"You can walk right up to this cheery orange-walled spot in the Richmond any night of the week and have tea leaf salad in front of you within minutes. Theirs is a solid rendition made with whole (instead of the usual crushed) tea leaves. And while it lacks a bit of the citrus zing that higher-ranked salads on this guide possess, it’s still a nice start to the hearty meal ahead. More hits that should accompany your salad: garlic noodles that are absolutely showered in fried garlic, and the onion-heavy chicken curry. " - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez, patrick wong

"Come to this spot in the Richmond for homestyle Burmese food—including the incredible garlic noodles that’ll make you walk away from dinner considering a committed partnership with them, shared apartment and all. The flat egg noodles are peppery and generously coated in butter. Green onions and crunchy garlic bits add excellent texture. They all come together to create punchy umami flavors that’ll have the whole table jockeying for the last bite. " - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez

"On weeknights when you’d rather fold 100 fitted sheets than pull out a frying pan and cook dinner, the answer is always Burmese Kitchen. This spot has a lengthy menu of soups, noodles, and meat and seafood entrées—so if you don’t know where to start, go for the springy garlic noodles. They’re loaded with pork and crunchy garlic you’ll want atop everything on the table. They pair well with the bone-in chicken coconut curry, an onion-y dream. The best part? Walk in and you’ll always find a seat inside the bright orange space. " - julia chen 1

"On weeknights when you’d rather fold 100 fitted sheets than pull out a frying pan and cook dinner, the answer is always Burmese Kitchen. It’s easy to walk in and get a table, and Burmese soups, noodles, and meat and seafood entrées are great across the board. Getting the springy garlic noodles loaded with crunchy fried garlic and pork on your table is non-negotiable. The tea leaf salad is just the right amount of funky and spicy. And the tender bone-in chicken coconut curry is an onion-y dream. Sit among the cheery orange walls and umbrellas hanging overhead and know that this spot will save you any time your weekly dose of cooking dread hits." - Julia Chen

This was the best tasting curry I’ve had in America since moving here from England. An explosion of great flavours that leave a wonderful lasting taste on your palette. This is a must go!

My first time to have Burmese food and every dish was excellent. The Tea Leaf Salad was exceptional! I would highly recommend if you have never had this type of food to give it a try! Staff was friendly, respectful. Good service! I consider this small, neighborhood El restaurant to be a real find!

Good food and service. I wish the ambience was better. Since the restaurant was full, we were accommodated in a patio on the back of the restaurant which wasn't cozy at all.

Burmese Kitchen is the absolute best Burmese food in SF! The tea leaf salad is out of this world.. we may have ordered extra👀. I highly recommend ordering their samosas, spicy fish, coconut rice, and the Mohinga to share for the table. I wish I had more room in my stomach to try more dishes... the owners were also so kind and recommended these dishes for us! Overall, Burmese Kitchen is a hidden gem in the bay~ 10/10 would recommend.

First time having Burmese food. It was great. Menu was very enlightening; staff took it a step further answering questions. This place had my favorite atmosphere; family like, attentive without being intrusive, and totally unpretentious. Appetizer plate had samosas, falafel, and thinly sliced tofu with a nice crispy coating. Burmese tofu is NOT soy based (made from a yellow pea paste). Good alternative for those with allergies. I also had the Burmese fried rice. Had black tea, which they refill for you. Flavors are a blend of different influences. For those who like Indian food but find that mild is still a little too hot, the samosas were perfect. And this place is mild on the wallet as well. A lot of good vegetarian choices.

Delicious food served in a beautiful interior dining space or an expansive outdoor area. The beautiful umbrellas hung on the ceiling, art, and warm lighting make this restaurant very welcoming. The manager, Hsan, was very helpful, kind, and seemed happy to answer my questions. Service here is excellent. The food and drinks are also excellent. All of the portions are meant for sharing, which is why they have separate plates and serving spoons, but if you're alone, it's fine to eat out of the bowls the food comes in. I had the tea leaf salad, chicken curry with rice, and Burmese milk tea. The tea leaf salad is an acquired taste and I didn't like it, but it was flavorful and the tea leaves are imported because they can't be found in the US, according to the manager. The chicken curry was perfectly seasoned and the chicken was extremely tender. You could shred it with a spoon. The jasmine rice was perfectly cooked. The Burmese milk tea was the perfect temperature and really tasty. There were a lot of other drinks as well, with alcohol. Overall, I highly recommend visiting this restaurant. There's loads of dining space inside and in the back, the food is great, there's a restroom, and the food is fairly priced.

Nice food and service. We had the chicken coconut soup and fish noodle soup, both were great. Also enjoyed the hot tea.

We ate here about 5 years ago on vacation and continued to reminisce about our meal long after. We were finally back in town and ate there again tonight. Everything was exceptionally fresh and flavorful. Tea leaf salad, Burmese tofu, samosa soup-all marked veg. If we were local, we would likely get takeout every week.
