I couldn't be happier that I found this place. The food quality was superior. We started with some bread courtesy of the house, it was baked in there and was very good. The fries were extremely delicious. And the parrillada for two people was really really good. All the meat was cooked to perfection, and the small sauces like mustard and chimichurri were great additions to the cuts. It had very generous portions for the price. I also got a Quilmes beer for the first time and I loved it. I'm glad I came here and found my new favorite steak house.

I’ve been here sooo many times because whenever I crave a good juicy ribeye, this is my goto place. Carpaccio is good. Bife Ancho is 10/10! Borrego(lamb) is sooo juicy and doesn’t smell strong at all. This place is highly recommended for lunch/dinner dates, family gathering, brunch with friends, dinner with your ex/bestfriend/fiance/whoever! Food is amazing. The ambiance is lively. Say no more, go try!

Both the service and the food were bad. We ordered empanadas to start and they were ok but I've tried better ones, the entre was not good at all, my food was dry and burnt. I ended up sending it back and just getting more empanadas that I didn't even eat because my appetite was gone by then. The service was horrible. Our server never checked back on us and gave me attitude when I told him I didn't like my entre and when I tried to pay he was very nasty. I've work in the service industry and I've never seen a server being nasty to someone trying to pay a check. I'll never come back here.

One of my favorite places in Chicago. The food is always delicious here. I strongly recommed the el filet bodega with a side of spinach mashed potatoes. The filet mignon really melts in your mouth. The red wine onion sauce and chimichurri sauce goes very well together. Really enjoyed my birthday dinner. Julieth gave us a very attentive service.

First time at this excellent restaurant. Went there for an after hours biz meeting, drinks and dinner. The mojitos were great, the empanadas and steaks we had were definitely items to return for. The overall vibe, however, is what made me really like this small Argentinian steak house. The service was just about perfect and the whole experience made it worth fighting traffic from the suburbs. This is a very cool place that I can only highly recommend.

Very loud, expensive and underwhelming. 2 of 3 steaks over cooked and nothing comes with sides. Drinks were perfect except the hot chocolate, tasted like watered down powder. Many appetizers and they were probably the best part of the meal.

The easiest 5 stars I could give and across the board. Bodega Sur is an absolute treasure. The employees are friendly and seem to genuinely want to answer your questions and help you find the food or beverage that you would most enjoy. We enjoyed a couple of cocktails and an appetizer prior to heading next door to Tango Sur. I can’t wait to go back. If you like cocktails, I highly recommend the Caipirinha and Pisco Sour. Jenny (spelling) was INCREDIBLE. As of June 2023, $15 off wine to take to Tango Sur.

We came here on a Sunday afternoon following a show at the lovely Music Box Theatre and the place was packed. Bodega Sur has some unique and cocktails as well as traditional Margaritas, Sangrias and beers, served in beautiful glasses. I loved the Sunday brunch menu and shareable appetizers like a hand crafted charcuterie board or several choices of empanadas. The sweet beef empanadas were a savory blend of beef and sauces in a crispy, flaky shell. The ham and cheese was really good and very cheesy. We left satisfied but not feeling ridiculously full. Sit at the bar for some fun conversation with the fabulous bar tenders and staff. I also like the decor and use of hand painted tequila bottles with candles. There's a lot to see, hear, taste and appreciate at Bodega Sur.

Call ahead to make a reservation. The guy said you can just come up and walk in. Showed up about 15 mins later and there was a 90 min wait. I wish they would have been more clear when we called in. Didn't eat at the restaurant as we didn't want to wait an unexpected 90 mins. Word of advice, next time be more clear to patrons when they call in.

Service was excellent, food and drinks were delicious. Walked in around 7pm and it was pretty empty so we got seated right away. The lighting in this place is quite dark. I ordered the Pulpo which is their version of a grilled octopus and it came as a salad version which i enjoyed. I also ordered 2 rounds of the La pina drink which has pinapple and coconut flakes.

