My family and I enjoyed this Saturday night find. After reading the reviews we expected it to be expensive. We spent $80 for three burgers, large cheese fries and a few beverages. The meat is good quality as are all their ingredients. Some cautioned against ordering fries. They were oh-kay. It’s definitely an experience and worth checking out if you want to try something different.

It is a lovely place with lovely food. If you like to build your burger from scratch, you have lots of options. Try this place. One feedback: do not try sirloin with Dijon mustard; the Dijon taste dominates the meat taste.

Amazing burger and fries, BYOB, 7 11 down the street. I had the duck egg and bacon on pretzel bun. Pick your everything.. meat type, cheese buns topping. Great place

Wow! One of my top 5 restaurants in the city. Ambiance, service and food were amazing. Our server Rachael was beyond excellent and made some outstanding recommendations. Even the to go containers were incredibly fancy.

The portions are really large, almost too large to enjoy. The double burger is impossible to eat without either taking a partial bite or remove a patty. Also, the fries were somehow soggy and dry at the same time - no crunch at all! They may be air fried, but some of the worst fries I’ve had at a burger joint. Pretty disappointing given it costs $25 for a double burger and fries.

Was a serious vegetarian for 25 years. Got hit by undeniable craving for meat in pregnancy. Decided on Butcher & the Burger because they advertise grass fed beef; if I’m gonna do meat, it’s gotta be quality! First burger since 3rd grade was so insanely good, we went back the next night for a repeat. This is going to be the weekend move for the foreseeable future

Butcher & The Burger is a custom burger joint. They’ve got a wide range of ingredients to choose from, so you could probably go a hundred times and never get the same thing. With places like these, I always say if your food isn’t good it’s probably because you don’t know what to throw on the burger or how to get it cooked. Also, the large fries are very large. It’s more than enough for two people and could probably be good for 3-4.

I have been on the search for a good burger for 2 years since moving here and I this was the best burger I have tried many in the city including fancy overpriced ones. The burger was excellent, good sized patty and very flavorful, I appreciate the addition of fresh vegetables which most places in this town seem to lack. The fries were also so good and a do not skip. Lastly the gentleman who took our order genuinely seemed to enjoy his job and provided excellent customer service to all patrons. I will be back.

Please note that this review is about their location at O'Hare. I understand when buying food at an airport that it will likely be more expensive and not as good as if bought it at the actual location outside of the airport. O'Hare unfortunately lacks a lot of good places to eat, especially in Terminal 5, so I was excited to find a location of the Butcher and Burger. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The process is that you order at the counter, you are give a buzzer, you wait for your order and then you go back to the counter to pick up your order when it the buzzer buzzes. The main issue I had is that they got my order wrong and food is mediocre, even by airport standards. Butcher and the Burger is well known for its burgers so I had high expectations. I ordered an All American Burger that came with fries and a medium Coke. I ordered my burger medium rare. However, I got my burger well done. The patty is super thin, it might as well have been a McDonalds burger patty, and it was tough and dry. To compensate for the small size of the burger, they add way too many veggie toppings. At one point, all I could taste was bun and onions. While the burger was eatable, it wasn't the burger that I order or expected. Also the French fries had much to be desired. They weren't God awful, but they weren't good. The French fries were not crispy, but soggy. The meal cost $25.42 after tax, which isn't bad for the airport, but what I was served wasn't worth it. Also, the seating is way too far from counter. They places a rather large bar between the counter and the food seating area. It was annoying have to lug my carry on further than was need to find a seat and then go back for my food.

3 stars bc our friends love this place. 0 stars based on my experience. Food had to be thrown away. DO NOT order Uber eats for this place. There is ZERO quality control. We ordered from here for delivery on a Saturday night 11/2/24. The grilled cheese my daughter ordered was burned and sent like that in our order. She couldn't eat it. My burger was not cooked how I specified and the bun also was burned. The food was inedible. Both were thrown out.

Yeah, this spot gets it. When you walk in you feel like you've gone back in time and there is little doubt that something delicious is a few minutes away. Incredible burgers, thirst quenching lemonade, and some solid steaks fries. What else do you want? (Nothing).

