Artisan bakery offering babka, rugelach, croissants, and unique b&w cookies
"Your plan was to find an open park bench and get through an entire Sunday Times, but you’re already running behind and that piece on two startup founders trying to find a $2000 two-bedroom in Soho isn’t going to read itself. One of your best quick options is Breads - a bakery and cafe less than a block off the park on the Upper West Side. Grab coffee and a breakfast sandwich, and definitely try the chocolate babka." - matt tervooren
"We don’t want to start any civil disobedience among the NYC babka-loving community, but you should also know that Breads Bakery in Union Square and Lincoln Center makes the best version in the city (in addition to all of their other pastries, cookies, and sweets). Okay maybe we do want to start babka-specific civil disobedience." - hannah albertine
"The Black And White Cookie Breads Bakery makes a black and white with croissant dough instead of the familiar cakey cookie—and actually, crunching through the laminated dough is rather enjoyable. The cookie has vanilla icing, but the chocolate icing is swapped out for chocolate dough, and if you think you’ll miss the chocolate icing, you’re probably right. Still, it’s an exciting invention. These are only available at the Upper East Side location, or after 1pm at the Rockefeller Center location." - willa moore
"Breads Bakery’s Upper East Side location will come in handy at some point. Maybe you’ll need a post-Central Park snack, or a quick sit-down lunch, or maybe you’ll be tasked with bringing the babka. (We have in fact been tasked with bringing the babka.) Whatever it may be, remember Breads. The bakery makes a chocolate babka with a combination of Nutella and dark chocolate, but there’s also egg sandwiches, and feta salads if you’re looking for a little balance. Take your order to go, or grab a table in the large back room. This location also has a special black and white cookie, which swaps the cakey cookie for croissant dough. photo credit: Kate Previte" - Willa Moore
"The shop rolled out new sweet and savory combinations of Hamantaschen cookies with a short bread-like consistency, inspiring attempts at baking." - Eater Staff
