The Best Salads In Philadelphia Right Now - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"You won’t need a fork to eat the mishwia salad at Bon Kif Grill—this warm Tunisian restaurant serves its salad in dip form. A pool of blended grilled peppers, sauteed onions, tomatoes, and garlic gets topped with tuna. It’s a little spicy, a little sweet, and all balanced by lemon. Get an order of warm pita and swipe through." - candis mclean, alison kessler

The 15 Best Mediterranean Restaurants in Philly

"If you find yourself on South Street and want to catch up with your friends for at least 30 minutes before diving into a feast of Tunisian dishes, Bon Kif Grill will do the trick. The casual Tunisian restaurant takes hospitality as seriously as its kabobs, shawarma, and luscious garlic spread—the owner greets every table with just-from-the-oven bread, is happy for you to linger over your shish kofta, and insists you drink his freshly brewed mint tea before heading out. Come with a casual date, or bring your entire family (they even have a toddler-sized Mercedes for tiny diners to tool around in), and relax with a spread of Middle Eastern comfort food. Bon Kif Grill - Review - South Street - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"If you find yourself on South Street and want to catch up with your friends for at least 30 minutes before diving into a feast of Tunisian dishes, there’s Bon Kif Grill. The casual Tunisian restaurant feels like someone’s living room, and it takes hospitality as seriously as its kabobs, shawarma, and luscious garlic spread. The warm and welcoming owner greets every table with just-from-the-oven bread, is happy for you to linger over your shish kofta, and insists you drink his freshly brewed mint tea before heading out. Come with a casual date, or bring your entire family (they even have a toddler-sized Mercedes for tiny diners to tool around in), and relax with a spread of Middle Eastern comfort food. photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo Pause Unmute Food Rundown Mishwia Salad We know this borders on sacrilege, but skip the just-okay hummus at Bon Kif, and start with this dip-like salad instead. A pool of blended grilled peppers, sauteed onions, tomatoes, and garlic is topped with tuna. It’s a little spicy, a little sweet, and all balanced by fresh lemon. Get an order of warm pita to dip. photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo Chicken Shawarma Platter The spiced rice that comes with this platter is (almost) as delicious as the garlicky, earthy chicken shawarma it’s served with. The shredded chicken has deliciously crispy skin, juicy meat, and notes of cumin, cardamom, and paprika. Combined with the refreshing cucumber and tomato salad, it all makes for one great bite. Order it. photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo Grilled Branzino If you’re not in the mood for meat, this is one of the better fish options. The branzino is light and flaky, but a touch too heavy on the char. Ask for extra lemons to even it out. photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo Grilled Lamb Chops They’re tender, juicy, and well-cooked. Order them with a side of the spiced rice. It’s excellent. photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo Garlic Spread Yes, this is the complimentary spread that comes with every meal. But it’s also incredible. The garlic flavor is so pungent it stays in your mouth well into the next day, and you’ll be sad when it finally disappears. Spread it on the warm rolls it's served with, or the shrimp kabobs, or the shish kofta. It makes everything better. photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo" - Alison B. Kessler

The Essential Restaurants of South Street | Eater Philly

"One of the few restaurants in Philadelphia serving Tunisian cuisine, Bon Kif Grille serves a menu full of Mediterranean favorites. Start a meal here with one of their many regular or spicy hummus or salad options, then dive into a heavier entree like the whole grilled chicken, kabob, or beef kofta." - George Banks-Weston

This establishment was excellent from start to finish. I was warmly greeted as soon as I walked in, promptly seated, and offered a menu along with a starter of pita bread and various sauces. Since it was my first time dining here, the staff kindly suggested meal and beverage options, which I truly appreciated. Every recommendation arrived exactly as it should—fresh, hot, or refreshingly cold. To top it all off, after my meal I was treated to a complimentary cup of hot tea, which was both excellent and exactly what I needed after such a spectacular dining experience. I will definitely be returning—and bringing friends and family with me!

We had our best feeling in this restaurant. Mr. Fathi welcomed us with gracious smile and served food in a way it seemed like we were guests who he was waiting for. I noticed that he also did the same courtesy to the other tables. One of my children was exhausted on the way to Philadelphia as we didn't find any vegetarian food on the way, but once we entered the restaurant, we all felt very homely. We arrived late, less than half an hour before their closing time, but the hospitality Mr. Fathi showed to us made us feel extremely grateful. The restaurant was very clean, the food was very tasty, and was all served with love. The baklava was so delicious! A visit here can definitely make your trip more memorable. Thanks to the amazing service and food, we had a beautiful welcoming to Philadelphia after our long journey.

Best Mediterranean food I've had in years! We ordered the platter a selection of different meat. It was amazing. My favorite was the lamb chops it was perfectly cooked and so juicy, the beaf and chicken Shawarma was also really good. You have to try the hummus with olive oil, amezing! so authentic, I felt like I was having hummus for the first time. We also tried the lentil soup for our apps. It was so rich and tasty. If you like mint, you have to try the mint tea! I will definitely be back.