Very friendly vibe! I particularly like the bison burger but it is less fatty than beef so probably not to everyone's liking. My wife says she is going with the beef next time but I'll stick with the bison. The potato salad is a creamy style and very tasty! Likewise the Cole slaw is really good. It's a good take out place with some seating for inside dining. I'll be going back for sure!

Maybe it's been too long since I've had a good burger but the house burger was just delicious! Soft pillowy bun, juicy, grease dripping pattie - and that sauce, which is on crack. SO good! I'm not even a burger girl but I will return anytime for Butcher's burgers!

Honestly, the best Turkey Buger around! Steakhouse seasoning, split top bun. Just a really good burger... you don't miss the beef on this one. Stop by you will not be disappointed.

Butcher & Burger: how do I love thee? Let me count the ways... This is my favorite burger in the city. Why, you ask, in a city with a zillion excellent options ? Because it's what a burger should be: hot, fresh, single large patty (I am SO OVER the smash burger trend ....). Cooked to your preference (medium rare - no problem!) served on a choice of buns, with condiments and a choice of several spices ( examples: Chicago Steakhouse, Umami, etc) The fries are a generous helping and arrive HOT. Bonuses are BYOB and a cute patio along the quiet side of Kenmore Street off Armitage. Service is always fast and friendly

Oh my god. This is delicious. I devoured my burger. It was fresh; it was crisp; it was so good. I highly recommend. A perfect "fresh off the grill" burger. I didn't add any flair, and it was still a great authentic cheeseburger. The steak fries are also delicious. A small serving goes a long way. About $15/person

I am a frequent visitor to Butcher & The Burger! I love their freshness and ability to choose different meats and seasonings for your burger. I love that they offer a lettuce bun and their fries are so crunchy and flavorful. Fast casual so the servers bring your food to your table and then you take care of returning the cutting board which your food comes served on. I love there is an indoor and outdoor seating option too!

It is pretty good if you are into burgers, they offer a build your own model where you can pick the type of bread, the spices, and add ones such as mushrooms, tomatoes, sweet onions. The ambiance is pretty chill, clean, there is street parking. Service seemed very friendly. I recommend the lunch special, is a burger with fries and drink.

The Good: -A solid burger made exactly the way you want it. Vegan and Vegetarian and No Gluten options too. -No seriously pretty much any burger permutation is possible. -Small amount of sidewalk outdoor seating. Yay summer in Chicago -Awesome and friendly staff. The Not as Good: -I can't believe for the price I paid I got a non-toasted bun. -Indecisive patrons in front you will potentially take forever to order based on the myriad of options. -Pricey depending on your tastes I will add a star to this review if they start toasting the buns.

Burger: 9 Fries: 8 Service: 10 Vibe: Chill Got the house blend prime beef burger with cheddar, onion seasoning, grilled onions, and bacon. The burger was well seasoned very juicy, the caramelized onions were a nice sweetness to balance the savory burger and the bacon was so smoky! The fries were crispy and well salted. Also got a local cream soda that helped wash it all down. The only thing keeping me from giving this place 5 stars might be a preference thing but I prefer when the buns have been toasted or warmed somehow. The burger came on cold buns and they had that distinct texture that cold buns do. Second thing really is all a preference thing and may not matter to you but I prefer shoe string fries to steak fries. Last thing I want to point out is the burger is pricy for my wife and I to have a burger and drink each and split a large order of fries came out to just over $60 after tip which is on the pricy side for a hamburger IMO.

Ordered breakfast at the breakfast bar and emphasized that i cannot have gluten so ordered eggs and potatoes nothing else (classic breakfast) and was charged for the classic breakfast and when i said that's alot of $ she said well i should have ordered only the eggs and potatoes. I was like why didn't you suggest that instead I paid $21.67 for 2 eggs and brekafast potatoes.

Not sure I understand the hype....The service was good but the buns were cold, the burger was well done instead of medium rare, the extra mushrooms portion was miniscule, the fries were very salty. The highlight of the meal was the cole slaw....Very overpriced for the value as we paid over $50 for two burgers, small fries and a small lemonade. My girlfriend summed the visit best- " we could have gone to Five Guys "....Never again....The search for a decent burger continues....

