Burma Superstar

This was recommended to us by a friend who loves in Berkeley. We were a part of 4 and We were told to wait 45-60 minutes to get a table after we drove 40 minutes from San Francisco to get there! It was very disappointing and we didn’t feel like exploring other restaurants after we arrived. We decided to wait. One table was reserved but the party didn’t show up. The table stayed available and they wouldn’t accept to give it to us. We were slightly lucky because they were able to seat us after 25 minutes of waiting. Most people who came with us left and didn’t want to wait that long. I should say that the busboy was very helpful and attentive and we appreciated his effort to find a table for us sooner than anticipated. We ordered two appetizers: the sesame tofu and the samosas. Both were very delicious. The tofu was surprisingly amazingly tasty. There was a sweet, sour, and slightly spicy favored. A winner indeed. I ordered the eggplant veggie dish which was very good but more oily than I would’ve liked. Other dishes we ordered were walnut shrimp, which was a sweet dish… not for me! The lamb dish was good and you can taste the meat, which means the spices weren’t overpowering. Yes I would go again and try other dishes. It was good overall

Really enjoyed this spot! We tried the tea leaf salad, nan gyi dok, mango chicken, and the spicy crispy chicken. Everything was solid, but the mango chicken was definitely the best: sweet, tangy, and full of flavor. If I had to pick anything, it would be the Mango chicken with the coconut rice! We sat inside, but they’ve got a nice outdoor seating area too if the weather’s good. great place to try Burmese food if you’re in the area.

The Oakland location has lots of available parking on the street in close proximity to the restaurant, especially if you go at 11:30 for lunch. You will get a strong whiff of all those seasonings cooking as you approach, in my book this always means good food will follow. They have a nice area for outside seating, but be careful of the bike lane, make sure you look before you cross into the restaurant or you might walk right into a 10 speed! The staff was very accommodating to my cousin with a wheelchair, they easily moved seating to ensure she had adequate space and was comfortable. I didn’t need to taste the food after this display of kindness, I knew I was in good culinary hands! The bathrooms are clean with a hint of cleaning product in the air, they are also spacious and pleasant even though they are unisex because I am not a fan of sharing restrooms with men. So yes, it is safe to use the bathroom here! The decor of the space has a family friendly feeling, with artwork that reminds you a trip to Burma should be on your travel bucket list! The menu has several selections but it’s not overwhelming, and accommodates all preferred diets. Vegetarians, and vegans this is a haven for you, lots of fruits and vegetables in these dishes, so please don’t shy away! I like restaurants that take a break between lunch and dinner, they usually do an extra bit of cleaning in my opinion. They close for lunch at 2:30 and open for dinner at 5pm during the week. This place gets packed, so plan to go early, and they only take reservations for parties of 8 or more! The food is eye appealing, you can taste the dish before you have your first bite, I love a beautifully displayed plate! If you find yourself in Oakland, I highly recommend grabbing a meal at Burma Superstar, have the Tea Leaf Salad, Egg Curry With Okra, and Coconut Rice. Sip a hot Fresh Ginger Honey Tea, while you enjoy the loving energy and artwork that make the setting as unique as the food! Unnerved Traveler

Had great service at the bar. The tea salad is as good as the raving reviews say it is. All of the food was good.

Food was great, but what really stood out was when we realized there were peanuts in the tea salad and we had peanut allergy, Amy our waitress made us a new bowl of salad without us asking, definitely top notch service! Would definitely come back!

From the moment I arrived, I could tell this was a special place. The smell of the food was inviting, and the waiter called us inside with a smile and happy greetings. The drinks (ginger lemonade and Thai ice tea) and appetizer ( platta and dip) had so many flavors. My girlfriend and I sat there trying to figure out how they could make this dish have so many great flavors on one plate. Then we moved on to coconut rice with pumpkin chicken stew. My taste buds went into overdrive, and I could not stop eating this meal until I was stuffed. It is such a pleasure to eat here in clean and attractive surroundings. I found the building's interior architecture interesting. The waiter came by several times to check on us and attend to our needs while offering suggestions and delivering our meals timely and hot. I'll be back here as soon as I can.

