The Best Happy Hours in NYC | Eater NY

"Brooklyn Public House is a dive bar with locations in Bed-Stuy and Fort Greene. In the area, it’s known for a 3 to 8 p.m. weekday happy hour that goes heavy on snacks: Appetizers like mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers, and onion rings are all half off, while beers run at around $5 each. Wines or cocktails are $7 and pints are $6." - Melissa McCart

The Best Sports Bars in NYC | Eater NY

"With locations in Fort Greene and Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn Public House feels like a vintage saloon and is a great spot to watch any game, including soccer. In addition to standard pub fare, there’s beef stew, bangers and mash, shepherd’s pie, and fish-and-chips. It is also home to one of the city’s best happy hour deals; daily from 5 to 7 p.m. onion rings, mozzarella sticks, and jalapeño poppers from $3.50 to $8." - Eater Staff

Where To Go When Some People In Your Group Care More About Sports Than Others

"Brooklyn Tap House is a serious sports bar, especially for NFL and Big 10 games, and it’s one of the best spots in the entire city to watch football. But this Bed-Stuy bar makes our guide because of its excellent beer selection - they have over 40 beers on tap - and its big backyard. The outdoor space has a bunch of big screens, so your whole group can drink outside without anyone needing to prop up their iPhone and keep one earbud in the whole day." - matt tervooren

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Brooklyn Public House – Fort Greene Skip the burgers. Skip the fries. Go straight for the bangers and mash, real-deal sausages (from Myers of Keswick if you’ve got a palate) on creamy mash with light, flavorful gravy. Comfort food that knows what it’s doing. I added a double whiskey hot toddy, warm, balanced, and nowhere near too strong (despite the warning from my lovely server, Celine). She was outstanding, fast, intuitive, and dog-friendly to the core. My dogs got water before I even asked. Outdoor seating is cozy, the pub’s clearly got Irish bones, and every bite was better than the last. 🍽️ What to order: Bangers & Mash 🍹 What to drink: Hot Toddy (double it) 🐶 Dogs? Very welcome. 📍 Pro tip: Come for the Irish classics, not the American basics.

Stopped here for lunch during Christmas and New Year’s. It was really busy but we were able to find 2 seats at the bar. There was only one member of staff working but she did a great job of serving so many people. We ordered the fish and chips, chicken club and a side of curry sauce. The food was delivered pretty quickly and everything tasted good. The curry sauce was slightly sweeter/fruitier than we are used to but it wasn’t a bad version of UK curry sauce. There were a couple of football (soccer) games on and the bar was really buzzing on a Monday afternoon. A really fun spot to watch some sport and have some good pub food. We live locally and will definitely visit again.

It's a great place for gatherings and a pleasant time. The interior is made in the same old-school style. The staff is polite and always open to communication. I want to highlight the bartender Elias. In general, I liked everything, I advise you to visit.

Google
One of the best local pubs for sure. Service was great as usual. We shared a lot of appetizers and one main. The nachos were too soggy unfortunately but tasty nonetheless.

Chicken tenders are amazing . Good margarita . Best value for amount of food and price, that I’ve seen so far. They also charged my phone which was cool. We got a really cozy seat.

Google
5/5 if we are judging on a pub-style vibe all around. Prompt service, friendly vibe, good food, all at a great price. We ordered a cheeseburger with salad and fish n chips. Both dishes were delicious. Fish was brought out with malt vinegar. They know how to please my British heart! They have happy hour menus starting round 3pm. Nice to sit outside and people watch. Inside is dark yet cheery. Will return!

Google
A bar with various British offerings such as fish and chips, and an English style breakfast. Ordered the fish and chips, the battered fish was great, the chips were not traditional chippys but were good nonetheless. The margarita was tasty and quite strong so be prepared for that. The mozzarella sticks were especially cheesy which was great!

Yelp
dont get scammed be aware: Their happy hour menu (that you scan with a phone) prices are outdated. When you point out the bill does not reflect the menu prices, theyll shrug and say "sorry, its old." Then update it... dafuq.... And be sure to ask which pints in particular you can get the deal on, bc its not listed anywhere. theyll wait till you get the bill to tell you. Fry Sauce was good tho

Yelp
This place is just fine. The service is ok, the food is served hot but is a bit bland. Nothing really great but nothing bad.

