Bushniwa

Their sorted sushi is always the bare minimum variety. 2 salmon, 2 tuna, 12 of some other bland fish. It was pretty limited on the small so I thought the medium for sure would have more variety. After all it was $70. Nope. It's decent sushi but this order is a scam.

For sushi at a reasonable price in bushwick this is the spot. Usually do delivery but decide to go in. Vibes are good and decor definitely gives you date night vibes. Sushi is good but wouldn’t call it the best. The appetizers are good, we like the chicken and other items, not as big of fan of the fish dishes. The sushi plate was good, with decent variety. The greens tea tiramisu was worth order for sure. Bathroom was clean, staff was friendly.

Ambiance was very good. The place was in middle of no where almost so it felt a bit unsafe if I were to walk in the neighborhood. It was night time. However, once I walk in, it was completely different. I luckily parked right outside the restaurant and it was a cold day with barely any customers inside. More takeouts than dine-ins. The drinks were okay. The appetizers were pretty good with the karaage and eggplant. My friends and I mostly got sushi. We’re simple people who like salmon and thought it was really good. It’s not amazing but pretty good. I felt the cost was a bit high, but we had fun and nothing tasted bad. I like the ambiance more than anything though. The waiters were attentive and brought the food in a timely manner.

I live around the corner and had such a lovely time here, I will absolutely be coming back. The rolls, especially eel, were delicious, and so was the Green tea tiramisu for dessert. Also had great sake, and all this was for a reasonable price and in a beautiful setting. Our host, Akbar, was so incredibly kind, hospitable, and clearly cares a lot about the quality of food and service. Bushniwa really feels like a rare gem.

We were a party of 8 on an early Sunday afternoon. We had the largest table by the window and the nicest server Robin. We had a delicious meal of chef’s choice Omakase and a variety of apps, desserts and sake. I was pleasantly surprised as I have never been to that part of Brooklyn. It was a nice relaxing meal because we were not rushed. Would definitely return to try other things on the menu!

Came with a big group of friends here and the service was on point. Food was incredible, goooooood sushi. the prices are very reasonable and you can try bunch of stuff without breaking your pocket. This place is definitely a must try in Brooklyn!

I usually don’t give a bad review. But wow. I must be honest. Chicken karaage was not fully cooked (see picture). The sushi tasted OLD. Definitely not eatable. I’m giving the food of my order a 1 star. The presentation of the delivery was pristine but I’m hungry.

When I go to a restaurant, there are several things I consider. I think about the menu. Will I enjoy the offerings based on descriptions? Do they get good reviews? Is it fresh? Is it clean? Is the cost in line with the selections? Does the ambiance justify a higher cost? How friendly are they, front to back? I traveled to Brooklyn to see my daughter, and since my birthday was last week, she wanted to take me and my gf for dinner. We narrowed it down to sushi, and then two choices. We selected Bushniwa, and I'm glad we did. We started with gyōza, served upside down under a cover of something crispy. I'm not sure what it was, except delicious. The gyōza were perfectly cooked and flavorful. We also got edemame, steamed and fresh. We ordered three rolls, Crazy Tuna, Hot Dragon, and Roll of Kings. I think Roll of Kings was my favorite, but all were good, and the crab was real! The manager and server were very attentive and friendly, and brought a complimentary homemade black sesame ice cream for celebration. We also ordered Mille crepe, a 22 layer Japans sweet potato based dessert. Don't miss it! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the food was great, the staff friendly, and the cost reasonable. I'll be back!

A friend booked this place for dinner and I thought it would be just another overpriced hipster Japanese spot. After all, it's right in the heart of Bushwick and has that modern design with black walls and hanging plants. Turns out I loved it! We got the sashimi platter to share, it was absolutely delightful - each person got over a dozen pieces of fish and a bowl of rice or salad. Also tried the pork buns and the vegetable gyozas, both of which were very good. Service was great and music wasn't too loud, it was perfect for an intimate dinner. The value for money is solid, the food came pretty quickly, and I will definitely be back!