Burma Superstar in SF always delivers. I tried lunch special at the Telegraph location today and food was ok, not great! Coconut rice was a bit too sweet and so with the mango salad that was with pork curry plate.

Samusas are amazing as is the coconut chicken soup! Their Burma ale is also delicious and refreshing - they brew it with tea and it has tasty hints of chamomile! I wish I could take that beer home but they told me it's not available to take home, yet! We always receive friendly, excellent, and fast service here. I went here recently for lunch and happy hour. Both times were weekdays with no reservation and it was easy to get a table. Free street parking is also available near by on the side streets. Ambiance is relaxed, casual, and modern. Come through and support our Oakland location of Burma Superstar!

The food at Burmastar is some of the best in Oakland. We've been coming here for special occasions for years, and some of our favorite dishes include the paratha and dip, garlic eggplant, sesame beef, and lamb curry. The cocktails are also delicious! Sadly, the service here is frequently disappointing. It can take forever to order, dishes go missing, and occasionally the wrong dishes end up at your table! It doesn't seem like there are dedicated servers to tables/areas, but instead it's a bit of a free-for-all. You have to go into Burma with a bit of a laugh-it-off attitude, knowing you'll enjoy the food so much that it will be worth it. That said, my partner and I recently sat at the bar on a Friday night in front of a bartender (who also took our orders), Skye, who was WONDERFUL. Skye had a super warm, positive energy and it never took more than a second to get their attention if we wanted to order something else. We felt extremely taken care of the entire meal, and it was without question the best service we've ever had at Burma. Skye, you're a delight!! Thank you for the incredible experience.

This is a go to spot for me, and apparently it is for others as well because this place stays pretty busy! Unfortunately they don't do reservations for small parties but you can join the waitlist online. There is seating outdoors, indoors, and a decent amount of bar seating. Service is always friendly! I enjoy all the food here. The coconut rice and tea leaf salad are staple items. The mohinga is tasty, but I think there are too many noodles for the amount of soup. The chicken noodle soup is also very good.

Mmmmmmm my favorite place for Burmese food! Highly recommend a reservation to sit inside, but outside in the winter isn't too bad with the fire/heat lamps. Highly recommend the tea leaf salad, my favorite dish here. It is a fermented tea leaf dish tossed with a crispy mixture of nuts, chickpeas, sesame seeds, fried garlic, with lettuce. Contains shrimp powder and fish sauce. They normally mix it for you at the table. We ordered multiple of this dish and they came out pre-mixed and they left 1 to mix and show us at the table. I enjoy the Lamb Burmese Style Red Curry too, but you can get it with other meat such as beef or chicken too. Goes great with the coconut rice which you have to separately order. The coconut rice is sweet with a strong coconut flavor, pairs well with the burmese style red curry! First time trying the spicy noodles, it was definitely more sweet than expected. Tasted like a sweet and spicy noodle, tangy with pea shoots, red bell peppers, scrambled egg, shredded cabbage, and crushed peanuts. Another dish I enjoy here is the fried chili catfish, tossed in fried garlic, fried onions, and chili flakes. It has bones, so many people don't like having to pick the bones out. Finally got the try the Burmese Ale! We were unsure about ordering it, so the server offered to bring us a sample. We liked it and ended up ordering a pitcher.

My team and I ordered Burma Superstar for takeout, and it was one of our tastiest team dinners to-date! We ordered the tea salad, sautéed garlic eggplant, sesame tofu, and garlic noodles. While the tea leaf salad is best experienced in the restaurant - the servers do an excellent job tossing all of the ingredients at the table - we tried our best to toss the salad ourselves without everything flying all over the place. The tea salad is always a standout dish, as is the sautéed garlic eggplant that melts in the mouth. The sesame tofu was decent, although it could have benefited with more sauce. The garlic noodles were solid, but next time, we'd probably stick with jasmine rice as our side dish. The portions were on the smaller side; although we ordered one dish per person, we could have benefitted from two more dishes to share. The meal was delicious overall, and Burma Superstar has now entered our team dinner rotation.

