Leghorn Chicken Review - Ukrainian Village - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Political views and nutritional value aside, Chick Fil A is the gold standard when it comes to fried chicken sandwiches. We aren’t sure if our ATL friends have successfully made this happen, but god d*mn is a Chick Fil A sandwich and sweet tea good. So when you open a specialty fried chicken sandwich restaurant, we are going to compare, and Leghorn came out firing with gourmet fried chicken sandwiches in a hip Ukrainian Village setup. We were hoping Leghorn would be one of our favorite go to spots for a quick bite, but unfortunately this is one of the more disappointing reviews we’ve had to write. Visually and on paper, Leghorn is a dream. Unlike the problems with Chick Fil A (it’s still fast food after all), Leghorn is a champion of farm raised chickens, fresh ingredients, and a real hands on approach. So what’s with all the negativity? Because the flavors inexplicably fall flat. We don’t understand why, and we can’t really explain it, but almost everything here tastes bland. The best part of Leghorn is the space and the vibe. It’s a small, cash only, BYOB spot, where you order at a counter and food is delivered shortly thereafter. It’s a raw space with exposed wood, a few tables, and some counter seats. Rap can often be heard and the menu looks like it was personally delivered by an angel, a combination of Fergie and Jesus. Everything about Leghorn screams “I’m awesome,” except for the food. A second location opened in River North, but that news doesn’t excite us as much as it should. Food Rundown Fried Chicken Sandwiches Despite a couple other options, fried chicken sandwiches are the premise of Leghorn. There are three core steps to building a sandwich: 1. Breast or thigh meat, 2. Pickle brined or Nashville hot, 3. Biscuit or bun. Sounds delicious, but it falls short. The pickle brined chicken has very little flavor, it’s juicy, but bland. Nashville hot is only slightly better, but it’s more so spice you taste than actual flavor. The biscuits are pretty uneventful too, which is a real shame. Homemade sauces like buttermilk rancho verde, spicy mayo, and honey mustard will cover up some of the disappointment, but only so much. Gun to our heads we order the Nashville hot on a bun with extra rancho verde, and then make a stop at Chick Fil A on the way home. Green Chile Hush Puppies Best thing here. These large and fluffy pups go from average to pretty good with the green chili addition. Get the sauces involved too. Hand-Cut Nori Fries The crisp is good, but just like the chicken, they lack in flavor. Shaved Vegetable Slaw A mix of shaved carrots, radish, beets, celery, and apple. A light and refreshing slaw. Sweet Tea If swimming in sweet tea and drinking a pool of it dry was an option, count me in. This sugary southern staple is so good on a hot day." - Sam Faye

Wicker Park’s Best Restaurants

"Korean fried chicken chain Bonchon has a veritable cult following, and three years ago, Wicker Park residents found out why: perfectly crunchy chicken (wings, drums, and strips) slathered in soy or spicy glaze. Patrons can expect other familiar Korean and Japanese options including bulgolgi, japchae, chicken katsu, and takoyaki. Other locations are open in Chinatown and suburban Glenview." - Ashok Selvam, Naomi Waxman

Bonchon, the Korean fried chicken chain, is opening its third Chicago-area location on Thursday in Wicker Park - Eater Chicago

"Bonchon, the Korean chain known for its fried chicken and other Korean dishes, is opening a new location in Wicker Park. The new venue features a full bar, seating for about 100 people, and multiple TVs. The menu includes options like bimbimbop, bao, tacos, japchae, and lunch specials. Initially, the location will be BYO as they are working on their liquor license." - Ashok Selvam

I had the Spicy chicken and the Soy Garlic chicken .. and the plain fried rice ..both flavors of chicken taste good . The rice was a bit too sweet for me but ok .. what I will say is the Chicken is just as they boast very very CRUNCHY .. They are seriously real about that claim ..they also serve beer from the tap ... OQ

Unfortunately Don’t go to this location. Go to the Chinatown! We ordered pickup and the tenders were super bland and looked like naked strips with light sauce and we were so excited because we love the strips and were CRAVING. So since we were still unsatisfied we had to order delivery (unsatisified big backs) from the other location (Chinatown pl) and they were amazing. I’ll post both pics.

