The Best Bars on New Orleans’s Bourbon Street | Eater New Orleans

"The stage is set for a classy good time at Bourbon ‘O’ Bar in the Bourbon Orleans Hotel. Exposed brick, a long roomy bar, an eye-popping mural, and local art invite a slightly older crowd in for date night. Catch local talent like songbird Ingrid Lucia every night of the week. There are nibbles like crawfish quesadilla at the bar, along with a menu of classic cocktails." - Beth D’Addono

This place is a cozy nook in NOLA. Great live music! They offer a proper 6 Minute Ramos Gin Fizz. Instead of a bartender/s having to shake it for the full 6 minutes, they have a machine (photo of it on the bar provided). According to their menu, they do not make a proper grasshopper but did not try it to see if it at least tasted good.

I came here 3/5 on a whim & so happy I followed my instincts. I’m so lucky to always be at the right place at the right time. We had the best bartender Dylan and he was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! He knew a lot about the drinks was very friendly and attentive. Throughout my entire trip I didn’t really sit at any bars and if I did, it would not compare to this one. This place is an absolute hidden gem and every drink I had here was top-tier. I will 100% be coming back.

Amazing music, drink and vibes. I recommend it if you want to find a place that has jazz. I went there on Tuesday night after 11.00p.m.

Google
Awesome atmosphere in the evening to enjoy a drink and listen to a jazz band play. Got a great sazerac from the bar and enjoyed the show. Staff is friendly, courteous, and fast. Comfy seating on the sides and not too loud or crowded. Perfect to chill and enjoy. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

We stumbled into Bourbon O Bar after a few indulgent days in NOLA, and it ended up being one of our favorite stops! I ordered my very first Ramos Gin Fizz—and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. It took the full six minutes to shake (as it should!), and the result was absolute perfection. Creamy, citrusy, and refreshing. Needing a break from fried everything, I went for the Cobb Salad—a great call. It was packed with bacon, blue cheese, and fresh veggies, and the dressing was a delicious surprise. We also shared the cracklins with pimento cheese, which were dangerously good—crispy, savory, and paired perfectly with that creamy, cheesy dip. My husband got the shrimp po’boy, and he was impressed—it was overflowing with shrimp, just the way it should be. The sidewinder fries were crispy and addictive, though a side of ketchup would’ve taken them over the top. Great cocktails, great food, and a nice little escape from the chaos of Bourbon Street. Highly recommend!

Google
This place is like being on a cruise ship from the 70's! Horrible karaoke-like music, bad drinks, bad food, and poor service...not much more to say. There are SO many amazing options in New Orleans so don't waste your money here. ADDENDUM: My review above was for a visit during happy hour (~6PM). I later walked by the bar in the evening and the band was SIGNIFICANTLY better so I'm adding a star to my review.

Google
Such fun! We were treated to an impromptu parade, followed by a concert. Great Hurricanes too!

Google
If you're looking for a top shelf craft cocktail this is the spot on Bourbon Street! And if you're extra lucky the bartender named Andrew will be the one making it for you while also making your day. Super clean bar, awesome music and amazing customer service. Make sure you ask Andrew to make you an old fashioned and you can thank me later.

Yelp
If you want an amazing cocktail, hit up Bourbon 'o' Bar and hope you get Bex! She made the most amazing cocktails we have had our entire trip-- service was great. The live music is really enjoyable and the atmosphere is nice. *update: we ended up going back for a second drink. And a third. Never ever did Bex disappoint. Cocktails were fabulous each time. Added bonus: The band in the evening played some of the best music/jazz we heard the entire trip!

Yelp
We stayed at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel. This is their bar. They have nightly jazz music. We went 2 nights and it was very enjoyable. They have tables, a couch and a bar. You can enter from the hotel or street. They have decent bar food as shown we had pork sliders and bourdon cakes. You can get a standard drink or a New Orleans special. They advertise grasshoppers and Sazerac

Yelp
One of the classiest bars on Bourbon St. the night we were there, Serabee performed and was terrific. Very relaxed atmosphere providing great atmosphere to relax and really enjoy the music. One touch I appreciate was a free water dispenser to help yourself. Cool idea more places should embrace.