Super helpful that I could put our name on the waitlist online. Drove for 30 minutes, arrived, and our table was ready. Staff was fantastic and our waiter, in particular, was super helpful to help curate the menu which was full of new flavors and combinations we were unfamiliar with. The tea leaf salad, of course is, outstanding. The salt and pepper shrimp was mediocre, tiny shrimp in too much batter for my taste. The chicken with mint dish would have been better described as chicken with cumin. It was fantastic, but the mint was indiscernible. The Burmese lamb curry was phenomenal! We also had the eggplant that was solid. I have another favorite Burmese spot in San Francisco. But Burma Superstar does more dishes well than my favorite restaurant. You likely will have nothing bad at this place. Everything will be good and some things will be fantastic. It's well worth a visit!

I love the food here but I was not as wowed as I was previously. The flavors are pretty good. The rice was way too sweet like inedible for me personally . 5 dishes and only 2/5 were amazing. Service was ok but they were not attentive as they could have been. It was freezing inside, they had doors open & fans on, it was colder inside than outside. The food was good left over too just needs a few simple tweaks.

I joined the Yelp Waitlist at my home and by the time I got to the restaurant I was seated within 5min! I ate here on a Sunday night ~7:30pm with my boyfriend who was visiting. I highly recommend checking the wait times on yelp before going. There are metered street parking options available but it was a little challenging to find parking. There were a lot of indoor and outdoor seating options. The outdoor seating option is well-lit, covered by an overhead awning, and has some heat lamps. I sat indoors this time and the interior is cozy and lively. To start, I of course had to get the iconic tea leaf salad! The salad is mixed table side. This was my favorite part of the meal because the salad has lots of different crunchy textural elements like the peanuts and other seeds. It had a nice balance of acidity, spiciness, and refreshing flavors. We also got garlic noodles with chicken, pork curry with potatoes, and garlic rice. The garlic noodles were ok I felt that the noodles were overcooked and mushy. The garlic taste came through and the chicken was moist. The pork curry was another noteworthy dish because the pork was super tender and soft. The coconut rice was very tasty with the pork curry and it gave the curry a lift so it wasn't super heavy to eat. The coconut rice by itself had a mild coconut milk flavor. Throughout the meal, the service was friendly and prompt at taking orders/refilling water. Overall, I think that this place is a good spot for Burmese food. The highlight was definitely the tea leaf salad. The food came out promptly and the service was good.

I've been to the Alameda Burma, it was delicious! 5 stars. I haven't had delivery via Uber before yesterday. What we received was disappointing. Here's more detail: -Eggplant with garlic: 5 star. -Chicken curry: 3.5 star. No spectacular flavors and the meat was a little stringy. -Garlic noodles: Don't know-but my not very picky son rejected them pretty much entirely -Roti: So bad. One star. Undercooked, chewy, and greasy. The dipping sauce was maybe identical to the chicken curry sauce and didn't wow.

Came here after work for some comfort food. I ordered the Coconut Chicken Curry and a side of Coconut rice. I always get the soup instead but wanted to try the curry with rice. It's slightly different than the soup because the curry has basil. Not my favorite but the flavor is so light it's ok and let me own not being the biggest fan of basil. I will also say the waiter told me it was like the soup but it would've been helpful to know the basil difference because it can be strong at times. Despite the variance of this dish, I think it was perfect. Their coconut rice does not miss! It's consistent and that's what I like the most. I can't tell you what makes good coconut rice, but this is the first place I think of. It's a must-try!

Gotta love Burma Superstar! I've been here twice now and this time was for a friend's bday, we ordered things to share family style and everyone loved everything. The standouts for me were the rainbow salad and coconut chicken curry which we had with coconut rice on the side, it was just delicious. We brought our own cake and they do charge a cakeage fee but it was cute with candles and everyone singing happy birthday to our friend in the intimate space. I'd highly recommend this spot in temescal to anyone who's curious and wants to try some great Burmese food!

