hopes. You get 3 different dips which was a nice variety. However, things went downhill when we ordered. The server misunderstood my friend who wanted carnitas tacos and not empanadas. Another server brought out the empanadas which we said was not the order. He walked away with them briefly and then came back and said they were on the house so I took one. Our other server came back looking annoyed, saying the erroneous empanadas were actually not on the house. Instead of apologizing for misunderstanding my friend, she stood over her and informed her she ordered the empanadas. They did agree to fix her order but thought this was all extremely rude. We were not charged for the empanadas but she was sure to take them off the table. I got the carne asadas which were spicy but overall something I could have made at home. $17 for 3 average tacos with no sides is a ripoff. The only saving graces of this place were the drinks and the guacamole. I got the rose sangria which was very strong and I thought the guacamole was prepared just right. The portion size was generous and the 3 of us did not finish it. If you want to be served drinks and guacamole with attitude this might be the place for you but I will likely not be back.

Fanny B.

Yelp
Nightlife. Do not come here if you are a poc. Literally one of the worst experiences of my life. My group and I paid $60 in total just to get in, when we got in they told us we could access the back room. To access the back room there was a line that was only letting in people that the bouncers knew and bunch of white women. THE BACK ROOM WAS LITERALLY WORSE THAN THE MAIN ROOM and they were demanding more money from group just to get in. In this line my group got called racial slurs for not allowing people to cut us. The bouncers heard it and did nothing after my group complained multiple times . Bouncers are incompetent and rude and service in general was disgustingly awful and it's not even a fun place or plays good music. Please never go here.

Yelp
Had an awesome dinner at bodega tonight! Been here before on Taco Tuesday and was somewhat disappointed but tonight's regular meal made up for its carne in our Baja bowls was perfectly cooked, taco shell on the salads was just right and we all left full. Service was awesome and so were the margs. Definitely will be back.

Yelp
Do NOT recommend. They think they are a club.m, wouldn't let me in with khaki shorts and as button up. Sorry, but you guys aren't a club. Try hards!

Yelp
Very surprised at how good the food was. The best thing about this place is that chips are free!! It also came with 3 excellent sauces. The chips are also unlimited refill. We opted to order the Queso for extra. The Queso had a weird texture and wasn't what we expected but wasn't terrible either. Very mixed feelings about it; we just liked that it was warm. There were 3 of us and we ordered the Shrimp Tacos and Pork Tacos to share (they came with 3 tacos each). Loved both of the tacos. They were stuffed with filling and left us feeling so full. The sauces in each taco is unique and we all looked up with pleasantly surprised faces after our first bites of each. The Shrimp one was my favorite!! I had no idea it turned into a nightclub later into the night but it's a great place to eat with a group of friends. Very affordable prices and attracts nicely dressed, young crowds.

Yelp
Do not spend your money here!! There are a million better restaurants in Boston, most of which do not possess the terrible customer service and unprofessionalism of this place. I called the restaurant a week in advance to book a reservation for a birthday dinner for a large group of people. I mentioned multiple times on the phone that not everyone in my party was 21 and the hostess assured me that this was not an issue at all. When I arrived at the restaurant at 8:30pm, I saw a bouncer checking ids. I informed him that I was waiting for the rest of my party to arrive but as I mentioned on the phone, not everyone is 21. We are here for dinner not to sit at the bar or go clubbing. The bouncer explained to me that after 9 pm, the place is 21+. Why this wasn't explained to me over the phone, was beyond me. I made a reservation for 8:30pm, I clearly wasn't going to be done eating by 9pm!! After much back and forth, the manager agreed to seat my party as long as we promised to be out by 10pm - I was not happy at the prospect of a rushed dinner but it was a Saturday evening and I knew there was no chance of me finding another restaurant that could seat such a big group, on such short notice, so I obliged. I sat at the bar (I, myself, am over 21) to wait for the rest of my party to arrive. The bouncer rudely approached me to inform me that even though I was of age I could not wait at the bar because someone else in my party (who hadn't even arrived yet) was not 21. I asked where I was supposed to stand and the bouncer indicated that I could stand in the corner right next to the door. Like I said spend your money elsewhere and you will be treated much better.

Yelp
Love Bodega! This is my go-to bar in Boston when I'm in town. Joe is the BEST bartender! He's friendly, attentive and efficient. The service is great, even when they are super busy.