I feel like this place has been here forever... going back to 2008 when I moved out of Lincoln Park. I could be wrong though. Either way, we came here for a quick lunch on my daughter's birthday before we went to CAMP. And it was so good! The kids' burgers would be fitting for a small adult... so much food and the fries were so good. Get all the sides! (We got the potato salad, slaw and fries to go with our burgers.) I had the turkey burger but I was secretly coveting the salmon burger so that's my next order whenever we go back. Everyone was so nice as well and the service was quick so... I'm not sure if there is anything else anyone could ask for. I do have to get a special shoutout to the frozen custard. That stuff is DELICIOUS.

It is a perfect place for a good quality burger. You can't go wrong with any combination or choice there. Perfect seasoning, good suggestions, high quality of meat, and Mexican Coca Cola. Vegetarians, Pescatarian maybe Vegans (check the menu to be sure) you have not been forgotten, there is something good and juicy for you too. Their cookies and shakes are to die for too. If you are still reading this, you are wasting time. Get going you can thank me later. Enjoy it

The burgers are delicious. The regular burger is large, perfectly cooked, and juicy. The bison burger was the same. And the shrimp burger was incredible. Something different and obviously made from fresh shrimp. So good! Even the fries are great. The staff is welcoming and helpful. Small, intimate atmosphere. We enjoyed our meal.

I was headed to Armitage to do shopping and I wanted to grab something quick to eat. It was pretty crowded but I ordered and found a table. I only got a burger because I wasn't too hungry and I was by myself. All of their burgers are build your own and they have a lot of options. I opted for the split bread, grass fed burger, lettuce, tomato, carmelized onions, and goat cheese. They offer seasonings to add to your meat- I did the steakhouse seasoning. It took quite awhile to get my burger but when it arrived it looked really good!! Once I took a bite I was disappointed. Literally no flavor, nothing- I couldn't taste any seasoning or even salt/pepper on the meat. It was so bland. Im not sure if this an off day or what. I ate it because it was ok, but in a city of amazing burger options I wouldnt come back unless I was in the area and there werent any other options. I gave it a 3 because its grass fed and all ingredients were fresh. Overall experience 3/5

I was excited to try this place because it came highly recommended. I ordered a beef burger medium well on a croissant and a salmon burger with pretzel bread. My daughter enjoyed her salmon burger and I tried my friend's and I can say that salmon burger was delicious. Unfortunately, my burger was burnt so I didn't enjoy it. I will go back and order the salmon burger if I'm ever that way. Service was great and I love when an employee can actually recommend food. The place is small. The high top chairs are not user friendly with people w larger hips and butts.

This place serves a wonderful shrimp burger! The umami sauce was deliciously paired with it, but I'll get a more savory sauce next time. Service was friendly and super helpful.

This place is amazing. Been here so many times. Takeout food was so good we had to go back to eat in person bc we thought we were just rlly hungry. It is actually that good. Service is so kind & treats us well!! TRY THE CUSTARD ITS INSANE. (From a baked dessert gal)

I took my niece for lunch last weekend. The menu sounded amazing when you're in the mood for a burger. When we were ordering (you order at the counter and they bring it to you) I asked the clerk what the difference was between the 100% USDA beef and the grass-fed. He suggested that the USDA had more flavor, so I went with that, as did my niece. We ordered fries to share. The burgers were out pretty fast, and they were cooked PERFECTLY. You could even see the difference between my rare/med-rare and her medium-rare burgers. I had the split top bun, and she had the pretzel bun. We were really excited. We bit into our juicy burgers, and while they were good, they didn't have the flavor either of us was expecting - especially from a place called the Butcher & The Burger. My bun fell apart, and didn't really lend anything to the taste. My niece liked her pretzel bun. Then the fries. Very disappointing. They looked really good, and had the nice brown color of a well done fry, but they had NO flavor. Even covered in ketchup, they had ZERO FLAVOR. How do you do that to a potato?!? The place is small, and the day we were there was sunny and about 55-60 degrees, but it was freezing inside. We ate our burgers quickly and left. If I meet someone who loves this place I'll try it again, but otherwise it's one and done for us.

We got the American burger with truffle mayo and umami spice, a custom burger, a large fry, and the potato salad. The menu in person was a little confusing to me because I originally looked at the menu online and they had more options listed. The truffle mayo was so good that we got 3 sides of it. Also the potato salad was delicious! The vibe in the restaurant was very relaxed and fast casual. The employees will bring you your food and for how busy they were the service was really fast! I definitely recommend trying them out.