Yelp
This is one of the bars that I'd like to return to and try another drink or two. We came later in the afternoon which was nice because it wasn't too crowded. The bartender made a beautiful Pimm's Cup which was so very good. It definitely makes you want to try something else. The bar area looked really nice and if a seat was open there I surely would have chosen that as it is fun to watch the bartenders do their thing and listen to good music at the same time. Definitely make this a stop while on Bourbon Street if you want a cocktail!

Yelp
Granted I stopped by late afternoon versus the witching hour (late night) but this bar was a fresh breath that jumped out at me as a walked down Bourbon Street for the first time during last week's visit. Most spots seemed 'wilder' but there was something about here that drew me in immediately. I chuckled at the labeled stools: "Lady Gaga was here"...and Queen Latifah and Tiffany Haddish. Cute touch. I love when you can tell the bartenders are seasoned (aka have seen it all) but are not jaded or rude. For working on this crazy street I was surprised by the ones who were behind the bar. From the kind door guy to the bartender who served me (the bald one, loved him). and as a solo patron/tourist, I felt very welcomed and watching them behind the bar I had a great deal of respect. Given crowd was light, ordered the "Six Minute-shaken Ramos Gin Fizz" because it sounded good, also out of curiosity how it would be prepared. Behold, they have the coolest contraption for that, and yes it took literally 6 minutes. But it was such a tasty cocktail that made other eyes jealous- also love the little details of care like the chilled glass and how he presented it so lovely and took his time. Thanks guys for a great experience and memory.

Yelp
This place got it ALL right. From the ambiance, to the live jazz music, to the fun and entertaining bartender (Howard, but I call him "Chip") to the drink - which was a fabulous Old Forester old fashioned. I'm really not sure how else to explain... it was pretty large inside and that day (I think it was a Monday?) it was pretty empty. But I found the live jazz to be fantastic. In fact, all the music I heard over my 5 days in NOLA were amazing. I am highly impressed by the talent on the street and in the bars, I hope all these folks get found out and make it big! Back to the O, though... this bourbon bar had a nice variety of bourbons on the menu and was a nice place to spend a couple hours while I waited on a friend while listening to fantastic music and chatting up the bartender.

Yelp
We stopped here on a Friday night and sat at the bar while listening to the live music. We grabbed a few drinks and appetizers and everything was great. All the various drinks we tried were well crafted and the bartenders were very attentive and quick. The appetizers, especially the boudin cakes, were delicious and came out quickly. Would definitely recommend.

Leah B.

Yelp
2 years later and this is still my favorite place in NOLA. The drinks are as perfect as always, and the jazz is always incredible. We came tonight and heard the amazing Brian Wingard (https://brianwingard.com/performance%2Dschedule ) play. He's here every Saturday and he's an absolute must-see! Love the Bourbon O!

Yelp
Bourbon Orleans Hotel is the perfect stay in the French Quarter, stones throw from the beautiful St. Louis Cathedral. Although it's location is in the French Quarter it's ideally tucked away in a corner. Request room facing courtyard with pool ;-) The hotel is the quintessential Nawlins style. It does have its own history too. We loved the location, enjoyed the amenities so much it's a Yelp book mark and we will return.

Yelp
We had so much fun the first time we visited this bar, that we ended up coming back a couple more times. Every bartender was engaging and just a ton of fun, which added to the overall experience and kept us coming back again and again. During our first visit, we tried the Absinthe Drip. Being my first time, it was a fun drink to watch in action. Next time around, I ordered their 6-minute Gin Fizz. Another really fun drink. Finally, I had more than one Pimm's Cup (another gin cocktail). This one was WAY too easy to suck down, but it was Mardi Gras - the day of indulgence. Every time we stopped in, there was live music to put us in the Mardi Gras mood. No matter what time of day it was, the party was always going. I definitely recommend visiting this bar for their amazing drinks, super fun bartenders and great music.

