An Eater’s Guide to Argentina’s Mendoza Wine Region | Eater

"Anchored by an enormous parrilla in a bright, country-chic dining room at Lagarde Bodega, this Michelin-starred spot begins service with a glass of the winery's sparkling wine and offers multi-course lunchtime tasting menus. The restaurant sources goats from a cooperative in Malargüe, vegetables from its organic garden and local producers, and fruits from Uco Valley orchards; look forward to dishes like a nest of fried fennel tops that elegantly deconstructs the traditional humita." - Karen Catchpole

Fogón Cocina de Viñedo

"Here, at the Lagarde winery in Luján de Cuyo, half an hour from Mendoza, there’s a total commitment on local cuisine to complement the wine experience. Between this restaurant and Zonda, which could be described as its elder sibling, there is a strong emphasis on history, the connection with the local area, and the setting in this stunning natural paradise. Access to Fogón is via the winery’s boutique, where guests can also enjoy a tasting of food as well as wine. In the dining room, with its high ceilings and a kitchen visible at one end, you can choose between two tasting menus, both with wine pairings from the estate, plus an à la carte with a clear penchant for superb grilled Argentinian meats (ribeye, tri-tip, T-bone etc), Italian recipes (we particularly enjoyed the al dente Cavatelli pasta with lamb) and creative cuisine. It’s also possible to arrange a scenic open-air lunch here with views of the vineyards." - Michelin Inspector

The Best Way to Cook Meat, According to These Argentine Chefs

"The opportunistic chef Lucas Olcese at Lagarde Winery always has a pan of red wine Patagonian sea salt mixed with peeled garlic cloves, rosemary sprigs, extra-virgin olive oil, and beef stock ready for receiving mild-tasting cuts like tenderloin hot off the parrilla." - Jane Sigal

Good tour and overall experience! The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was lovely to see so many organic vibes in the vineyard! The wines were good, not all of them were great. The restaurant is amazing! Highly recommended. The food was delicious, they offer gluten free bread as well 👌 and the service is great!

Amazing place. We scheduled a visit and it was possible to see how careful they are with their production, there is no doubt regarding the quality of their wines. We also did an experience trying some wines and they were excellent. Nice place to visit and learn about Argentina’s wine culture.

Wonderful lunch and wine pairing at Bodega Lagarde. We truly enjoyed the meal and each wine that accompanied each course. I loved the tomato salad so much the chef packed up an extra one for me! Excellent customer service. After dessert we took our wine outside and strolled the vineyard, tasting the grapes. Phenomenal dining experience!

Wowa! What an experience!! Amazing food with beautiful, unpretentious service. Everyone in there was made to feel special, like it was their most important time tasting wine or food of this standard. Eugenia, Noelia and Laura were just so amazing and made us feel so welcome and special. Great food, beautifully paired wine. The best

Fantastic! Could not ask for a better setting and a more luxurious afternoon. The 7 course lunch was outstanding with great flavours and perfect pairings. The service was impeccable and they were very kind to indulge my preference to speak in not so great Spanish [that's is how you get better]. Wine pours were very generous. My partner had a few top ups as well [alas, I was the driver]. My all means, treat yourself to this amazing experience while in Mendoza.

Google
This is the best of the 5 wineyards I have visited so far. I did not eat here but the kitchen looks great. Concentrating on wines and price/quality is best here.

Google
Absolutely one of the best experiences! Our waiter, Jorge, and sommelier, Paula, provided outstanding service! We had the 7 course pre fixe dinner! The food was spectacular in taste and presentation and we each did a different wine pairing so we were able to taste their fabulous wines! I highly recommend Fogón at Bodega Lagarde! It is a wonderful experience!

Yelp
A classic winery to visit in Mendoza. It's one of the popular ones in the region. Very cute for a tasting, lunch, and day trip away from the city. The winery is beautiful! Literally stunning. The aesthetics are so pleasing to the eye. The staff are also very present and attentive to your needs. The food was spectacular and probably the best steak I had while in Argentina. I highly recommend this winery as a tour or on your own. Either way you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Incredible experience. It just doesnt get better than this. We spent the afternoon here for the most spectacular lunch of a lifetime. First shout our to the entire staff and our server Camilla. But I must say that Eugenia made our 3 hour lunch so wonderful. Her warmth and sense of humour and taking such good care of us was really extraordinary. And then there is the food and setting. First the vineyard garden is just picture perfect. It was like sitting in a vineyard in Tuscany. We had the four course tasing that was amaizing. The gaspacho with vegitables from their garden just great. And the steak was the best steak in all of Argentina. Eugenia made sure our glasses were never empty and the from the Rose to the Chardonnay to the malbec and the sparkling wine, all were just great. This was a meal of the lifetime what would cost ten times the price in the States.

Yelp
We are big fans of Mendoza wines. We went on a wine trip to Santiago and Mendoza this July and had a wonderful trip: awesome food and wine everywhere we went. The wine tour and grounds at Lagarde were good, our guide took us to the wine cellars, she explained how they make wine, its history, etc. We finished the tour with a visit to the garden and the olive trees. After that, we had lunch and a tasting experience at the restaurant and that was perfect. The restaurant is very pretty, lots of big windows and very elegant. Our sommelier was very nice, knowledgeable and the pourings were very generous. We started with empanadas al cuchillo and they were the delicious. After that, we all ordered the steak (When in Argentina, meat is a must) and it was possibly the best steak I have ever eaten. The portion was really big (can be shared) and the meat was very very tender, juicy, perfectly cooked and it tasted amazing. It was a perfect combination of smokiness, flavor, texture and tenderness. The beef in that restaurant is simply perfect. The wines were also out of control good. My husband upgraded to try the Henry red wine and it came in its own mini decanter. We loved it. The wine was amazing and it paired perfectly with the steak!!!(They should sell the decanters.) Our overall experience at this winery and restaurant was perfect. Superb food and amazing wines. I highly recommend this place. I want to go back!!!

Yelp
Drove here didn't have reservations told to go away. Don't come here unless you went to their website to register. Last tour at 12. Also no view here. Other vineyards have some really nice views.

Yelp
The wine tasting as part of a set menu is a great way to discover their wines. In addition, there is an option to upgrade to higher end wines. Above all however, the scenery is beautiful and every single dish was delicious and refined.

Yelp
Great joint to have lunch, they were super attentive and the wines are top quality. The English speaking tour was also very good.

Yelp
Wine tasting at Lagarde was a great experience. We had been wine touring for 2 days, and I was starting to have wine fatigue. Let's be clear: I'm not the wine connoisseur in our group of friends, but I know what I like. I arrived a little a blasé at this vineyard, but both the quality of wine and of the tasting were enough to bring back my interest. I loved the first champagne we tasted, and both their malbec wines. Our Lagarde wine guide was very lively, and adapted very well to the dynamic of our group. She saw we had connoisseurs in the group, and stepped up the tasting, which we greeted with enthusiasm. With little jars of concentrated scents, she made us do blind tests, where we had to guess the scent and write it on a piece of a paper. All of the scents can be found in wine of course. Not only was it super fun to play with friends, it also underlined the importance of training the scent part of our brain, as the most common scents were often the hardest to recognize.

Yelp
This place has history, charm, decor and wonderful wine. Try the Henry and stay for lunch. We absolutely loved our meal.