The food is delicious and the service is very good. The breakfast burrito is one of the best that I've had. It is a nice place but a bit tight with a lot of tables squeezed in there. There is an outdoor space which is nice in the summer. I recommend this spot for a weekend brunch but it is a bit pricey.

Great service and tasty food! We popped in here for a weeknight dinner and it didn't disappoint. We a plate of different Argentinian steaks, it same with a tomato salad, soft bread, and sauces. My goodness this was so good! It was just 2 of us so we took what we didn't eat home and it was still great the next day!

Food was okay. Ambience was fine. Service was trying to be helpful, but limited gluten free options makes this a tough pick for me. Not rushing back.

We came to Bodega Sur for dinner and are so glad we did- everything was wonderful. We had the bodega filet, antipasto plate, and the caipirinha. The filet was perfectly cooked, flavorful and the asparagus was amazing. The antipasto was the right size for two people (we ordered the small) and actually had some left over. I haven't had a caipirinha this good since I was in Brazil! We sat on the patio which was nice, the interior was very cute with a bar, tables, and a small wine shop. The service was very friendly, accommodating, and the meal was timed perfectly. 5/5 this is a steakhouse that is under-rated and I'm surprised it doesn't get more hype / attention from the chicago foodie scene.

Great experience - the environment and service here are hard to beat. The food itself is also very, very good. The steak came out perfectly medium rare and the selection of sauces was great. It is quite filling, so don't overcommit! Stick to an appetizer and a dish, you'll be very satiated. Maybe wine too if it's that sort of night. Absolutely coming back!

I walked in here one night for dinner and there was not a single staff member around to greet me for a solid 10 minutes, so I hovered awkwardly near the host stand with another couple who clearly been waiting a while too. I saw many people running food out to tables, but no one bothered to come talk to any of us. When someone finally came over, they seemed put out by the fact that we wanted to grab a table. Throughout our meal service was lackluster bordering on rude. I wouldn't go back.

Food was absolutely yummy and poppin'! We ate on the patio, it was such a beautiful day out! Plus, we had our dog with us. The server brought our doggie a bowl of water.. and checked on us frequently! Love a dog friendly restaurant! Overall, a great place to eat!

We ended up here after watching a musical @ the Mercury Theater. We tired Tango Sur but the wait was 2 hours so came to Bodega Sur instead. Had a very good red sangria, hubby had the michelada . We ordered salmon, veggie burger and spinach empanadas. The food was mediocre nothing exciting but the vibe of the restaurant was trendy and cool. We had the Argentinian version of profiteroles . Overall a nice experience.

Cute little wine bar and restaurant. We called to see if reservations were required and they stated that they are busy and we would need to. We showed up at our reserved time and the restaurant was empty. This establishment is dimly lit and only has a few tables that I could see. I'm not sure if there's another dining area. The food was ok; nothing to really write home about. Steak was cooked well, hummus and pita were pretty tasty. Not sure I'll go back but I'm glad I checked it out.

Absolutely love this place! The sister restaurant next to Tango Sur, we popped in for brunch one day and sat at their small bar. Service was amazing, food was great, and we loved the wine selection and the concept that we could pick out our own bottle and take it to go if we want! Great spot to grab some amazing food and also get some great wine! We will definitely be back.

I went to Bodega Sur for my first time this past Friday and I absolutely loved it. To start, the service was amazing - our server was attentive, entertaining, and was very helpful with everything we needed. We got a Malbec to start off our meal which was delightful. To eat, I ordered the Spinach Ravioli and was honestly blown away. It was very tasty, fresh, and very, very good. The overall vibe was also cozy which I enjoyed. I highly recommend Bodega Sur for a date night or a family meal and cannot wait to come back!

Great outdoor patio and indoor space. Huge menu selection with a variety of food and great wine choices. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the wine available. We began with the hummus appetizer and it was delicious as was the bread they brought to the table. I had the choripan sandwich and it was delicious and came with a side salad. My friends both tried the pasta primavera and said it was delicious.

