The Best Restaurants In Dumbo and Brooklyn Heights - New York - The Infatuation

"There are lots of overpriced, overrated spots in Dumbo, but Butler isn’t one of them. This all-day cafe is our go-to for a leisurely weekday breakfast, lunch with a laptop, or pastries and iced coffee before a walk along the waterfront. The wifi is fast, there are ample outlets, and the staff won’t bother you if you hang out and take Zoom meetings for a few hours. This is also a great low-key brunch spot if you don’t want to have to put on a whole outfit or make a reservation on a weekend morning. Ryan Butler Teaches Weeknight Baking in Dumbo

"The former Piora pastry chef offers baking classes at his second Butler location in Dumbo. Wander the wide, cobblestone streets of Dumbo after work one night and you might run into pastry chef Ryan Butler on his way to teach a baking class. Butler is the pastry chef of his Williamsburg—and now Dumbo—namesake cafés, Butler Bake Shop and Espresso Bar, which he co-owns with hospitality wiz Rod Coligado and design-mind Hugo Murray. Follow Butler down Water Street where you’ll find his new industrial-chic and otherwise-daytime location—open as of late August—well-lit and teeming with aproned couples mixing batters and doughs. Murray and a crew of young Brooklyn personalities are on hand to keep spirits high and the rosé flowing. The new Butler location is on 40 Water Street." - Marguerite Imbert

Google
Breakfast empanada ! Bravo, it was outstanding. Classy decor at the center of Dumbo. Awesome service, awesome view of the Brooklyn Bridge. Food is made in house, clean, easy parking. If needed, an excellent restroom. Inside and outside seating available along with a walk up window for ease.

Google
Butler is a fantastic place for a coffee & snack. They offer a comprehensive menu of sweet & savory dishes & the service is quick & efficient despite it being a busy place. There is outside seating which offers great views of the bridge. A little pricey maybe but worth it for the fresh food and wonderful views. A great place to soak up the atmosphere of the DUMBO area!

Google
Nice location, pretty spacious and bright interior. They serve intelligentsia coffee and house made pastries. I ordered their iced flat white which was good but they gave it in a 16oz cup which seemed careless.

Wow, an outstanding breakfast. Very tasty, fresh, excellent service, reasonable prices. We loved it very much 🙂

Google
I visiting Butler for the 1st time today while doing a photoshoot in Dumbo. I ordered the Avocado Toast & Iced Vanilla macha with oat milk. This Avocado Toast was one of the best I've ever had. Absolutely delicious!

Google
I had brunch at Butler in Dumbo and loved the experience! I ordered the avocado toast and tried the pastry French toast—both were delicious. They have many pastry options to choose from, which is great if you’re craving something sweet. The outdoor seating offers a beautiful view of the bridge, making the vibe even better. The staff was great, and my hot latte was just right. A perfect spot for a relaxing brunch with a view!

Google
Butler Coffee in Dumbo is a fantastic spot for a quick and delicious pick-me-up! Their Iced Latte with oat milk and a touch of vanilla (just the way I like it!) is consistently good. It's the perfect fuel for exploring the charming streets of Dumbo and enjoying the nearby parks. Friendly service and quality coffee make it a regular stop for me.

Emre Cosar

Google
One of the best oatmeal in NYC, it was amazingly good that I didn't want to finish it. Their premium drip coffee was also so good. I will definitely visit back!

Yelp
Coffee was worth the wait. If you are trying to do tourist things come here very early order a coffee to go and take pictures here. The ice coffee hits the spot before work always, or if you have time to work from home and want a good place to enjoy an espresso with something light on the side this place is worth it.

Yelp
I stopped into Butler when I was in Dumbo a few weeks back for a QSR breakfast, and it was a great experience! Not too busy, but never not busy, once ordered food came quickly, and the view of the Bridge is excellent, and a lovely way to start a morning if you want to sit quickly. Prices are super fair as well! Cozy inside, and kind Brooklynite staff. I ordered the breakfast sandwich, which I totally recommend! it's made with truffle aioli on a scallion brioche and completed with a sunny-side egg, bacon, and cheddar. The truffle aioli plays off of the other ingredients quite effectively. On the side, I ordered the corn muffin and also had a taste of the sticky date muffin. Both of these were pretty good, though a bit more moisture in the muffin would've been preferred for my palette. Cute spot to pop into - recommend for sure!

