It's a bread story baby just says yes. $6 cafe and croissant special. Stop wasting your money at Starbucks. Great french bakery.

I was staying in StuyTown with friends and they recommended this bakery. I have to say that it's a solid bakery and I'm sure if I lived there I would be a regular. But given all the other spectacular bakeries I tried during my stay, this place simply didn't shine too much in my opinion.

I've been wanting to check this bakery out for the longest. It's more of a take out bakery, no seating. The mini ham baguette was good and apple flat tarte was not too sweet which was a good thing! I would go again and try their other pastries and baguettes.

Great jambon beurre. Simple and reasonably priced. Other breads and all the viennoiserie are also nice but the single brioches are kinda hard and dry to be considered as a brioche...as a loaf it's good.

It's so good my child closes her eyes and just enjoy the overall flavor of it all. I have to break it in half and she opens it up eats the almond inside and than eats the other parts. I came here a few months ago; let's just say all my kids are hooked. They love all their baked goods. We even had an almond croissant fresh out the oven and that was mind blowing. The customer service is welcoming and understanding when a child can't make their mind up. The team works together to get orders to customers. The vibe when coming inside is clean, well organized and easy in an out path way even with a stroller and 5 kids.

This store reminds me so much of my recent trip to Paris. The staff are very nice and made me feel welcome. I had to stop myself from buying everything because they all looked delicious. I got the almond chocolate croissant and pear tart. The croissant was huge! For the price, it was a steal! The tart was also amazing. I will definitely come by again whenever I am in the area.

I walk by Bread Story very often and have always been interested in it's cute interior. I decided to check it out today. Upon entering there are a variety of pastries on display, priced between $3-$5, which is fair. Their coffee beverages were also pretty fairly priced. I got a cold brew for $3.50 which I think is worth compared to the prices of coffee at other places. The chocolate brioche pastry I got was good, but really just bread and chocolate chips. I did enjoy my cold brew a lot and was happy with the drink considering it's price.

A great spot for pastries and baked goodies, once I walked in, I was greeted with the lovely sweet smell of baked breads and buttery croissants. The inside is a bit small with a few tables with high chairs, but it's mostly a grab and go spot. Going into the shop around 10am, the shop was filled with all kinds of breads, cookies, croissants, tarts, macarons, and sandwiches. The assortment is amazing! I got a white chocolate brioche and the first bite was simply delicious- it was sweet and I loved how soft and airy the bread is. I would love to visit this shop again when I'm in the area.

Consistently tasty. Filling. My favorite savory snack. Eating this makes me imagine I am in Paris at a cafe.

Enjoyed the mini cheese bread and walnut goat cheese bread from here. Would definitely come back for a nice weekend breakfast or to get fresh bread!

Croissant was flaky and buttery although a little small; it was good but not quite as good as in France

Was working nearby on this day and wanted a cup of coffee. It's hard for me to walk past any bread shops!!! There's a Duncan next door but I'd rather not if there's anywhere else near by - chocolate almost croissant was total heaven. Crunchy almond slivers and the right amount of chocolate. I was getting light headed when I was eating it. Just perfection. Then of course I broke into my raisin walnut loaf. Omg pure heaven. So crunchy. It's not an enormous loaf which is a good thing. Of course I got the coffee I originally went in for. I would go out of my way to come back here any time. Everything looks fantastic. Wonderful presentation

Cereal Bread and Sourdough always hit. Would give a five if they had more consistency with their baguettes. Vary from day to day and tend to be overcooked for my liking. When they get the bake right, best I've had in the city.

I feel like every time I walk by this place I'm CHALLENGED because it smells so so so good and everything looks incredible. So many incredible loaves of bread and an awesome selection of pastries. The last time I went I got one of the apple pastries and was obsessed. Highly recommend stopping by, grabbing something, and chilling in the park munching on baked goodness.

Bread Story is a great addition to the East Village/Stuytown area. It's a solid boulangerie and on my visit, I snagged some cereal bread, a croque monsieur, and a plain croissant. They offered to slice the loaf, but I opted to keep the solid loaf to slice at home. The cereal bread had a great crust and soft chewy interior with loads of seeds. The croque monsieur was good for the price, but not exceptional. The croissant had a nice flakey crust and soft and buttery interior. Very solid croissant. The staff is super friendly and there was a nice flow of customers coming in and out of the shoppe without creating a long queue. There are two display counters and the farther counter has macarons and small baguette sandwiches that I initially missed. I'd definitely come back to try their award winning baguette.

This is a relatively new bakery and definitely a good addition to the neighborhood. Good selection of pastries although later in the day some varieties will likely be sold out (almond croissants for instance). The apple tarts are very good. There are a few tables across from the pastries counter where you can sit. no outdoor space.

Best croissant and baguette in the city. Good cold brew coffee. Only $4 too. They freshly bake every few hours, so make sure to grab one when it's done and hot. Hidden gem in the neighborhood with insanely good bread.

