The Best Restaurants in Tijuana, Mexico | Eater San Diego

"It’s hard not to get excited as the tableside cart arrives and you watch as a uniformed waiter whisks up a garlicky, umami-rich dressing in a wide wooden bowl before gently tossing the mixture with fresh leaves of romaine. After all, this is where the Caesar salad was invented a century ago, and since then, Caesar’s zesty, simple recipe has gone on to grace menus globally. Opened in 1923, and later acquired in 2010 by the Plasencia Group, the legendary restaurant has reclaimed its Prohibition-era splendor. The roaring 1920s-style menu includes period classics like oysters Rockefeller, sole meuniere, and beef Wellington, as well as local Mexican trends born in recent decades like savory tamarind martinis." - Bill Esparza

8 Best Salads In Houston - Houston - The Infatuation

"If you like being the center of attention, order Pappasito’s Cantina’s caesar salad. It arrives crowned with a sculptural wave of seasoned tortilla chips clouded in shredded soft cheese, like what Houstonians imagine fresh, Hallmark-styled snowfall looks like. This unexpected Tex-Mex creation—complete with a refreshing acid tang, red pepper-spiced chicken breast, and a blanket-like sheaf of corn kernels drenched in sweet sauce—will make everyone at the table wish they ordered a salad instead." - chelsea thomas

Secret Caesar Salad History: 100 Years Later | Eater San Diego

"Seeing its furniture and iconic rolling salad carts out on the sidewalk in 2010, I watched Grupo Plascencia step in to save this Tijuana institution that originally opened in 1923 and is credited with popularizing the Caesar’s salad. After signing the lease, the family restored the dark wood interior and black-and-white checkerboard floors to their roaring-twenties look and reopened on July 24, 2010 with Javier Plascencia as executive chef. Working with longtime waiter Efrain Montoya, they restored the salad toward its roots—sourcing extra-crisp romaine and Italian Parmigiano-Reggiano from Southern California, using anchovies from Roland Foods, and blending extra-virgin olive oil (a 50/50 mix from Casa Magon or L.A. Cetto and regular olive oil); Javier also substituted limes for the original lemons. The restaurant now celebrates the salad’s layered history (including the disputed July 4, 1924 origin story), showcases donated memorabilia and photos on the walls, and draws locals and tourists alike for a tableside Caesar, especially when Montoya is on duty." - Bill Esparza

The Secrets of Tableside Caesar Salad at Tijuana’s Iconic Caesar’s Restaurant - Eater San Diego

"At the height of Tijuana’s Prohibition-era decadence, Caesar’s owner Caesar Cardini first created his eponymous Caesar salad. The tableside specialty quickly became a favorite with the many Americans, including Hollywood’s A-list, who were heading south of the border in droves to take advantage of Tijuana’s plentiful drinks, gambling, and live entertainment. With its golden years long past, the original Caesar’s closed in the late aughts during a slump in Tijuana tourism due to strict border restrictions and intense organized crime activity. However, the Plascencia family, regarded as Tijuana’s leading restaurateurs, revived the restaurant at its original location in 2010, during a time in which the city was shedding its anything-goes reputation for that of a bona fide culinary and arts destination." - Mario A. Birthplace of the Caesar salad and revived by the Plascencia family, this historic dining room is celebrated by Eater and The New Yorker; tableside salads are a ritual. Bring your passport and allow extra time at the border.

Wonderful old-school restaurant in Tijuana Mexico. Full service dining and bar where the Caesar Salad was invented. The menu has many choices provided by high quality chefs. The waiters are professional and cultured. The atmosphere is friendly and attended by families who have eaten here for generations. Mexico understands hospitality!!! I will keep coming back!

This is the original place that created the iconic Caesar Salad in the 1920s eaten by many now all over the world! The restaurant had old world vibes and decor all over the place. They have English menus for non Spanish speaking guests. Service was very prompt and friendly. Place was packed on a Monday evening. Food was amazing! The servers prepared the acclaimed Caesar Salad at the tableside. Taste was fresh and exquisite. We ordered roasted beef marrow, escargots, Pan Con Ajo for appetisers. For mains, we ordered Tender beef loin, beef strip steak, fried calamari, spicy octopus, shrimp wrapped with bacon l, salmon Wellington and seafood risotto. Every dish was done very well and came with nice sauces and dips. The cocktail drinks were also very well concocted. Prices are on the higher side, but you get very good quality food and service. This is must visit restaurant if you come to Tijuana Mexico, they provide valet services at the entrance. Side note, during my visit, they had 2 military vehicles with machine guns mounted (last picture) and soldiers guarding the area surrounding the restaurant, not sure what's the occasion but you do feel safe.

Let me start by saying I didn't like Caesar salads until yesterday! My husband and I came here for lunch, and admittedly, I hesitantly ordered the salad based on a recommendation. To my surprise, it was incredible! The flavor was impeccable. Ricardo A. (not pictured in the photo), our server, put on a show with his preparation, which made it even more special. Filet tacos were good, but were slightly overdone; however, the sauce that came with them helped remedy that. If you are visiting the area, Caesar's is a great place for lunch. The staff is very friendly, the atmosphere is lively without being too loud, and there is plenty of seating at both the bar and dining room.

A very old school, peaceful and beautifully decorated restaurant. The service was impecable. I came for the caesar salad and it did not disappoint. It's the original and the best ive ever had. The fried calamari was also delicious and actually pairs well with salad. I will definitely come back here again especially for the caesar salad.

If you love Cesar Salad than this is the place. Absolutely delicious hands down. However we order the Alfredo pasta and it was not flavorful pretty bland, then we order the Rib Eye steak medium cooked and the meat was very tough and had too much nerves. I would defiantly go back for only the salad.

It's a very clean and classy place that reminds me of the oldest restaurant in California, the Tadich Grill in San Francisco. Service was quick, efficient, and very professional. The famous original Caesar salad is made tableside with a flair and while it doesn't look like much when done, it's truly fantastic—somehow more than the sum of its few simple ingredients. You can buy Cardini Caesar salad dressing in grocery stores, but its not the same. We also had the Tacos De Caviar Mexicano (refried black bean) and Burritos De Cameron appetizers which both were perfectly delicious with excellent side salsas. Even the two types of bread served with some kind of herb butter were great. Can't wait to go back and try the great looking entrees and desserts.

The food at Caesar Foods is fantastic, and the service was spot on. Considering it’s an Italian restaurant in Mexico, it actually rivals—and even surpasses—many Italian places in the U.S. The restaurant was packed, which speaks to its popularity, and the prices are very reasonable when compared to American restaurants serving the same dishes. It’s not exactly cheap by Mexican food standards, but it’s well worth it if you're craving high-quality Italian cuisine. Nearly every dish we tried was delicious and well-prepared. The salad is a bit overpriced, but you’re definitely paying for the presentation. Highly recommended if you're in the area and looking for something a bit more upscale yet still affordable.

I'll admit, I do not know Spanish so I was a bit nervous coming here and being able to properly order what I wanted. However, they were very accommodating and had menus in English. The staff was rather attentive and generous. Food was rather tasty and is at a very appealing price. I got the beef wellington and some calamari Both were rather tasty.