I want to start off by saying the service here was amazing. The person taking our order and the folks serving the food were all so friendly and seemed very passionate about the food. We sat outside on the patio and the weather was so nice. Even with a busy street it wasn't distracting from the company or food. I had been wanting to try out Burmese cuisine after a coworker made tea leaf salad for a work event. This place had so many great options to try. I loved the chicken and kabocha squash curry which is surprising as I'm not usually a fan of this type of squash. The lamb was so tender as well! Will definitely be coming back during my next trip to the area.

The food was delicious! The fermented tea salad had great crunch and flavor. Our server was very friendly and provided recommendations as it was our first time.

The only time I've had Burmese food was at Burma Superstar (this location), and that was two years ago. Finally, I went back because their food was just so delicious! However, I ordered completely different dishes from their menu this time, and they were not as good as I expected. I ordered the Burmese Style Beef Curry, Garlic Noodles, and Dry-Fried String Beans. The dry-fried string beans were the best dish out of the three. The string beans were crunchy and very flavorful from the chili and garlic. The garlic noodles, however, were quite disappointing. The Burmese twist was fantastic, but it was severely lacking that garlic flavor. Nonetheless, if I were to think of it as a different noodle dish, I still think it was good; just don't expect it to be full of garlic flavor as you would expect from typical garlic noodle dishes. Lastly, the beef curry was decent. The flavor was there, but I definitely preferred the Pork Curry with Potatoes that I ordered two years ago. Service was phenomenal. We were the only ones seated outdoors, and our servers were very attentive. Their menu has a variety of options, and they definitely have some superstar dishes, but they were not the dishes I ordered during this second visit.

My Honolulu friends wanted to go to Burma Superstar in Temescal last night. In Honolulu they've eaten lots of Burmese food - their reference restaurant is Rangoon. I'd enjoyed eating at the Alameda Burma Superstar before. We ordered the Lsphet Thoke Tea Leaf Salad, which was delicious! We also ordered the Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, the Pumpkin Chicken Stew and Coconut Rice. My friends liked these, though I felt they were just ok. One friend ordered a Burmese Milk Tea, which was tasty! One caution: if you dine outside, be VERY careful crossing from the restaurant / sidewalk to the outdoor seating - there's a very well used bike lane between them, and no one seems to slow down for restaurant patrons or staff. Rather, they pass through going pretty fast!

Burma is one of my favorite stops when in the Bay Area. Arrived in the middle of the week around 5:30pm, the weather was great so we were able to sit comfortably in the parklette. We order a few drinks on got down to business with food. Everything is always so well flavored. I love that it's right on Telegraph with so many other great food options just a stones throw away.

Amazing service. The restaurant was closing early because of limited staff but they allowed us to be seated. The food came out SO quickly and we weren't rushed at all despite them wanting to close early. The vibe was cool. The decor was beautiful and the bar was nicely set up. The space was bigger than I thought it would be. We ordered the sesame tofu and the Shan noodles. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Shan noodles because of the tomato sauce but if you like tomato sauce with spices it might be a hit! The tofu was delicious! Super crispy on the outside but soft on the inside with a sweet and tangy sauce on top. I would definitely return and try some other items.

Overall very very solid food and probs the best tea leaf salad I've had, but unfortunate pricing + you must know what to order. We ordered 2 coconut rice and 1 jasmine for a table of 7, but quickly realized that just 2 bowls could have been enough with all the dishes we ordered. Coconut rice was tasty but sweet so avoid if you have negative sweet tolerance, and the platha with dip (the side curry was 10/10) and pumpkin pork curry was my personal favorite!!Pork was super tender and this was the least saltiest dish, although the kabocha could've been more cooked:( the chunks were kinda hard. The fried catfish was crispy and paired well with everything else on the menu, and the Shan noodles were good but rather simple. Skip the chili beef and tofu - pretty salty and slightly cold. Chicken with mint was my friends fav and it was super flavorful, I just wished I liked mint:( The staff were super friendly but it does get pretty busy in the evenings so we needed to flag them down a few times during peak hours for water. The servers toss the tea leaf salads and Shan noodles for you in a lil mini performance, which is a fun vibe. Parking is in Temescal so do not leave anything in ur car;(

The service is helpful, location is good as well. What really stands out of course is the food! Incredible selection of delicious Burmese food that brings novelty to the palate with flavors of spice and sweetness for those who have not tried Burmese food. Great for lunch or dinner and phenomenal food to eat if you happen to be hung over. I'd highly recommend Burma superstar! Ambiance is quite good as well!