Delicious! We went at an off time so I can't say what the vibe would normally be, but the staff was friendly and always there when we needed it. The Chorzipan sandwich was so good and the mojitos were really well made too.

Bodega Sur, an Argentinian restaurant in Chicago, is an absolute must-visit for food lovers. Our dining experience began with the La Piña cocktails that had a tropical flavor and were garnished with some shredded coconut. For appetizers, we ordered the empanadas, which were absolutely delicious. Among all varieties, the corn and cheese empanadas were the best because of the perfect blend of flavors, especially the spices they used. The Camarones Salteados is a flavorful dish with perfectly cooked shrimp that aren't overdone as they often are at other restaurants. The spinach mashed potatoes were equally impressive, with the right mix of flavors that didn't overpower one another. The service was very attentive with just a handful of tables for each staff member. They kept an eye on us throughout our meal, ensuring that our water glasses were always full and asking us how everything was multiple times. Bodega Sur's atmosphere was very cozy, with just enough decorations to feel unique without being overbearing. A part of the restaurant is a retail shop, featuring mostly South American wines. Our bill amounted to $80, which was reasonable for the area considering the quality of the food and service. Overall, Bodega Sur offers an exceptional dining experience that is sure to leave you satiated and satisfied.

Ended up here since I got waitlisted in the restaurant next door and wow, how did I not know about Bodega Sur before? This place is fantastic! Bodega sur is like a small version of everyone's favorite, Tango Sur, but for sure less crowded and less wait times. I truly loved the concept of picking my own bottle of wine from their shelves. Those are organized by country and type so it's easier to choose, especially if you know what are you getting for food. My friends and I ordered many dishes and shared. Of course, started with the empanadas (Chicken, sweet meat and spinach) and we ordered la tabla gaucha that comes with a great variety of meats (Short rib, chorizo, flank, etc) salad and of course, chimichurri! We also got the vacio and some sweet potatoes to share. Music and ambiance was perfect, maybe a little dark but for sure it's part of the concept. Definitely will be back and will have it on my notes to recommend. Truly perfect for a date or a go out with friends!

This was great! We came here for lunch on a Friday and I got the lomito sandwich and my friend got the chilaquiles with steak. Both were great! My sandwich came with so much steak on it I could literally take it out and just eat the steak if I wanted to. I also got the fresh squeezed orange juice which was lovely. We sat on the patio which was super cute in the nice weather. The service was also super nice-- we asked if we could pick a pepper from their pepper bushes and I don't think they usually let people do that but they let us pick one which was super nice, made my friends' day!

Right next door to its sister and fancier restaurant tango sur but honestly half of the menu is the same. If you come for dinner they still serve you table bread but the entrees won't come with extra salad before the main course. Steaks are the same quality and they also have a selection of sandwiches which is what I'm hooked on. The Lomito has become a family favorite of ours with its thinly sliced steak sandwiched between a healthy serving of tomatoes, lettuce and their heavenly sauce. When I most recently went the steak in the sandwich was a little chewy but I hope it was a one off since every other experience I've had has been exceptional. Their sweet potato fries also hit the spot! Outdoor dining is available but I quite enjoy the more romantic dark dining room. Usually no/minimal waits for a table during weekday dinner or weekend lunches.

All the food was delicious! I ordered the huevos rancheros for brunch and the flavor combination was amazing, one of my favorite huevos rancheros I've ever had. The hashbrowns were very good and we had the dulce de leche French toast as a dessert and it was sooooo good. Not too sweet but a perfect flavor, along with fresh strawberries. Delicious. The service was quick and pleasant. Would definitely recommend!

Bookshelf full of wine you pick to open and have. Wine is affordable. Service is very attentive without feeling annoying. Food is delicious.

