The 20 Best Bakeries In Paris 2024

"The Bontemps to-go-only storefront is a great option if you’ve snagged an invite to a dinner party (get a box of sablés), but if you’re looking for a proper sit-down meal, head to the tea salon next door. Lunch is served between noon and 2pm and includes things like tea sandwiches and big elaborate salads, and snacktime (or “gouter”) is between 3-5pm. If you come by then, order a slice of cake or some of those signature sablés, which come in flavors like choco banana and coconut cream." - sara lieberman, emily monaco

The Best Bakeries in Paris, According to a Local | Condé Nast Traveler

"This dollhouse of a pastry shop and tea salon is family-run, led by pastry chef Fiona Leluc who turned an obsession with sablés (shortbread cookies) into a fully-fledged business. She and her sister Fatina antiqued all of the beautiful decorative details in both the shop and tea salon, from vintage hanging tulip lights to dishware and dish cabinets. Velvety poufs and armchairs make for comfortable lingering indoors at the tea salon but when the weather allows, locals book ahead for a spot in the open courtyard. Shortbread (sablé) is the starting point for everything produced here. Heart-shaped or mini shortbread "sandwich" cookies burst with seasonal fillings (wild strawberry, passion fruit, blood orange; banana-rum; Sicilian lemon) while large, shareable tartes showcase the best of seasonal fruits and flavors, pecan to apple or Comice pear, which are made with the same light and delicate shortbread crust. At the tea salon, guests can also have a full lunch, brunch on weekends, or teatime which includes hot chocolate, coffee, or a selection of their own loose-leaf teas." - Lindsey Tramuta

The 14 Best Patisseries in Paris for Croissants, Cakes, and Eclairs - Eater

"The nostalgic sablé, a classic shortbread, is elevated to new heights at this Marais shop. The old-fashioned theme extends to the charming interior, which is kitted out with antique display cases, light fixtures, and porcelain cake trays. The sablés come in two sizes. The large tartes arrive with fillings like pecan, lemon curd, gianduja, and candied chestnut and pear. Then there are the individual bite-sized cookies, sandwiched together with light ganache, perfect for nibbling on the go." - Dayna Evans, Lindsey Tramuta

Google
I discovered this place on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. It’s an unusual and charming spot that offers a brunch menu à la carte rather than a buffet, which is a nice change from the usual brunch experience. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, making it a great place to enjoy a laid-back meal. Located in the lively République neighborhood, it’s a great option for those looking for a casual yet enjoyable brunch. A hidden gem without any pretension!

Very cute place, the staff is very nice and seating area cute with their porcelain collections too! Teas and desserts excellent. Above average prices for the desserts.

Google
Through a charming courtyard that’s is straight out of sleeping beauty (according to my 4 year old) you find this tea room which is totally charming. The surprise plate was so yummy and the teas (mine was 8€) are really lovely. The service is lovely and with a smile and they even gave us paper and markers when we asked for my daughter. So nice! Such a nice experience. Thank you!

Google
The place is very beautiful however, the deserts were very basic…. Specially the abricot one that was advised to us by the waitress… Hence the disappointment. The tea was delicious. That’s it, my honest review :)

Beautiful salon de thé with lovely setting and friendly staff. Had the Paris le splendour which taste amazing with pistachio plus strawberry with a crunchy base. The cold tea is also nice. There is a lovely garden outside. Great place to spend an afternoon.

Came here for post lunch dessert; an essential part of any meal. Lovely staff and beautiful, delicious desserts. Really appreciate the seasonal ingredients used in this “Rosa”. Ordered it based on staff recommendations and have no regrets. Also had a rich and flawless chocolat chaud. You have a choice of sitting outside on a breezy terrace or inside where the decor is lovely. Would recommend stopping here if you’re in the area!

Google
Great service, efficient communication, friendly staff and magical space. We were provided excellent customer service. All responses were prompt and professional. The food was very good and tasty. Coffee was normal. The prices are expensive. 12€ for a lemon cake while you can take it as take away for 4€… find this a bit absurde. But the atmosphere is incredible and the staff very lovely.

Yelp
This is my favourite secret Pâtisserie / pastry shop that I shouldn't tell you about. Everything about this Pâtisserie is perfection. Their lemon cake is legendary throughout my group of Parisian friends. Is captures the essence of a lemon and has tons of lemon zest in a dense, rich, chunky slice of cake that can be shared. My other favourites are the small sablé cookies that are similar to shortcake cookies. They always have seasonal flavours, so the flavours often change. Today I had one that was filled with a rich passion fruit custard with a tart sweet gelée of Passion fruit on top. It was a tiny morsel, but was magnificent because it had so much flavour!!! Right now they also have a Madagascan Vanilla one, a Tonka chocolate and a lemon which is called a Citron in French. You can buy items to go in the front, but walk into the interior courtyard and you will discover a beautiful, tastefully decorated secret garden light-filled restaurant in the back. Wow, what a surprise. I have purchased the lemon cake & the sablés many times, but I had no idea that there was a restaurant in the back that serves meals and afternoon tea. It is my new favourite hang-out in the Marais. It is quiet so it's perfect for a business meeting or meeting with a friend where you can hear each other talk! Be sure to say hello to Aston the lovely, friendly labradoodle who follows around Vincent the owner of Bontemps (with his wife.) At Christmas time they also make Bouches de Noel, the cakes that look like Christmas logs. Last year we purchased three from three different famous places and everyone agreed that the cake from Bontemps was by far the best one.