Really unique and delicious Burmese food! Everything was super flavorful and very good. Definitely on the heavier seasoning side. I absolutely loved the tea leaf salad! It's crunchy, refreshing and full of different textures. The samosas were nice and flaky and lots of filling. The pork belly with mustard greens was tangy and savory. The lamb kebat was tomato based and full of veggies, mint and cilantro. The curry chicken stew was packed with chicken and kabocha squash. The staff was nice. The restaurant was very clean. Great place to eat!

My first time here and first time trying Burmese food. It did not disappoint! Service was great first of all, the outdoor seating was lovely on a warm October day, and the food was delicious! I highly recommend the Burmese curry with shrimp and the eggplant curry. Don't forget the tasty coconut rice!

Came here early on Friday night - right at 5p when they opened - with one other person. Were sat immediately. Strangely, still took a waiter 10min to come over to us for the first time. Ordered smaller: Pratha & Dip: 5/5. Pratha was bouncy, squishy, flaky and crispy. So good. The dip was really well-balanced in flavor - I have had dips that have been too salty or, almost anchovy-esque, and this was not that. Wish there was more of the dip is all. Grilled pawns: this was 3.5/5. I'm not sure I would get again - they were super salty and almost over seasoned. They come on a small pan that keeps them sizzling, with cloves of cooked garlic. I was hoping to have the prawn drive the flavor more with subtle added flavor. Coconut rice: 5/5 rice was cell cooked and stood on its own with nice hints of coconut throughout. This isn't sticky rice - it's fluffy basmati. By the time we were leaving (6:30ish) it was full inside and out with more people waiting to be seated. El fin!

Burma Superstar has been on my must-try list for a while and they did not disappoint! (aside from the priciness...) We ordered the Platha & Dip, Laphet Thoke (Tea Leaf Salad), Pork Belly with Mustard Greens, and a side of Coconut Rice. To start, the Platha & Dip was pretty scrumptious but the serving was smaller than we wished for at $17. Next, there was the star of the show, the Tea Leaf Salad. The flavors were flavoring and the freshness was freshing. The flavor combination bursts in your mouth - the nutty flavors and acidic crunches mesh perfectly. Finally, there was the Pork Belly with Mustard Greens with Coconut Rice. Again, amazing flavors of spicy, sour, sweet, and savory. I enjoyed the dish but I wouldn't recommend it if you do not like spicy pickled flavors. Also, the dish did not come with rice. We ordered a separate side of rice for $4. Amazing service and cute interior too. Overall, good food but pricier. I know that Tea Leaf Salad will cross my mind from time to time. I'd likely come back but sparingly... because my bank account cannot afford regularly eating here. If you live in the area, I'd definitely recommend checking at Burma Superstar at least once!

Would highly recommend this restaurant - it has a cute interior and ambiance and the waiters were all lovely. They provided very useful recommendations and answered any questions we may had. As they were bringing our food, they also reminded us of the names of the dishes, which was helpful. I want to especially recommend the Laphet Thoke (tea leaf salad) - it's one of the best salads I've had. All of the ingredients mix really well together - there are so many different textures and tastes, blending perfectly to get great contrasting tastes and bites. It also has the perfect amount of dressing. Even if you're not the biggest fan of salads, I'd recommend trying this one. There was a group of us so we ordered many different dishes - and we found all of them good. I don't think you can really go wrong with anything so you feel free to order anything. We also found the happy hour cocktails great. I'd definitely be happy coming here again.