We were walking down Southport looking for a dinner spot and came across bodega sur. We love sitting at the bar and were lucky to come scores two spots. The bartender was good and made some food recommendations that we ended up loving. He did get busy at times requiring us to ask to flag him down a few times but that didn't annoy us. The drinks we had were a special of the day and delicious- it was aperol, mezcal, ginger beer and lemon. It was wonderful and refreshing. We started off sharing the beef and ham and cheese empanadas. They were both crispy, thin and flakey dough filled with flavorful and well seasoned meat and cheese. The empanadas came with a side of the chimichurri that was wonderful and I literally put on everything. We ordered Tabla Gaucha which was the meat sampler plate. We asked for the meats to all be cooked to medium and it was spot on. The meat was flavorful and came with your choice of three different sauces. All three were amazing and complemented the meats well. The salad with the meats was a tomato one- I am totally biased and loved it. But I also could sit and just eat a plate of plain tomatoes. So to be fair- it you don't love tomatoes this salad will not be for you- and I would recommend seeing if they could switch it for another kind (I saw an arugula one on the menu). It was a cute find and I can't wait to come back and try more of the food!

Very nice restaurant good for date night vibes especially, the steaks were juicy the sides were good and the servers kept our glasses full. I couldn't recommend it more.

This small place is very cute and recommend for a quick lunch date. Our server was very attentive and patient with us as it was our first time coming. I highly recommend the Camarones salteados (especially if you like tomatos) which the shrimp was very plump and every bite was very refreshing. I also ordered the entrana which they cooked it very well and I ordered it with a sunny side up egg to get more of a lomo saltados feel. We are definitely coming back to try other items on the menu.

I have been coming to Bodega and Tango Sur for AGES. I have had every birthday at Tango till I moved out of Chicago, but everytime I am back I stop in. I stopped into Bodega and caught up with a friend over some white wine sangria and a paloma! Which was so good especially if you are in the mood for something sweet! We started with beef empanadas which were delicious the filling always has the best flavours and is never dry and the outside is crunchy and fluffy! I then had the steak and shrimp plate and it never disappoints! Everything has so much flavor! She got the short rib which was also Delicious! Overall staff is always friendly and the service is always great! Never going to stop coming here and if you have never tried it this is your sign! Go give it a try!

Went here for brunch and I'm a big fan! Sat outside, they have a nice shaded sidewalk patio, and ordered an iced mocha and a Lomito sandwich. The sandwich - omg delish. It's a little bit on the pricier side (think $22?) but I had plenty of leftovers so felt reasonable. They also have some fun breakfast cocktails that I need to try next time.

Such an amazing lunch! We had the Lomito sandwich and the open faced sandwich trio. The lomito was out of this world!

Honestly, this was a great find on my last trip to Chicago. It's sweet and intimate...perfect for digging into some wine and food with your peeps. They have a pretty big food menu with plenty of tasty Argentinian options for your dietary needs or taste bud desires. They're playing with some excellent wine choices (especially prices) and I appreciated the list not being too overwhelmingly big to browse through. The service staff were all very friendly and attentive but not in the business of bothering you while you enjoy your meal. If I lived in the area I would frequent here A LOT! Don't sleep on this charming little spot if you find yourself in the hood.

If you're craving bold Latin American flavors, you need to try bodega sur! Everything we had where was absolutely delicious. Started off with the ham and cheese empanada but the chimichurri was the star of it all. Hash browns could've used a bit more salt but the sandwich was so filling and the sausage was seasoned nicely. Their menu is huge so you can definitely find something for all taste palettes here.

We came here for Sunday Brunch! I must say we have never ventured past Lululemon on Southport, but we are so glad we did! Bodega Sur is the perfect place for a relaxing, quality meal. I was very excited that we had the opportunity to look at their wine selection (available for purchase) while we waited for our food. However, when I food came I was even more excited especially for this spinach empanada. I would say that was the highlight of our visit. It was 10/10 one of the best empanadas that has ever reached my mouth. We split a burrito and sandwich which were good, but I think when we come back I would definitely try out all the empanadas. The service was additionally spectacular our glasses were always filled and I was offered advice when I was looking at the wine wall. Definitely venture to this side of Southport. It's worth it.

Amazing food. Probably the best empanada I've ever had. Tapas were so good. Fun to pick out a bottle of wine for the table and the server was very nice and attentive.

