The 16 Best Vietnamese Restaurants in Houston

"Bún Chå Cá Da Nang is all about comforting and fresh Da Nang-style seafood. Get the namesake soup, bún chå cá, with thin vermicelli noodles and a pile of greens, or try the bánh canh chå cá, a delicate fish-broth soup with thick udon noodles and fish cakes. You expect the soups to taste like the sea, but they just sort of lightly wash over you, like slurping up a warm breeze. Everything is filling, yet light, piled high with fresh coriander-like rau răm herb. We could probably eat here every day. What to order:  bún chå cá, bánh canh chå cá" - chelsea thomas

The 22 Best Restaurants In Houston's Chinatown

"We could probably eat the fresh, flavorful soups and sandwiches at the Da Nang-style seafood restaurant Bún Chå Cá Da Nang everyday. Like bún chå cá, a thin vermicelli noodle soup with a pile of greens, or the bánh canh chå cá, a delicate fish-broth soup with thick udon noodles and fish cakes. And even though you could reasonably expect everything to taste like the sea, the food just sort of lightly washes over you, like slurping up a warm breeze. The 9 Best Bánh Mì in Houston

"Bún Chå Cá Da Nang in Chinatown is all about comforting and fresh Da Nang-style seafood, and the bánh mìs are no different. Surrounding a crispy fried fish cake is a layer of not only butter and mayo, but also a spicy sate chili paste and an extra padding of fresh rau răm, an herb that resembles a hot mashup of mint and cilantro. And despite being essentially a loaf of bread full of fried food, the sandwich is surprisingly light and refreshing. We could probably eat one every day. During my visits to this establishment, I was consistently impressed by the exceptional quality of the food. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and bursting with flavor. The service was impressively swift, ensuring that I never had to wait long to indulge in my meals. Additionally, the staff members were not only efficient but also genuinely friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere that made my experience even more enjoyable.

Google
I tried this place because I heard wonderful things! The food was amazing , the price was affordable, the people working there were very helpful, they explained the menu to me so I know more about the food. The restaurant was very clean and comfortable!

I've been here years ago when it 1st opened and didn't have a bad experience at all. I went back here recently and the experiences were the same. 1st off the food is really good, they have the best fish cake I've eaten. Also the veggies could be a little bit fresher. I highly recommend trying the fish cake quail eggs. It's like a scotch egg, very tasty. The service was not bad at all as a lot of reviewers described. I got my water & utensils in a basket shortly after being seated. My order came promptly, it was all correct & I didn't have any issues with the service at all. Maybe others came during busy hours so maybe the waiter is not very attentive but he came twice to ask to refill my water.

I was so glad that I got to try Bún Chả Cá (Fish Noodle Soup) at Bún Chả Cá Đà Nẵng after reading Houstonia Magazine review back in 2016. I ordered Bánh Bôt Loc (Vietnamese dumplings), Bánh Mì Chả Cá (Vietnamese Sandwich with Fish Cake) and Nước Mát Lá Dứa (Artichoke Tea). My fish noodle soup was for dinner tonight. The restaurant employees were friendly and spoke fluent English. It makes ordering easier. I only waited for about 10 minutes. I was pretty much full after eating half of the banh mi and the whole plate of dumplings. The parking lot was full on this side of the Ha Oanh Plaza, where the Bún Bò Huế Đức Chương Midnite There were few parking spots on the other side during a Friday lunchtime.

Bánh bèo chén (Vietnamese steamed rice cake in small bowl), quail egg croquettes, and goat hot pot with assorted vegetables/taro are delicious and flavourful.

Google
They are known for their fish cake udon noodle Soup. It was pretty good but not my favorite. The banh xeo is mouth watering great! My first time try it along with the clear egg roll wrap. The crepe was so crispy outside and I just felt very healthy with the veggies that you can wrapped it in. Fish ball with quail egg was something to remember for, they fired it to its perfection! They also have this traditional sticky rice fish which used to only serve in the royal family but you can have it here now these days as a common dish. Exciting huh? The coffee was super strong, very good, and the service is also excellent. Will definitely come back again with more friends!

Google
This place makes the best cha ca. My mother who thinks she can always make food better than any restaurant actually gave their cha ca really good complements. I already have requests to get a lot more next time I go home to New Orleans. I didn't get the chance to dine in but will be back to try the banh bot loc and banh beo and their noodle bowls.

Food was great, and the service was too. The menu has Vietnamese with English translation. And the restaurant is very clean.

