The Best New Restaurants In Austin: The Austin Hit List - Austin - The Infatuation

"Seemingly overnight, Georgian food has gone from nonexistent in Austin to having multiple dedicated spots. Bread Boat is the latest to set up shop, serving chewy, golden bread canoes filled with molten cheese, butter, and egg. The East Side restaurant is bare-bones—just white walls, a few small tables, and no wine license (yet)—but you’re here for khachapuri. Stick with the classic Adjaruli version, or try the one topped with slow-braised beef for something a little more rich." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs, matthew jacobs, nicolai mccrary, nicolai mccrary, nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs, matthew jacobs, nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs, nicolai mccrary, nicolai mccrary, nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs, nicolai mccrary, nicolai mccrary, nicolai mccrary

Austin’s New Restaurant & Bar Openings - Austin - The Infatuation

"Joining Austin’s very tiny scene of Georgian spots, Bread Boat is a bakery, wine bar, and restaurant in the former Salt & Time space on East 7th. The specialty here is khachapuri, the iconic “bread boat” usually filled with some combination of cheese, meat, and egg, but you can also get a handful of other small Georgian bites, plus coffee and wine." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs

Google
Legit Georgian food in Austin! This place will give you a happy belly. Casual environment, comforting and the khachapuri hits. Very friendly staff– and good service for a self-order spot. Can't wait to come back to try the wines and kharcho. A couple of requests for the owners - Can you add ajika, khinkali, lobio, and Georgian salad to the menu in the future plans as you grow :) Soooo good.

Alex Lin

Google
This place has 5 stars with 197 reviews (as of this review) for a reason. The smell that hits you when you walk in instantly transports you into the bakery, yet the atmosphere is very cool, ventilated, and good for dining. The food is very filling and surprisingly not too heavy for a bread boat filled with egg, cheese, and butter. The meat pies were a bit hard to cut but the crisp crust with the savory meat filling were spot on. Definitely come here if you are a bread lover!!

Google
I went thinking it would be tasty but primarily a means of experiencing another culture’s food. I mean, yes to both, but IT WAS SO GOOD. Vegetarian bread boat was excellent, as were the pesto/spreads we ordered to start. And the white Georgian wine was like nothing I’d had before. The owner was warm and eager to share about his country. I’d recommend to anyone—well, anyone who isn’t celiac or dairy free.

Google
We went for a brunch and ordered their classic bread boat and meat pie, we added an extra egg on the classic bread boat and it was phenomenal! The meat pie was too greasy for me but to be fair we were stuffed and picky, we had one slice and then my husband finished the rest for dinner. Note: one bread boat is easily shareable between two people. It takes a bit to get your food since they bake it fresh, plan accordingly.

Google
First time here. We got 3 diff things. Everything was great and we had leftovers. Fairly priced. Good food. Great customer service. They offer wine too if you’re inclined or wanna buy a bottle to go. And outdoor shaded seating

Google
I have always wanted to try a Georgian bread boat and these did not disappoint! Very rich and flavorful. High quality ingredients. Tastes super homemade. And just a fun thing to eat. Also a nice way to break up the food monotony in Austin! This place is clean, and all the staff are friendly. Great addition to the neighborhood. I will definitely be going back!

Google
The bread boat was amazing: honestly the vegetarian one is still half cheese and egg so it’s basically two badass dishes in one. I say this as someone who usually is contemptuous of vegetarian entrees. The meat pie was so buttery and aromatic with the meat and all of the breads were hot and fresh and perfect. Even the beets were a flavor blast as an appetizer. Service was helpful and they’re clearly proud of Georgian food which is great since they actually overdeliver so hard.

Google
Absolutely delicious! The khachapuri was warm, cheesy, and perfectly baked. Everything tasted authentic and fresh. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to try real Georgian food in Austin!

Yelp
I tried the Georgian bread boats for the first time and they were so good! The bread itself was incredibly soft and pillowy, and the melted cheese on top with the beef was perfection. Everything was super cheesy, rich, and unbelievably satisfying. I also loved the plain cheese bread boat, sometimes simple is best, and the cheesiness plus that soft bread was amazing. I wasn't as much of a fan of the meat pie, though. The meat was a bit dry for my taste. Still, the bread boats alone made the meal totally worth it! Also should try their stew. My husband was a big fan of it. Staff were very nice! It's a very casual/chill spot.