Came for dinner with some friends and ordered the Tabla Gaucha, which is an amazing feast of meats served with different dipping sauces and a refreshing tomato and red onion salad. The meat was grilled so it has a nice char flavor and was perfectly tender. We also tried the Lengua ala Vinagreta, which is thin sliced beef tongue marinated in parsley, garlic, and olive oil. FYI It is a chilled salad. It's a generous serving and was flavored well. Overall, service was great and the food was delicious!

Boy, this was excellent! A perfect pre/post-Music Box dinner, Bodega Sur offers a ton of options for everyone. Incredible steaks for the meat eater, and great options for the vegetarian, along with plenty to share. My filet mignon was cooked to a perfect medium rare, and seasoned so well. Don't forget to try the empanadas! Try are rolled expertly, and baked for a perfect, healthier crisp.

Terrific food, service, and a cozy atmosphere. I love going here for a bite before or after seeing something at the Music Box, so much so that it's become one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago!

I wanted to take my husband out for dinner and when the place we really wanted to go to was slammed, we decided on Bodega Sur. The menu looked good so we decided to give it a try. I love me a good skirt steak and just very soft and tender food so I really had high hopes that whatever we ordered here would be mouth watering and delicious. My husband and I are huge skirt steak lovers but unfortunately I was disappointed. The meat was not soft but rather hard to chew and once I start getting pieces of meat stuck in my teeth, I stop eating because it's not ladylike for me to start taking out pieces of meat out of my mouth. The best thing on the menu was the sweet potato fries. It my first date with my husband post second baby and I was just SO annoyed that our food was not as great as I expected it to be that I didn't have the energy to complain to the waitress, I just wanted to get outta there. We got the empanadas but I was really not impressed, they lacked that extra umpf that would make them special and they weren't as flavorful as I expected them to be. I absolutely love Chilango's empanadas and they can't even begin to compare to the quality and flavor of Chilango. It could be that for individuals that don't want a kick of flavor, these could be great but not for me. That is why I highly recommend you check them out for yourself because we all have different taste buds and expectations. Giving this place three stars because they have a cute bathroom with air freshener (believe it or not a lot of bathrooms done but I appreciate the fresh smell when I walked in!), for its cleanliness, for the professionalism of the host, for the access to patio sitting and conveniently close by street parking (even if you have to pay for it).

Food was fantastic! Service was excellent, very friendly and efficient and the cocktails were over the top! Really enjoyed everything about this place. Small place with a great atmosphere.

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious date night dinner here. We had the corn and cheese empanada and the sweet beef empanada - both were delicious. My husband loved the sweet beef. I had the El Gaucho and my husband had the barramundi. Huge portions and delicious flavors. Will be back to try the Mar Y Tierra!

My friend and I visited Bodega Sur before heading to a Cubs game on Saturday. Since I have eaten at Tango Sur often and and the reviews were glowing my expectations were high. When the server arrived we got ordered Sangrias and Torta's as recommended by the server. While we enjoyed the Sangria (7/10 I've had better but I wasn't mad at it) But the Torta's were damn near inedible. We politely expressed to the server our displeasure with the meal and to our surprise she refused to replace the order with another item. She went on to tell us "no one else has ever complained" " not enjoying the Torta's as a personal preference", and she would not remove it from the bill or offer another item in its place. Keep in mind that we had only taken a single bite when we're informed her the food was not good. My husband and I dine out often and I have never been treated so poorly! This woman who claimed to be the manager clearly doesn't value customers and should not be working there. Safe to say I will not be coming back and I encourage you to choose another place to eat!