Yelp
Loved stopping by their window for coffee and an açaí bowl after walking across the bridge and before we got to the carousel. The açaí bowl was a little soupy- the day was super hot but I think it was a bit soft when we got it.

Yelp
Food was good. Ambiance awesome. Minus 1 star due to not receiving complete order. Not sure if I would come here again, but definitely a cool spot

Yelp
First time visiting Dumbo and stumbled upon this cute shop. Really like how they make their own vanilla syrup here! It wasn't too sweet and definitely gave me a pick-me up. Came in around 4pm and was pretty empty and service was quick. Loved all the natural light and seating inside.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute spot, front cashier service was good-- I'm lactose intolerant & just ordered the avocado toast (not having anything previously or after this) I hate giving out bad reviews but I got a really bad case of food poisoning ... I have been ill and honestly it could have been anything. The presentation of the food was really cute, I asked the cook if there was dairy and he said no so I'm not sure what it was. My friends enjoyed their food ... I however didn't .. I'm sorry
google avatar

Lindsay B.

Yelp
If I am in need of a quick breakfast or brunch bite, and I'm by Brooklyn Bridge Park, this is definitely the place to stop. The staff here is lovely - especially the cooks! I had been visiting my doctor in the area this past week, and it was always early mornings. I would pop in here right after, and they consistently made me a delicious meal. I HIGHLY recommend: the açaí berry bowl and the granola parfait. They put a lot of care into the presentation of their food, which I truly appreciate. Additionally, I enjoy sitting outside. They have a lovely outdoor area in the Summer time, with just a few chairs. I enjoy sitting out there just to people watch. Plus you have a nice view of the bridge right behind you. Inside, they have a free water station. The seating is quite comfy and they even have a few outlets for you to go in there and use your laptop. All in all, lovely little place.
google avatar

Julie L.

Yelp
Cute bakery vibes and I liked their pastry and lunch options! The location is nice, so there's a lot of sunlight and view of Brooklyn bridge. Decent amount of seating, but will probably have to wait or grab n go during the weekends. Good food spot around dumbo!
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
I had a really nice breakfast here - breakfast empanada, cornbread, and a chai latte, I loved the little seating tables by the windows and appreciated that I could take up just a one person sized spot instead of a whole table. The staff were very nice.
google avatar

Yelp
I wanted something other than coffee so matcha latte is was. For some reason I kept seeing the sign thinking it said butter on it and thought to myself, what a funny name for a restaurant/cafe. The matcha latte here is great. Enough sweetness and tasted of matcha, not just all milk.
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
A respectable and surprisingly decadent breakfast sandwich ($13). The white cheddar was sharp and fragrant, complementing the bacon and truffle aioli perfectly. The egg yolk was decently runny and the milk bun was super fluffy as well (but no scallion flavor whatsoever). Despite being packed for weekened brunch, service was brisk and effective. All in all, a cute and comfortable brunch spot in Dumbo.
google avatar

Monica A.

Yelp
Great pastries and coffee! Dumbo location is nice. Near the water for a nice walk afterwards.
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
This spot is so cute! Came in on a Sunday early afternoon and ate inside. There are so many pastries and some main dishes to choose from. I saw the everything cruffin and had to have it! It was a pastry like muffin with cream cheese and it was full of deliciousness. They don't have sides of bacon or sausage available to add unless it's a main course, that's why I put four stars. I wanted some bacon with my cruffin but ended up getting the mini sausage roll instead for some protein. Which was delicious as well!
google avatar

Chithra V.