Yelp
Breadboat Austin delivers on the magic of Georgian khachapuri, and for cheese-and-egg lovers, it's every bit worth the wait. After years of daydreaming about this legendary "bread canoe", three of my favorite foods all melded together, I finally set out to try it. The journey was more epic than expected: three separate DoorDash mishaps and four long days of anticipation, each delivery drama building suspense rather than frustration. When the warm, golden loaf finally arrived, the first swirl of molten cheese and runny yolk in pillowy dough felt like a victory lap. The classic Adjaruli khachapuri at Breadboat is everything you'd hope, gooey, savory, and deeply comforting. Even compared to Austin's other cheesy carb offerings, the unique funk of Georgian cheese and the ritual of tearing and dipping truly set it apart. All this, after my mini saga, made the first bite an absolute triumph: Breadboat isn't just hype. For those who crave cheese, egg, and bread, it's a must-try - just maybe pick it up in person.

Yelp
I was excited to see another Georgian restaurant pop up in Austin area and had to try it. As their name suggests, they have bread boats or adjaruli khachapuri, but with meat and other toppings which I haven't seen elsewhere. We tried the herbed chicken and savory beef bread boats, the special beets dish, and a megruli cheese pie. I highly recommend the beef bread boat and the cheese pie, which was simple but amazing cheesy bread. The others were good but the chicken tasted like Mexican chicken so it wasn't as special for me and the beets come with a sour plum sauce which I love but the beets themselves were ok and a bit pricy. They have a kiosk to order from and the kitchen is open so the staff if right there to help you with the menu and you can see them making the boats. The space is nice and there's a side patio area that looks nice too.

Yelp
The food here is delicious!!!! Bread, cheese and meat... honestly how can you go wrong? The bread is fresh and fluffy, and the filling is generous, creamy, wonderfully seasoned! I mixed it all up before tasting everything individually because I was too busy talking, lol. But the mix was awesome. Also got the walnut pate appetizer which was sooooooo good! The three blobs are mixed with seasonings and each a different veg: beets, carrot, and green bean. Each has a distinct flavor -- I especially loved the green bean one. And it again comes with fresh housemade bread. And the three little peppers are stuffed with even more walnut pate and just so so so good! It's really all as good as it looks in the photos! Must come back for that meat pie --- we saw someone cut into it with a super satisfying crunch sound and rising steam. Everything is really super fresh here. Come, you won't regret it.

Yelp
Bread Boat is a newly opened Georgian Bakery / Cafe which primarily serves up variations of khachapuri -- essentially cheese filled bread, with an egg (yolk) on top, though they also offer meat pies and cheese pies, a beef stew, and a walnut pâté platter -- so it's a small, focused menu. I stumbled upon Bread Boat after wondering out of Radius Market on the opposite corner. When you enter you'll notice that the kitchen is setup like a bakery; they are kneading and shaping dough. To order in-person, you must go to the kiosk, tap swipe tap, and voilà, your order will be placed. You can also place an order on their Toast storefront. Upon placing your order, you'll wait around for a bit. Eventually, your food will come out. I ordered the savory beef version of their khachapuri to-go. It came in a small pizza box, and now I'm itching to go back and try more of their food. The fillings are savory, and the bread has a nice texture to it. The egg yolk ended up sorta like you'd find in a soft boiled egg, partially runny. Their food also smells amazing.

Yelp
I split the savory beef Khachapuri with a friend, and it was SO good. The bread had that freshly baked and just out of the oven smell to it. We thought it would be tough to cut through with a knife because it had a pretty thick crust, but it was surprisingly fluffy while still having a lot of substance. I read that you're supposed to mix the butter and raw egg yolk together and then rip and dip pieces of crust in it, so that's what we did. It seemed like the half that had just the butter, egg, and cheese would be kind of plain and the half with the slow braised beef would be the star, but both were amazing! The beef side was spicier than I'd expected, so they played well together. There's enough seating inside for 16 max, but when we were leaving, I spotted a really cute covered patio on the side with about double that, which should be really nice now that things are cooling down. Orders can be placed on two self service screens at the front, but the staff is really friendly and up for answering questions. Highly recommend having a meal here and then popping into the beautiful market/butcher shop two doors over for some goodies after.