Almost everything has MSG. Such a disappointment. Real umami comes from skill not chemical shortcuts. Very limiting and probably unnecessary- why not try these dishes without MSG and see how they taste? I bet they would still be delicious. Some people have a strong reaction and cannot eat even trace amount. I bet you don't need it.

Our group of 4 arrived around 7:00pm, with 15-20 minutes of wait time after placing our names on the waitlist to be seated. The interior looks clean and feels warm and cozy. I will say that the menus felt a bit flimsy around the spine upon first inspection. With that aside, we ordered the Garlic Noodles, Mango Shrimp, and Coconut Chicken Curry to share between the 4 of us. When the food came, we realized that there wasn't any rice in the bowls, so we only had noodles as a means of eating with the entrees. Fortunately, the staff also noticed our blunder and gave us a bowl of rice on the house which we were very appreciative of. The garlic noodles were standard in terms of taste and quality. The mango shrimp was not what I was expecting, but it still tasted good! I wish that the mango was sweeter though. The coconut chicken chicken was really good, and I would definitely order it again. Honestly, I felt that the portions were smaller than expected and to share three dishes between 4 people was not as fulfilling as I would have liked. I would suggest getting personal dishes if you decide to go! The staff was really nice; they seemed busy as they were always maneuvering around the restaurant. Parking might be difficult as there is only street parking, but hopefully you'll be able to find some out front when you go.

First let me start by thanking Serak for the amazing service! He was attentive, friendly, and super helpful. The food was delicious as always, no complaints. We had Rainbow salad, chicken samusas, chili beef, superstar shrimp, and sesame chicken. We sat outside and enjoyed the nice weather. It was a busy evening but our service was still top tier. Overall, we had a great experience and will be back soon!

This place is awesome and a go-to for special occasions - whether it intimate birthday dinners, friends visiting from out of town, and/or house dinners. It's a real nice restaurant with very attentive servers. To the food - there's a lot of stars. I highly recommend the Tea leaf salad (my friends always ask for this!), the rainbow salad, and the walnut shrimp if you're not allergic. Everything else you could or couldn't go wrong, just let your eyes mind and belly decide ;)

Who knew catfish could be so tasty? Temescal has so many great options for dining that it's often hard to decide where to go. In a recommendation, I chose this restaurant because its cuisine was very different and the food has spices I haven't had before. Quaint and cozy, the dining area lends itself to cross table communication. We met some good people there and shared insights about our favorite items on the menu. Plump as juicy shrimp, crunch and spicy catfish paired well with that mango lassi! Burly evidently I missed out on the featured item: rainbow salad. I'll be back for that one and hopefully I'll see you there!

Came here for dinner after visiting UC Berkeley and it didn't disappoint! Luckily there was no wait on a Monday night and we were seated really quickly. We started off with some platha and curry sauce which was fried nicely and not oily and the curry sauce was yummy! I got the chicken curry noodle soup which was a large serving and we also tried the mango salad and curry noodles. The burmese milk tea tasted like a regular HK milk tea so it wasn't very special. I liked my noodle and soup but it was a bit heavy after a few bites so I would definitely share it! The server was nice and the restaurant was lively and still quiet enough to have a nice conversation. We liked the noodles and salad and will probably come back to try more menu options!

3.5/5 rounded up to 4 stars. Came here on a Sunday evening around 8:30 PM, and there wasn't a wait at all. This restaurant is such a great spot for a nice dinner in Oakland with a comfy yet elegant interior and drinks. I've heard so much about this place and have been dying to try it, but it was a bit underwhelming and prices are pretty steep. We ordered the famous tea leaf salad without peanuts, Burmese style beef curry, and the spicy crispy chicken. - Tea Leaf Salad (7/10): We really loved all the crunchy textures in the tea leaf salad, but there's so much oil in the dressing that it doesn't even feel like you're eating a salad. Could be a good or bad thing depending on what you're looking for. - Burmese Style Beef Curry (6.5/10): This is really worth your money. They give you soooo much beef, but again, it's on the oily side and I wish the beef was more tender. - Spicy Crispy Chicken (6.5/10): Solid but is basically an elevated Panda Express Orange Chicken for $24. We also got two sides of jasmine rice, and they give you MOUNDS. It was a bit overcooked for my liking, a little mushy. For some reason, the rice was sweet? They might've given us the coconut rice instead. Not complaining though!