Ordered delivery from here. The food was good, and the presentation was great. There were no utensils and no soy sauce. Given the prices they charge, they should be able to get the details right. Una don (eel bowl): the eel wasn't deboned. The bones were more or less edible but I would still prefer deboned eel.

Absolutely immaculate, the food was so fresh and prepared perfectly. The decor was incredible. The hostess was one of the nicest I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Easily a top restaurant of my life

Decided to check this place out, when visiting family in nyc, this is one of my brother and his wife's favorite places so I'm glad I got to check in out for myself. The service here is great, so friendly! However not over bearing. Which I love. We had delicious matcha margaritas! One of my new favorite drinks, I also tried the blushing gheshia, which was also tasty. For food we had, edemame, which is one of my favorites, we also had veggie dumplings, and some delicious seasoned shrimp. For my main course I went with sushi since it's my favorite, and it was fresh, delicious and I ate every piece! Loved this experience and would love to get back when I'm in the area!

This is such a little gem in Bushwick!! Food, service and drinks were amazing!!! Can't wait to come back!!

Su-shi how delicious this sushi looks?? Let me share with you probably my favorite sushi spot in NYC as of now - Bushniwa located in Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY. I love the aesthetic inside and have ordered both dine-in and to-go from here. They have a wide variety of items on the menu, from starters and appetizers, rolls and specialty rolls, sushi and sashimi, to dinner plates, soup, noodles, sweets, and more! Some of my go-to's are the shrimp tempura and Philadelphia rolls. They are mighty in size and taste. Their house salad & dressing and miso soup are tasty too! Service is always attentive and friendly and the prices are affordable and average for a Japanese restaurant. I can't recommend this spot enough!

I've been here a few time in the afternoon and I've been able to catch their lunch specials. You def get more for your buck when you get a lunch special but they have similar items on the dinner menu. I've only had the tempura veggies and shrimp with rice as a main. I don't know most of the vegetables they tempura lol but it's good. I don't really like the sauce that comes with it so I usually get a side of eel sauce. It's a nice hidden gem to get some peace and quiet and good food alone. I don't know how busy it is for dinner but I know it's usually only a few people the time I go.

Went here for dinner. Sushi was very mid quality for the price. I've had better sushi for cheaper that actually melts in your mouth. The sushi here was strangely very tough and heavy to eat. We were also a big group and they placed all the big groups in a small room so it was hard to hear anyone. Servers were nice, but they were too busy to truly pay attention to us. Would recommend getting sushi elsewhere as this was overpriced and not that good.

This was my absolute favorite sushi restaurant! The services was quick and amazing. They were all very attentive. The ambiance was such a vibe. I love the dim lighting. We got so much food but my family was probably the Chicken Karaage and Super Trio Special Roll.

Bushniwa is the best, most consistent and reasonably priced sushi in Brooklyn. I love that they sell single bao buns. Their spicy mix is so tasty.

My gf and i haven't seen each other in a few months and she picked Bushniwa for our reunion dinner because heard good things about it. We had a great time. At the beginning there was one snag when a server brought our glasses and my gf's glass had lip prints on it - that's why I'm giving it 4 out of 5 - the glass was switched and the rest of the night went amazing. The food and the dishes are an absolute treat. We had a selection of rolls, tuna tartar, a soup, and dessert. Bushniwa has a great vibe and even on Wednesday night it was packed. Thanks guys.

The lunch special is what we came for, we did take away and it was perfect. Simple, sustainable packaging. Perfect simple spicy tuna roll and Sashimi platter that was so so, can't say it was amazing, but definitely better than other delivery/take out sushi places in the city. I can see why so many people rave about this place and now we must make the trek back so we can continue to enjoy it. Definitely plan to re-visit, maybe dine inside this time to get a better experience, stay tuned for any updates...