Yelp
Parts of Bourbon Street can be a loud and drunken mess. Yet, as you walk down (or off) the street far enough, things get quieter and classier. The Bourbon "O" Bar is a case in point, and a place Gayle and I enjoyed both a too brief respite one evening and the following afternoon. We shared drinks at a table by a window in the afternoon, but unfortunately it was too soon for music that we enjoyed the previous evening. We admired the "X sat here" chairs, conversed with the friendly bartender, and enjoyed settling in. We'd like to come back.
google avatar

Yelp
Ha !! Seth ! Thanks for the Amazing drinks and presentation!! Love how you shook my drink with the beat of the music.
google avatar

Maddy B.

Yelp
Ambience was nice, jazz band was good. But $9 for an 8oz draft beer? Highway robbery. As if people aren't squeezed enough these days. We had our one drink and never went back.
google avatar

Ana C.

Yelp
Cool Cat Club. Great atmosphere casual yet classy. We visited in the middle of the day and had some delicious beverages. I would totally go back when the music is happening. Comfy couches and lounge chairs.
google avatar

Janice K.

Yelp
we found this bar while on a drinking tour of Bourbon Street. The other times we've been to New Orleans we completely missed it. It's a great location and has couch type seating. We ended up coming here three times during our long weekend. The drinks were great, and the bartenders were awesome. drink prices were low for the area. Definitely check them out.
google avatar

Alli C.

Yelp
Stopped in for jazz and cocktails, and while I was slightly sad that I couldn't get a Ramos Gin Fizz (bartenders were out of egg white), my group enjoyed a variety of cocktails that were expertly prepared and listened to some AMAZING jazz. Love this intimate venue and hope to visit again
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best bars in the French Quarter. Anna, our bartender, was great. Craft cocktails, great stories, the best service. You have to stop in!
google avatar

Yelp
This bar changed our impression of Bourbon St. for the better! Uninterested in the usual ruckus, Bourbon O'Bar offered a fun and clean NOLA experience. We popped in on a Wednesday night to enjoy live music and some tourist fav drinks. Looking for a slow gin fizz spot? You found it. The bar has nice seating with a lounge area and tables. Friendly staff and (of course) a nice selection of bourbon.

Yelp
Freaking awesomeness bar staff for Mardi Gras. The fellas behind the bar held it down and always provided prompt and kind service when we stopped in during our stay. Always very welcoming. They worked hard. Drinks were cold and refreshing. I really enjoyed the Scarlet O'Hara The bar was lively and had a live band every time we walked in. Decorated nicely for Mardi Gras.

Steve S.

Yelp
Stopped in because there was some great jazz flowing out of the open doors. Walked into a super cool vibe and ordered a ginger beer, they home make it and it was amazing. If you like ginger beer (for non-drinkers) or mules it would be amazing in that. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Whenever I feel like an impromptu concert with a load of drinks, I know I can always count on Bourbon 'O' Bar for live music in an effort to laissez les bons temps rouler (#1). The vibe is everything the Big Easy is known for: intimate, unpretentious, local fun, and so much character. Located inside the Bourbon Orleans Hotel (#2), this cocktail bar exudes all the laid back and cozy vibes that I would never expect in a hotel establishment. There is a good amount of room to roam and live jazz music every single night starting at 4pm. In fact, they have a schedule of artists online here: https://www.bourbonorleans.com/event-calendar There's a lot of excellent cocktails to be had here. I am a lover of their brown sugar old fashioned ($12) as well as their fun selection of mules ($12). The vieux carre ($15) is a nice and strong cocktail consisting of rye whiskey, cognac, and a whole host of bitters and sweet vermouth. The seasonal pomegranate mimosa ($10) is deceivingly good, as is their classic hurricane ($15). There are also some quality mocktails, as well as bar bites (menu changes daily). Service is super professional, but laid back enough not to feel stuffy. It's hard to hear the staff at times when the music is blasting, but that's part of the price of admission. This is a great place for a date or a small group, and a nice place to start an fun evening. _____________ (#1) "Let the good times roll" (#2) https://www.yelp.com/biz/bourbon-orleans-hotel-new-orleans-6

Yelp
Wow. Amazing cool friendly bartender making us the best drinks! The 6-minute Ramos gin fizz was THE BOMB. Anna was great!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome place for a stiff drink, the bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly. Live music and attached to the Bourbon O Hotel. Check it out!
google avatar

Amanda K.