I have been to this location and Burma Love on valencia st in SF and have always enjoyed the food. This time I ordered the mango chicken which was pretty good but not my favorite dish I've ordered. My friend ordered the eggplant stirfry with chicken which I much preferred and would definitely recommend. We asked for hot sauce on the side and I kid you not, it's probably some of the best hot sauce I've ever had at a restaurant! I was not expecting it to be so delicious - definitely ask for it if you're a fan of spice. Service was great and the food came out incredibly fast. The only con is that the food is quite expensive so it's not a regular spot for me but more so a special occasion meal.

Went on a recent rainy night and got seated at the bar in about 15 mins. Definitely use Yelp's WAITLIST feature so you can get in line remotely and show up right as your table frees up!! The menu is literally all good options! Their sauces are really tasty and the meats they use are nice good cuts. The cooking is careful so that everything's fully cook and not ever dried out. They have some fun mocktails and cocktails. The ambiance is nothing really special. The service is fast. Just a super solid dine-in tasty easy meal. Love to go with my kids ages 18-25, who always ask "why don't we come here more often."

Wonderful meal at Burma superstar. We enjoyed mocktails, tea leaf salad, chicken curry, coconut rice, spicy noodles, and fried catfish. The catfish and coconut rice were my favorite! The food tasted even better the next day! The service is good. Bathrooms are way in the back but spacious. We sat outside and it was a bit loud and we were interrupted by people passing by peddling for money or food but I imagine the ambiance is nicer inside. It is pricey but nothing crazy for the Bay Area. Will return!

Went here a few months ago for a friend's birthday! The staff was incredible!! Very friendly and helpful with accommodating to my dietary restrictions. There are A LOT of really tasty vegan options here! Every dish I ate was delicious and I can tell the menu is very carefully made and consists of items with reliable quality. Location is fantastic! The cozy ambiance is very welcoming! Looking forward to when I'm next in the area to come here again!

I've been long awaiting going to Burma superstar, the interior is lively, the service was attentive, even during a very busy lunch rush hour, our food was just so good. The lunch specials were incredibly reasonable, the lamb and rice dish was excellent.

I have mixed feelings about this review, about this visit to this restaurant. I have not been to Burma in years. I used to visit the one on Park in Alameda pretty frequently since it is so much closer to my job. Wellllll, tonight I visited the Telegraph location and I was very much underwhelmed. The place was busy. We literally walked up 20 minutes after their 5pm opening and we had to wait around 10 minutes for parklet dining- no indoor dining was available. Ok, fine, the greeter was very pleasant, the servers and others attendants were helpful and friendly. The lack of stars is because of the quality of the food. I'm disappointed. I chose this place to relive the flavors I have loved before however I was not getting the taste that I expected. I actually longed for the Burmese restaurant by my house while eating. We started with Samosa Soup- for me it wasn't hot enough when it was brought to the table. My daughters said it was ok but even the samosas in the soup were old tasting. I said hummm was this leftover from the lunch crowd??? We ordered catfish curry , fiery string beans, Sesame Chicken, Garlic Noodles, jasmine rice, and lemon grass salmon. The rice was way overcooked. The catfish wasn't fresh and the curry sauce wasn't spicy and the consistency was thin with bits and pieces of the batter from the fish . I ate it- frowning- because my daughters was looking like they were too hungry for me to say anything. The salmon took a while to come out.... meaning it was fresh. That dish came out with a good amount of fresh veggies accompanying the salmon and it was good although the sauce thickened up quickly, almost a gel. The string beans were delicious!!! The Sesame Chicken was good. The Garlic Noodles were ok but most of them got packed to go home. Thank you for the heater outside!!!!! Let's see if I make it back to the Alameda location.