I used to like this place... until today. I got delivery for the rock and negimaki roll. Rock did not look anything like the photo on the app. I mean see for yourself. Negimaki was greasy. I couldn't eat it at all. This is the type of quality I expect from 10$ rolls not 25$ ones.

I came here for a quick bite as I was the first of my group to come to new York! I had reservations, but for a Friday late dinner the place wasn't packed but there was still a good amount people here. The waitress asked me if I wanted a table or to sit at the bar and I opted for the bar to not take up too much space. Miso soup: it came as part of the meal I think! Tasted like miso soup, nothing special or bad about it. Good start to the meal however because it was chilly outside! 6.8/10 Chicken karaage: I believe these were around $12? I thought there would be more than 5 pieces, but the pieces themselves were a little bigger than I'm used to! The chicken was tender, I would've liked it a little more crispy for the outside as well. It came with some green salt that I loved. The mayo sauce was nothing crazy for me. 7.6/10 Sushi plate: for $35 I would think this is fair! It comes with a spicy tuna roll as well! Overall I thought the quality of sushi was pretty good, size was just lacking. I also had repeated pieces of nigiri which made me sad there wasn't more variety. So overall not the worst for the price, but still on the hunt for something to match what I had in SF. 7.9/10

Ordered this place on Doordash. The sushi was fresh and delicious. I also really liked how it was packaged. I'm biased but my favorite thing was the ginger. (It's my favorite at every sushi place.) I ordered the Bushniwa special roll, toro trio roll, sweet potato and salmon avocado roll. All really tasty rolls!

Saturday night dinner for 2. We sat at the beautiful wood bar. Everything about this place felt good! I noticed and appreciated every detail from the soaring high ceilings to the skylight, the plants decorating the walls and the wood-theme that makes this interior feel warm yet very elevated. Even the tap water has mint leaves in it which makes a typically mundane object artistic. The sushi rolls were delicious and I will be back to try more. We got the Super Trio and Shrimp Tempura - both excellent! We also ordered the grilled miso eggplant which was served as a whole oval slice - thought that was unique. Loved the casual yet cool vibe. Great for dates or a group meet up.

I came here with a friend on Saturday around 530 and it was delicious. I didn't get any thing crazy I got spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail, and a California roll and they all came out quickly and were all very good. I would definitely come back here again. there was some outdoor seating but we sat inside. There was plenty of space, it wasn't too loud and the service was great.

I have been here several times including tonight for Valentine's Day. the food is always phenomenal and the service is good. tonight they overbooked and everything suffered as a result but when the food did come it as A+ as usual. the owner took care of us as the service wasn't up to the usual standards. I will be back again.

We love bushniwa! The Rock roll (middle) is phenomenal. Ambiance is also very nice. Highly recommend.

I love this place, the restaurant is very nice and the music is very relaxing and peaceful. Drinks are made with love as well as the food. This is my second time here, I drove from Houston Texas just to relive this wonderful experience. Staff is amazing, 10/10 recommend.

On the end of an industrial street, you'll find this hidden gem. The sushi is super fresh and delicious. I also tried the dragonfruit cocktail - the taste got better as I drank. I recommend the super trio special roll and the hamachi in the sushi and sashimi section. Amazing! It does get super expensive - I spent about $78.00 + tip for myself alone. Worth it. The ambiance is lovely & the food was immaculate. Happy eats!

Delicious food. Great service. Amazing amounts for the money. Especially tasty miso eggplant. Huge sushi platters. Very considerate about gluten free. Big open space.

The quality of the sushi was actually amazing. Very good, soft rice, fresh and flavorful ingredients. Service was good. Sieve was clean and pleasant. It was a, to me, overpriced for the portions, so given other sushi options in the neighborhood, I'll probably choose something easier on my wallet next time. If it were a bit less expensive, I'd definitely go back again and again.