Yelp
Came here for lunch early on a Sunday afternoon. The service was fast and friendly. The indoor space is fairly small, we were able to get seats, but it can get overwhelmed with noise pretty easily. I was surprised at how much takeout business they seemed to have, cheese boats don't strike me as a food that would travel particularly well, but there was a pretty constant flow of noise as a result. If the weather is nice out I'd recommend opting for the outdoor seating I went for the herbed chicken boat and thought it was solid! The cheesy/eggy part worked really well, but I wish the flavoring on the chicken had been a bit stronger. The bread itself was good but had a pretty heavy dusting of flour that I wasn't a huge fan of for some bites I'm intrigued enough to want to come back and try the meat pies, but overall don't think it will be a regular in my rotation. Given the lack of Georgian restaurants in the area I'd recommend giving this a try if you live in the area, but if you're visiting from somewhere that has Georgian food I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to try here

Yelp
Incredibly tasty! This was my first time trying Georgian food and I was thoroughly impressed. The restaurant has some unique items starting with the bread boats - i'll be comin back to try the stew and the meat pies for sure. For the bread boats, you mix it all up and eat it like a foundue. The owners/staff are very friendly. There isn't too much sitting but they have a small outdoor area as well. The boats are a little bit pricey - I think knocking a few dollars off would be appropriate. Other than that I very much enjoyed my experience here and will be coming back

Yelp
What do we have here?! A Georgian restaurant in Austin Texas? I could be wrong and there could've already been one but this excited me when they came across my search I haven't had a "khachapuri" since I visited Seattle a few years ago and this place more than satisfied my taste buds! We tried the Bacon bean boat and the veggie boat and both were phenomenal! I highly recommend trying the Ideal cake as well, very tasty and not too sweet. The service was awesome as the staff were all very attentive and friendly tending to everyone's needs and requests. The seating is limited and there is outdoor seating but beware of the Texas heat crashing down. 5/5 and I will be back soon

Yelp
Amazing Georgian food!! Everything is fresh and the service is very friendly. We came in and it was empty (we need more people here!!) but it started to pick up around 12:30pm. We got the classic and it was divine! Cheesy eggy but the flavors were so good. The bread is amazing! The walnut pistachio dessert was so good. Can't wait to come back and try the Shaksuka like one.
google avatar

Naomi S.

Yelp
Very clean restaurant and friendly staff! We ordered the savory beef boat which was quite tasty. I would order 1 per person if you're hungry, but 1 is just fine if you're looking for a snack. The restaurant is a bit cozy, so there are a few tables for dine in.

Bo B.

Yelp
4.5 stars We got the traditional cheese with two eggs. That was so delicious! It definitely took a little while to get since they make it fresh in front of you. We also got the beef soup - the beef was very flavorful. There is seating outside and AC inside.

Yelp
Perfect afternoon lunch spot! The staff was incredibly helpful when I had questions about the spices in the Veggie boat. We loved the open kitchen style, my Mom watched them roll the bread and prepare our boat. It was served while the bread was still steamy! Delicious!! First time trying Georgian food and we will be back again. Highly recommend

Yelp
This was such a unique and awesome change of pace from my usual lunch outings. It was my first time trying Georgian food (not the one with Atlanta) and it was SO good! Watching them make the bread bowl was so cool. I still can't believe they had it ready for me in 15 mins. Unreal! I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Stopped here on a whim and the chicken bread boat was baked fresh to order and tasted great

Yelp
This was a fantastic find in east Austin. Everything is brand new, clean and cute. The service was top-tier. This is a true family owned place and you can see and taste the love they put into the food. This was my first experience with Georgian food so I'm not able to speak to the authenticity. However, the flavor was incredible. It's like your favorite parts of comfort food (bread and cheese) with a fantastic texture and flavor from the sauce. I can't say enough good things and I hope to make this a usual spot when I'm out with friends for dinner. Also extra note, this place has its own parking lot with plenty of space!

Kaeley J.

Yelp
While visiting Austin my Mom and I got to try Georgian Bread Boat for the first time. we ordered the one with butter egg and beef meat. the aroma is amazing the moment we entered through the front door. we can see the love and pride from this small family business. the bread pulls away with cheesy goodness and the taste is deliscious. if you are nearby or just visiting austin, give them patronage. will be back!