Yelp
Brooklyn Public House is a terrific neighborhood pub. I love popping in here to get a quick drink or ordering food to go. Sometimes I'd even work from here early in the day if it's rainy out and my favorite cafe seats are taken. My favorite dishes are their salads. You can add a protein to it and the portions are very hearty :). Honorable mention to their steak-cut fries, chef's kiss. I like most of their cocktails but their summertime frozen Pink Flamingo and the Side Hustle have my heart. No matter the bartender, I've never had a bad glass of either drink. I love having Brooklyn Public House as a local food option and happily recommend them whenever people are in the mood for great pub food and drinks.

Yelp
They have an A rating again! We come here alot and are glad to be confidently eating their food again. Everything is so delicious (love their corned beef hash on the brunch) with a great bottomless brunch ($22 plus an entree, all of which are $10-19) and weekday HH 3-7pm. They also have late night food deals from 11pm to 12/1am depending on the day. We also love coming here for soccer games. They'll open early for special games or tournament, like today they opened at 9am instead of 10am for the Eurocup. Quick note that even if they open early, kitchen still opens at the normal 10am.

Yelp
Went for a quick bite and drink for happy hour. Nachos took about 15 minutes which I didn't love but my Issue was with the bartender Elias or Alias. I asked if any toppings came with the nachos, he ran the list and I ordered but when I got the check there was an extra charge. When I told him this was unexpected as it wasn't listed on the menu or stated by him, he proceeded to tell me how this is standard practice across all restaurants. I'm informing him that he's mistaken and accidentally knock over my wine glass which he witnessed. I request a fill up (to at least where it was previously) but he pours a tablespoon in. Poor service all around. Wish I never tried the place... wish I had an extra hand to give the place 3 thumbs down. Didn't help that Nachos and wine were below Mid...next Stars given for music selection

Yelp
Decided to go here for after church brunch because the spot across the street wasn't "brunchin" the way brunch should on a Sunday! Arrived just in time to grab a table by the window and order before brunch ended in 15 minutes. Happy to have grabbed a spot by the window because this spot looked pretty dark, especially in the back. It definitely is giving a bar that serves food... Speaking of the food; French toast with the yogurt and strawberries was EVERYTHING! The egg dishes were meh, my omelette tasted just ok, seemed like they use powdered egg and the side salad had big chunks of the part that should have been thrown away and the cucumber had peels still on some of them. Overall, service was good and so was the hot coffee. Def want to try the lunch/dinner menu as this place has potential.

Yelp
This is a great spot for an after work beer and happy hour snack. First off HH starts early and last long enough to enjoy. Next is an excellent selection of brews on tap including some rotating. Whether you sit at the bar or get a table the service is pretty good, involved enough your glass never quite empties but not hovering over you to force you to interact if you are happy to just drink and nibble after your day. Premiere league playing on the tube if you go in for that action too.

Yelp
Just a great bar overall, with a solid draft list and better than average bar food, and particularly a great setting/vibe for sports watching--but not just a sports bar, by any means. Have been here a few times since moving to this area--first time was for some Sunday playoff football this winter. Both the Bills and Giants were playing, so it was crowded, but was handled so well by staff; got us a table near desired tv/game as soon as possible, and service was quick and impressive throughout evening despite crowds. Insofar as bar food/snacks, their jalapeño poppers were pretty much perfect. Since then, have come in for a nice dinner in the back area--meal options were nice, with an incredibly tasty burger and a nice turkey chili among the highlights. My friends enjoyed their entrees as well (mac and cheese, braised short rib) and have also visited recently for a fun Monday night trivia evening. Beer menu is solid--nothing unexpected or totally out of the ordinary, but a strong sampling trending towards the local (NYC, Upstate, Vermont) and the IPA. I'd personally like to see a few more inventive or unique options/diverse styles, but I can live with good beers I have seen at plenty of other craft-y beer bars, especially when the vibe here is so chill and fun.