Great meal, although pricey! They didn't have a drink menu available, it was difficult to pick from the many sake options they had on the wall without having a description. We got lucky and the one we chose was refreshing. As for the food, the chicken karaage ($12.50) was freshly fried so it was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy and tender inside! The braised pork belly ($18) turned out to only be one piece of pork belly, so the value wasn't great for the price. I do highly recommend the sashimi plates; it was $35 for 14 pieces and each was so fresh and tasty. We also got rolls, salmon lover ($20), toro trio ($23), and bushniwa ($23). All were delicious!

Been here plenty before COVID, but returned recently and it was better than I remembered. We chose to sit indoors, where every table is separated by a plexiglass-ish barrier. The space was not cramped, and I felt safe. They would even take your temperatures at the entrance and would get info for contact tracing. Tried a toro hand roll, some tempura, and the rib eye. Their food quality is definitely a huge step up from a neighborhood Japanese place. I can't wait to try their big sashimi plates when we go back.

This is still the BEST sushi in Brooklyn. It's the freshest, most incredible melt in your mouth sushi around. The hot sake warms your soul. The Japanese uni is one of the best things I've ever tasted. You're doing yourself a disservice if you skip this sushi.

Unfortunately I was in and out, my friend had already ordered, the sushi was great and I ordered a shrimp tempura dish it was also amazing. He made me some sweet lemonade which was also good.

Sushi Small - 8/10 Despite being full off of tacos, the boiis mochi cookies and yi fang tea, the minute I ate some sushi I wanted more. The fish was very fresh and had the perfect fish to rice ratio! Matcha Tiramisu - 7/10 I did enjoy the matcha tiramisu but wished the "lady fingers" were soaked in matcha latte. The banana puree that came on the side matched the matcha tiramisu surprisingly well.

Such a lovely getaway. Really feel like you have escaped into a garden hideaway with the decor and the music. Sushi was very good and had interesting offerings of sochu. I particularly enjoyed the smoked yellowtail.

Every piece of sashimi was a piece of skin, looked like left overs. They twirled them up to try and make it look fancy or purposeful. It gives the sashimi a very tough right feeling. Soy sauce was almost oddly salty. Not impressed.

I have to give this place one star because they won't let me give no stars at all. Let me describe what I consider to be a completely disgusting and horrid experience. My partner and I are big sushi fans and I cannot even explain the excitement he had about coming to this place. We searched for hours for a spot in Brooklyn to devour our favorite cuisine. He told me that he had been wanting to try this place for some time and I had seen it on several occasions but never went. So we thought what a perfect opportunity to go on a date and celebrate each other's company as we usually do. We entered the establishment and were greeted with a smile and asked if it was okay to sit at the bar. As individuals who have both worked in the service industry, we pride ourselves on getting to know our servers and bartenders. We know very well what it is like to work in the industry and we always want to show love and the utmost support and respect. We sat in the middle of the bar and I noticed something was off. I wasn't sure if it was me but I realized our bartender hadn't asked us anything. I attributed it to it being somewhat busy at the rez but as far as I could feel...it wasn't anything overwhelming. I finally got their attention and asked for water. Keep in mind- this is about 10 minutes we've already been waiting. I asked my partner "is she not looking at us on purpose?" He didn't want to corroborate my feelings because he wanted to remain calm and hopeful for a good experience. So I let it go. I noticed again the bartender not really engaging with us at all, but was head over heels over the patrons at the end of the bar and the other patron who came in after us. The food arrives but her energy again just felt very dismissive. Food came, but we received not cutlery, napkins, or much service beyond that. It seemed as if we were totally forgotten about for the most part. No matter how many times I tried to get this person's attention...I just couldn't seem to fully grab them. We were left for the lack of a better term "hanging". It got to the point where I was clearly uncomfortable and asked my partner if he could wrap it up, but he had just ordered something else. So I held myself again and waited patiently. When I finally got their attention towards the end of our meal after another 10-15 minutes of waiting and barely any servicing at all...I asked for the check. It was evident to my partner that we were truly being dismissed and I was hoping that it wasn't because of our clear blackness but the micro-aggressive behavior was running absolutely rampant. Despite me asking for the check I ended up waiting yet another 10 minutes because I was being ignored. I had watched the bartender not look at me at all and then proceed to give someone their check who had asked for it a few minutes after me as well as take on a totally new couple at the bar and offer them so much of everything we were without. My partner went out for a smoke because he was feeling the stress. When he came back inside and realized I had been ignored yet again and was still without the check, he was so upset. I said "let's try something. I bet you if we step outside they'll come out behind us right away because they're gonna think that we tried to dine and dash." I love my partner so much because he trusted me with this and followed my lead. I don't even know why I was surprised when the bartender came out less than 20 seconds later to tell us we hadn't paid the check and that we need to pay. I was in disbelief. I was so angry because I realized this individual was indeed being prejudiced and took it upon themselves to treat me and my partner like absolute shit because of whatever assumptions or preconceived notions they already had about us. About our evident blackness. I asked to talk to a manager because I refused to talk to someone who didn't want to talk to me all night and they tried to make an excuse but I ended up speaking to someone else. They gave us a measly 20% off our bill. I honestly felt so sick to my stomach after that experience. To take it upon yourself and to deny me of my humanity is a sin against us all. We are so much better than that. It made me feel like I was worthless . In this world we are living this, behavior like this should be reprimanded and 100% never allowed to permeate this society. I will never be attending this establishment and I hope they learn from their ways and do better. I highly doubt it though. Still mortified by their actions and lack of accountability. Disgusted.