Yelp
Love this place for their innovative pastries and the view. Got to try their Cruffin, French toast and veggie fritata. All the three were good but the cruffin was my favorite among these. As the name suggests, it is both croissant and muffin together. The cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating. It has the view of Brooklyn bridge. Must try!

Yelp
Stopped in during a recent visit to DUMBO. It's a really cute cafe and the food and coffee were amazing. I ordered a latte along with a breakfast sandwich. That was probably the best, most fresh sandwich from a cafe I've ever had. The bread was soft, the bacon was perfect, and the salad that came with it was light yet refreshing. My only gripe with this location (can't speak for the other ones) is that the layout is a bit weird. The tables are very close together and there is seating super close to the register. It feels a little chaotic on a crowded day. If you can move past that, I highly recommend the food and coffee here.
google avatar

Nove R.

Yelp
Wow coffee while looking at Brooklyn Bridge! Nice staff We arrived 7 am so no waiting Try it is a must before y walk on the historical bridge
google avatar

Linda M.

Yelp
Great breakfast spot! It does get busy on the weekend. I absolutely love their savory pastries.

Danielle A.

Yelp
When you go into a coffee shop for a quick drink and have a DELICIOUS squash salad on watercress you cannot keep it to yourself. OMG! SO GOOD! Definitely going back next time I'm in NYC.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this little coffee shop! So warm and inviting! I had a great cup of hot chai latte. Sometimes the chai is lukewarm but here it was HOT The pastries were calling my name but somehow I resisted. Barista was friendly and was the cozy shop with people talking and others working. Fast and friendly!
google avatar

Nardos G.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place for brunch , love the food and their macchiato is the best .
google avatar

Leslie S.

Yelp
Pros: we had the avocado toast, veggie empanada, and lattes. Best lattes in town, sooo tasty! Also the avocado toast was dressed beautifully with feta cheese, pumpkin seeds and pomegranate seeds. I loved it so much I've been recreating it for breakfast. SOOOO GOOD! Cons: small spot, very limited seating, tables are very close together, but totally worth it for the food.
google avatar

Kimberly T.

Yelp
Very good spot for some light breakfast, pastries and coffees and conveniently located so close to Brooklyn Bridge and the Park. Didnt get to try the pastries yet but the coffee was very good. Perfect flavor and the latte art is of course a bonus for me. The menu is quite simple but executed nicely. Indoor seating is cozy and the pick-your-own table after you order is convenient. I love that there's a couple of places to visit nearby such Manhattan Bridge View, Brooklyn Bridge, Jane's Carousel, Time Out Market etc. Great location but parking is a challenge - no surprise there though.

Yelp
Butler is my go to place whenever I visit dumbo park . The service and the food is always on point . The only thing I didn't like was how dirty the outside tables were . I mean yes the previous customer could have cleaned their own mess but they didn't so someone should have kept the place tidy . Other than that , I really love to come to back butler . Posting pictures from my recent visits.

Yelp
10/10 would recommend for good coffee and tasty snacks/pastries! **If you only want coffee to-go and want to miss the long lines that run in and outside the cafe, they have a little to-go window outside! Just stop by there and it'll make your coffee experience much quicker**
google avatar

Blaire C.

Yelp
Went to this place on a whim after watching the sun rise on Brooklyn Bridge Park! You can see Brooklyn Bridge from the windows +for the location Everything Cruffin * , it's a mix of a croissant and a muffin which was both flakey and crispy, also messy. I wish it had more cream cheese and the fennel seeds were quite overpowering. However, it's a good first try

Yuli D.

Yelp
Great ambiance, fast wifi, and delicious food. Honestly went to get some studying done and it was the perfect quiet place closer to noon.
google avatar

Kara S.

Yelp
Stopped here for breakfast after walking over the Brooklyn bridge on our vacation. My teenage son got the lemon lavender cake, and two frittatas. He was want fond of the frittatas but I thought they tasted great. He ordered the breakfast sandwich instead and my mom got the same. They both enjoyed them. I had the avocado toast and it was amazing! Coffee was great! Only complaint was the attitude of the lady at the counter when we asked about getting just a regular egg sandwich which wasn't on the menu. Just had a rude tone with the response. Other than that everything was great. They even refunded us partly since my son didn't like what he ordered. I would definitely go back!
google avatar

Liz O.