Yelp
I was intrigued by the article in Houstonia magazine and wanted to come check it out. I fell in love with Bún Chả Cá Fish Noodle Soup. I have read about the origin of Đà Nẵng specialty. The restaurant employees were friendly and spoke fluent English. It makes ordering at ease. I only waited for about 10 minutes. I also love the nước mát lá dứa Artichoke Tea. It's lightly sweetened and refreshing. It has great flavor from pandan and retained the color of artichoke. Another reason being here, I wanted to try the freshly made Bánh Bôt Loc Vietnamese dumplings. They were tiny compared to those I found at grocery stores. I asked the manager if I could order ones without pork. He said no, they were premade. I was pretty stuffed after eating half of the banh mi sandwich and dumplings. I had to get an order of Bún Chả Cá Fish Noodle Soup for dinner. I enjoyed it at home after heating up the soup on the stove. Then, pour it over the noodle bowl with the vegetables. The parking lot was full on this side of the Ha Oanh Plaza, where Bún Bò Huế Đức Chương Midnite is located. But the restaurant was not quite filled halfway. That was a good thing because I got served quickly. There are many tables that can be rearranged. That makes it easy to bring a group of hungry foodie friends to try the lighter side of Vietnamese noodles. Yeah, I will be back. https://www.houstoniamag.com/eat-and-drink/2016/09/our-latest-obsession-bun-cha-ca-da-nang

Yelp
I heard this place is know for their fish cakes so we wanted to try it. It was a hot day so we got a dry "soup" dish, a sandwich, and two apps. The fish cake was exactly how I remembered it with the crack peppercorn mixed in it. I really like how thin and crispy the fish cake was in the sandwich. The quail eggs wrapped in fish cake were interested. Make sure you get a good grip on it or you'll drop it. The banh beo was good and was actually my favorite along with the thin fish cake in the sandwich. The staff were quick and nice. He checked on us to see how we were doing. The tables and chairs were clean. Despite the menu being half soup, the resturant wasn't hot. Parking is free and out front but there are some assigned business customer spots.

Yelp
Viet restaurant with plenty of seating & parking. The only complaint I have for this place is please give water, utensils, and paper out first before serving the food. Other than that the service was alright. FOOD RATINGS Banh Canh Cha Ca: 3.5/5 Banh Beo: 4/5

Yelp
Probably my favorite place to eat in Bellaire, honestly! I'm usually pretty picky with Vietnamese food but this was right up my alley. Taste was good, portion was just enough, price was fair. Oh and their apetitzers were also amazing and plentiful to choose from! Had a tough time narrowing down to just two.

Yelp
If you don't like fish cake, then you definitely don't want to come here. I saw a post that named this place with one of the best sandwiches... I thought "okay - it's fish cake, but maybe have also serve the traditional banh mis." Yeah, no. They only had fish cake sandwich and a banh bot loc which is shrimp and pork clear dumplings - very strange. We still tried the fried fish cake sandwich to see what the hype was about ... I think I'll stick to the traditional ones. For appetizers, we ordered the banh beo and egg rolls. Banh beo is not a common thing to see in Viet restaurants (at least I don't think so) and I don't think it's something non-Viets would order. I grew up eating these in trays where they were neatly half stacked on each other and covered in minced shrimp and mung bean. The first time I ate single servings was at Nam Giao and it was delicious! This place does the single servings as well, but their serving size was bigger. I would have to say that this banh beo is better than Nam Giao. It's hotter, fresher, and softer. The egg rolls were a bit of disappointment. They were bite size, so they were cute, but the flavor wasn't incredible. For entrees, we had the Bun Bo Da Nang (Beef Noodle Da Nang region) and Canh (Viet Udon). Both weren't bad but like I said earlier - it's all fish cake! Lots and lots of fish cake! I felt bad because we couldn't finish all the fish cake! If you like fish cake, you'll get fish cake!

Yelp
Small restaurant, featuring traditional Vietnamese cuisine. Fast service. Plenty of free parking. Large menu with tasty food.

Yelp
I didn't know what to expect when we came in but my dad really wanted to try is so we made a stop of dinner. This plaza is surrounded by restaurants. It was a tough decision between this and Bun Bo Hue midnight. Ultimately, we settled for this. They specialize in fish cakes so noodles and fish cakes and fish caskets you can buy to heat up at home. Surprisingly, everything was delicious. The banh beo and banh bot loc tran were delicious. They're pretty bite size small so order at least two to share if you're planning on eating them as appetizers. The spring rolls were mini size but they came out crunchy. There was just so much flavor in every dish. The fish cake dry noodles were yummy. My least favorite was the wontons. They weren't as crunchy as other items and kinda soft.