Amazing addition in the East Village! Almond Croissant - 4.8!! So good so crusty outside and soft inside. Delicious at it's max! White Chocolate Brioche - 4.9!! Super a surprise! Sooooo soft inside with a touch of sweetness but not too much. I don't know but it was sooooo delicately made that o just couldn't stop eating. Winner of the morning. Brioche Sucre - I thought this one was just okay, little dry.

Stopped by Bread Story on opening day since I've been eagerly waiting for a good bakery to open in the neighborhood. It was well worth the wait! You can smell the freshly baked baguettes as you walk down first ave. This classic French bakery offers a variety of breads, pastries, and coffee/espresso drinks. I picked up a mini baguette and a almond/chocolate croissant. The baguette was a perfect size for a morning snack and the best I've had in the city. I've never seen a croissant filled with both almond and chocolate, making it extra decadent. I'm glad I have a fantastic French bakery nearby now and plan to come by any time I need a freshly baked baguette, loaf of bread, sweet treat, or just because.

Went here cause my brother mentioned about an egg yolk bread but turns out he mistaken the apricots halves as egg yolks. Anyways we bought that and a mini walnut bread to try out - average taste. It was more like bread than the typical crust for tarts. The walnut bread got the healthy whole grain taste. A small decent selection of bread and pastries inside. There was probably 3 seats at the side for seating.

They are the only place in Manhattan that makes chouquettes. That alone would make me give this place top marks. They also make the best croissant, pain au chocolate, and jambon beurre. I also like the mini baguettes when I don't want the regular size.

When this charming little pastry shop popped up along my route on 1st avenue, I excitedly assumed it was a Korean bakery, remembering all the various Korean restaurants and bakeries that have "story" in their business name, including "Gopchang Story" which oddly translates to story of the intestines, I think. This digression is all to say that I've never been more excited to be wrong about a bakery when I learned this was actually the brainchild of a former head baker at Maison Kayser, one of the only bakery chains I adored. Doubly excited since the chain suffered closures during the pandemic, so it's like their pastries could have a second life via Bread Story. Staring at their pastry case you'll notice powdered sugar dusted almond croissants, gleaming apple tarts, pain au chocolat, croissants, and lots of baguettes lining the walls. You can't go wrong with any of them, but I often reach for a pain au raisin. Paired with one of their cold brews or chai lattes and you really can't have a bad day. As I write this I'm planning another visit to try their other pastries to set me up for a delicious breakfast.

It is such a nice quick French Bakery & coffee place. I like their bakery, they tastes really nice and fresh.

I've been here more times than I can count! They give a discount to hospital workers, which makes this an alluring stop for coffee on my way into work. Both the iced coffee and the hot coffee are pretty good! I forget if they charge extra for oat milk. I think where they excel is in their bread and not so much their pastries. I loved the cheddar bread and the olive bread from here. I wasn't a fan of their almond croissant. I made a note to myself to never get their almond croissants again. But I thought I should give their chocolate croissant a try, which also didn't quite hit the mark. I've had the apricot pastry thing too as well and it was also average. I'll be stopping by for more of the bread options, but my sweet tooth usually gets the best of me. I'm sure I'll give another pastry a try.

Oof the croissants and coffee fell flat for me. I had the spinach and feta and it just felt really dense and mushy. So much so, I didn't finish it. My boyfriend found the service to be indifferent. He asked for a recommendation and the attendant wasn't helpful or friendly. He ultimately ordered the almond croissant and found it unimpressive. The latte was also really expensive for it being so lackluster.

The smell and sound of breaking fresh bread. Bread Story is a welcome gem to the neighborhood. I usually have to wait for the farmer market on Sunday or really go out of my way to get a fresh bakery, but now I can stop by Bread Story on a regular basis. I have only tried a few of the bread, but the mini olive is my go to favorite. It's so fresh and flavorful. I am looking forward to trying more bread.

Came in to get a croissant the other day! So glad this opened up by my apartment and so happy to see more restaurants coming near this area. I went for the almond croissant. It was perfect! The breads and pastries here are delicious.

True French artistry here. I came towards the end of the day so there were less options available (it's a good thing!). The chocolate croissant and regular croissants didn't appeal to me but I decided to give the cheese bread a shot. The cheese bread ($2) I ate as soon as I left the store. It was a hard exterior with hints of parmesan crusted on top and the only way to describe the inside was pillowy soft dough. After each bite, I kept looking deep into it wondering how they made that wonderful texture. It was a delicious snack that I would get again. The baguettes ($3) were still perfectly crunchy and fresh. My friend who went to Paris several times demanding to know where I got it from because it took her back to France after the first bite. We tried it as is and then later with butter. Needless to say, it was devoured in a very little amount of time. I would go back again (but earlier) and not only get the same things again but also try other items they offer. Wonderful addition to the neighborhood, great prices, and I look forward to coming back.