Yelp
We stopped by for coffee and a chocolate croissant before a concert in the park nearby. Fast service a clean restroom and a great people watching view were good enough for me. The Americano and the latte and a chocolate croissant, or all excellent and that made it the perfect place. My only complaint is minor-- The high top seating is too close to the counter so every time someone wanted to order some thing they bumped the back of me. This is really not too terrible. Come on in! Across from Time Out which was much more hectic and less inviting.
google avatar

Anissa C.

Yelp
My husband and I stop by the Butler on our way to have some adventure as well in Brooklyn. The store is very cute and crowded! The service was good. Unfortunately, the coffee and chocolate croissant was mediocre at best! not bad, but it's not that good.
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped here for a quick Sunday lunch with friends prior to hitting up the flea market down the block. Upon arriving around 1pm, we were easily able to grab a table for 4. This cafe is very trendy looking inside and has a pretty standard brunchy-cafe menu to match, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but overall was pleasantly surprised by the quality and portions. I got the mushroom toast and Butler's soup of the day (broccoli cheddar). The menu is on the pricier side -- $14 for my toast -- but at least the portions were somewhat generous. The toast and latte were good but nothing special, but the standout to me was the soup which was so indulgent and delicious! And the presentation for to-stay food was a nice touch. Service was fast and very friendly. I'd probably come back here if I wanted a quick, satisfying, "nice" brunch.

James P.

Yelp
I love this place. Been a supporter from Day 1 and go 2x/week. Location, ambiance, service, food offerings, vibe, etc. are top notch. Intelligentsia coffee is the icing on the cake! The Sausage Roll is my favorite tasting item in the neighborhood. My only, and I mean ONLY, gripe is over time the sausage roll has shrunk in size substantially and literally is the 'mini sausage roll' and costs $5.75. Would be great if they either lower the price for this 'bite' or go back to the older larger size; I hope and pray for the later. Also suggest they bottle and retail the green sauce as I can drink it with a straw!
google avatar

Willie G.

Yelp
Nice spot. Looks bigger outside than it is inside. The seating layout is alittle cramped, even when it's not crowded. One last peeve, there's table service, but u have to go get your coffee, and utensils, weird to me. They bring your plate of food to your table but you go up to get your coffee and then your folk, spoon and knives, from two different locations. That can't be fun with a crowd. I'll end on a positive note. The location is right off the River in Dumbo, so it's perfect to stroll around. The big plus to this place is that it opens early 6:30a and is ready for full food service, so come here if you want to beat the crowds, come early. The coffee, juices, and food are all good. When you are all settled, with your utensils, coffee, and food on table, it's quite relaxing and has a nice ambiance, with beautiful views of restored historic buildings all around. Come here early, so the above issues, don't get in the way. Its a nice place to start your day in Dumbo,
google avatar

Emma R.

Yelp
This place was fantastic all around! Coffee was great, they actually made my cortado a cortado and not a latte which is incredibly hard to find! People that worked there were outstandingly kind. The woman behind the register gave compliments on compliments, the man making my coffee was also super smiley, was feeding a dog through the to go window tons of treats, and ran down the street after someone who forgot something in the cafe. I went after my solidcore class about 5 mins away and will definitely be back! The vibe inside was cozy but it was packed with not too many open seats on a Sunday morning around 9:30am. Lots of people posted up working on laptops so I would be prepared to take your coffee to go.
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
A picturesque coffee spot that has everything you need for an enjoyable day. Firstly, what a stunning view! Truly a great place to come and enjoy sipping a drink and getting lost watching the beauty of NY. The coffee is really good and they offer a variety of baked goods! They have a decent amount of seating options, which is great. 5/5
google avatar

Rachael M.

Yelp
Good coffee, a variety of pastries (including one vegan muffin), food, and both indoor and outdoor seating. It's very cute inside and outside and is a nice spot in the center of Dumbo.
google avatar

Albert J.