Came here with colleagues for a nice-ish dinner and the nicest owner/busboy/cook/waiter/friend, Fati, we could have met gave us one of the most delicious Tunisian meals I’ve had in my life. 10/10 service, 10/10 kindness, and 12/10 food. Get the hummus, get the mixed platter, get the cucumber lemonade, mint tea, baklava, you name it. He brought us so much FREE food that he would not let us pay for. We’ll be coming back tomorrow night too I’m sure.

Amazing service, very warm and described the Mediterranean dishes to us. I enjoyed the lamb chops, wish they were bigger! I need to come back to try the Tunisian fish entree

Had an amazing experience here tonight. Fahti took care of us and he was the best. Very welcoming, he gave us great recommendations and made sure we were okay the whole night. Our food was amazing nice prices. We started with the hummus and beef and the pita bread was so fresh. The chicken shawarma was a 10/10!

We went me and my friend yesterday for dinner and we really enjoyed our time there, had a wonderful Mediterranean meal at this restaurant, . The hummus was creamy, fresh, and full of flavor, the perfect start to the meal. For the main course, we enjoyed a grilled combination of chicken, lamb, and ground beef, all cooked to perfection, tender, and bursting with smoky Mediterranean spices. As a lovely touch, the owner offered complimentary tea, which made the experience even warmer and more authentic. The service was friendly, the atmosphere inviting, and the food absolutely delicious. Highly recommend for anyone craving genuine Mediterranean flavors🙂

Yelp
Another stellar dinner at Bon Kif! Everything was perfection, from the homemade lentil soup to the delicious branzino. Fathi is a wonderful host and always has excellent recommendations.

Yelp
The food was delicious but I think I'd order online next time. I think they have a new system because the listed sides on the menu were not an option to order. We also had a little trouble with our order- we tried to get a double platter but it seems like what came out were single orders. I was impressed that they stamped the dinner rolls with a design and the dipping sauce for the bread was heavenly. I got a mint lemonade that was super sweet but still tasty. The meat was a bit over cooked and I wish there were more veggies.

Yelp
I paid $26 for this Kabob Beef . Only a few beef cube with rice and veggie. The beef were dried and tough. Did they make a mistake ? Or is it really $26 for this? Not worth it

Yelp
Had a solo Saturday lunch here and had a great experience. My server was incredibly friendly and inviting. I had the Veggie Ghallaba (generous portions) with rice pilaf and grilled veggies. They served it with some of the best Homemade rolls I've ever had and a spicy garlic sauce. At the end of the meal the host brought me some warm mint tea. All of that for around $20. Great place highly recommend

Yelp
The food here is excellent, and the service is really welcoming. I came with a group of 8 people, and we shared some appetizers: hummus, grape leaves, fattoush, falafel. Then we all ordered separate main courses. The food was plentiful and delicious. After dinner, we had a complimentary mint tea. The owner was very kind and accommodating.

Yelp
i don't know if i am just a late eater or what but i found myself with a hankering for some shawarma on a late sunday night in Philly and looked and looked and couldn't really find an option. i eventually found Bon Kif was nearby and had my order. I have never really had any exposure to Tunisian cuisine but that is their specialty and they had what I wanted. I ordered a couple orders of chicken shawarma and an order of hummus and placed my order through grub hub and waited for it to be ready for pickup. it was ready fairly quickly about twenty minutes and i walked and picked it up and ran home to enjoy. it came with rice some vegetables and a few pieces of bread i am not exactly sure what they were. not pitas but sort of similar. small round flat rolls with some sesame seeds they were tasty and i am sure they were probably a northern african baked specialty. everything was good well seasoned and cooked well. the hummus was good too and a good addition to add some extra liquid component to the meal. the restaurant wasn't very crowded but i went late on a cold wet sunday night so not very surprising. it was clean and the staff was nice and everything was pretty good. i will say it sort of on the smaller side for portion size which was fine but compared to some other spots could be something to think about in terms of price to portion size. i was happy though and enjoyed the meal.

Madison B.

Yelp
Food was alright (hummus lacked seasoning)but portion size for what you pay is lacking. I paid $20 for this appetizer. Pita is yum though!!!

Sam W.

Yelp
The lamb was great. The meal didn't come with pita bread even though we paid for it. Baba gounoush and humus were very mediocre. The bread that it did come with was terrible.