Update: Owner responded below but I did what they instructed still I didn’t hear back from anyone. ———— Ive had bonchon in east coast and illinois - Bonchon is good! What I didn’t know is that I’d find a Bonchon where the wings at Jewel would taste 100x better at a fraction of a cost!! I paid $50+ to get 30 wings (half spicy and half soy) delivered to me. Delivery only took a short time. When it got to me, the box was collapsing on the bottom and the wings were sooooo SOGGY! Some pieces didn’t even have proper batter at all! Which is weird because we’ve had delivery and pickup orders before, and the wings are so crunchy even 2 hours later after being in the box closed. So this is just unacceptable. The wings look like they were just stacked on top of each other then doused with sauce! They split the hot and garlic, but they both look like they were doused with the same brown sauce, I can’t even tell the difference! Usually when i eat the spicy wings they have a different under taste to it and slightly redder hue, but the half and half i received here looked exactly the same and tasted exactly the same except that one hd a spicy kick to it. This whole experience was something i’ve never experienced form a Bonchon chain before!! The wings were burnt and dry inside. I don’t know if they took already made chicken or if they ran out of wings, but they placed chicken legs in the spicy box. Weirdly the chicken legs were SOOOOO dry inside and some parts were literally PINK MEAT. We had to trash most of the wings and basically all the chicken legs they put in there. Can you imagine spending $50 on 30 wings, just to discard half? Can’t even complain to get a refund because they were closed when my delivery arrived.

Updated from my original review, this place has unfortunately went downhill quite a ways. The only thing saving it from one star is the food is still decent but even that is not as good as it was at opening. To start things off, I believe there's been a change in ownership and they've let the bar lapse, so no more alcohol if you're eating in. I think their ice machine may be broken as well, water did not have any ice. Hot fried food and room temperature water isn't great. There's now only one person up front and maybe two in the back and it shows. Bathrooms were dirty and one was completely out of toilet paper. The vent fan was in a very loud death rattle as well. No condiments or napkins anywhere in sight Food was brought out too quickly and not given time to rest after frying, way too hot, but good for carry out. Restaurant was out of some basics before Friday dinner rush. When we did get dipping sauce and kimchi, it was in plastic to go containers. Would it really be that much effort to plate it up for dine in? Food overall is of lower quality than when it opened. I'd much rather pay a bit more to maintain the quality than buy something that cuts corners. It was still ok, but only barely just. Honestly I don't see this place lasting as is, they do a lot of takeout business and they'd be better served moving to a smaller location that is carry out only and putting the money they save into higher quality ingredients.

Google
Awful service. They were out of menu items & drinks. The bathroom was in a state of disarray—the toilet was cracked, debris was on the ground, and there were no napkins. Sat for about an hour without receiving our food. The restaurant was basically empty. We watched the staff fulfill countless pickup orders and start serving people who came in well after us. There was no explanation to us about the delay. No customer service whatsoever.

Google
I ordered plain fried rice, the portion was small and bland for 15$ (14$ & change). Rice is cheap and any fried rice I've had Thai/Chinese is plentiful & flavorful. The girl that took my order was nice and informed about the menu, I'm just sorry I didn't ask her was it good. The table I waited at for my take out was not clean! Visibly not clean! I won't be back.

Google
Food is generally good, it is not the first time that we come to this location. The lunch special menu is pretty good and you get good food at not too much price. However, they have a big problem with the service. It is not bad per se, but there is only 1 employee + kitchen staff. I know they have been looking for new staff, but 1 person for taking care of the orders, the food, cleaning, etc, it is simply not enough. Hopefully they will get more employees so the service can be at the level of the food!

Google
Bulgogi Bibimbap is so good. Fried wings and strips are ok. We came in at noon and restroom is so dirty with overflowing trash. Music only plays a chorus of a song on repeat the whole time.

Carolyn A.

Yelp
I had a great experience, largely thanks to the outstanding customer service. The staff was attentive and friendly, making sure every aspect of my meal was perfect.

Yelp
Service is great! I got the small mixed deal and it was ok. The spicy definitely had a kick and the Korean BBQ is great flavor. After you get through that delicious batter, the rest of the chicken is underwhelming. Some of it's super dry and what is nice and succulent lacks flavor so I wish I got a dipping sauce. The wings were pretty sparse on the meat, basically all batter. I will warn about the booths next to the windows. Thought it'd be great to sit by the window, but the light strip at the bottom has come off and the adhesive has a slew of dead bugs stuck on it, so that was quickly off-putting so I pivoted to a table more in the restaurant.