Yelp
We had been here before. This time though, the floor was Kept very cleaned. It wasn't the last time...As for as the services and prices, we really appreciate the owners for being such outstanding hosts and kept all prices at reasonable as possible... And of course, outstanding banh bèo and high quality on just about everything on the menu...

Yelp
Food is really good. Cons they need more help. We waited 30 min for them to clean one table. There were 5-6 dirty tables. That about 30-40% of tables. Bun cha ca 4/5 star Ban beo 4/5 Ban bot 4/5 Mini egg roll 4/5

Yelp
This soup come thick or clear. This region is known for their fish patties so it good try beside pho which is beef or chicken. The fresh garlic pepper is my favorite thing along with the broth and fish patties. Give it a try !!

Yelp
The fish cake noodle soup here is the type of hot noodle soup you crave on a gloomy, rainy day. Tasty yet clean flavor in the broth that just warms up and rejuvenates your entire body. The fishcake has a very enjoyable bouncy texture, mixing in perfectly with the soft rice noodles and crisp cabbage. They also do a dry version with soup on the side. Aside from the noodle soup, they offer smaller appetizer type dishes such as Banh Beo, steamed fresh to order. The Banh Xeo that usually comes as a giant crepe is served taco sized instead, which I found very amusing. #214

Yelp
I love this place I have been here many times . I love bun Cha ca , I like the chili and garlic they made it was delicious.
google avatar

Ken L.

Yelp
Odd soup flavors to me. The bamboo noodle broth mixed with 3/4 different types of pork meat cake did not seem to work well together for me. Maybe it is a special palate I need to have to enjoy? Not sure here but definitely was not a fan. The rice cakes with toppings (Banh Beo) was decent though. 3 stars for that. Other than that, one time try for me.

Yelp

Yelp
Nice decor, place was clean, service was quick & food was pretty good. I decided to order their Bun cha ca (fish cake noodle soup). The food came out fast which I'm happy about because I was hungry. My first sip, WOW the soup was scorching tongue burning hot so I had to wait a few mins to dive in. The broth was good, you get a hint of sweetness and a nice amount of savoriness. In addition, I enjoyed the cabbage, tomatoes & bamboo that was added. This is good for a cold day, if you're sick, or you just want something to rejuvenate yourself. On the other hand the fish cakes were a bit tough, it just had more of a firm texture which I wasn't expecting. It was also stuffed in so much black peppers and to be honest it would've been good without it because the fish cakes were already flavorful. Other than that, it was good. Overall, I was content with my meal, it's not popular like Pho, bun bo hue or ramen but it's something worth ordering. Will I come back? Yes.

Yelp
This is probably the worst restaurant we have ever eaten in Houston. We ordered two dishes for take out. We ordered Mi Quang and Bun Cha Ca. My wife was excited because it's been a long time since she had those specific food. When we took our food home, we warmed it up and started eating our food. The first thing we noticed is "the bad fish smell". The fish smelled like death. It was not fresh and smelled very old food that needed to be thrown away. After examining the dish and taking one bite, we decided to just dump the food to save us a trip to the hospital. Please people!!! You have been warned! DO NOT GO HERE. Food is not fresh and could possibly be borderline rotten. Yuck!!!!!! Worst Vietnamese restaurant in Houston.
google avatar

Yelp
Omg one of the best restaurants we went to in Houston! And we tried sooo many Vietnamese ones. We went on a whim, husband's idea (not this dedicated yelped, lol) and we both were hooked! The place is clean, welcoming with wonderful service. The cashier was also the server and he handled everything great! He was nice, helpful and able to speak English as well. My husband is southern Vietnamese with a cuisine that is quite different from other regions of Vietnam. We tried da Bang's version of banh beo and fell in love! It's also different from the southern Vietnamese way, thicker with more topping on top, and omg sooo good! this was our first time trying this noodle soup dish from da nang. Amazing! The broth was complex, clean and so aromatic! The cha ca or fried fish cake that they are famous for was honestly the best cha ca I have ever had! We loved it so much we bought it from the restaurant, and bought all the supply they had since we were leaving the next day. We shared it with our friends and family back in Philly who all loved it as much as we did! There is a sister business who just does the fish cake, but we have friends and family who visit Houston often enough that we will send a small carry on next time for our stash of cha ca

Yelp
Very authentic and very fresh . Everything was really good beyond expectations. Bánh Bèo was fresh delicious and béo ( creamy ). Bánh Canh chã cá was excellent. Plenty of meat and the soup base was authentic and soothing . It brought back memories of my mother cooking. The flavor was just right and the bowl was very nourishing. The quail egg was delightful. Mì quãn was equally delicious . We will definitely coming back here again to try more dishes. We are from orlando florida the best place on earth !!!