One of my favorite burger places in the city. And there are a lot of good ones to choose from. I love how you can choose the type of beef, seasoning, bun...everything. Also...they make freaking beignets! The burger is super juicy and cooked just right (you can also specify how you want it cooked).

The burgers here are so good. The French fries were good as well but the burgers are incredible. I tried the bison burger and sirloin burger both were great but bison was my favorite. The staff was very friendly. The food came out quickly. Seating is first come first serve. It's a smaller area but we were able to get a table pretty quickly on Friday night.

Came here last night for dinner with a friend, and though the place didn't look like much, our burgers were PHENOMENAL! Not only was the quality amazing, but I love how we were both able to customize our orders however we wanted, which made it a great place to go with a friend or a group who have dietary restrictions (though I gladly don't have any). I ordered a grass-fed burger with lettuce, tomato, and goat cheese and paid a little extra for caramelized onions and the black truffle aioli -- SO worth it. Almost went for the bacon too, but decided to take it easy since we were getting fries. That won't stop me next time though... The fries were decent, but the burger is where it's AT. I already can't wait to come back here.

The Turkey burger was delicious. Came with a large group and we at outside! The service was excellent and so was the food. Everyone was super happy. It was a Thursday night and the place was busy but we all got out food in a reasonable amount of time...

Love that they have bison and they source locally. Their burgers and meat are super tasty too. I forgot to take a picture of my burger because I was too hungry. They have great service, and it's a cute local corner burger spot.

A choose your own adventure burger spot! Select your meat, spice blend, bun, cheese, toppings and get it your way! I keep mine pretty simple but do you boo! Large fries are good for two and the potato salad was well worth it. Check 'em out!

Solid spot here at B&tB. I love the concept of building your own burger based on their high-quality ingredients. This time I went with a pretzel bun, the grass fed beef, goat cheese, pickles, and I paid the up charge for caramelized onions and bacon. Definitely worth it. It's clear the meat is high-quality, it was a little on the leaner side which I actually liked but very juicy and well cooked. I got the steakhouse seasoning which was really good. Overall I would give the burger a five out of five for what I ordered, it really hit the spot. Often times when I get burgers at restaurants I tend to have stomach issues due to all the oils but no such thing with this restaurant, so I was pleasantly surprised by that. My husband also enjoyed his burger. We ordered a side of fries which was a generous portion for the small. Unfortunately they were packed very tightly in a to go box which caused them to steam and become very soggy. We threw them in the air fryer at home (which is the pro tip on getting fries refreshed) which helped a lot. Overall, they aren't a top contender in fries for me and I'd love to see some sweet potato fries join the menu but overall we had a very good experience. I will definitely be back to build my own burger again.

The burger was delicious, as well as the fries. We were given the option of vegan fries or fried in some animal oil and boy was those fries good in some animal oil! But overall what stood out to me and why I will go back is the make your own Arnold Palmer station. Whoever thought to put simple syrup right there, BRILLIANT!

You will not find a better vegan burger on the planet! Food is amazing and BYOB is an added plus. Great chill spot.

So yummy! Will definitely go back. Burgers good sized, but theres a kid size if you don't have an adult size appetite. Excellent fries too. BYOB is the only drawback.

This is just not as good as it used to be. The staff are not nice, the ordering process was unpleasant and the guy taking the order was extremely dismissive. My order was taken incorrectly. The beef was over cooked, the pretzel roll was stale, and the fries had a bad aftertaste (I suspect the supplier was changed). My suggestion is to go somewhere else. I used to tell everyone that B&TB is the best burger in Chicago. It simply is not anymore.

I was in the area for college orientation and had a good amount of time to kill. So i went exploring a bit online and saw this Zagat rated burger place, which I was so excited to try! I got the house blend burger with cheddar, bacon, ketchup and the split egg bun. I also got the fries. Seems like people rave about the fries. I wasn't that impressed with them. But the burger!! The bacon was perfect. It was cooked perfect and no chewiness at all. It truly was the best burger I've ever had with the perfect amount of mess. I can't wait to go back! If you love burgers, you can't go wrong here. And the service is very kind as well.