Yelp
Cmon Bonchon...Whats going on? Back when you opened your chicken was the best and now over the last 2 visits I've had the chicken has been mid. Drumsticks and wings were overcooked and dried out and the sauce has changed as well...No longer savory sweet and spicy...I couldn't even tell the sauce was there now...huh Get your act together because there are too many Korean Chicken spots to choose from doing this better.

Yelp
We wanted to love this place as we have loved other Bonchon locations and this is closest. We had 2 orders placed for takeout. Our first order came out within 15 mins and the second an hour later. It appears they never put the second order in before the server left. The other server at the bar never checked on us and was focused on entertaining his friends. I had to check in and then learn they didn't have my order. Eventually we got our second order. They took our number and more than a week later we still have not received a call from the manager. Don't visit this location if you are looking for efficient and attentive service.

Hunty C.

Yelp
$20 for 10 pieces of the smallest wings. Airpod pro for comparison. Tastes good, but could of made them at home for half the price and twice the meat or got wings somewhere else cheaper and better quality.

Yelp
Having gone to the Bonchon in Glenview, IL, I opted for the Division location, which is closer to where I live. The sliders were very good. The bibimbap was bland. I think that there wasn't enough hot sauce given to me to mix into the dish. One little cap full was just enough for a drizzle. Service was hands-off except for the refills on water. There was no constant hovering and "Is everything okay?" I was fine with that, as I could enjoy my meal. I would have to try some of their other Korean menu items. The Glenview location seems to serve more flavorful dishes. And that may be because of a high concentration of Koreans that frequent that spot. Division may cater to the common palate that comes through.

Yelp
Food and service were great at this location. It was my first time at a Bonchon and I will definitely return again Shameer told me about the menu and what he recommended. The kitchen was gracious enough to let me try some of their wings and it was genuinely really delicious. Personally, I love spicy foods and their spicy Korean sauce was very good and had the perfect flavor and kick to them. I also had their spicy chicken fried rice and it hit the spot. I will definitely return and I appreciate Shameer's top tier service and suggestions

Ellie C.

Yelp
Spicy chicken: Not enough sauce! Tastes like they just whispered the flavor onto the chicken Yangyum chicken: Good sauce! They drenched it too so that was nice. Overall the meat itself was flavorless and it wasn't crunchy. Sauce saved it though Rice: wet and mushy on the bottom Pickled daikon: I have no idea how this daikon had no flavor. Not even a vinegar flavor. I genuinely don't understand how this happens..? It should be pickled! It was just wet daikon lol To top it all off I got food poisoning :( so I gotta give this 2/5. Idk if it was the rice or chicken or maybe even the daikon? 3.5/5 if I didn't get food poisoning Service was fast and nice. Ordered my food and it was ready for pickup within 5 minutes somehow

Yelp
Not quite sure what is going on at this place, 2.5 years ago it was great chicken, had to wait a bit when ordering, but it was always fresh, and super crispy, crunchy like it should be. Kim chi was good too. All a bit pricey (It is wicker park) but still good for lunch once in a while. Then there was some big change, and with it, disappointment. The past 3 times i have ordered here (past 6 months or so) I have been very disapointed, 3 strikes you are out. I am never going back! Chicken wings are smaller and not crispy like they used to be (different breading or cooking process?), boneless chicken pieces are not even breaded like the wings (isn't that why we go here?) and taste like they came is a frozen bag and thrown in the fryer. Kim chi tastes like it was made a week ago and kind of wilted. Even the glass noodles aren't anything as good as they were 2 years ago. it's like the good cook, just left or something. Fries are only good if you eat them within 3 minutes of coming out of the fryer, and forget delivery, the wait time just makes everything soggy and taste like it was heated in a microwave. Sorry BonChon, I did love your wings and that amazing double fry and your light sauces, but something happened and what you had is no longer. You have lost a loyal customer.

Yelp
Loved the tacos I would definitely get them again. The Korean donuts were warm and delicious. I want to go back and try the wrap. I also had the Bulgogi fries but they looked so good and they were good that I did not get a chance to take a picture of them. I ordered take out from there through Yelp and the process was quick and seamless, my food was ready when I ordered it to be.
google avatar

Kevin Z.

Yelp
Got delivery. Their wings were surprisingly crispy despite sitting for a while before we enjoyed. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed. There wasn't too much sauce/flavoring on the wings so maybe that played a part, but I prefer this over soggy wings. Rice cakes were cooked soft but not overly so. Excellent food and very fast delivery.

