The World’s Best Airport Meals, According to Travel Editors - AFAR

"I’m an early at-the-airport girlie and thus often have time to kill once I’m through security. But I don’t love spending too much on a meal at the airport, which is why the trend in elevated fast casual dining—including at airports—suits me perfectly. As someone who flies out of SFO regularly (it’s my home airport), I have to give a big shout-out to counter service outpost Bun Mee, a Vietnamese sandwich shop founded in San Francisco in 2011 by Vietnamese American Denise Tran that now has two locations at SFO: one in Harvey Milk Terminal 1 (near gate B3, pictured), and one in Terminal 3 in the food court area just before you get to the main gate hall. My go-to favorite meals here are the sandwiches and the bun noodle bowl, usually with the lemongrass pork. I opt for the sandwich—which is done in traditional banh mi style with garlic mayo, pickled carrot and daikon, cucumber, onion, jalapenos, and fresh herbs on a baguette—for when I am travel-famished (which is more intense than regular hunger, right?). When I want something a bit more refreshing, I order the bowl, featuring chilled rice noodles, a pork egg roll, lettuce, and all the same fixings as the sandwich, plus peanuts and nuoc cham sauce. There are also chicken, steak, tofu, and shrimp protein options. Couple that with one of their Vietnamese cold brews or, my personal favorite, the vanilla lychee tea, and you’re good to go. —Michelle Baran, deputy editor" - Michelle Baran

The 13 Best Restaurants At San Francisco International Airport

"Bun Mee is a mini chain in SF with fine bánh mì. But in the context of an airport, where you’re technically trapped and your only other option is a pre-packaged salad with wilted lettuce for $22, it’s actually one of the more flavorful options you can get in the terminal (they also have a location in Terminal 1). The sandwiches have fillings like lemongrass pork and grilled tofu, and there are also pretty good rice bowls topped with kimchi, spicy mayo, and a fried egg. " - julia chen 1, lani conway, ricky rodriguez

The Best Restaurants, Bars, and Cafes at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) - Eater SF

"Inspired by Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches, this local chain has two locations in the airport, both of which serve fresh takes on the classic with fillings like lemongrass tofu, rib-eye steak, and even a crispy fried chicken sandwich with herb-packed cabbage slaw and chile crisp. There are also fresh spring rolls and noodles for lighter to-go options." - Eater Staff

Total Score: 6.56 Bathroom: N/A No bathroom Customer Service: N/A Was a takeout restaurant Ambiance: 3.75/5 Nice seating for being at the airport Food: 3.75/5 Good banh mi, but chicken was slightly dry. Could use some more sauce. The coffee was pretty yummy though! Taro and coconut is always a good combo Wow: 0/1 Normal banh mi restaurant Total Score = (2*AM + 5*FOOD + WOW)/0.8

Charging that stupid “SF Health” tax is a ripoff this restaurant is passing onto the customers. I’d be surprised if this establishment even employed 20 or more people at one time. $34.60 for a bowl of noodles and a can of coconut water is extortion all on its own. California needs to pull their heads out and quit voting in ridiculous taxes.

The best airport meal I’ve ever had. Service was lovely and super accommodating to my extra sauce requests after they already made by bun noodle bowl. Sooo yummy and warming before a long flight. At $20 the price per portion is superior to anything else you will get at the airport.

You just don't find food like this in the airport! Authentic, the employees are nice and care about your order. It felt like I walked into some hole in the wall restaurant. The food was amazingly flavorful and large portions. Eco-friendly ecofriendly packaging as well. Wooden utensils and everything is compostable. Such a nice sight unlike plastic panda Express.

Paid $16 for a dry, stale banhmi stuffed with tasteless lemongrass pork. On top of that, the customer service was incredibly rude. Definitely not worth it—won’t be coming back even in my next life!

Recommend the bulgogi bun, delicious esp if you like the strong bulgogi flavor. The egg roll is lukewarm and is a bit expensive for its performance.

I got the Bun Rice Noodle Bowl with the marinated Lemon Tofu, fried Egg Roll, the clear sauce with chili pieces which I poured over the entire dish and mixed it all up and was very satisfied with the flavor. It tasted like Vietnamese bun that you can get anywhere is San Francisco and the portion was generous. 😊🙏🏽

I love, love, love Bun Mee! Best banh mi sandwich and I've eaten here a lot during my work travels. I've had the good fortune to visit Vietnam and fell in love with this sandwich. I've been to so many establishments in the US to find an authentic flavorful version. I finally found it here. So good!