Hands down one of the best burgers I've had in Chicago! I love the build your own burger feature! They have an amazing lunch special that includes a burger, fries, and drink for under 15 bucks. I will definitely be back for more burgers!

I rarely go to burger places since I don't eat beef but I'd heard this place was good so today was the day to try. The person at the counter was happy to give recommendations on spices to pair with my bison burger which I really appreciated. I got the bison burger with their backwoods game spice which consists of cracked black pepper, minced onions and garlic... from what I remember. There's probably more. Added some cheddar, caramelized onion, lettuce, and tomato to complete. Also got a small order of fries and a couple of beignets. Don't judge me. I took it home to eat and was very happy with my lunch. The burger was flavorful and amazing. No complaints on the fries and beignets either. The beignets are different in that there's no breading inside. Just air. I still enjoyed them though- saved some carbs. Hahah This was completely worth the trip and looking forward to my next visit!

This is a really, really tasty burger joint. Start with your choice of protein, next a unique feature, chose your SEASONING, followed by choice of bun, choice of cheese and a great selection of premium toppings. A small basket of fresh cut fries is enough to share between two people, a large is plenty big for more peeps. I gave 5 stars for the char grilled burger and fresh toppings- they did however forget my grilled mushrooms! But I'm not even gonna ding them for that. If you dine in, your burger will be served on a butcher block, pretty cute and clever. Save room for dessert. Beignets- the original dusted with powered sugar or the cinnamon shaken, they are a pretty decent size, about the size of my palm- get a 1/2 dozen for $8. And yes, if you can't decide they will split them for you! I also had their frozen vanilla custard. It was divine. Check it out if you are in the Sheffield Neighbors area- you won't regret it!

This place is super cute with a hipster vibe and thankfully a lack of subway tiles. Good fries, friendly service, good burger options BUT, the burger itself just wasn't that good. Kind of flat, not juicy (even though it was cooked correctly). I got the classic chicago version - 1st on the menu for reference. Also, beware: The pickles are sweet pickles. I made the mistake of ordering extra pickles cuz I love that sour dill taste, but instead it was a sweet burger. Not a fan. I wanted to like it. :(

We came here for the first time today. I ordered a custom burger and my gf ordered a Honestyle burger with jalapeños (pictures shown). Let me start of by saying that the burgers and patties are juicy and delicious! Different styles of buns and seasons only increase the flavor profile of this place. Their ingredients are definitely fresh and it only compliments the beef. *Chef kiss* If you're looking for a good burger in the city this place is it. The ability to customize your own burger is a huge plus for me. Definitely recommend giving it a try! 5/5. Price for 2: $30-35

This place has a good vibe and friendly service. I would give the burgers a 3/5 as they were nothing special and over cooked. The fries were definitely the biggest hit. Also slightly overpriced for the size of the burger- I feel like the burger itself was no more than 5 bites.

Good burger place lincoln park with high quality ingredients. The price of the burger is on the higher side, more like restaurant vs casual burger joint prices and doesn't include fries. They have several different patty and bun options with the ability to pick a seasoning and toppings to customize your burger. We came because they had a lettuce bun option which was gluten free and carb friendly! It wasn't just a flimsy single piece of lettuce but rather solid wedges of lettuce that held up to the burger. We tried the bison and the grass fed beef. Once you pick your patty, you have the option to add what type of house made seasoning. There's several free toppings you can choose from and then a huge list of premium toppings that cost $1 or more to add. The BBQ Pork Belly was really delicious. The fries are thicker steak fries and so delicious. Crunchy on the outside but still a bit soft on the inside. They were fried to perfection and piping hot when they were brought to us. Plenty of seating inside/outside and cool retro exposed brick wall vibes.

I ordered the house blend prime beef burger. For toppings I chose cheddar cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, bbq sauce and I added a fried egg. When they brought this thing out, it had an amazing and fresh smell! It was cooked just as I requested. High quality burger. Also, I'm not much of a pickle guy, but these things were great! Very sweet! The inside had a bar top along the side, which had some really interesting swing out seats. They had some retro antique machines and butcher tools as decoration. The seating area is small on the inside, but they also have a patio. The service was friendly and prompt.