Yelp
A Flavorful Oasis on South Street! Rating: (5/5) So, picture this: I'm wandering down South Street, minding my own business, when I spot a shiny new gem called Bon Kif Grill. Being the "professional taste tester" I am, I had to see what's cooking. Little did I know, I was about to embark on a culinary adventure that would leave my taste buds doing the conga! First off, let's talk about the owners. These guys are like the Jedi Masters of Tunisian cuisine. Yes, you heard me right--Tunisian! They've brought the rich flavors of Tunisia to Philly, and let me tell you, my taste buds did a little victory dance. Who knew a simple "garlic dip" could transport me to a flavor wonderland? Oh, but it gets better. I asked about their legendary toum, and they handed me a plate of happiness with some fresh bread. I swear, the garlic angels were singing. I felt like I was floating on a cloud of culinary joy. Fast forward to the next day, and I'm back. This time, I decided to dive into the adventure with a sit-down meal. I opted for the vegetable couscous, and wow, talk about a party in my mouth! And you bet your bottom dollar, my friend went all-in for the fatoush. Let's just say, it's like a salad with a PhD in deliciousness. Now, let's address the elephant in the review--the bathroom. Hold onto your kebabs, because this is no ordinary restroom. It's a masterclass in restroom luxury, with a hose attachment on the toilet. Major props, Bon Kif Grill, for thinking outside the box (or stall, in this case)! In conclusion, if you're craving a culinary escapade that'll make your taste buds dance the cha-cha, head over to Bon Kif Grill. These Tunisian flavor wizards have brought the magic of their homeland to our beloved South Street. So, grab your fork, unleash your inner foodie, and thank me later for this flavor-packed recommendation! Savoring the Tunisian goodness, Marie

Yelp
We ate here with our picky 7 year old. The food was fantastic. We had the meat shawarma, the falafel, and the lamb chili. All were excellent and the prices were reasonable. Our picky child loved everything, and he asked for his own cup of the lamb chili. If you go, I'd highly recommend the lamb chili. The broth was amazing, and the lamb was soft and not gamy.

Yelp
Outstanding meal! Take my word for it...get the lamb chops! But everything was just superb. Don't forget the garlic sauce too! Bon Kif is a must visit when you're visiting south street!!! Welcomed addition to our neighborhood!!!

Yelp
I took a chance and came here with no reviews on Yelp. Before we ordered, they brought fresh bread and garlic sauce. As soon as I broke open the roll and took a bite, I knew the food would be good. We had the bon kif shish tawook sandwich and the chicken schwarma plate. Both were incredible! We also recommend the fresh squeezed lemonade. Give this place a try, it won't disappoint!

Yelp
This newish spot on South Street was so great! It's very clean, relaxing atmosphere, perfect for a date or casual meal. Staff were friendly and welcoming- great service. Food was excellent, cooked fresh as we waited- so it was hot and tasty. Large portions so we had to go boxes for leftovers. Complimentary hot tea and dessert were served- such a nice touch. Highly recommend this spot! We'll definitely return.

Esmahan A.

Yelp
Don't walk- run to this restaurant- first of all, it is so cute and clean inside. Second of all the surface was immaculate. The food is a combination of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern foods. I finally had the koshary which is a popular Egyptian food and I loved it! The fries were delicious, but I ate it before I took a picture of it lol. The Moroccan tea at the end was a perfect finish. This will be my go to spot as well as a catering spot for me.

Yelp
Wow what a treat. Such delicious Tunisian food and very clearly made with love. The service was fantastic.

Yelp
Excellent food. The homemade pita bread is positively delicious. It has a wonderful taste and a pleasant crunch on the crust. The service was also excellent - Hassin was very attentive but not overly solicitous. We enjoyed our visit very much and will definitely come back.

Yelp
Bon Kif Grill is a wonderful addition to Philadelphia's South Street restaurant scene with its Mediterranean/Tunisian cuisine, done perfectly. To start us off the service was prompt and very pleasant with the freshly-baked pita rolls served warm, along with delicious garlic cream. We lunched on Chicken and Almond Hummus, along with Spinach Pies which were served on a bed of dressed, fresh greens and tomatoes. All seasonings were exquisitely done. (As one who has traveled to this region of the world, I thought that this meal saved the price of the plane ticket.) The comfortable, soft leather seating, interesting regional art and deep wood tables made this a pleasant space in which to dine. Also, it was important to the thoughtful owner that we were pleased with the meal. Highly recommended!

Rebecca G.

Yelp
Lovely light lunch (2 appetizers) served promptly and with care. Genial owner host. House made stamped rolls with garlic cream was delicious and welcoming. We live out in the 'burbs but I'm going to recommend this place to city friends. We might even make it a destination for dinner.

Angel C.

Yelp
The service was amazing they are so attentive. Hamdi is excellent and made sure my family and I were well taken care of. My food was good and came exactly how I ordered I'll be coming back!

René M.

Yelp
Discovered this new restaurant by accident--lucky us! Terrific veg combo: hummus, tabouli, falafel, plus crushed lentil soup. All delicious, as well as baklava and Arabic coffee. Super attentive service and pleasant ambience. Everyone should check this place out so we can continue to have it around!

Jenn P.

Yelp
Amazing food. Owner is very nice and accommodating . They are new go check them out !

John T.

Yelp
The food was very good. The service was excellent and very friendly. We went here to try something different and were very pleasantly surprised. The owner described the food as Tunisian, Algerian and Moroccan Mediterranean cuisine. We had Tunisian pita which is more like a soft roll but very good. They serve it with what they call a garlic sauce; which is more like a mayonnaise but again very good. I had the lamb chops with grilled vegetables and rice. My wife had the Mediterranean sea bass with same sides; again so delicious! Definitely will be back. The portions were just right and priced reasonably. If you're looking for something different this is a great place to try. Oh, and the tea served at the end with mint and pine nuts might be the best tea I've ever had.
