The 21 Best Restaurants In Margate - London - The Infatuation

"A meal at Bottega Caruso feels like the manifestation of all your Italian holiday home dreams, in Margate. This tiny Campanian spot is a flickering living room of a restaurant from Thursday to Sunday evenings (it’s lunch-only on Wednesdays). Books and jars of tomato sauce sit on the shelves beside you, and bowls of hearty pesto-clad gnocchi in front. Its changing menu is as irresistible as the homely, amiable atmosphere—and polpette di pane al sugo (bread balls in sauce) or light-as-a-feather slabs of tiramisu will live long in the memory. Bear in mind this place only has just over half a dozen tables, so booking is essential." - jake missing, daisy meager, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

"A former pub plays host to this sweet little osteria offering southern Italian fare, often using ingredients from the chef-owner's home region of Campania. There's a homespun charm to the place, so it's only right the hand-made pastas form the core of the menu. The rest of the simple, rustic cooking consists of small plates and snacks; look out for the 'polpette di pane al sugo', where bread has been used to fashion a 'meatball' of sorts. The same team run a deli a few doors down, which transforms into a wine bar at weekends that's ideal for a drink before or after dinner." - Michelin Inspector

Margate’s Best Restaurants for Sunny Margate Weather in Kent, England | Eater London

"It is testament to Margate’s recent resurgence that a restaurant, deli and fresh pasta shop — specialising in the cuisine of Campania, in southern Italy — is a viable business in this small English seaside town. Bottega Caruso imports artisanal produce from an area called Sannio including cheeses, salumi, nduja, wine, pickles, olive oil, the company’s own family’s bottled tomato sauces and jars of preserved cime di rapa. The joyous and generous weekly-changing menu might include escarole, kale and bean stew; braised cuttlefish, squid, peas and Jersey Royals; troccoli pasta with wild sea bass and bottarga; or cavatelli pasta with asparagus and broad beans. One for lovers of food and of Italy." - Adam Coghlan

Came down to Margate for a long weekend/stayed in a local Airbnb & host recommended to us to try this place… The wife being Italian, and it being dog friendly we thought we’d see how the place was for dinner… They managed to squeeze us in early which suited us as they had a big party coming later on in evening. We were in a private room at the end of the restaurant, which was perfect with our dog. The young waitress gave us menus and was back shortly after to take the order, as when we arrived there was no one else in the restaurant. Went for the anti-pasta style entree served on a small side plate, which was tasty and shared with the my wife. She enjoyed the pumpkin on plate. Order two plates of pasta, again fairly tasty and a wine for the entree and wine for the main course. Tiramisu for dessert. Overall, the food was to a high standard and the service good. The bill was £90 for dinner. Which wasn’t too bad compared to what it would cost in London….. The restaurant is in the old market area so good location and has a sister restaurant a couple of doors up which is a wine bar style place. Which would be good to try next time we were down in Margate.

A gorgeous family run restaurant with seasonal, Italian food at its heart. I love that they incorporate local producers where possible in the food they serve, it’s a nice little nod to the restaurant’s British home. This meal was a few months ago and I forgot to leave my review however, I highly recommend it and still think regularly about the torta caprese (chocolate cake) with sour cherries and crème fraîche. It was fabulous. Out of the two pastas we ordered, the slow cooked pork sausage ragu was our favourite. It was super meaty and unctuous. Did I mention that the pasta is homemade and they use grains grown in Kent?! Lovely stuff. I’m going back again soon and cannot wait!

Pure magic. This place blew me away - not even sure where to start. Food-wise both their wet cured beef with parmesan and the home cured coppa was melt-in-the-mouth perfect, the ziti was hearty heaven, the verdura e fagioli was a proper ratatouille moment...i want to learn to cook like that! Every plate felt so carefully and lovingly calibrated. And then the tiramisu was so gorgeously pillowy and balanced - no element jumping out too sharply - i could have eaten two of them. The service staff were also so attentive and dialled in too - they seemed to adjust their approach cleverly per table (we were eating casually without much plan - but I could see other tables having a more classic traditional a la carte starter, main, dessert etc...they managed both with ease). Mimi and Lily were clearly run off their feet but they handled it with such grace - and they/the kitchen staff were having fun together! They created such a beautiful atmosphere in that room. Exquisite - how eating out should be.

We stumbled upon this lovely Italian and decided to eat here as it was the first time we had *ever* seen ziti on the menu, of Sopranos fame! We've been cooking it at home for years but it was a treat to taste how it is supposed to be made. We got on well with the staff - very attentive and friendly. They also sold this delicious alcohol-free bitter orange drink called Crodino that I couldn't get enough off. Topped off with refreshing sorbet in the sun... couldn't ask for more.

I had lunch at this restaurant and everything was absolutely delicious. I started with a mozzarella di bufala served with vignarola — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. Then I had ziti al ragù di salsiccia, perfectly cooked, hearty, and comforting. To finish, a light and delicious tiramisu, easily one of the best I’ve ever had. Despite the restaurant being very busy, the service remained friendly, attentive, and efficient. You can feel real passion both in the kitchen and in the dining room. A warm and welcoming place where I can’t wait to return!

Such a gorgeous restaurant. We managed to squeeze in with no reservation and were so glad to have eaten here. The beef ragù and tiramisu were 10/10. Would eat again.

Another fabulous meal courtesy of Simona, Harry and the team. Shout out to Mimi, attentive on the service as ever. The ‘beans and greens’ were as tasty as ever, nicely spiced. Our two pasta mains were amazing - very differently flavoursome - and these guys take ‘al dente’ to a different level! All washed down with glasses of highly sympatico, specially sourced, organic wine. I’d actually booked lunch for the wrong day 🙄 - they were full, but Harry kindly found us a table ‘al fresco’, which turned out to be a very pleasant sun trap… even in March! Well worth the 750 mile road trip from the French-Spanish border. Grazie, e arrivederci 👋!

We were lucky to grab lunch here before we left Margate and are so glad we did. The food is really gorgeous. I love how it’s seasonal so you’ll never get the same thing twice if you go at another time of year. Everything was fresh and beautifully seasoned. The service was lovely. It was a gorgeous way to end our stay. Thank you!
