Brisket & Rice - Review - North Houston - Houston - The Infatuation

"On its own, the brisket here is nearly perfect, smoked out back over rich post oak in classic Central Texas style. Youcouldget it on a plate with two sides, but you should actually order the fried rice, which includes two thick cuts of brisket laid nicely on top of a mound of fried rice that includes even more brisket and house sausage. After all, it's in the name. When ordering, say yes when you’re asked if you want freshly quick-pickled cucumbers, pickled white onions, and pickled jalapeños—they provide the needed acid and spice for that rich dish. The other signature dish is a side of Poor Man's Macaroni that’s essentially pasta all'amatriciana. It comes with tomato sauce (in this case, paste) with cured pork and cavatappi noodles, and is a classic "why-the-hell-not" situation worth trying at least once." - Courtney E. Smith

The Best Hidden Gem Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"Sure, it has Michelin recognition, but that doesn’t make this lauded barbecue spot feel any less hidden. Stop into this gas station restaurant for some of the most inventive barbecue in town. White rice is reinforced as an ideal complement to almost any protein at this barbecue joint, which pairs the starchy side with brisket, creating a devoted following. There are other options, too. Diners can spice things up with barbecue fried rice, the Poor Man’s Macaroni, street corn, loaded baked potatoes, or its cranberry almond slaw, all of which pair well with its prime brisket, pork ribs, and beef jalapeno sausage." - Brianna Griff