I have been consistently going to bread story and am still obsessed. I always leave with 30 dollars worth of bread because there is so much I love there. I always get my usuals: almond croissants, plain croissant, sour dough bread, and apple turnover.I tried the olive focaccia bread for the first time and it was the absolute best focaccia bread I have ever had. It has a chewy exterior with a soft pillowy interior. And has the perfect amount of smaller and larger pieces of delicious olives. It is now an addition to my must get list.

We've been waiting for a French bakery in the neighborhood since Maison Kayser closed early in the pandemic. The wait was worth it: this will be my go to place for bread, it's the best baguette I've had in NYC so far. Better than Cannelle, Chanson or even Maison Kayser before it, to cite a few of the true French bakeries out there. And the best part of it, it's only $3. A dream come true for a French expat in NYC! I must come back and try all the delicacies...

I don't think I have a particularly high standard of pastries, but this one fell so far below the pack. The almond croissant was dry and unremarkably ok but it was the ham and cheese croissant that was remarkably awful. For a $7 ham and cheese croissant, the bread was soggy and not fresh, the ham tasted like deli ham?, and the cheese was some sort of spreadable soft cheese that was spread on after and not swiss cheese baked in.

Absolutely amazing, finally a baker who doesn't burn or overcooks his croissants, croissants aux amandes, baguettes etc Highly recommended

This bakery is beautiful. So well lit, with an amazing smell. The staff is nice, and they have a great $6 croissant and LARGE coffee that runs all day long! Right by stuytown, the quality of the pastries surprised me. The croissant was better than the raisin roll. The chai latte with oat milk actually had spices and flavors, which was a nice surprise for some of the more sweeter chais I've grown used to. (from @tatsessky on Instagram)

A delectable multi-sensory experience tucked into a row of unassuming shop in StuyTown. The pastries are beautiful to behold and heavenly to smell, and the taste and texture... mmmmm..... The owner was behind the counter, and we had a nice conversation (complete with postcard) on 'pain au chocolat' v. 'chocolatine.' I had never heard of the latter, and neither, apparently, had the owner/baker, until getting into it with someone from Camp Chocolatine. Love that he went with it and made a story out of it. Looking forward to a return visit, hopefully pre-picnic, in the future. I hear the baguettes are some of the best in town.

A beautiful little bakery with friendly service and fresh, flaky pastries at relatively affordable prices. The croissants are buttery and rich, the chocolate brioche buns sumptuous, and the apple tarts are perfectly sweet and a little sour. There's nowhere to sit and eat inside, but what with Covid this is probably a good thing.

We have been going to France since 1972 and this is closest you will come to genuine French bakery. And the staff in the front are patient and kind. N.B. The bread does go stale in 24 hours which attests to authenticity.

I like the bread, but not my favorite. They only have whole wheat sourdough, wish they had other types! Overall, solid place to get bread.

Finally got the time to pass by this place. Located in Stuytown, CMS long 1st Ave. The olive bread is soft and very tasty. White chocolate brioche is very good. My only suggestion is that, they should have at least a sticker that says their name/ brand. I wanted to give some pastry but didn't have their name on it. People are skeptic nowadays. Branding makes a difference.

I have been looking all over the city for a proper boulangerie and I am happy to say the search is over. The baguettes at Bread Story are the real deal, baked fresh throughout the day. The pains au chocolat were delicious as well. I can't wait to go back and try the madeleines and other pastries.

I wrote review November but somehow my review never appeared , so i'm writing review again. This tiny pastry store has too little reviews but almost all were great,so i wanted to try myself. when My husband and I tried flan cake ( super yum , we both love this ; not too sweet, luscious custard) , basque ( my husband's favorite ; almond buttery crmumbles) baguette ( bit salty for my taste but good crust) , and buttery super rich plain bread ( forgot the name) Our winner was flan cake! staff is great, too Highly recommended

Just brought the ham and cheese mini baguette at the Stuytown flea market today, it was delicious. Mini bread was just right for me, crispy in the outside, soft inside, a slice of nutty cheese and hints of salty ham...delish!!! Definitely will stop by the store to try other pastries.

Visited for breakfast today and couldn't be more pleased! The pain au chocolat I got was fantastic: buttery but not greasy, crisp but not dry, and the chocolate inside was creamy and not too sweet. I ordered a cold brew to go with it, and was very happy with that too. It wasn't watery like some iced coffees tend to be. Staff was friendly and accommodating as well :-) A great spot for some morning pastries or a coffee break near StuyTown. Highly recommend!

Wow! Live 3 min away and never tried it because I try to be good . Got the white chocolate brioche right out of the oven so big delicious. Also got the ham and cheese mini baguette with butter. I'll just tell you it was so good that got another one later . I appreciate their prices especially these days. Everything top notch best Patisserie in

Phenomenal quality bread at great prices, can't beat it. Bread Story is a hidden gem. Don't ever change!

Excellent French pastries and bread, as good as you'd find them in France. The croissant is a breakfast favorite, and the apple tart "the best I ever had!"--dixit my young daughter . More exotic items from regional French areas make for an interesting and varied selection. Great addition to the too small list of good, no, great! French bakeries in NY.