Yelp
Brooklyn Public House is what I expect from a good, solid neighbourhood sports bar. Food 4/5 Drinks 4.5/5 Service 5/5 By my crazy math overall a solid 4.5. Thanks BPH! I'll be back. The End

Yelp
Best burger AND jalapeño poppers . Hands down. They deliver as if you are sitting in their spot. Unreal. Every. Single. Time. If you are looking for an incredible burger you can rely on, great service (they really pay attention to notes) and sides that are equally cared for - this is the only place to hit. Thank you, thank you, thank you. My go to - without exception.

Yelp
Only went there for drinks but atmosphere was great. Nice people attentive bar service. Great for a dive bar experience

Yelp
This is one of the places where the staff makes you feel like home. As per my experience, that's rare. Music always matches the vibe. Shout out to Andres, Damien, Francisco, Martin, Marcela and Elias!!! Love you! Dino

Yelp
Please bring back Black Swan. This place is only esthetically pleasing (ambiance is calm). The food is mediocre, 5/10.I ordered a fried chicken sandwich with CHEDDAR cheese and bacon, they gave me american cheese Drinks were okay. I got the Brooklyn Lemonade, it was literally just a mojito and they don't have flavored margaritas. Service was not the best at all. My bestfriend and I couldn't sit in a booth because they were saving it for larger parties. On top of that, our waitress was not very friendly at all. BRING BACK BLACK SWAN

Yelp
Great food, great drink, great service and great vibe. Fort Greene location was fantastic. Wait staff is very attentive and the food is quality. Drink menu and beer selection is also pretty impressive.

Yelp
Great neighborhood pub. Welcoming friendly staff, tasty food and thirst quenching drinks :) Perfect place to meet up for dinner/brunch or just snacks & drinks with friends and family. Will become your weekly local ;)

Yelp
Been here multiple times for trivia and football games. New to the area and the staff is very attentive and welcomeing

Yelp
So happy we Found this spot late night. It was open when nothing else was open. It's a bar theme restaurant style place. Good music and great wings. Our server was attentive and got all the sauces I wanted lol. The cocktails were alright. But I would definitely come back here for the wings lol

Yelp
Bonus: trivia night on Mondays at 8pm! The Spending Spree ($13) was pricey for how small it was, but it was tasty. The salmon salad ($18) was generously portioned and delicious! The salmon had a perfectly crispy skin and the greens were dressed well. There's a good selection of reasonably priced beers as well.

Yelp
Great music, amazing staff, good food. That's all that you need for a good time. Pretty much become a regular.

Yelp
Dropped by for Sunday brunch. Service was very slow. Took a good 20 minutes to accomplish 3 waters, 1 drink & 2 coffees. Another 25 minutes before our food arrived. My fiancé's breakfast burrito was missing the bacon she requested. As for my eggs Benedict, the poached eggs were cooked. Yep...soft boiled instead of runny yokes. Couldn't decide exactly what the ham was - maybe it was smoked Black Forest (odd choice.) It looked like a school lunchroom mystery meat. The presentation on all 3 plates looked like something a well meaning middle schooler put together for Mother's Day. Just a really off, weird dining experience. As compensation they didn't charge us for the eggs Benedict. OK, that was gracious, but I was really flabbergasted. Such simple entree's & they totally flubbed. But I'm gonna presume it was just a bad day & will give them another chance. In a few months - it's not like we lack for options.

Katharina K.

Yelp
We came in to enjoy a quick beer and were told we could not sit at the small table without ordering food. We were asked to leave the table and we complied. Eventhough there were plenty of empty tables throughout the establishment. We were moved to a cramped spot at the bar. Two other groups at the small tables were just having drinks. We asked them if they had ordered food or had been asked to order food and they said no. Coincidentally these groups were all men who were not inconvenient or asked to move. We understand if this is a restaurant policy but it should be applied to everybody equally. Both of my parents work in the industry. We understand the hardships of the industry but this was sexist and unfair.