Yelp
I came here almost a year ago when I was in town for Krewe de Boo and my friends and I came here on the first night because I had stayed here before with my parents (hotel is haunted!). The bar was so cutely decorated for Halloween (very cute Wizard of Oz theme). They had a live jazz band playing and the cocktails were great. The bartender was so helpful and suggested so many delicious cocktails. We had a great time
google avatar

Steve Z.

Yelp
Although they are trying to update some things, you can still come in here and listen to good music. They have excellent craft cocktails. Although right ion Bourbon street, you kinda feel nicely tucked away. Go see Bryan, Andrew and Amy - outstanding mixologists.
google avatar

Eliza G.

Yelp
Hubby and I stopped in for drinks and stayed to listen to a live band. We sat at the bar. 5)3 bartenders were great. Very friendly funny and the drinks were on point. My husband had 3 of their signature cocktails all of which he enjoyed, I had a vodka soda, for the 6 drinks total, the bill was right around $70. Which for a tourist area is to be expected, but all of the drinks were strong. The atmosphere was fun but laid back.
google avatar

Niesha W.

Yelp
The food and drink were out of this world . Dino was the best server and so kind to me while at the bar for Mardi gra week

Patrick R.

Yelp
Hung out here for an hour and the band was soooo good! Drinks were also great and the acoustics made it easy to cary on a conversation.

Yelp
The food was great and full of flavor. Fast service. The drinks were good as well. The ambiance was great. The bartender was friendly. Most definitely will return.

Yelp
Outstanding location, right in the heart of the French Quarter!!!! Perfect way to start, middle , or end the day !!! We stayed at the hotel and frequently stopped in to enjoy the nightly music and the awesome bartender's !!!! The specialty drinks are incredible and so refreshing! I had the Midas Cup which is a combo of Vodka, champagne , pine apple and strawberries ! Can't wait to go back again!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Ahhh Bourbon O. A welcome respite from the crazy that is Bourbon Street. Swanky vibe and awesome cocktails, this place is like a little jazz oasis. They often have live music that you can enjoy without being sweated on by strangers. It's usually not too crowded so you can curl up with your boo on a couch or in a corner. Nice place for a nightcap after a date night dinner in the Quarter. I recommend a Roffignac or a chocolate martini.
google avatar

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Got the 6 minute Ramos gin fizz and husband got the hurricane. Both great. Bartenders are highly skilled professional bartenders.
google avatar

Todd Z.

Yelp
One of the best craft cocktail bars in New Orleans! Great service and wonderful drinks!
google avatar

Julia R.

Yelp
We stayed at the hotel and the vibes in this bar were immaculate- some of the best we found on Bourbon street on a Sunday night! The staff are all incredibly attentive and nice, and the bar even has laminated printouts detailing the history and ghost sightings of the hotel, and the history behind some of the classic New Orleans cocktails they serve. Which was super fun for history dorks like us! I ordered the 6 Minute Gin Fizz, which we learned only a handful of establishments make due to its complicated nature. Seth was our bartender and he was as knowledgeable as he was personable and fun to talk with. He made our last night in New Orleans a great one!
google avatar

Dwayne O.

Yelp
Bourbon O Bar Located in the heart of Bourbon Street, this little jazz bar is what you would picture New Orleans. Clean, plentry of seating, fun drinks and a great live Jazz Quartet. Would highly recommend this place to sit and listen to some sou d of New Orleans. Venue was clean and very nice
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
The most creative cocktail menu in New Orleans. You might not associate Bourbon Street with great cocktails, but this place will change your mind. I've been there three times. I've left happy three times. The bartenders are brilliant and happy to answer questions. Mostly, you'll just ask, "Why are you so awesome?" It's on my must visit list every time I visit NOLA. This last visit we were lucky enough to be there on the last day of the winter menu and the first day of the new spring menu. Plus, their brown sugar old-fashioned is the best old-fashioneds I've ever had, and I own a cocktail mixer company that makes old fashioneds.
google avatar

Nicole T.

