"Top Chef alum Chris Scott helms this Windsor Terrace soul food destination with his wife, Eugenie Woo. The elegantly rustic restaurant takes delightful liberties. Whites in the deviled eggs are deep fried, then piped with dressed yolks and topped with torn kale for color. Other out-of-the-box options include chicken-fried tempeh and pickled watermelon and cured salmon salad with spicy peanuts and pimento cheese." - Paul Schrodt

"Scott opened Brooklyn Commune along with his wife Eugenie Woo about eight years ago as a café-market hybrid. Over the years, it expanded its food offerings and even added dinner service, but morphed back into primarily a coffee shop in recent years. Scott says he began to check out and focused instead on the couple's latest venture, Butterfunk Kitchen, which opened in two years ago. Following a series of glowing reviews and newfound fame from an appearance on Top Chef, the restaurant soon found itself with hours-long waits." - Aaron Hutcherson

Good Food, Great Service Clean Bathroom. From the time we were greeted until we left we received great service We had six in our party 2 of which were children. The menu is geared to soul food. There are a lot of fried items. In NY that is not a problem because they cannot use vegetable oil. They had fried deviled eggs. They were very good but a bit hard to eat. We also ordered sweet potato dumplings which tasted good but not anything special. Because we ordered a lot of side and starters, the foods began to blend together. When I got my chicken dish it was a lot of chicken. It was cooked really well, real crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. The rice was good as well. The rolls and cornbread were really good and the molasses butter was amazing. Dessert menu was short and the items tasted good. I think the food was really well done. The plating was ok. I think what I am trying to say is that it did not go to the amazing level. However, it is soul food so maybe to that end it reached that level. I am always looking for something in the meal that would set the place apart from others. Also, not a big deal but the unsweetened Ice tea did not taste fresh. That is something they need to pay attention to but for me did not affect the stars. The bathroom (1) was surprisingly clean and really spacious and nice. You get a bunch of stars for that, for as the bathroom goes so does the kitchen. Parking is not bad because it is on a quiet neighborhood block. Lots of people go there and it is a nice crowd. You may have to wait a bit. Prices are moderate for chicken. The main dishes come with enough food to fill you up. The starters and sides are very tempting and cost a bit. The Mac and Cheese really stood out, the blend of cheese was well done. All in all if you like soul food and you are willing try some good cooking in a nice place. I would definitely put this on your list.

Omg. Okay? Delicious fried chicken! Crispy skin and super flavorful juicy chicken. I wish we had ordered more of the kale side dish too. Definitely coming back when the weight of the delicious chicken has lifted.

I loved the devil eggs - They deep fry the white and top with kale leaf(I don't even like Kale). They Also had a deep fried corn on the cob topped with bacon, fantastic. Buttttt my chicken was eh, definitely lackluster. The Banana Pudding was o so tasty. It's a small place, one waiter, so the wait was a bit long. I would go back atleast once more to try another entree. Ps they don't really have a bar, so its wines and some beer.

Great po'dunk theme yet great restaurant atmosphere. Experience includes elevated dishes with delicious flavors. Had the Braised Oxtail and tried the biscuits and Mac and Cheese. Oxtail was perfect! Tender and flavorful, and all fixins were great. Mac and cheese was super garlicky but still good. And bisuits we're pretty good. Cheesecake for dessert. Presentation was lacking but still delicious.

I went there on my Birthday Week. Food was Daalicious but I would have liked bigger portions for the price. I ordered Collard Greens, Macaroni and Cheese, Black Eye Peas and Rice. It was served in white bowls. I thought it could be prettier. I went there expectingly "Live Music" to my dismay Host just pointed to a stereo box, explained that there was no Live Music! I wont go for a special occasion, but the food is worth making it a "Foodie Stop"!

I heard about this place on Top Chef and wanted to go there when we visited Brooklyn. It is very small space, so when we arrived Sat. night at 7pm it was packed. They have 4 stools at bar, my husband and I ate there. The server was a beautiful friendly woman who thoroughly answered all of our menu questions. The food we ordered was so delicious! Appetizer was crawfish hush puppies. Entrees and sides: Lemonade fried chicken plate with rice and biscuits, pepper pot shrimp, collard greens, mac n cheese and for dessert nana pudding. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you receive. Will definitely visit again.

3 adults and 1 kid enjoyed about half the menu. We shared the deviled eggs, hoe cakes, corn bread and Mac and cheese. Eggs and cakes were SLAMMIN mac and cheese was heavy on the garlic but it worked well with the cheese. Entrees: buttermilk fried chicken, pepper pot shrimp, fried catfish and the kids plate (2 drum sticks with rice and a biscuit) It was all very good, prices were great, service was excellent and they were happy to let us order drinks and apps while we waited 30 minutes for the last member of our crew. I recommend the place to everyone looking for good elevated southern soul food.

My family and I ordered to go. We ordered the lemonade chicken among other items on their menu. The chicken was flavorful however I didn't get the lemon or lemonade flavor. The Brown sugar bisquits were a hit as well as the habernero hot sauce.