Yelp
Definitely one of our fav places to get Korean chicken wings! Our favorite flavors are soy garlic and the spicy option! Can't go wrong with them. My partner always runs in to get some and haven't complained about their service once!
google avatar

Vuong H.

Yelp
Ordered a combo and the drumsticks were not cooked all the way through. When we took a bite into the chicken, none of them were warm enough or felt like they just came out of the fryer. The chicken was cold like they left it sitting at room temperature before serving. The next day, my friend who ate the more red drum got food poisoning. When we told our waiter that the wings weren't cooked he was confused and didn't know what to do. He asked us what he should do? He ended up bringing the few wings we had left for the kitchen to reheat or refry, and didn't replace the uncooked chicken we had. Overall, bad customer service and I am never coming back here again after this experience.

Yelp
Just horrible ! And a waste of money ! The portions have gone down in size as well! This was my last time ! The quality of the food has gone down and it's just not good anymore !

Yelp
Surprisingly the best takoyaki I've had, me and my friend try every takoyaki if the restaurant offers it and out of five places so far, this is the best atm. Good crunch, hot inside, and tasty sauce. The chicken katsu was a bit harder and not as tender, but the coleslaw that came with was a great pairing to help. The tteokbokki was spicy and cheesy and stayed hot well. We loved the addition of the two fried seaweed rolls, perfect to dip the sauce in and yummy contrast in texture to the soft chewy rice cakes. The two entrees were big portions and we found ourselves taking one home to go! The atmosphere was cozy and we liked the big window for natural light, but almost was more of a bar type feel. Definitely worth your buck for a good meal!!

Dan A.

Yelp
Ordered the chicken strips with pickled radish got the chicken strips but they gave me Coleslaw instead of radish

Stephanie F.

Yelp
The best Korean fried chicken! Great fast casual option. Go to item is Bulgogi Fried Rice. 10/10 every time!

Yelp
I've had Bonchon at other locations (lots of times in Philly) but never takeout before. When my girlfriend and I ordered from here over the weekend we were cautious if it would hold up, but the food turned out great. We got an order of 10 wings and 10 strips, each half soy-garlic and half spicy sauce. We also got a chicken katsu meal and an order of tteobokki (rice cakes in a sweet spicy sauce). Even after sitting in the boxes while getting delivered, the chicken was still pretty crispy and hot when it reached us. Maybe not exactly as much as when you dine in and it arrives at the table, but they definitely still had the signature crisp that Bonchon is known for (from the Korean style of double frying the wings)! The soy garlic sauce a nice balance of savory and sweetness, while the spicy sauce is more intense and packs a serious kick. The katsu was also freshly fried and still crisp despite getting steamed a bit in the plastic delivery container, and came with nice sides of katsu sauce, spicy mayo, and cole slaw. The only thing that wasn't up to par was the tteobokki, with a sauce that was a bit thinner and less savory than other Korean places I'm used to. But it's definitely not a big deal since the main draw is the delicious, crispy on the outside juicy on the side Korean chicken that Bonchon is so famous for. Whether you eat there or get delivery, Bonchon is defintiely worth a try. The portions, prices, and taste are pretty similar to other locations around the country, which really shows how solid their quality control is.

Yelp
My favorite place to get Korean fried chicken! Bone in or tenders - you can't go wrong either way! Definitely recommend adding fries to it as well. I would say the chicken is the best thing on the menu, while the other items couldn't stand up to it.
google avatar

Sam J.

Yelp
For months, every time I attempt to online order after adding an item, it says half & half sauce is unavailable, even though the individual sauces are available. Just remove it from the menu if you don't want to offer it!
google avatar

Bryant S.

Yelp
Bonchon is pretty good. You might be able to find better Korean fried chicken. You can definitely find worse. The chicken is good. But man, they really struggled yesterday with orders. I pre-ordered my wings a few weeks in advance. When I showed up, it was a zoo. I ended up having to wait about an hour after my scheduled pickup time.

Lefaire M.

Yelp
Tht food was horrible and for almost $17 for a lunch special I definitely will not be going back theee a 1st and Last time!!! 5 thumbs down do not try it i will waste ur money!!! I whether had McDonalds instead!!!

Cindy A.

Yelp
Boneless wings with yangnyeom sauce is good. Could use more sauce. Seasoned fries weren't good and still needed sauce

Isabella D.