Rose Hong F.

Yelp
They take credit card Clean Fast service Not too pricey menu Cashier kind of rush Take phone call and take my payment at once .. end up forgot to give me plastic silverware
google avatar

Kaitlyn P.

Yelp
I like bun Cha ca here, it is the closest food from Danang that you could find. The food is decent good, however, I think the owner could improve the recipes of the broth, make it more tasty like sate tomatoes with shallots and pineapple before put it in the broth. Also, the broth base should have dry squid and shrimps for true flavor of bun Cha ca da nang. Topping should have more paprika oil along with tốp mỡ for better look and flavor.
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
Mom was raving about this place, so decided to check it out with her. She ordered for us to share a fishcake noodle soup, banh mi, and fish cake with quail egg. Everything was pretty good, and uniquely thought out with the flavors. One thing to note, don't order the lotus ice tea unless you like the taste of perfume. Because, that is what it tasted like. Was not a fan. Other than that, can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Victoria L.

Yelp
They didn't have very many options that are easy for people who don't like the more extreme Vietnamese foods. I couldn't eat anything expect for the fish ball appetizers and the water tastes like faucet water, unfiltered and had a milky texture.
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
I was genuinely surprised that they have the Banh Xeo (Vietnamese pancakes). They tasted alright, and the fish cakes were a bit chewy. Service was mediocre.
google avatar

Phuong T.

Yelp
The restaurant service very low. Their food so bad. They didn't care customer. We need setup my sit and wait 30 min for food. The restaurant not busy but they didn't want clean tabel Don't eat in here !!!
google avatar

Amber W.

Yelp
Buon cha ca, banh beo, fried wonton and banh mi cha ca are all delicious. I don't really care for my quang. Will come back for banh beo and Buon cha ca.
google avatar

Jenny C.

Yelp
The best food that we randomly found on yelp, Cha ran and banh beo are so delicious, bun cha ca is so good too and my friends love it
google avatar

Uyen P.

Yelp
I love the Bun Cha Ca here. It similar like the same when I ate in Vietnam long time ago. And the bowl was really big. I can not finish mine

Jenny S.

Yelp
This place is despicable. They took leftover customers' vegetable and saved it, bring it to the back, while everything else is thrown in the trash can. Notice it is next to a cleaning spray! Why are they bringing it inside instead if tossing it? Hmmmm... disgusting, gross, despicable owner. Profit over health! I want to vomit!
google avatar

Mai Thao N.

Yelp
1. Best banh xeo I've had so far in Houston. It is Da Nang style so the size is about your palm size , and you get to wrap rice paper around it, dip in peanut special sauce. 2. My Quang is okay, the sauce is a little bland this time. I would get it again since I do like this dish 3. Banh mi bot loc was excellent however it was super spicy. If you can't do spicy then don't order it. 4. I would not get banh beo again they were not good. The flour was too soft and the sauce was wei
google avatar

Tuyen V.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place, partly because I love ch cá (fish cake). When a restaurant specializes in one main dish, it'd better be good! With this restaurant, it does not disappoint. It simply has the best bú ch cá. Period! If it were closed to my work or home, I would visit more often. Enjoy!!!
google avatar

Ceseline D.

Yelp
Don't have Bun Bo Hue on Labor Day weekend. Unacceptable. The restaurant is empty just us 4. The waiter didn't know they don't serve bun bo Hue. Took our order then came back outside told us they don't serve it. It's on the menu printed and didn't mark off. Ridiculous. If you don't have a specific menu item you need to tell the customer before they started to order. No sense of awareness in here. Will not be back. And don't recommend to anyone. The bum Bo Hue Đúc chuong and every other restaurants are busy, and you are dead. Management needs to fix this mistake before you run out of business
google avatar

Hin Tho N.

Yelp
OMG I love this place I think this place have the best Bun Cha Ca and Mi Quang in Houston. If you want to try some real special Vietnamese food besides Pho and Banh Mi, you should definitely check out this place. The restaurant looks nice and clean. The staffs were super friendly. I will always come back for more Mi Quang. Highly recommended !!!!!!!!

Kathy N.

Yelp
This place is extremely dirty. I've had 2 family members get food poisoning after eating here. I normally don't write bad reviews because I know restaurants have suffered from Covid but this restaurant really does not care about hygiene/health.

