I went to Bunnan with my mom and her friends. The plan was for me to just drop them off at a concert, but when it got cancelled, I joined them for dinner instead. None of us had been there before, so it was our first time trying it together.
I started with a chicken patty as my appetizer and also ordered the griot rice bowl for my main dish. My mom ordered the lanbi (conch) rice bowl. The table came with plantain chips, which was a nice little start. My mom really enjoyed her food and kept saying how good it was. I thought mine was okay, but I wish they had more rice options like diri kole or diri pwa vet. I am not a fan of djon djon rice, but I was willing to try it.
The highlight for me was the griot plantain slider. That thing was amazing. The pork was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The plantains added just the right touch of sweetness, and the whole thing had a little kick that woke up my taste buds in the best way. Honestly, that was my favorite part of the meal.
Our waiter, Race, was awesome. He was friendly, patient, and had such a good attitude. You could tell he genuinely cared about making sure everyone was comfortable and happy.
The restaurant itself was really nice inside. The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, and I loved seeing people from all backgrounds enjoying the food. Haitian food just has that power to bring everyone together.
They do not serve alcohol yet, but that is only because they are in the process of getting their license. I can already imagine how fun the vibe will be once they do.
Overall, I would go back (and try something different next time). I actually wish I ordered the pizza because it sounded really good. Still, I left full and happy, and it was nice to see a Haitian restaurant with such a warm atmosphere and great service. I'm excited to come back once their drink menu is up and running.