Yelp
Food and service was great. Good environment. Never been here but loved the chicken katsu, pork dumplings and BBQ wings. Definitely recommend to stop by and check it out

David F.

Yelp
Went here for lunch today to try for the first time. Ordered wings and was told they didn't have Korean bbq flavor, how do you not have one of your three flavors? Ordered a Pepsi was told they are out of Pepsi, they sell canned Pepsi for $3 you think they could run down the street to target and get some. Food came out quick but was cold so that leads me to believe it was sitting and reheated. Only gave it 2 stars because the server was really nice and kept checking to see if anything else was needed. Side note the bathroom was not well maintained
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
I've been here twice and had the bibimbop and chicken Katsu. Chicken was unbelievably dry. Rice was cold and the cole slaw,it came with, left a weird aftertaste. Bibimbop was only ok. Server ignored me after dropping the food off. Restroom had some type of mold growing in places.
google avatar

Simply R.

Yelp
I went to Skokie location and got the chicken wings. Half BBQ and half Garlic with a side of ranch and it was very good. Worth the drive there. I also got fries which I was not so amazed y and the coleslaw was a big no for me.
google avatar

Dalia D.

Yelp
I got their appetizer tacos with chicken. Lots of heat!!! Very tangy and lots of cabbage and sauce I might come back for their chicken. For pickup orders, just call ahead. I tried to walk in but they make the food as ordered so I had to wait. The place itself was very large and clean! I felt they had reasonable pricing.
google avatar

Erin J.

Yelp
This was my first visit to a Bonchon! I was so excited. I ordered the seasoned fries and then the chicken strips, half and half. I chose the pickled radish to go along with the chicken. My only complaint, which is why I'm giving a 4 versus a 5, were the limited option for sizing. I ordered the smallest portion available for chicken, which was 8. I only ate 2, and there was no way I could take the food with me, so it seemed to wasteful. The taste was very good. The spicy was hotter than I expected but I would absolutely order it again. I can't wait for a Bonchon to open in my area, which should hopefully be in the next year, from what I've heard! I'll be sure to take friends so they can help me eat those 8 pieces. :)

Demetri Z.

Yelp
Crispiest fried chicken available. Nicely done. Spicy sauce it quite spicy. Korean bbq is a nice medium
google avatar

Kennedy H.

Yelp
Boneless chicken had zero sauce on them? Bonchon is a chain there are far better local options - 0/10 recommend

Samantha M.

Yelp
Today I ordered delivery and my spicy wings were so gross. I usually over from them and get half and half but today the spicy wings didn't even taste the way they usually taste. Instead it tasted like old buffalo sauce and it didn't taste any gochujang. Very disappointed.
google avatar

Diana G.

Yelp
We came with a Groupon to give it a try. Service was friendly and prompt. Chicken and fries were nice and crispy, I wasn't wowed by the flavors. I really liked the bulgogi fried rice. Good flavor and cooked very nicely.

Megi M.

Yelp
This is usually my go to fried chicken spot. I'm not sure what's going on recently. I tried placing a order by phone with no answer. I then placed my order online and ordered it for curbside pick up. I called 5 times and still no answer. I ended up just going in to pick up the food myself. Annoyed but still excited for the food. As I begin eating the chicken I noticed it's not even cooked properly! The chicken is raw in the middle. What a waste of $60. Worst part is I'd love to call them but they won't even pick up!

Yelp
A coworker of mine ordered at Bonchon which prompted me to look further into it via Yelp. I found that I already had it bookmarked which could have been after I spotted pictures of the Korean fried chicken via pictures shared by Yelper, Sarah S. As I share this review I am temporarily abstaining from eating meat, so while scrolling the menu two options that caught my eye were the French fries and the House fried rice. I ordered via Yelp with Grubhub delivery being that I was at work at the time. I ended up ordering the House fried rice plain (with egg). It took a total of twenty minutes from the time my order was confirmed via Grubhub with Bonchon to its delivery to my building which is very acceptable. A big kudos to the Grubhub delivery driver who actually called and texted me once he arrived with my order. I immediately came downstairs to pick it up once I received his call as well as a picture text of my order next to the security desk. Now as for my order it was beautifully presented. I always share a visual of it with my coworkers to get their confirmation. Just another way to underhandedly promote the restaurant I have ordered from and best believe they will know how it tasted too, hehe. The House Fried Rice was certainly good! It had this sweet taste that my tastebuds will surely want again. However in the meantime I would love to try those French fries which caught my eye as well. To conclude, I had an overall great experience ordering at Bonchon. I would gladly order from again on a different date whether it be takeout or delivery. ~Blessings~ Thomas G

