I'll be the first to admit, I had been driving past this place for a while now and didn't even think to stop in, mostly because I thought this place only served beer and maybe burgers. This place didn't pop into my radar for burritos until one of my coworkers mentioned that there was a place near Target that had amazing burritos, but it's in a place you wouldn't think has burritos: a taproom. So I'm thinking that it is probably a food truck. My coworker said that it was not a food truck; it was really a taproom that serves burritos. This piqued my interest so much that I dropped by to pick up a burrito on my way home from work. Plus, I wanted to see how this place's burritos stacked up against burritos from California. I have been on the hunt for a shop that makes California burritos out here (Yes, there is a burrito in San Diego called the California burrito, it is carne asada, french fries, guac, pico de gallo, and cheese in a flour tortilla. No rice, no lettuce, and no beans. If you find a taco shop that also serves cabeza, ask them to sub the carne asada out for cabeza in the California burrito and you will have a very rich but oh so tasty burrito.) and I saw that the chimichurri chicken burrito has potatoes in it, so why not?
I ordered the chimichurri chicken burrito in the full log size knowing that this was not a California burrito and not expecting the taste to be similar at all. (FYI: The pocket size is about half a burrito size.) The chicken was well seasoned and the potatoes gave the burrito that potato/french fries taste from a California burrito which was a pleasant surprise, and I didn't get any bites of burrito that were lacking in flavor. (For those who are familiar with California burritos and want to know if there is a difference in the potatoes, the potatoes in this burrito don't have the french fry crunch like the California burrito, but I also do know of some taco shops in SD that use potato slices and breakfast skillet type potatoes instead of french fries.) I was also happy to find that this burrito had a little bit of a kick, and it was just enough so I didn't have to add my own hot sauce.
As far as the amount of food you get, it's a pretty filled burrito. I ate the whole burrito on my own and felt like a rollie pollie (pill bug) at the end, so be warned, you may morph into a burrito after eating a full log burrito (or at least feel like you did).
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with the chimichurri burrito and it's similarities with a California burrito in terms of taste (it's not the same, but it did remind me of a CA burrito). Compared to the burritos in California, this burrito held up on it's own to compete with other burritos that I have had in California. I will definitely be back to try the other burritos and other menu items.
Oh, almost forgot to mention, they have themed discount or community nights! They have free pinball nights on certain days (3 pinball machines), trivia nights, yoga on the porch (coming soon was what the sign said), knitting night, etc. They're all posted on a giant chalk board in the seating area, so if you're into beer, burritos, and trivia/knitting/yoga/pinball (and other stuff I can't remember), it's worth dropping by this place and giving it a try (don't forget to keep your eye out for an upside down sign they have outside).