Yelp
My first time in New Orleans- staying at the Bourbon Orleans hotel of course you have to visit the Bourbon O bar. Every visit was great! All of the staff is fantastic. I felt very welcome and safe. Nice break from craziness on Bourbon street lol. Bartenders like Bryan really make this place special. There is another bartender but unfortunately I didn't catch him name. Great bands play through the day to make it even better! Must stop here
google avatar

Ty S.

Yelp
If you want a top of the line drink while in New Orleans this is the place. I appreciate the love that was put into my lemon drop. The appetizers were perfect and we enjoyed trying them. The live band was great and the atmosphere was fun. Overall a wonderful experience, make sure you stop in if you are visiting New Orlean.
google avatar

Yelp
The music brought a friend and I in off the street. I tend to be attracted to other bars, a little more off the beaten path, but this an excellent bar in the Quarter for tourists that isn't full of Bourbon St. boozers who can't handle their liquor. If you're looking for a good time with no stress, good service, jazz, and strong cocktails - this has it all. There is music every night, and if you hate music no worries - they have wifi so you can bury your nose in your phone. It will please everyone! The bar is beautiful, lots of details to look at. They have TV's, one of which was playing a movie from the 60's. Cocktails can be a real show, they serve absinthe with all the bells and whistles, a machine that shakes your gin fizz for six minutes, and lit the rosemary in my bloody Mary on fire. Even the self serve water is extra, full of tons of lemons and limes. Go!
google avatar

Joe P.

Yelp
Excellent drinks, wonderful atmosphere. One of the best staffs in the country with Cheryl Charming* #shoutout. Very happy we found this place to spend the evening. Live music every night.

Quasar D.

Yelp
Not your typical bourbon street joint but right in the thick of it all. Healthy high end bourbon selection, clean as a whistle, and an all around comfortable joint. Get yourself a cocktail from Taz and listen to some great music. You won't be disappointed!

Mindy L.

Yelp
Everyone at this bar from the bartenders to the musicians were top-notch! Perfect spot to relax and meet with friends.
google avatar

Janet N.

Yelp
Hotel is great. Bartenders tend to be very pretentious and judgie. Stay here but get your cocktails elsewhere.
google avatar

Leondra G.

Yelp
The drinks and the atmosphere was great--the food was just okay. I ordered the mozzarella sticks which were your basic previously frozen & fried sticks & the chicken wings. Rather than a dry flour based batter, they looked and tasted like they were battered in a liquid flour base. The hot sauce that comes with the wings tasted like cocktail sauce and had a large ketchup base, something I also wasn't expecting. Overall the drinks were phenomenal but I was expecting more with the food.

Halle H.

Yelp
I used to recommend this bar as my favorite on Bourbon and one of the top 5 in the FQ. Not anymore...sadly service has gone downhill rapidly; both in drink quality and customer service (prices are still the same!) Bartenders loudly complain about how bad their situation is while also not serving customers...(for those that haven't been, you order at the bar so they're ignoring you while you're looking right at them at the front of the line). Very disappointing...used to be so amazing when Cheryl was there.
google avatar

Genevieve F.

Yelp
My Sazerac was really good but was minus the absinthe it absinthe rinse. Essentially what they make is not a sazerac but was just another version of the Old Fashioned at an abysmal price ($15.00!) it was in the Hotel and far, but just not where I'll come back and drink
google avatar

Grace T.

Yelp
Another stop on the cocktail walking tour. Live band for entertainment and the Rofunyaque (sp) drink.
google avatar

Iyawosita S.

Yelp
Every time I'm in Nola O come for at least 1 evening of cocktails. I love a cocktail made pretty with love while sitting and watching live music.Never over crowded, always consistent with quality and service.