Yelp
This place always satisfy our cravings for authentic Vietnamese food, every time we come to Chinatown. Great food, clean and beautiful ambiance + great service. 5-star Viet restaurant

Yelp
Food was good but service is slow. First time trying the mi quang and thought it was good but different.

Yelp
Friendly service, thank you for cleanliness. I appreciated, the Banh Canh Cha Ca is excellent. Tou are the best. Yes it's true that you are using no MSG. I love its, thank you again. I am so sure that i will be back for more.

Yelp
I have been coming here for few times. I love bun cha ca aNd my husband loves their Bun Bo Hue. Both are very delicious. The restaurant is very clean and service is very good. We will be back
google avatar

Hoggie N.

Yelp
Saw this place as we walked out of the Bun Bo Hue place still a bit hungry, and my tummy told me that some Cha Ca (Vietnamese Fried Fish Cake) sounds good atm. Place was clean and nice...appears that the placed just hit their one Year Anniversary some time ago. Fish Cake is avaliable by the lb. cooked or paste form. order both the Bun and Banh Canh. Unfortunately were just okay...not enough for me to come back for though. seems the cha Ca we had were a bit tough ..didnt have that nice soft, but firm texture when taking that bite. but that's just my taste. Portions seems well balanced and definitely will fill you up if you were to finish it all...and we ordered the small size too.
google avatar

Dan P.

Yelp
Need I say more?! We don't have places in Denver like this and do glad we checked it out. Service was awesome, food was bomb! Only complaint was that the coffee was meh. Funny thing is, they don't make their own Vietnamese iced coffee -- the get it from the care I next door. SMH. I had the dry version, bro and pops had the regular version. Nom nom
google avatar

Jeremy T.

Yelp
I heard this semi-newish restaurant had some vietnanese dishes (soups) many Americans have not tried, and even many Vietnamese havent either. After looking over the snall menu with pictures, I ordered the fish mi quang, a thick yellow rice noodle soup from a different region of vietnam than your typical pho. I think the city is called Da Nang. I also tried the udon and the bbc, but I didn't really like the bbc, it seemed to have a taste very different than what my tastebuds are used to, kinda putrid smelling and tasting if you ask me. I thought the mi quang was actually pretty good and the best dish by far. It comes with 3 different types of fish cake, 2 quail eggs and a chicken egg. Service was pretty much unattentive, but that is normal.

Nga N.

Yelp
Excellent food. Nice service. Bathroom cleanliness needs some work, but I'm not here for Bucee
google avatar

Trang P.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Service was nice and fast! Cha ca is Vietnamese fish cake. I was disappointed because they didn't have any banh mi or banh xeo.
google avatar

Vivian N.

Yelp
I have always been on an endless search to find a place that makes amazing mi quang, and I have found it. When I was back in Houston visiting my parents, I was craving mi quang, from what I recall, I don't remember ever finding a place that specializes in mi quang. After searching on here, we decided to give this place a go. The restaurant was still pretty new and very clean. The menu was just a page. Two main dishes with some appetizers, desserts, and drinks. I ordered the pork mi quang, my dad ordered the fish cake mi quang, and my mom ordered the bun cha ca. The food came out in a timely matter and everything was presented very well. The portions were huge. I regret getting the large, but yay for leftovers. Everything was delicious. The broth was flavorful. I loved the fish cakes they were thin, but not too dry. The only thing I would like is if the peanuts were crushed. Leaving the peanuts whole was a little odd. In conclusion, every was awesome. The prices were no too bad at all. I would definitely come back when I'm in town!

Yelp
My wife craving Bun cha, so she came here with her friends and I was dragged along. I generally do not like any Bun (vietnamese vermicilli) dishes, just not a fan of the texture of that particular noodle. But lucky for me they actually offer Mi Quang also. It wasn't the best in town, but serviceable.

Yelp
Got to go orders from here. Waitstaff was nice and got the food out quickly. Wish the food was better. The broth was too salty. I had the Mi quang and Bun cha ca and was really unsatisfied.

Yelp
Totally un-recognizable menu items, yet super familiar flavors. It's a twist on traditional dish's, with everything substituted to none air breathing alternates. One last reason for your favorite pescetarian to stay alive another day. Apparently these are real dish's in Vietnam, but not as common as the Pho or varieties of Bun. Most of the items here reminds me of tofu imitations of traditional recipe served up during religious holidays. It's confusing, but good. This really is a first where I know what some of the stuff is similar to, but lack the Vietnamese knowledge to describe what they are closely resembled to. So until someone creates an evolution chart like the dogs and wolves, try it your self and educate the rest of us.