I can't recommend this place enough. Every dish has something special and we try to hit something new each visit while still enjoying our favorites. Tea leaf salad, garlic noodles with tofu, and sesame chicken are all fantastic. Also good for kids if you don't mix in all the jalapeños that come with the tea leaf salad. The coconut rice is a must have!! We tried the fried banana and ice cream this last visit and now we're going to have to get it each time we come, it's that good! We came right when it opened and were seated right away. Otherwise, the wait can get long, but it's always worth it.

My first time here and after reading some great reviews I was excited to try. The food was great. I went with a few friends and we went with: Platha and dip: highly recommend, the dip they give is so good I could eat it by itself. Tea leave salad: I love all the different textures of this salad, it is very refreshing. Chicken Curry and rice: very delicious, I'm not super big on Curry, but this one was really good.

Delicious if pricey Burmese fare. We came on a Saturday at 12:30 and there was plenty of seating. We also had an infant in our group, and the staff was very attentive and patient with her. The standout dish we ordered was the fiery lamb, which was really flavorful and spicy. Just like street food in Asia! The pea sprouts were also delicious - very refreshing and a nice offset to the spicy, savory dishes. I would not recommend the spicy and crispy chicken though - which tasted like a cross between general Tso's and orange chicken.

I started eating there because someone from work brought one time these stinky noodles, I couldn't breath but i tried them and omg I was hooked, since then I've been ordering a takeout from there once a well. I like it that they have student menu which is cheaper on doprdash. All the appetizer menu is really good, I can not point on one thing to say that it's not amazing

There are a few Burma Superstars around the Bay Area, this one is in Oakland's Temescal neighborhood where there are bunch of food options now. They have outdoor seating which is convienient when I bring my dogs along. I'll be honest, I've avoided going to Burma Superstar for a few years when there were news articles outlining lawsuits that the owners/management weren't fairly paying their workers and giving them their tips among other things. Just so you know, in 2020 the owners paid a settlement paying employees lost wages, reinstituting tip sharing and requirements to do workers' rights trainings about breaks and any benefits that could apply. I checked that they had resolved the issue before I decided to go back. Burma Superstars offer very authentic and legit Burmese food. Their Tea Lead Salad is a must-order. Their garlic noodle dishes are pretty good too. They have a full bar, and I really enjoyed their Bureme Python which has a little bit of spice to it. This place can get pretty busy, they do have a Yelp Waiting List.

We liked everything about Burma Superstar. The only thing I have trouble with is I don't like hot and spicy things and my boyfriend dies. Me navigating what to order can sometimes be challenging. We have visited more than once. We liked it each time we visited. Service was quick and friendly. I find myself peering at other people orders to navigate my own ordering. Its friendly atmosphere and casual setting make it super easy to visit. I love coconut rice!

Burmese food is one of my favorites and I've been to a couple other Burma Superstar locations before! Their mango chicken and platha and dip are always a go to when I visit because it's so flavorful and no one else really makes it like they do. The tea leaf salad is always a family favorite too, packed with tons of flavor and makes for the perfect side dish when enjoying the rest of your meal. Highly recommend ordering family style so you can try a little bit of everything. The location of this one is a bit difficult to find parking and most of their seating is outdoors so just something to be aware of. Service can be a bit slow sometimes as well if you're seated outside. Overall really good food and definitely recommend checking out one of their locations in the Bay Area!

The service was amazing. We went with our baby insert a stroller and they turned on heat lamps, made space for the stroller and brought out hot water for a bottle. The food was great. I recommend the tea leaf salad, dry fried string beans and the spicy eggplant

Bruh stop playing. Best restaurant in the bay without a doubt. Sesame chicken is a must. Sesame beef is right up there with it. You wanna impress your girl take her to Burma.

Fun to try but I don't think I would do it again. There old fashion sounded amazing, but was overwhelmingly sweet. For me mixing sweet and savory in dinner items doesn't work. The Mint Jalapeño Chicken dish just tasted too sweet. Nan Gyi Dok was basically flavorless noodles. We left most of that and didn't take it to go. Ginger Chili pork belly was the star of the show. Coconut Rice was amazing but so sweet that it's basically desert.
