Buya Izakaya + Yakitori Review - Wynwood - Miami - The Infatuation

"Buya is a Japanese restaurant in Wynwood where you can order a bunch of small plates and tasty grilled skewers. It’s a solid place to start a night out—whether you’re looking for drinks and a light bite or a full dinner. The food is consistently good, but the best thing here is the tempura beech mushroom, a big crispy mushroom that comes sitting on top of a great “Tokyo ranch” sauce." - Ryan Pfeffer

Great ambiance and vibe! I liked the space, decor and lighting. The server was knowledge and friendly. We had the crispy duck roman, pork belly and broccolini. Great flavors. The crispy duck wasn’t crispy or offered much flavor. The pork bully was awesome!! The menu is highly meat based and very little vegetables and sides options. I think it would be great to offer to diversify and balance the meal. Thanks again for experience, would come back to explore the menu. Merci!

Me and my friends came here for the lunch Miami spice special. We were delighted with the presentation and delivery of the course. We had tried both of the appetizers, the sashimi tuna, the short rib buns, the bok choy and the karage chicken. All of which was wonderful, we all love the food and thought it was very delicious. We were then given a dessert which was a matcha tea and a brownie with lemon filling. I was had a cocktail and my friend had a sake. The service was amazing and wonderful, the venue is a nice small modern but artsy spot. I would definitely come back for Miami spice or another menu option.

Went to Buya yesterday for their outdoor seating opening and every single plate was amazing! The highest quality of food, we ordered a bunch of plates (added a few pictures, missed some of them) every single one hit the spot. Every single staff member was extremely nice as well, looking forward to going back again!

Great place with great staff. Me and my date had the pork belly buns which were good, but the star was the house chili paste which was delicious. Javier, the chef, told me it wasn't even their best because he was missing some ingredients. I would not have known. James, our server gave a warm welcome and fantastic service. He suggested the duck ramen, but I had the short rib ramen and my date had the pork belly ramen, both were amazing (I will be returning for the duck ramen). This was my first traditional ramen experience and I will say, I don't like runny egg yoke, if you're like me I urge you to be adventurous and try the egg in the ramen. The yoke mixes with the soup giving it a smooth hearty flavor and the egg is savory and perfect. I also had some saki which was great and the Cigar City 'Fancy Papers' hazy IPA which is a must try if you haven't had it.The restaurant opens at 12:00p. We arrived at 1:00p and it was great because it wasn't busy at all. It you're concerned about COVID-19 I recommend going around that time as it gets crowded in that area in the evening.

This place was hip and fun! Very casual, graffiti walls, cool bar. Food was pretty good but they made a few mistakes with the food orders. The servers were super nice but felt overwhelmed so slow and had a few issues with the order.

Visited for their Miami Spice special and was thoroughly impressed. There’s a lot to choose from on the menu (the normal menu has a lot of dishes) with ramen, yakitori, and izakaya style items too. The ramen was delicious, the noodles and broth stood apart from other ramen spots in the area. The wagyu skewers were also a standout dish, with a few different sauces to enhance the bite. Service was great too!

This unassuming diners’ heaven sits on a restaurant filled street in Wynwood. With back-to-back doors leading to a variety of cuisines, one might easily overlook this hidden gem. Luckily I encountered them via Miami Spice, and not only did it not disappoint, it far exceeded my expectations. Offering a tasting menu including beverage pairing of sake, wine or non-alcoholic beverages for $42 each was a gift. Even dishes such as the shishito peppers which you can typically find in any Japanese restaurant, were magically elevated with a side of carrot ginger ponzu dipping sauce. Each dish was carefully and thoughtfully prepared and plated, many accompanied by flavor-infused sauces taking the ordinary to the extraordinary. Between the yellowfin tuna sashimi, the street corn with generous bonito flakes, and the grilled brocolini with crispy bacon and shallots, the flavors continued to intensify. We opted for the tempura beech mushroom dish for a very reasonable upcharge and were so enamored by this culinary delight that my husband had to thank the chef who stood within earshot of our table, fully invested in every dish that left the counter. Chef Zach West very obviously puts a lot of passion into his dishes and the kitchen staff works seamlessly to help deliver his vision. Their laid-back, friendly vibe creates an inviting dining experience with equally helpful servers leading the customer-facing charge. Maria H. was our very attentive server and offered great recommendations throughout our meal. The Wagyu skewers were tender and perfectly cooked, and arrived with salt flakes, wasabi, a slightly spicy yuzu sauce and chimichurri. The yellowtail snapper skewer was freshly basted in brown butter ponzu and had a lemony zest. The last skewer we tasted was the chicken thigh, and while I am usually turned off by this cut due to its fatty texture, the protein was free of fat and deliciously flavored. The last entree was ramen and a duck hot pot, the latter which we had to take home because we did not want it to go to waste. And finally for dessert, we were surprised with a black sesame ice cream sandwich which was so unique that I ate my half and then some. I highly recommend Buya for a delectable meal that will leave you wanting more, so much so that I already made another reservation for dinner.

From the moment we walked through the door the service was beyond welcoming. But the food is everything! It’s not your typical Japanese food, this is street food and every plate was scrumptious. Not to mention the prices were super reasonable, specially for Wynwood and the presentation was 5 star restaurant-worthy. Side note: bathroom is pretty cool and has anything you may need. Will definitely be coming back regularly. TRY THE SHIITAKE BAO BUNS!! Trust me!