Yelp
I've never had Korean fried chicken and I was curious so I popped in one afternoon when I had the chance and to see the craze behind this chicken. An earlier review recommended when you first try it you should dine-in because if you order delivery you might lose the crunch. I TOTALLY AGREE. The fresh crunch you get fresh out the oil is really good and makes you want to do ASMR videos or podcast for a living. I ordered the 20pc half and half as they had a special. After the first bite, I made the decision to get my game day wings from here instead of wingstop. You get more chicken and better filling with a consistent crunch that has you coming back for the next bite. For those who enjoy spicy food, the spicy wings have a more spice in the back of your throat that grows with every piece, rather than a tongue flapping, lip burner. Most of the spice is the sauce drizzled on top. So if your still hungry and about to tap out just take the skin off. If I could I would actually give this place a 4.6, because the special seasoned fries just have ranch seasoning on top for $7 (how do I know? I've done the same at home) All in all a great place I recommend with great service and den you priced for the area.

Aidan G.

Yelp
Food was great, service was fast. I had the 24 piece boneless wings and they were amazing as usual. Thanks all!

Yelp
Chicago, Wicker Park location. Terrible, will never order from this place again. When a customer orders and is charged for dishes and sides for delivery but the customer only receives half the order, you would think the restaurant would at least try to make it right. Instead, I was told to go talk to Grub Hub as if they had anything to do with the restaurant not having available a dish that the customer paid for but restaurant didn't bother to mention it but happy to take your money. Also, what do you think the customer's experience is when customer orders a dish that is supposed to get sides but the sides are no where to be found...enjoy your meat only dish tonight, sorry. Which by the way, is very bland and you end up dumping half a bottle of Siracha sauce and soy sauce to make the dish recognizable. Beware Negatives for food, service, and respect

Yelp
Came in Sunday 3/26 with a couple of friends... we ordered to go but ate it at the table. The lady was extremely rude, wouldn't answer the phone and when we went to grab a couple of waters she told us we can't eat to go food inside the restaurant. When we went to grab our waters she grabbed our waters brought it to the table to tell another friend we can't eat our take out food we bought at the restaurant. We were the only ones at the restaurant at the time. She told us we had to tip her. Made no sense. She was giving us dirty looks the whole time and made it a terrible dining experience. Please have nicer restaurants staff, service was terrible.

Diana E.

Yelp
By far best friend rice in Chicago. The lunch specials are great priced. Would definitely recommend the chicken fried rice and pot stickers to anyone trying the place out. The staff is always very friendly when I go. Love the place. Such a great vibe.

Yelp
I'm obsessed! Bonchon was really hyped up when the first Chicagoland location opened and I never ended up going because of the long wait times. When this location opened up right in my hood, I had to finally try them. Well I finally got there Thursday night and liked it so much I went back for lunch today. Yep, I'm a big fan. Bonchon double deep fries their chicken which is the true Korean way to get it done. It gives you a perfectly crispy skin with very plump & juicy meat inside. You can get strips, bone in or boneless wings or drumsticks, then you can get soy garlic sauce, spicy sauce or a mix of both. I'm all about the soy garlic sauce, I absolutely love the flavor. It's different than the usual Korean chicken sauce but it stands up against the best of Korean chicken wing spots. They do cook to order so expect to wait 20-30 minutes after ordering for your chicken. Their pot stickers are solid and also offer the same flavoring as the wings. I liked them but they seem a bit expensive at $12 - it was a big portion though. Their french fries are some of the best I've had! Only $5 for a pretty big portion. You can also get them seasoned for a few dollars more but the plain fries are great without any seasoning. You don't even really need ketchup because the fries are so tasty they can be eaten on their own. I'd love if they added some cool dipping sauces though. They are currently BYOB which is fab, but will be getting their liquor license so soon they will have their own drink offerings. Service was excellent both times I was in! All staff was very friendly and warm. I'm really happy Bonchon opened a short walk away from me. They have some lunch specials on week days and I'm really looking forward to trying them so I can experience more on their menu.