Yelp
We all Absolutely love this place. My fav bakery ever. Every trip we make, we always have to stop by and get many things. We have tried their cakes, cookies, and lemon cake. Everything has always been delicious- it's usually one of our first stops when we get into town. Absolutely delicious- we can't wait to come back again on our next trip! Enjoy

Yelp
Absolutely stop here if you're in the area. Adorable inside and every single thing you try will be delicious. The lemon cake was out of this world.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this bakery while waiting for Marche des Enfants Rouges to open. It is tiny and absolutely adorable. The woman working there was extremely friendly, especially considering we were English-speaking Americans! We were greeted with a warm smile and a sample of their hazelnut cookies. We picked up a few items and enjoyed them later that night at our hotel. Tres bon!

Yelp
Loved this place. I had the pleasure of going for lunch here with some co-workers and not only is it stunningly pretty full of pinks, blues and browns, the food was to die. We shared the mezze plate and I had the charcuterie plate while my colleagues had the tartes and the gnocchi, followed by a bunch of desserts. The truffled ham was amazing! And I would eat it all day, everyday if I could. The pastry of the tarte was also something special to note as it was flakey and delicious. Then the desserts, they were a dream as I hate when all you taste is sugar but these were rich in flavour and not overly sweet. I would recommend this place to anyone going to Paris. It is definitely worth the effort to go to.

Yelp
I'm a pastry chef and I've been living in Paris for 2y. A friend recommended this place to brunch and it exceeded my expectations in terms of decoration, ambiance, details, service. It's a place where I'd come back for tea time with someone special just for the experience of the place. In my experience is extremely overpriced for the food you get, you're paying more for the place than for the food itself. You get served several small portions of dishes that share many ingredients between them, there's a lot of leafs/lletuce in all of them, and the flavors are not strong enough. The brunch is not worth it but maybe dessert and coffee/tea would be much better.

Yelp
I don't know why this place has such mediocre ratings! The interior is small but beautiful, decorated like a jewel box. The speciality are tiny layers of sablé and some sort of filling -- the hazelnut/chocolate was my favorite. Although they are small, the price (less that 2 euro a piece) was reasonable for something so tasty. And the service was very friendly.

Yelp
Small and simply beautiful boutique specializing in "sablés". One of my favorite shops to kill a sugar craving on a lazy Sunday afternoon or get little presents (great alternative to macarons btw). You can choose from the heavenly tasting about macaron-sized little pastries, actual and equally beautiful gateaux, larger sablés (round or heart shaped) with different fillings and of course the ultimate Sicilian lemon cake (always take one for the road or to take home! The only product not containing sablés) The cake lady is absolutely lovely, patient (both to French people and tourists). She explains everything, gives tips on how to store the precious goods, lets you even sample a sablé here and there (or even a pastry). Treat yourselves, people!

Yelp
We found this little shop when we were exploring Paris. It was 3 years ago now and I still think about those little cookies! The buttery crisp, the creamy center, the vanilla taste that can only come from real vanilla bean. The women who helped us were absolutely lovely. I follow them on Facebook just so I can see what they are up to. I highly recommend a stop here when you are in Paris. You won't regret it.

Yelp
Very pretty shop with mini sablé "sandwiches" as their specialty (actually, I'm not even sure if they sell anything else?) it's not cheap (I got a box of 8 and it cost €14) but for a special treat or a little gift, it's still pretty affordable. If you're into more luscious desserts with lots and lots of cream heaped on top with crème choux added for good measure (like a st. honoré) or really thick chocolate cakes, clearly this is not going to be your thing. But I think they make great nibbles for afternoon tea, without being too much. (I have a feeling this place is going to be super popular among Japanese folks, if it isn't already. The subtle flavored and not-over-the-top sweetness with the pastel color decoration reminds me of "French style dessert cafes" in Tokyo.) The owner (or the manager?) who helped me pick the flavors was super friendly. It's a bit out of the way for me, but I would stop by again if I am ever in the neighborhood. It would also be a great stop to bring your visitor friends who are into prettily presented pastries.

Yelp
AMAZING pastries! small line - wait of about 10 minutes, but TOTALLY worth it. Amazing flavours and choses, lovely staff. i would HIGHLY recommend making a special trip just for Bontemps!
