Yelp
This is a review for The Rose -- the event venue next to the Buffalo Rose restaurant. It is an excellent venue for receptions, meetings, parties or listening to live music. It used to be joined at the hip with the Buffalo Rose restaurant next to it, but has since separated to be on its own. I went to it last night to hear some live music.
PARKING
========
There are two paid parking lots 1/2 of a block west of Washington Street. There is also parking on the streets if you can find it. I was lucky to find a spot on the street about 3 minutes away from the theater. The sign said 2 hour parking up until 7pm. After that you can stay parked as long as you leave by 2am. Not a problem.
INSIDE
======
When you walk in the door the venue is very open. Once you get past the ticket taker, there is a large bar meant for ordering and then finding a seat elsewhere.
SEATING
=======
Between the bar and the stage there were tables and chairs set up. (I believe some of those can be reserved in advance.) Floor space in front of the stage was clear in case you want to dance.
There is a second level with seating that overlooks the main floor. Most have an unobstructed view of the stage. I sat all the way in the back by the soundman for the group. Yet, because it's such an intimate venue, I still wasn't far from the stage.
PRIVATE AREA
=============
There was a private area on the second floor (above the first floor bar) that is perfect if you have a group and you want them separated from the rest of the festivities. It is closed off from the rest of the insides, but there are sliding glass doors that open up to the venue, so you can be in the private area and see into the rest of the place. Almost like a very fancy box seat. (I wanted to get a picture but the door was locked.)
SOUND
======
I was surprised the band sounded so good. With the high ceilings and industrial trusses on the ceiling I thought there might be a lot of echoing. But the sound was very good and just loud enough.
SERVERS
========
We had roving servers who came around to take drink orders. You can tell who they are because they wear white long sleeved shirts. If you drink a lot you might want to go down to the bar to get your own drinks because the servers do get busy.
FOOD
=====
When this place has live music they only serve drinks. if you want food you can bring it in from somewhere else.
AUDIENCE
=========
Maybe this is just the way live music venues are now, but people where talking the whole time the band played. They've come to hear the music, but they treat it like it's background music. I don't get it, but I guess that's how it is now. Fortunately the band was loud enough to drown them out.
This is definitely a great place to hear life music and I'm planning to visit this place regularly.