Yelp
Wow burgers where so bomb had the perfect lager and IPA to match! S/o to Wendy our great server! Cant wait to come back!
google avatar

Yelp
This has to be one of the best chicken pot pies I have had in my life. Crust perfectly flaky. The chicken chunks huge...i hate carrots but they were so good I ate them all. Leeks are a great addition. It just had a great flavor, very hearty and comforting. I found the portion to be very generous...i think I may need a nap when I finish it!

Sara H.

Yelp
A mustttt. I definitely know this is the neighborhood spot and worthy of the spot, great happy hour great staff and great atmosphere. If you're looking for something that's not the boujee craft cocktail place and just want to enjoy a few drinks with good people, this is the spot! Only ordered fries and they were great! Saw the rest of the food come out and it looked delish!

Ashley C.

Yelp
Fantastic! The muscles were more than delish and everything was tasty and way above par. Shoutout to our server Damian who just kept the round coming! Highly reccomend this place either as a bar or casual dinner. Will definitely be back!

Emma S.

Yelp
Overpriced bad food. Got wings and chicken sandwich and chicken was weird. Ambience was fun and we sat in a big window seat booth.
google avatar

Stacey L.

Yelp
Food is simple pub food - nothing noteworthy. The bar is cool but the waitress was really inattentive and unpleasant. They nickel and dime for EVERYTHING. $4 per cup of coffee with no refills and same for a seltzer water. They charged for salsa and sour cream sides.
google avatar

Bernie S.

Yelp
Excellent salmon salad cooked to perfection. Friendly staff, great drinks poors and decent prices.

James O.

Yelp
Everything great, except Tennessee Titans lost. It was recommended by Pratt students and alumni and we were not disappointed. Food, service and ambiance were all top notch.

M. M.

Yelp
This is one of the best places in Ft Greene to watch sports. It's good for people watching, too. The house burger is perfect. I don't really mess with the other food options, but it is generally good in a heavily fried way. Nice staff, decent drink selection, divey ambiance.
google avatar

Yelp
That one waiter, I think he's Australian. Wow, he is hot.

Yelp
Let me start by saying, this neighborhood pub is very fun. Great décor and theme, nice lighting, good food....but terrible service. I arrived for dinner with a friend around 6:30pm...it wasn't busy yet, so we got a nice booth table in the back. Our waitress took our drink and food order at the same time. My friend ordered the French Onion Soup as an appetizer, and the Shepherd's Pie for dinner. I ordered the large Mac and Cheese for dinner. About 15 minutes later...nice and quick...the soup came out. Along with some Turkey Chili...which was not ours. So we sent that back. Another 15 minutes went by and the Shepherd's Pie came out. But no Mac and Cheese. And we never saw our waitress at all during this half hour. After some time, I waved down another waitress, asked her about my dinner, and she went to check on it. Clearly it just wasn't put in with the kitchen. It did eventually come out, and it was very tasty...I ate every bite of the creamy spiral pasta. And we did see our waitress again...she kind of apologized, but not really. I'd go back again...but I was really underwhelmed by the service.

Yelp
Top notch local pub/bar with the best veggie burger in Brooklny. For a good evening (or lunch) out for food & drinks with friends or fam if you dont want anything fancy but some excellent food and a good spirit this is a place you can count on. The quinoa and black bean veggie burger is hands down the best veggie burger you will find in Brooklyn (better than Bare) and though I am veg three of my fam members say the fish & chips are too. Good albeit standard Gastropub selection. And the fiery brussel sprouts a nice touch. Service is usually good, though you may get a grumpy server here and there who just seems like he/she is simply dying to get home. But the food and vibe is worth it always anyway. TVs in both the bar and the main dining room so can catch a game as well. Plus 4 outdoor tables in the front when the weather is nice so can still go during covid albeit now space more limited. Though often busy and a reservation could be wise we have never had a prob getting a table (pre Covid). ....but they deliver as well including through Seamless. Appreciate the old school vibe and above all almost depend on that veggie burger now.

Margarita L.