An unexpected gem!! Beautiful, quiet spot with incredible service and fresh, delicious options.

So glad we stumbled upon this place!!! My friend and I came here on a Friday evening since our attention was caught by the outdoor seating lighting and arraignment. I'm going to keep this one short and simple. The service was great, friendly, and very attentive. We sat outside but also got a chance to experience a bit of the indoor portion which I might add is beautifully done. The food was delicious as we enjoyed various types of rolls as well as edamame and their mochi ice cream. A great spot for date night, groups of friends or even just to catch up with a friend. I highly recommend!!!

My friend and I decided to have dinner at Bushniwa on a weekday evening. Neither of us had previously visited but surprisingly enough we had both had it on our list of places to visit for a while. We had made a reservation but the place wasn't crowded at all. We were seated and given menus to look over. When it came time to order I went with the Hot Dragon special roll which was made with a spicy tuna crunch and avocado. Simple, it still hit the point in terms of a fulfilling roll. The ambiance in the space is great for a dinner with a friend or a fun date night out. I'd totally come back to try some more of their other rolls!

Came on Saturday night without a reservation and managed to snag two seats at the bar. The restaurant was full but still felt lowkey and chill, rather than rushed and frantic. My drink was made almost immediately after ordering. It was refreshing, but a bit watered down. The Bushniwa roll was simple with clean flavors. No need to jazz it up and mask the quality of the fish! The jalapeño sauce was very light and complimented the yellowtail. The una don was brought out last, but it certainly was not the least. The fish was so tender and practically melted in my mouth. I would come back just for this dish!

I am unsure if current times are affecting this business or it's just how they always were and it's been hyped. My partner and I waited 30 minutes (we kept track) for our food. We ordered two appetizers we received only one cold flavorless "miso" cod (it was more of a mushroom appetizer with a sliver of cod). The one and only appetizer came with my partners sushi rolls. One didn't taste to fresh (bushniwa) and the other was quite tough to chew (toro). My chef sashimi came with no description from the waiter of what I was being served on a bed of ice (red flag) the tuna didn't taste nor looked fresh. Perhaps sushi is not making the cut during these time but who knows. Overall this was not worth a drive and you're better of eating whatever you have at home.