Yelp
I got take out from Bonchon on Saturday night after wanting to try this place for awhile. I ordered a Combo wing half and half, a bulgogi Bibimbap, and tteokboki. The wings were great, I would love to try them fresh at the restaurant, but I loved both the spicy and the sweet. I would probably get the sweet if I had to choose one, but both were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The bulgogi bibimbap was good, nothing special but a decent option. I liked the sauce and the way the rice was cooked. It was sticky complemented the rest of the bowl well. The tteokboki was terrific. Really spicy and cooked well. I would also love to have this fresh at the restaurant. All in all, I enjoyed Bonchon and will be back to eat in person.

Yelp
The food was delicious, service was ok but overall experience was cold. We went on a more chilly day, on division most of the other restaurants had their dining umbrellas out because its a tree lined street and heat lamps due to the weather change. Bonchon only had table and chairs available but keep the heat lamps and umbrellas in the dining room in eyeyesight of street views. Not sure of the reason why but we went because if a Groupon and drove from Hyde Park. Because of the distance I couldn't carry out because I wanted to taste it fresh and have a real Bonchon experience. I will say the food was wonderful. We had a 12pc dinner special with half spicy, half soy wings. They starter was some very tasty & crunchy fries that were cooked perfectly. The wait was not long at all so our chicken, fried rice, cole slaw and picked radishes came out pretty quickly. The chicken was also cooked perfectly with the right amount of crisp on the outside and super moist on the inside. Very flavorful and great sauce. The spicy was no joke for my palette but soo good. I was able to eat 2 pieces with the cole slaw to help with the heat. I would return but not to this location. Luckily we have one closer in China Town that ill visit. The food was delicious and worth 7 stars, but the experience with our new normal of dining outdoors due to COVID and trying to support businesses felt like a slap on the hand. I would say don't offer outdoor seating if you don't want to fully commit. Just my two cents.

Yelp
Dang. Place is currently only takeout due to Covid - parking is hard to find on a busy night but they do curbside pick up which is amazing The food travels well (the boxes did have holes so the food could steam and not become soggy) - the wings are crispy as ever and flavored amazingly (the hot wings can clear up your sinuses). Honestly if you're going , you absolutely need to get the wings and the fries. The bibimbap was a flop - sort of flavorless and could have used a million more sauces / definitely wouldn't get again. And the pork buns also amazing and flavorful

Yelp
Finally have a Bonchon more north of the city. Smart location since that is a very busy street of other eateries as well. The food there is actually really really good. Pricing however, is a bit on the steeper side. We had a mix box of wings & drums. In my opinion, the wings were tastier but lacking in size. It was such a huge difference size-wise. Now service, pick up was a nightmare... I placed an order over the phone and the person was having a very difficult time understanding my order when it was in English. I had to repeat myself numerous times. He was really rude as well. When we arrived, the order was still not ready and went to Wicker to come back for the order which still wasn't ready. Parking is a bit hard to find since that strip is very busy. If I feel like being a big spender, I would go to Bonchon but I wouldn't go on a regular basis. Quite pricey.

Yelp
It's Bon Chon, the KFC of Korea. You know what you're getting and you love it. It's delicious, accessible, entry level Korean fried chicken. The spicy isn't too spicy, the soy is nicely sweet the way we Americans love it. Get yourself a nice combo of the chicken pieces and the wings and mix and match two sauces. That's the best way to do it. The other dishes are underrated. I really like the fried rice. The bilgogi is very good too. And it's pretty consistent. I've never had a bad experience there. Sure if you want the hardcore Korean fried chicken we all know the famous places, but sometimes you want a little bit of fun sticky sweet goodness with your chicken. This is it!

Yelp
We got the Japchae, Kimchi Bacon House Fried Rice, and Soy Garlic Boneless Wings. I really liked the japchae. It was hot (temperature) and delicious. The glass noodles were very chewy and a bit hard to break. The fried rice tasted great as well but some rice were clumped together and the dish was almost at room temperature. I loved that the bacon was chewy. The soy garlic boneless wings were crispy on the outside and the sauce was ok. I could tell that soy was there but it could be more garlic-y.

Yelp
BEWARE! This place will steal from you. I live nearby and have come here several times over the past month strictly for one of the $4 draft beers. When I received my last bank statement, I noticed that I had been charged at least 6 times for beers that I did not order. Most recently, I was charged for 2 beers on September 1, AND I WAS NOT EVEN THERE THAT DAY. I used my debit card and did not notice until I looked at my bank statement. Needless to say, I will never return. Has anyone else had this experience??
