We came here after an intense rock-climbing session, so our appetites were through the roof. Parking was not too bad and it was only a quick walk to the restaurant from where our cars were. The restaurant was a small comfortable place, with a modest amount of seatings. It was a counter service, so there was no waitstaff.
Unfortunately, when we got there around early afternoon, they were already out of the burnt ends and the beef brisket, which were basically the things that I wanted the most. I ended up ordering the pulled pork platter with a side of Bogart's beans and deviled egg potato salad. Overall, the meal wasn't too bad. However, because I came from Texas, the bar is incredibly high and unfortunately I did not think this place met that high bar. The pulled pork was okay but required a lot of additional sauce to bring it up. (The sauces were pretty good, and there were many options to pick from). The hallmark of a good pulled pork, in my opinion, is that it can be tolerated well without any additional accoutrements. The sides themselves were also decent. The beans were a nice sweet, salty and smoky flavor and the potato salad was a nice creamy consistency. While it was nothing to complain about, per se, it was also just about average. However, for the price point of $16+ I was expecting a little bit more, both in terms of quality and in terms of serving sizes. Maybe the beef brisket and the burnt ends were better and that's why they ran out of them in the first place but unfortunately I can only review the dish that I was able to order. Overall I would say this was a positive experience because of the vibes and the group that I was with. However, I would only give this place 3/5 stars.