So this really was a redo order from the night before! Quick recap.. so the Uber east driver gave us someone else's food super aggy but it is what it is. YES THERE WAS A REFUND! Ok so the right oder came today, they take kind of long in my opinion but it's all good, food canes in a plastic bag in side there's a brown bag which contains the food, napkins chopsticks soy sauce & a spicy mayo sauce in the bag. Food portion sizes are good. If you ate sushi before you pretty much know what your getting into lol. Now for the food we ordered the 2 pork buns which are always amazing & right on point! 2 orders of shrimp avacado rolls amazing also! (Make sure you mix the wasabi with the soy sauce and put the ginger on the sushi before you eat it!) sweet potato rolls (highly underrated!) and spicy tuna rolls they was Ight. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS SPOT!

Came here for my birthday lunch and honestly it was alright, the presentation was awesome though and I wish I took more photos but we were all starving. The chefs also gave us about 2 pieces less of ebi and normally I wouldn't mind but the prices are quite high compared to the portions. I know sushi/sashimi is expensive, I know portion sizes are small, but we got the large platter, 2 rolls, and another set but we all left quite hungry. Cocktails were okay too - there's an all black cocktail that I would NOT recommend.

This is a hidden gem in Bushwick Ive been living here for 4 yrs and was pleasantly surprised to find the quality of the sushi and the service! This is not your average sushi/sashimi spot they have a beautiful chirashi selection and awesome deals for groups.. The bowls and food are beautifully decorated and it really is a nice calm ambiance when you want to go for a cosy place for a date.. Im addicted..

We discovered this on a whim. Service, cocktails and food are outstanding. The miso glazed eggplant, karage chicken, sushi were the best We've had. This is a gem.

Came here with my sister for the first time and I was pretty impressed. Very fresh sushi. We split the $65 sushi and it was delicious. We also had these very unique flat square shaped Fried dumplings which I enjoyed. The service was very good constantly refilling water and hot tea cups. Also the food came out in a decent time frame. I loved the decor here, it felt very hip and was designed very nicely. I would come back to split a higher level sushi platter:)

My brother wanted to go here so we made the trek to Bushwick. It did not disappoint. The place has an upscale trendy vibe and has a lot of wood and exposed brick. We started with hot tea, which was delicious. The servers were very nice and gave us a full pot. The service was really quick. We ordered Shrimp and Edamame dumplings to start. They were crispy almost flat dumplings that were fried. The sweet sauce on the side was slightly spicy and was delicious. Really hit the spot. We also ordered red miso soup. It tasted exactly like normal miso soup. I probably would save the extra $1 and get the regular miso soup next time. For our entree we shared the $55 sushi dinner. It was composed of an 8-piece spicy tuna maki roll and 16 pieces of sushi. Every piece of sushi made our mouth water. We were thrilled because there were two pieces of each different type of fish, so we were both able to eat. We left satisfied. We loved the service and the food and will definitely be back!

The worst pieces of fish I've ever seen. So small. Cut poorly. The mist overpriced. They should be ashamed. Quality just ok. Would never go back when I showed manager my food they could care less.

Very mediocre. I stupidly assumed the higher prices would probably mean higher quality, so I chose this place over the many other lower-priced sushi restaurants in the area. Not only was it no better than my usual places, it was actually worse than many of them. Small portions and sad-looking sushi that looks like it's been sitting out for hours.

Super cute seating and vibe here. - miso soup: good, pretty standard - Tea: is free refills (!) - Hot Dragon roll: good tuna roll with this yummy crunch on top and a super tasty sauce - Highlight was 100% the cheesecake. Don't leave without trying and make sure you get your OWN. We were fighting for the last bite and I wish I had the whole thing to myself. I do think it's very pricey for what it is, but the cheesecake makes everything worth.

My wife and I cans here for dinner on a week night. We shared the bushings dumplings and the Manila clams as starters. The dumplings were interesting; it was filling between two sheets of dough. More like a mini fried slider than a dumpling. The clams were my favorite dish. For the main course, we a large sushi platter. Solid selection of sakes and a few beers on draft including some local, craft options.