Yelp
They stole my change. That's a pet peeve of mine. The waiter said "I'll bring your change" then came back and said "You're all set." Huh? Stay away from takeout. I ordered the catfish sandwich with salad and the sandwich was dry, so was the salad. Absolutely no sauce or dressing. If you can't handle take out orders then don't offer it.
google avatar

Yelp
I really wanted to try out Brooklyn Public House from Instagram posts I've seen. They did not disappoint. Had the best fish and chips! Absolutely delicious. Now that I am in the neighborhood I will be going very often. Great service s well. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Another cold day in NYC - and the only solution is for more warming happy belly comfort food. Today it comes in the form of Mac & Cheese. and Brooklyn Public House serves up a nice dish of mac and cheese. Lets be real here - its certainly not the best mac out there but it'll do today. and its because BPH makes their mac with the Gruyere - that lovely creamy, slightly nutty cheese. It melts well and is just overall real nice on the twisty pasta BPH uses. A decent sided dish of mac will run you $11 (at lunch time) and is plenty big enough to fill you up. You can add ham or peas (or both I suppose) for $1 each... I asked to add ham and was so underwhelmed by the addition. For $1 you get a slice or two of deli ham. Bah. I think I was expecting a ham steak diced up... so the super thin slices of deli ham was a bummer. If you're torn between ham or no ham - I say skip it. In other food news I can report that the nachos are typical pub nachos. With melty bad-for-you cheese with beans and guac among other things. And the fries that comes w/ most of the sandwiches are typical pub fries sprinkled with salt. Nothing fancy, generic, probably not cut in kitchen fries. But of course they're good. B/c most pub food is that good kind of bad, you know? Sooo if you're in the neighborhood and in need of some comfort food then Brooklyn Public House is a good option for you.

John H.

Yelp
Stopped in this place after a nice walk after work and ordered an IPA, and since when does a draft beer cost $10... It was only 6:30 and there went my money for the night. The hospitality wasn't polite either. Looks like they spent the whole budget on Halloween decorations.

Liz W.

Yelp
Had to leave this place because the waitress was extremely rude and I did not want to be talked to the way I was. It's a shame because I loved coming here but after being talked to that way, I'm not giving this place business again unfortunately. Very unprofessional and disappointing.

Sheila A.

Yelp
Great bar, consistently excellent food, friendly staff. Great neighborhood. Fun decorations at Halloween and Christmas.

Megan S.

Yelp
The nachos! That's all you need to know. Go ask for the nachos! It's always a good time at BPH!
google avatar

Lars S.

Yelp
Very happy I found another watering hole that plays the liverpool matches on weekends. It's a cozy little spot with great beer and pub/breakfast food. Stone skipping distance from Fort Greene park
google avatar

Eliza B.

Yelp
This is a favorite neighborhood spot. The chicken wings and turkey chili are delicious! These might be my favorite wings in all of NYC. The service is usually good and they also often have my favorite beer Ithaca Flower Power. I hope to be a regular customer here for a long time!
google avatar

Dae E.

Yelp
Brooklyn Pub is in my top 5 places to grab food in Ft Greene. If you're ever looking for a late night (ahem, date night/up in the cut) type joint, then this is it. They have a great selection of beer on tap and a fab food menu to boot. I really like their burgers and nachos. I think this place is worth a shot to either be your hangout when you're just visiting the neighborhood and want some American eats or your go-to place when you want to meet up with the usual suspects. Enjoy!
google avatar

Jesse H.

Yelp
Consistently great service. Go to spot for beers & apps - if you don't order the nachos, you're doing yourself a disservice.

Louis G.

Yelp
All was good until we interacted with a nasty little waitress, (with glasses). What happened to client service?

M B.

Yelp
The worst onion rings ever on the planet. Came burnt out, reheated and gross

Sarah H.

Yelp
Neighborhood Favorite!! Before the pandemic, it was a weekly ritual to get a sitter, head to the public house and enjoy happy hour drinks and a pile of nachos. Sometimes we got dinner, sometimes just drinks. BK Public House is a staple in the community and I'm grateful it was the first place I visited when I moved to Clinton Hill/Ft Greene. The best part is how accessible it is. A place I feel like I can afford to go weekly without breaking the budget. Don't sleep on happy hour, it's the best deal around!

Yelp
All I know is, the burger at this place is truly amazing. Got it with salad that was surprisingly delicious. I'm sold