Yelp
From the moment you walk in you will be hooked. The restaurant is infused with the coziest and tastiest smell as everything is made from scratch. You can see everything being made as the restaurant has an open kitchen concept attached to the dining space. My husband and I first learned of Georgian food while we were in Seattle. We stumbled upon a bakery there and was blown away by our experience. So when we stopped at the market next door and saw the sign this place was open we both were so excited! Self service counter, but everytime someone always greets us and asks if we need help with suggestions. Our favorite is the classic (egg, butter and cheese) as you simply cannot go wrong. If you're new, it's the perfect place to start. We also have tried the beef option and it was divine. Much more filling with the protein. We are absolutely hooked! We frequent every week on Sunday after our farmers market or grocery run. Keep in mind everything is made as you order so this isn't a rush in and out style of dining. Food is typically prepared in 15 minutes or less. Portion size is sharable. As someone who frequents culinary spots, I prefer this style of dining where conversation and enjoyment of the company you're with is encouraged. Tip for newbies: stir up the egg, butter, cheese and other contents in the boat to spread the flavors..then cut enjoy every bite! 10000/10 recommend to every friend

Katherine B.

Yelp
Went here for dinner last week and tried the veggie bread boat, meat pie, and beets. Everything was amazing. Shockingly delicious dressing on the beets, the meat pie had such delicious flavors, and the fresh bread dipped into the cheesy sauce on the bread boat was outstanding. I took leftover meat pie home (portions are generous) and my picky son even loved it and kept asking for more when it was all done. The people who work there are also super nice, authentic, and passionate.

Yelp
I tried the Kharcho soup and Ideal cake and they were soooo delicious. Tasted just like the real deal in Georgia! Will definitely be back to try the Khachapuri. I only ordered carry out but the few interactions I did have with the staff were very friendly!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing........ some of the freshest, tastiest food I've had in Austin... Imagine a pizza like crust filled with eggs, and other greatly seasoned items... Run don't walk this place is incredible and your love the food and incredible service

Marta T.

Yelp
Food was delicious and freshly baked! Loved their dessert cake too. The restaurant is clean, stylish, and the staff are very friendly.

Yelp
Wow. New spot on the east side. Order at the counter but the staff are extremely helpful if you need them to explain any of the dishes. Food is amazing. We got the classic and the vegetarian boats. Soooo tasty. Bread, cheese, egg and veggies were perfect. Can't wait to try the others.
google avatar

Meghan F.

Yelp
So amazing! We loved the bread boats and the meat pie. This was my family's first time getting Georgian food, but it certainly won't be the last!

Joe d.

Yelp
Real-deal khachapuri. If you haven't had this Georgian treat...you should. We've had it on a trip to Estonia, and our son has made it for us (he lives in Germany and is dating a Georgian girl). These are as authentic as it gets. Georgian staff making each one to order, fresh dough, they come to you right out of the oven, melty and ready for you to swirl that egg in. Love it, will be back, will add it to our rotation. Thank the staff with a "madloba," and enjoy the smiles. It's great to eat food made by people who are legit proud of what they make.

Yelp
This place is amazing. My wife and I went here for lunch. It was our first time trying Georgian cuisine. My wife had the Adjaruli Khachapuri - Classic Boat. I had the Savory Beef Boat. For dessert we had the Ideal Cake . The texture of the bread was almost like pizza dough but softer. Also, who doesn't like cheese, gooey melted cheese. It was like if a fondue and pizza had a baby. Amazing food! The customer service was excellent too. Everyone working there was so friendly and helpful. We didn't know what to get so we went with their recommendation. The ambiance is nice and intimate inside. My wife and I left happy and content. You can be sure we will be back so we can try the other things on the menu.

Renata A.

Yelp
The food was so delicious, and fresh out of the oven! Everything made from scratch. The service was outstanding - we were welcomed by Saba, one of the owners. The adjaruli khachapuri is out of this world - filled with melted cheese and butter. Make sure you also try the Ideal Cake - super moist and rich.

Sophie S.

