Exclusive (referral-only) East Village Japanese eatery hidden behind a butcher shop.
"Bohemian, which started in Tokyo, is an exclusive restaurant. You have to be referred and given a secret phone number by someone who’s dined here before. As annoying as that sounds, the food at this Japanese spot hidden behind a high-end butcher shop is worth the effort. There’s sushi on the menu, but we suggest prioritizing their steaks or going for one of their relatively-inexpensive tasting menus. If you don’t already have a hookup, try to get in by simply introducing yourself here." - Bryan Kim, Kenny Yang
"Bohemian is probably best known for requiring a secret phone number and a personal reference in order to get a reservation. But the real reason why you should seek out this Noho Japanese spot as soon as possible is the food. They’re offering an abbreviated sushi menu for delivery with things like soft shell shrimp rolls topped with roe, and conger eel and foie gras nigiri. No matter what type of sushi you get, though, make sure to try the washu beef they get from the attached butcher shop, like as a tartare served on toast filled with melted blue cheese." - Matt Tervooren
"Bohemian’s phone number is 212-388-1070. For the first time ever, this Noho Japanese spot has made that information public. Call them between 1-5pm to make a reservation for a table between 3-8:30pm (they don’t accept same-day reservations), and eat some wagyu beef tartare over blue cheese toast in front of the former home and art studio of Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat." - Matt Tervooren
"New York City’s oldest beer garden, Bohemian, has been shut down for violating the state’s social distancing guidelines." - Luke Fortney
"Ordinarily, you need a secret phone number and a personal reference to get a table at Bohemian. Now, you can just call 212-388-1070 or go online to place your pick-up or delivery order. Check their Instagram highlights for the full drink and food menus. A teaser: they’re offering full bottles of whiskey and an eel and foie gras sushi set." - Hannah Albertine