Yelp
Food was fantastic!! Coffee actually have grate taste but bit overpriced. Definitely will come back with my friend. Nice music playlist as well
google avatar

Yelp
While in NYC Butler will always be a go to spot for me! While strolling through the Dumbo area I ran into this jewel of a spot. It's a favorite neighborhood spot and the locals are there in full effect. They are known for their coffee/espresso and freshly baked good. A long review isn't necessary; EVERYTHING WAS GREAT!!! Check out the pictures I've uploaded and check them out.

Yelp
Stopped here for a light breakfast after waking up early and walking the Brooklyn Bridge. This is counter service, so not much to talk about on the service side, but they were friendly and took the orders quickly, and got the food out quickly, especially since it was pretty busy. The savory pastries were definitely the star of the show, but the sweet pastries were not bad. The coffee was fine, with standard coffee above the chains. The inside was very cute, with plenty of seating and not too loud. Definitely recommend stopping in for a pastry and a coffee if you're in the area!
google avatar

Yuki C.

Yelp
This place is what I like to call "Just a SEC - Simple. Easy. Casual" A lot of yummy pastries that cater anyone needs / allergies. I usually order my go to breakfast sandwhich, which has bacon, eggs and mayo w/ a side salad. I wouldn't say this place is the most affordable, but for what you're paying for... everything is delicious. They don't allow dogs inside, but have an easy access window to order a coffee on your walk and even have little treats for the fur babies. It can get crowded since it is located in an area with a lot of corporate offices, so if you plan to grab a seat, I recommend arriving before 11am.
google avatar

Jeongmin H.

Yelp
Very cute interior - nice spot to do some work in! But drinks were pretty overpriced for the quality in my opinion.

Yelp
When we ventured out to DUMBO one early Saturday morning, we found ourselves looking for a nice spot for breakfast/brunch nearby. After doing some research, we found Butler with tasty looking menu. We saw a long line of people around the building, which was surprising at around 8:30 in the morning! The people in the queue were waiting for "to-go" orders. Phew! Inside the Butler was very spacious, relaxing, with plenty of seating. We knew we wanted some baked goods, and some real food. They had great selection of baked goods, all looking like some kind of gastronomic artwork. The staffs here were very friendly and welcoming, didn't make me feel bad about taking the time to ask question about their baked goods. We ordered Chocolate Croissant, Morning Glory Muffin, and Olive Oil Muffin. For the "real food" part of the breakfast, we ordered Breakfast Sandwich. Everything we ordered were simply amazing and delicious! We loved each bite of all the different items. You can taste the high quality, and everything made/cooked just right! And the breakfast/brunch is not complete without a nice cup of coffee! We ordered Flat White. It was super smooth with great flavor! We had one amazing breakfast/brunch here. Everything was just delicious and delightful. Staffs were friendly and courteous. We felt welcomed there. With elegant, open space with relaxing music playing at low volume, you are sure to have a peaceful time here. And the food! My goodness, we enjoyed every bite! We will definitely go back for more the next time we are in Brooklyn!

Yelp
A chic little chores shop tucked right into the heart of Dumbo, just a short walk from the iconic bridge photo spot. I stopped by with my coworkers to grab an afternoon pick-me-up and loved it. The interior was spacious and airy, with lots of seating and people working. They have a cute, covered outdoor patio with tables as well. The baristas were super sweet and helpful, too. I got the chai and it was a TAD on the sweet side but still really yummy -- I would totally come back again!
google avatar

Tracey Z.

Yelp
Super cute cozy coffee shop in Dumbo! Great view of the Brooklyn bridge and the aesthetic is fiddle leaf fig heaven! Very busy and crowded in the morning, I didn't get my order so I had to go ask them for it. And there is a one hour table limit so you couldn't come here to work. The Croissant is so buttery, crispy and flakey! Perfect with a cup of coffee. The Chai latte is also rich and creamy. Great start to my morning thanks to Butler :)
google avatar

Suki C.

