"Owner Mark Mizer discovered the magic of Hawaiian plate lunches during one of his first trips to the islands as a teenager. Nowadays, Mark and wife Andrea keep the magic alive by serving all kinds of “ono grinds” at Buddha Bruddah. Open since 2014, Buddha Bruddah combines Mark’s island inspiration with his Thai roots, creating plate lunches that are both delectable and unlike standard offerings from other Hawaiian joints. Buddha Bruddah features usual plate lunch suspects like mochiko chicken and kalbi short ribs but also incorporates Thai flavors by way of noodle dishes and housemade sauces." - Joey Carreon
"This Mt. Baker spot serves both Hawaiian and Thai food, and since we love almost everything on the menu, we typically spend more time deciding what to order than we do actually eating. We’re big fans of their pad Thai and garlic shrimp, but the chicken is excellent, too—they have both huli huli as well as guava-marinated versions. Each bowl comes with some rice, a cabbage slaw, and a big scoop of really tangy and al dente mac salad." - carlo mantuano, aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley
"Pie might not be the first thing you’d think of from this Hawaiin-style mixed plate barbecue spot, but pay attention the loaded bake case up front. Even after a massive kalua pork plate, you have to save room for the buttery, coconuty chocolate haupia pie. More classic iterations of banana, coconut, and chocolate cream pies are also available." - Kurt Suchman
"Eating a Hawaiian plate lunch and drinking creamy Thai iced tea with some friends at Buddha Bruddah makes a weeknight feel undeniably less like a weeknight. Plus, the staff is super friendly, there’s a DIY hot sauce bar, and you can order an entire coconut cream pie. The best thing to do, especially with a group, is to get a bunch of things - like charred huli huli ginger chicken, garlicky shrimp, spicy pork, pad thai, and, yes, pie - and split them." - aimee rizzo
"This is the first brick-and-mortar location of the Thai and Hawaiian food truck. The counter-service spot in Beacon Hill has a space that’s nice to spend some time in, plus some super friendly staff and some delicious plate lunches. Options include charred huli huli ginger chicken, garlicky shrimp, and spicy pork, all of which come with a tangy slaw and some excellent creamy macaroni salad on the side. There’s also a very good pad Thai and even a DIY hot sauce bar. That reminds us: sure to add a Thai iced tea and a slice of coconut cream pie to counteract your personal mouth fire." - Aimee Rizzo