Yelp
Delicious food, great service, relaxing atmosphere. Will definitely be back! Thank you, Bread Boat

Konstantin S.

Yelp
Good service and location, and food is delicious! Better than expected. And I had high hopes ahead of the meal.

Hannah N.

Yelp
The food was amazing! Service was quick and easy and I like how simple the menu is, it was not overwhelming, but all of the options looked great!
google avatar

Moon H.

Yelp
Came across this place last week on yelp and we are nearby so we tried it out. Great food, friendly people. I hope more people find out about this place! The vegan patè plate was great as well as the beef bowl. Will be back for more!
google avatar

Erica N.

Yelp
I love this place! Honestly don't know what Georgian food is like, but by the look of the happy European customers ~ it seems authentic. The simple egg and cheese bread boat is probably my favorite to split. You don't have to split it, but I prefer to have some room left for the walnut and honey cake. I also enjoyed the bacon and bean. The beans were kinda spicy but not super spicy, just perfectly flavorful. The biggest pleasure is dipping the edges of your boat in the egg yolk. The prices aren't cheap, but the ingredients are quality Please go support this place! On a side note: there used to be a Mediterranean restaurant that made fresh pita bread near Dell. Each lunch special came with one piece of fresh bread and all the Phonecia pita bread you wanted. The prices were too cheap and they slowly stopped having the fresh bread (which was the biggest prize) and then they finally faded away. . . So don't sleep on this gift of deliciousness. Stop what you are doing and go today!

Christian R.

Yelp
The food here is delicious! We had the savory beef boat and the walnut cake. The flavors on the savory beef boat were great - especially the tomato and spices. Highly recommend going!

Richard S.

Yelp
I can confidently say this is the best khachapuri I've ever had! The dough was perfectly soft yet slightly crisp on the outside, with just the right amount of chew. The cheese filling was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced--salty, tangy, and indulgent without being overwhelming. Services is great and staff was friendly! If you're looking for an authentic khachapuri experience, this is as good as it gets. I can't wait to come back and have it again! Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Jerome B.

Yelp
The food here is incredible!! The egg and cheese combo is so delicious and the bread itself is phenomenal. The service is excellent, and the ambiance is very nice. If you haven't been yet, do yourself a favor and check it out!

Grace W.

Yelp
My first time trying Georgian food! We had the Kubdari meat pie, beef boat, and the "ideal cake." The meat pie was my personal favorite and my boyfriend favored the bread boat. Both plates were licked clean :) The cake had a peanut butter taste to it that was also exceptional! The staff was friendly and service was quick. I have already recommended this place to two of my friends :)

Laurie P.

Yelp
Great food, the cake was amazing!!the staff so welcoming. Try the bean boat! Enough parking and easy to find.

J B.

Yelp
The food is amazing and authentic! The service was kind and ambiance is Georgian! I would highly recommend.

Shelley Z.

Yelp
The real deal - real Georgian cheese! Real khachapuri, Kharcho, and Georgian wines! Low key, order at the counter, relaxing vibes, cozy outdoor seating. Thankfully we have it in Austin!

Natalya P.

Yelp
Bread Boat Austin stole my heart (and my taste buds)! Every dish is made from scratch and packed with authentic Georgian flavor. The bright, cheerful space and warm, speedy service make it the perfect spot to savor something truly special. Come hungry, leave happy!

Brian J.

Yelp
Amazing new lunch spot. The cheese bread boat and meat pie were really tasty. I can't wait to try the other items on their menu!

Pat H.

Yelp
I left a previous review and mistakenly only left 3 stars. It is an absolutely a 5 star breakfast! Unique and delicious. We tried several dishes and every one was very tasty. We will definitely go back.

Shishir S.

Yelp
I went in with no idea of what Georgian food is like and as a vegetarian where I'm normally wary of trying new food this came as a complete pleasant surprise. I ordered the veggie boat and it was just outstanding. Had to understand how to mix the center part though and the owner Saba (who obviously is from Georgia) was very helpful and guided me. Service was fast and got the message on my phone when it came. There was an outdoors eating section too that looked welcoming but was hot in the afternoon so will need to go back soon in better weather to try it out

Celia B.

Yelp
Delicious food! First time trying Georgian cuisine and will definitely be back. Bread boats are large portions and enough to split for 2.