Yelp
Butler was a 5 minute walk from the hotel we were staying and I've seen a lot of great reviews about their baked goods so we had to stop by before heading home to pick some things up to try! In the many times we walked by, we saw a huge line of people waiting- either to order or to dine in so we placed an online order for pickup to avoid the wait. Luckily when we arrived to pick up, there was no line but we got out goodies all packed and ready to go. I also ordered a latte from them. The latte itself was really good- I asked that they add some simple syrup in it and it was a nice balance of coffee for my taste buds in the morning! We ordered a few things to try- french toast cup- it was delicious. The everything crufffin was also a fan favorite at home! We ordered 3 croissants- one regular, one ham and cheese and one triple chocolate and all three were a hit amongst the kids and adults! Will be back when we are in the area next time!

Yelp
I stopped by to get some work done and refuel food wise. It's super cute on the inside, and staff is pretty nice, nothing too dazzling. The cold brew was very crisp clean and tasty. The granola parfait was really tasty and super fill. Half way through the bowl I thought I couldn't finish it. It's a bit on the pricey side but portion wise it's not too bad.

Bill J.

Yelp
Friendly staff but kinda messy inside. The breakfast sandwich was tasty but seemed a bit overpriced for what it was, especially without the meat. Overall it's an average spot after a Brooklyn Bridge walk but you're better off going to the food court across the street.
google avatar

Adi M.

Yelp
Butler is a nice place to go to on a weekend late morning/early afternoon in Dumbo. I got the avocado toast, which was probably above average compared to most that I've had. it came with feta cheese and pomegranate seeds which gave a nice heterogeneity in taste and texture. I also got a latte which was solid (and had nice artwork which was a plus). I originally wanted to order the mushroom toast, which from looking at pictures of the menu from past reviews was marked vegetarian, but when I arrived in person it wasn't. I asked the woman taking my order if it was vegetarian, and she just said that the things that are vegetarian are marked as such, implying that it wasn't. So I'm not sure if something was added to no longer make it vegetarian, or maybe I just read the menu wrong. But it would have been nice to get a better clarification of why it wasn't vegetarian if in fact it wasn't. If I'm ever in Dumbo again, I'd be happy to revisit Butler.

Yelp
Very interesting cafe in DUMBO! Heard about the pastries they offered here and decided to try them out. As others have mentioned, no indoor ordering for now. You place your order at a walk up window and have a few seating options outdoor to wait. I ordered a pistachio milk latte and an everything cruffin. With a decent line, my order came out pretty quickly. The latte was like any other good latte. Nothing to write home about but definitely nothing like a certain green chain that will go unmentioned. That cruffin though. was. incredible. Soft and flaky. The butter would have provided enough flavor as is, but then they added chive cream cheese and everything bagel seasoning on top? Perfection. I wish I could've ordered a dozen for my house. But let's be honest, if I did that, I'd eventually start yelping gyms near my area. Overall, definitely a good place to get your pastry fix at least in DUMBO!
google avatar

Katey G.

Yelp
Butler seems to be doing a great job at protecting its employees while serving its customers. There's no indoor ordering - everything is done with a line outside and ordering from a side window. It actually works pretty well, customers seem to know the drill and there's many opportunities to read the menu and stare at pastries while you wait. I came on a Saturday late morning and waited around ~15min (keep in mind, Butler is by the water so it's very windy and pretty frigid while you wait). For beverages, i got a mocha and latte. We also ordered their breakfast sandwich with truffle Mayo, and the olive oil yuzu muffin with blackberry glaze. The coffee is good - next time I might order an extra shot of espresso, or maybe order a flat white so it's a bit less milky. The breakfast sandwich was very very good, and even came with a small arugula side salad. We loved the olive oil muffin- definitely a go to if you enjoy olive oil cake. There was also an exceptionally friendly cashier who did a great job managing the line and everyone's orders. I'm excited to explore more of the menu - possibly lunch next time. Their oatmeal seems to be popular too!