Everyone meet your next favorite sauce - Chimichurri. Mmmmmmm. My friend and I were walking down the Southport Ave when we saw Bodega Sur and decided and eat here on a whim and oh boy, we couldn't be more right. I got the kids' meal - mini steak and eggs. 4 oz steak with quinoa/potato hash browns, eggs with CHIMICHURRI SAUCE, the awesome Argentinean specialty. The steak was perfect portion for my ravenous yet small stomach, the quinoa/hash browns were extremely delicious - crunchy, right amount of spicy and incredibly savory. Fried egg was great and went well with everything. This meal would have 12/10 perfect had I not been so adventurous and ordered the mate traditional drink. Imagine your most bitter green tea and now multiply that by 50 times and you get mate traditional. I am a mate-ignoramus and hope to remain so after this close encounter. My friend got chilaquiles and not gonna lie but it was the best I ever tasted. Anyway, 12/10 for my meal. 15/10 for the chimichurri sauce. Highly recommend and can't wait to go back PSA: the restaurant people have their grocery store(??) sort of, so if you wanna grab a steak or chimichurri sauce, you can ask the waiters and they will direct you accordingly

First bad review I have written. My friends and I stopped in to get some drinks and appetizers mid-afternoon. Although the place was nearly empty, we waited at the hosts station for a while to be seated (as workers were standing, chatting). Once we were seated we did not receive our menus until asking. We ordered fries and drinks immediately. When we told the waitress we would not be ordering a main entree, she informed us that there is a 20 min limit, which we kindly obliged to. We felt very rushed by the staff as they watched us in the empty restaurant. Within 15 minutes of receiving our food and drinks, a buss boy sternly told us that they needed the table, while the other tables were notably empty around us. We were given no check-ins or any warnings beforehand. Every worker with whom we interacted was very curt and unkind. The food was also ill-prepared and cold. I do not frequently leave bad reviews but it was unanimous that the service was incredibly bad.

This place was amazing. We got street parking pretty close to the restaurant. I ordered a slider trio for $17 and it was so much food and YUMMY! They put so much care into every drink that they made us. My brother was unhappy with the large amount of chocolate chips in his pancakes, but I think the world will never have enough chocolate. They were accommodating to my mother who is gluten free. The presentation of the food was also quite nice.

Empanadas and drinks were good...asked to leave right after paying our $700 bill because there were too many people waiting. Server rolling her eyes countless times when we had requests....plenty of other Argentinian restaurants in Chicago.

Had a lovely food experience here but knocked off a star as they seemed understaffed during the Saturday brunch and we waited a good 20 minutes before having to walk up to the wait staff to get our check. When we arrived before 10:00AM it was pretty empty, maybe only 1-2 other tables full. By the time we left a little after 11, it was bustling and it seemed like every table was full. The food was amazing. We started with a few of the empanadas, and my goodness they had the best chimichurri sauce I've ever had. No joke. I was looking for things to put it on. The empanadas are also quite tasty. We also had the sandwich trio which was a symphony of flavors. Each sandwich had a good mix of flavors that complemented each other well. I'd definitely recommend it!

Say at the bar for our "date night" after encountering a rude door man at Tango Sur. Realized that the menu was very similar and appreciated the friendly atmosphere. We were promptly told about how to get our own beer if desired and given a list of drinks they could make. The bartender was very passionate and when sharing a cocktail broke a sweat... that's dedication!! Both meals we had were great and came out hot and quickly. I had the El Filet and my fiancé the Ribeye. He loved the garlic sauce that came with his (how could you not?!) and we rounded out our night with a shot with Sergio and a warm invite to return. Overall we were very happy that Tango Sur gave us the snub so we could saunter over and enjoy this gem.

When visiting an Argentine restaurant, it's never wrong to order all of the meat! loved this spot we ended up visiting when Tango Sur had a long wait. We ended up next to the window and had a delicious meal. We decided to split everything bc we couldn't decide on just one thing each. We had empanadas (bc of you go to an Argentine restaurant you have empanadas). Honestly, they were fined but the other items we ordered certainly shined in comparison. The crust was heavy and the filling was slightly bland. But the were disappointing just not superlative. We shared the steak- which was perfectly cooked and delicious. It came with garlicky and yummy chimichurri - highly recommend. The sausage board was a great way to experience all of the options. I loved all but one, but my companion enjoyed all of them. I look forward to returning soon.
